a New Adult Romantic Suspense novella - about 100 pages
Jenna Davis thought she was a grown woman, capable of making her own decisions. When her world is turned upside down, she finds herself back under the control of her father, unsure of who she can trust. She's finding it difficult to learn to trust her heart when she just finds it broken over and over again.
Recommended for adults only audiences.
This is part two of a multi-part romantic suspense serial, and ends with a cliffhanger. Part one should be read before this novella for maximum enjoyment of the story. The series unfolds over six episodes of approximately 100 pages each. Parts one through six (the complete first season) are available now.
This really is an intriguing, twisty-turny, somewhat angsty series. I just don't have the inclination to read 19 little novellas. I'm curious, for sure. It has some awesome potential!
I started reading this series and it looks good started off well even but can't quite bring myself to read like 14 books even if they are short stories. I think that's why I'm against it though as they could be put together to full length books so there aren't so many to think about buying:-(
Jenna is running from Daniel and Brandon. But does she really need the help of her parents? Who all was involved in Daniel's hoax? Is Brandon telling the truth or is he telling her what she wants to hear? And what in the hell is her parents up to? If I were Jenna, I would grab Melissa and run far far away. It seems that she is the only person she can trust. Another great addition to this suspenseful story and I need more now.
I really liked this book, the only thing I didn't like was by the time I figured out what was going on the book was finished. Now I will have to read the next one to find out what happens.
A quick easy read with more twists than the 1st. Poor Jenna with no life of her own and parents who only think of themselves. Heading into a political race.
Title: Mistaken (Mistaken #2) Author: Renna Peak Series or Standalone: The Mistaken Series Rating: Five Stars Review:
Mistaken #2 is the second installment in the Mistaken Series of novella’s that chronicles the journey of heroine Jenna and hero Brandon as they navigate the way they’ve been through into each other’s lives and picks up right where the first book left off.
This story as with the previous one is told from Jenna’s point of view, but I did not feel that I was losing anything not having more insight into Brandon and the way his mind works. What worked in the first book in terms of point of view works here as well.
Attempting to talk about this book is harder than it was with the first one because it did end on a pretty epic cliffhanger, and I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone that’s reading this review before picking up the first book in the series.
What I can say is that this book answers quite a few questions while still leaving things open ended, and not answered so that we can learn right along with Jenna in the future installments, but a good chunk of the questions I had with the way the last book ended, got answered here and engaged me even more with these characters.
I’m starting to see the more I read that at least in terms of Jenna, this is starting to look like a journey of self-discovery. Having broken away from her family (alluded to in the first book) in order to carve out her own path away from the “limelight”, I get the feeling that she hasn’t had an identity all her own for a very long time and that added with the events that get dropped on her in this story, well needing to find herself, her own identity away from everyone else seems as though it’s going to play a big part.
I enjoy her character immensely. She’s not a ball buster or an emotional wreck, but a fine balance between the two, so very real and I can, just the way I did in the first book, identify with her. Had she changed drastically from the events of the first book to the second it wouldn’t have worked, but it didn’t and her as a main character works for me.
I wanted to loathe Brandon in this. I really did. Quite a switch for me with the way I reacted to him in the first book. But this is where learning things about him, his own past and his role in events comes into play. He’s not a “good” guy, at least not on the surface, but man, when you break past that first layer, he’s still the same sweet guy he was in the first one and if possible I think I may have fell for him more in this one and he was sweet as hell in the other one. Like out of this world, unbelievably sweet guy.
I feel as though even with this just getting started, the author beginning to delve into the more suspenseful elements of the book, that I shouldn’t be so hooked into seeing these two have a happy ending quite this early, but I am. I want this to work out for them, despite the obstacles and believe me, there are many. When they’re together, it’s just that well written. So Daniel, I don’t care how much you “love” her, I’m remaining firmly in the #TeamBrandon camp.
Again Renna hit another one out of the park. Pacing was perfect, the characters came across even stronger, more real to me and the plot, the twists and turns and things you weren’t expecting to read, fit perfectly into it, hooking me in even more.
Another 5* read for me. Now I’m off to delve into book 3 <3
Seriously disappointing. This book was a word for word rehash of the ending of book one and then a "bonus chapter" added as a teaser to get you to buy yet another book in the series. Mistaken? More like Taken.
I was really into this book, despite its editorial short-comings, until I realized that it was a series of short novellas. In my defense, I got the first two for free somewhere and it wasn't until I finished the second one that I found out it wasn't the end, but barely the beginning. In this second part of the serial, Jenna finds out that her fiance did not really commit suicide all those years ago. He ran off to Japan. Now he wants her to come back to him and live in the beautiful house that he has and live happily ever after. Jenna is heartbroken and furious. She was just getting over what she felt was her part in his suicide and has found Brandon. But wait, Brandon was talking to Daniel when she walked into the restaurant and now he is gone. Does that mean he was in on the whole thing? The story gets even stranger from here. We find out the Jenna's father is going to run for, well let's say a high office, and wants her home and away from both men. Brandon follows her to Hawaii where she is forced to break her journey from Japan. He convinces her that he didn't know she was the woman that Daniel was talking about getting back together with. Jenna's father sends people to Hawaii to collect her and get her away from Brandon. We get to meet Jenna's mother, and you will wish you hadn't. We also find that her parents have picked out a suitable husband for her.. and that is where this part ends. So not going to get part 3.
I received this book for free with the understanding that I would write a review.
Jenna Davis thought she was a grown woman, capable of making her own decisions. When her world is turned upside down, she finds herself back under the control of her father, unsure of who she can trust.
She's finding it difficult to learn to trust her heart when she just finds it broken over and over again.
Im really enjoying this book. There is some suspense. Your still trying to solve whatever is going on before the author tells. I really didn't like Brandon at the end of book 1, I didn't really like him in the beginning of book 2 either. Hes growing on me though. I love how sweet he is. I couldn't rant the entire time but I would give way to spoilers if I did that.
This is an amazing series and I cant wait to find out what happens next.
I was really looking forward to this, but was sadly disappointed. I was really enjoying it up the point Jenna and Brandon went to talk in the restaurant. It was repetitive, slightly irritating and it put the steady 4.5 stars it was sat at down to 3. there is only so many times someone takes a bite of a burger or a fry before you just can't take it anymore. it's endearing to see the Heroine eating but this was just too much. I lost interest completely after that because I was disappointed. I liked the storyline etc and the twists but that bit really let it down for me. others may find it different but book 2 just wasn't for me.
Just like this first book, this was a short, easy read that had many twists and turns. It was an engaging read and I liked how the characters continue to evolve. The pacing was good and it keeps you turning the pages. However the only downside is that I doubt I'll find out what happens in the end because I can't bring myself to pay for reads that take me less than an hour to complete. I know that if I buy one I'll have to keep going because these end on huge cliff hangers.
I like the story a lot but these are not stand alone books. It feels more like she took a book and split it into sections and released them like individual books.I know they say short stories and I've read a lot of short stories and have enjoyed them but that is not what these are. That being said I do enjoy the story and I plan on getting the next book, but depending on how this goes I may stop after the first "season" of books. It's not because ofthe writing, she's great at that but I don't want to spend like $40 on basically one book that was released in chapters.
This was a great read. It was very quick to read, and lots of suspense to keep you reading. A little mystery behind the characters of the story, which led you to wanting more and more. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. This book kept me wanting more, and wondering what would happen next with the characters. I would highly recommend this book for anyone to read, if you like a little mystery, suspense and romance. With a cliffhanger at the end leading into the next book.
Wish this book had been put together in one book instead of multiple. I like how the writer has put this book together so far. There is a good plot for a great story a long the lines of something John Gresham wrote in THE Firm.
There is so much to find out but since I didn't like how it's written I won't be reading the rest of the series. Jenna's father tries to set her up with someone. He wants her to marry not out of love. Just like her father and mother.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
These books had the potential to make a really great series. Hence the four stars. But breaking it down into 16 novellas has really put me off. I couldn't justify spending that sort of money for books that are only 100 pages long. So the story ends here for me!
Again, a novella for .99 makes it a quick and easy read. The book is full of twists and turns and is keeping me guessing. The characters are well developed, I'm excited to learn more about them!
Jenna finds out some interesting information and leaves Japan with no job and her parents now controlling her life with she break free for Brandon or her not so dead fiance.
I like the story but can't stand that it's been cut into little pieces with cliff hanger endings. I will wait and see if they put it in a full novel and try reading again another time.
