(Part 1 in a 5-Part Series) ____________________________________ No One Gets Out Alive.
Soldiers, spies, assassins, and bodyguards. They are what you need them to be—shadow operators. Unsanctioned by governments and unhindered by borders or laws, they are the first and last resort.
Nick Hobbs is one of the best, a legend in the making, but even the best can sometimes use a hand.
Winter Tolliver was once a victim, but never again. From spoiled rich girl to highly skilled operative, she’s determined to carve out her own future.
Their paths cross while pursuing a scientist whose latest discovery may have just altered the balance of global power. Everyone wants it, and everyone will do whatever it takes to get it.
Two people, two organizations, separate ideologies. Both people want to be faithful to their own organization and each other. That is not possible.....
"The Shadow Operators Part 1 - Origins" is a solid introduction to what I hope will be a very good five-part series. The way in which Sisavath introduces readers to what appears to be the three main characters of the tale works well. There is Nick Hobbs, a highly-skilled operative in a private organization, and Winter Tolliver, a well-bred English 21-year-old spending her birthday in Caracas, Venezuela, where things did not go quite so well for her on that trip. How their lives became initially linked in that city is developed through good-paced narrative, though at times a bit over the top. Following a period of time, Winter is a changed woman; still sexy, but now also very deadly. Then the third character, Renn, is introduced when these two pair up on a well-executed rescue op. Part 1 then leads you in to what will most likely become the main storyline, all of them chasing a paranoid scientist who is carrying a 16GB flash drive, and does leave you wishing that you did not have to wait for Part 2. That said, with Part 1 at 85 pages, if all 5 parts are similar in length, this will be a nice long tale.
Sisavath is a pleasure to read. This is a pretty shallow and thin story; more like a few sample sections from an in-progress novel than a finished work. But this author is no slouch: his characters, scenarios and descriptions come alive on the page.
I'd be interested to see a longer novel or trilogy from him, one that feels a little less rushed than most of his books (which, don't get me wrong, are still great, fun, well-written reads).
This book probably would have earned five stars if it was more cohesive. As usual, the author's writing is excellent, exciting and intriguing, but the scenes just jumped around too much for me. Granted, when the next book comes out, it certainly will be on my reading list!
Story is disjointed. Haven't been able to connect with the characters. After reading I just feel empty like this book was a synopsis rather than a complete story.
entertaining and quite readable.. ill not be complaining about t the grammar or punctuation..the story did for me what it was meant to do and that was to offer enjoyment of a wild tale well told. I'm hope there are more with these two prodding the writer to take up his pen..it be a shame if not.
