This is a lovely book loaded with colorful photos and illustrated designs carefully detailing the names and numbers of plants, flowers, and trees. The only negative (and a large one) is that most of these gardens are recommended for coastal or Southern areas of the US and I could only find a couple for Northern Illinois.

Aside from the fact that this book was a little high on the drawings and a little low on the photos, it was still a pretty darn good book. There are a lot of great garden design ideas that I liked, and I was really happy to find some arrangement themes that would be fun to try. Choosing one of these pre-planned themes for a spot in your garden can take a lot of the headache out of trying to decide what to plant and then testing to see if it all works out together. It also has some great ideas about how to go about planning a flower garden.

This is a landscape design book that features actual plans for various situations, with sketches and lists of plants used. I found it very useful and helpful in my efforts to improve the landscape of my own yard. It is written and arranged in a very user friendly manner.

What I most liked about this book is that photographs of landscapes were paired with architectural drawings and listings of the actual plants used. I found this a very enjoyable landscape book to browse through.
