Robin Patchen is a USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of Christian romantic suspense. She grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, the setting of her Nutfield Saga books, and then headed to Boston to earn a journalism degree. After college, working in marketing and public relations, she discovered how much she loathed the nine-to-five ball-and-chain. After relocating to the Southwest, she started writing her first novel while she homeschooled her three children. The novel was dreadful, but her passion for storytelling didn’t wane. Thankfully, as her children grew, so did her writing ability. Now that her kids are adults, she has more time to play with the lives of fictional heroes and heroines, wreaking havoc and working magic to give her characters happy endings. When she’s not writing, she’s editing or reading, proving most of her life revolves around the twenty-six letters of the alphabet. This is a fast-paced romantic suspense that blends second-chance romance with high-stakes danger. Logan and Darcy have spent nearly a decade apart after heartbreak and life took them in opposite directions. But when a violent attack throws them together again, they’re forced to outrun a gunman—and their unresolved past.

The chemistry between Logan and Darcy is undeniable, simmering beneath the surface as they navigate the wilderness and their reawakening emotions. Logan is a grounded, dependable hero, while Darcy is both vulnerable and strong, making them a compelling pair to root for. Their reunion feels authentic, full of tension, regret, and the kind of love that never quite died.

The suspense element adds urgency and heart-pounding moments, but it never overshadows the emotional core of the story. The setting—rugged, wooded Maine—adds atmosphere and a sense of isolation that heightens the stakes.

If you like second-chance romance mixed with clean suspense, you will enjoy this one. I received this ebook for subscribing to the author's newsletter.

I completely enjoyed reading about Logan and Darcy. Their story starts out with a fairly normal-sounding plot with Logan and Darcy watching each other but neither one willing to break the silence and speak with the other due to circumstances that separated them years prior. Then came the twist! Shots fired. Running for their lives. So tired and hungry. Hurting. Hiding. Trying to stay ahead and outsmart the gunman. Still pulled toward and loving each other. I thought this book was very well written and well developed even though it covers a fairly short period of time. Well done!!

I loved this story. It was amazing that Darcy showed up at the book signing with her Aunt not knowing Logan would be there. I felt bad that they did not talk. When Logan found the car and found out it was Darcy’s his instinct was to find her and to protect her and MJ. I loved the suspense that you constantly wrote into this story. How when MJ sprained her ankle and Logan just carried her on his back to try to get to a safe place. When they were at the creek and he had to hide MJ because he had to tackle Darcy so the shooter wouldn’t see her was so scary. Then they reached the cottage and safety for awhile but when Darcy wandered off and almost got caught was very scary. Then having to relocate again was more scary and not getting all the way there before the shooter saw Darcy was even worse. Her idea to get away was good but somehow the shooter got her. Logan was beside himself drawn between Darcy and MJ for safety. When Logan realized who the shooter was scary and heartbreaking for him. Then when he was able to end the whole affair was such a good feeling. Then the happily ever after in this story was great. Well written book. I would recommend that everyone read this great story. I received a free copy of this book and am leaving this review of my own free will.

This is a clean, Christian suspense romance. It is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone.

Darcy comes back to Shadow Cove with her aunt, who is an author. She is used to spend every summer with her aunt there and is now her aunt’s publicist. She is avoiding looking at Logan, who was her sweetheart when she spent summer’s there. He is the caterer for the school reunion event. Logan finds Darcy and her aunt MJ after someone has been shooting at them. He helps try to keep them safe as they are being tracked down. Who is the target? Can logan keep them safe? Will there be a second chance for Darcy and Logan?

This was the first time reading this author’s work. It was great and it drew me in. I ended up buying other books to read. She keeps you on your toes wondering who is the shooter and who is the target. I didn’t want to put the book down, but alas, one must sleep and I still have to work. But I really enjoyed the suspense.

I received an ARC from the author and am leaving an honest review.

📚 Series: The Wright Heroes of Maine (Book 0.5)
🎭 Genre: Romantic Suspense

🥜In a Nutshell: A man runs into his past love at an event he's catering. He does his best to avoid her until shots are fired and suddenly they are on the run in the wilderness from someone who wants her dead.

✅ Fast-Paced Suspense
✅ Second Chance Romance
✅ Strong Faith Content

This is exactly what I had been missing from romantic suspense lately. In recent months, anytime I read a suspense book it felt lacking in suspense and instead focused more on the mystery. This book hit the ground running and didn't let up until the end. I also enjoyed the second chance romance and the faith content. Even though this was a shorter novella, it felt like a full story and I wasn't left wanting more. I also liked that the mystery wasn't predictable and I was surprised by the end. Overall, I enjoyed my first Robin Patchen book and I can't wait to read more from her in the future.

Logan is at his 10 year class reunion. He is the caterer. His father had a stroke and passed away when he was in college so he came home to run the restaurant and take care of his mom and siblings. Darcy was his love and she finished college and stayed in NYC. She couldn't understand why he would give up his dreams to help his family. Now it's the reunion and they have avoided each other all weekend. Darcy is there with her aunt who spoke to the group and did a book signing. As Darcy and MJ are leaving a gunman shoots at their car. They escape into the woods. Logan comes along and sees the wrecked car and goes after them. This begins a run through the woods to try and find safety before the gunman finds them. Is the gunman after Aunt MJ or Darcy? Very good book on understanding what each person is going through. The past as seen from each person's perspective. Finding healing from old scars.

This was quite a story. I felt like I was always looking over my shoulder to see what the happen next.

Logan and Darcy had been in love and best friends, but almost 10 years has passed since they last saw each other. Darcy comes from money and when she returns with her aunt to Shadow Cove for a book event, Logan is the caterer for the event. When someone opens fire on Darcy and her aunt and sends them a run for their lives through the forest, Logan is determined to keep them both safe. It was hard to stay one step ahead of the gunman. I was literally biting my nails not knowing how the story would end. You will be happy to know that there is a happy ending and the gunman is now someone you would expect.

I'm really getting into this series and even though I read this out of order, I loved this story! It's a fast-paced romantic suspense and I enjoyed the characters very much! There are a lot of twists and turns and has a surprising ending. That alone sold me on this book! I liked the spiritual growth of Darcy, especially. Logan also grows during the "running for your life" but he's more grounded in his faith.
Darcy and her aunt are suddenly ambushed while leaving an event and Logan finds their vehicle. He takes them on the run into the woods to try to outrun the sniper. All 3 of them have no idea who is gunning for them. Darcy and Logan used to seriously date until Logan had to break it off to take care of his family.
I really loved how the characters find their way back to each other.

Excellent Read!

I have read several books in this series and totally enjoyed them. This prequel was fast paced, well written, and filled with likable finely drawn characters. There was also fear, and extreme danger as the three main characters fought to stay alive all while running, hiding and trying to stay ahead of a crazed person intent on killing them. Also there is Faith woven throughout the story and two people reconnecting and trying to make sense of what happened to tear them apart. Entertaining, with some tears and edge of the seat angst along the way to a very surprising end. A clean read with emphasis on love, faith and the power of prayer. Highly recommend.

Intriguing story! I especially liked it the more Darcy and Logan’s backgrounds and personal talk grew alongside the thriller element.

They’re a good “second chance” match; when they started to give it another go, it made sense. And even arguing felt real and well-formulated to me, too.

I also liked the theme of God’s unconditional love so Darcy could get past her unkind dad.

Overall, I really like Robin Patchen’s style!

Escaping with You, by Robin Patchen is a prequel to the Wright Heroes of Maine series. While it may be a bit shorter than her usual books, it is filled with suspense and takes you on a rollercoaster ride as the story plays out to an unexpected ending. There is a hint of the next book to come but this is not a cliff hanger. It was a clean read and thoroughly enjoyable.

I did receive an ARC but with no expectations of a positive review and the the opinions expressed above are entirely my own.

Due to some confusion, I reread this book again this year. I am still confused why it is labelled as Book 0.5. It's an interesting, fast moving story love, family issues, and finding love again, but it's also a mystery, escape, hunt and rescue story. I didn't really find it totally believable, and I am not sure why as I wanted to keep reading to the end. I think the characters felt too immature, boastful, and uncertain to me, and seemed more like a YA book.

As I started reading this book, I realized that I had read it previously. I liked the point that all of us are precious children of God. I did think the premise that Jonas was the shooter was unrealistic. If it were he, he would have been shooting at Logan to eliminate the rival for Darcy's affection.

Another great book bye Robin Patchen

Suspense, twists and turns, and the unexpected. You won't be able to put Escaping With You down. My favorite part Is Darcy's struggle with seeing her worth through God's eyes. I too felt never good enough for my earthly parents, and have the same insecurities. You will Love this book!!

A great story!

Although this doesn't technically follow a Wright like the full books in this series, Sam from book 1 plays a small role. 😉

Enjoyed Darcy and Logan's second chance romance. Was a pretty full on reconnection, though, LOL! Can't say I'd ever want to experience what they did, but it was certainly a suspenseful, thrilling ride!

This book grabbed me from the first chapter, and it continued to build in intensity, suspense, and danger. Logan and Darcy, trying to avoid contact at the beginning. But knowing she was in danger, Logan had to protect her. This is a beautiful story of love that never died, given a second chance. This will appeal to anyone who likes mystery and surprise endings. It won't disappoint.

Logan and Darcy along with her Aunt MJ are running for their lives. Someone is shooting at the ladies but who? Logan is trying to get them out of the woods to safety. Will they manage to escape? or will the shooter finally out maneuver them?

There is a twist near the end in the plot that was surprising.

fantastic story again

I don’t know how some authors can write stories that just flow, just grab you and suck you in and you can’t put the book down because you just have to know what happens next….but Robin does it Every. Single. Time. Can’t wait for book 7!

Wow! Did not know what to expect but this book was enthralling from the very first sentence to the very last. It had everything. Drama, suspense, family relationships, and of course romance. I am reading more and more second chance at romance books and this is definitely one of the better ones. I am talking second chance with an old love not a divorced or widowed person getting a second chance. I truly enjoyed the characters in this book. It certainly was different from most other romantic suspense books. I liked the setting. Maine is getting to be very popular in books so I might have to go and take a visit. The story was compelling. Some extremely emotional and very sad moments but also some joy. Now I am eager to read others in the Wright Heroes of Maine books and would like to thank Robin Patchen for providing me with an ebook for subscribing to her newsletter.
