English actress Jenna Sutton and American artist Guy Sinclair first meet when they jointly inherit a house on the west coast of Ireland. Curious about their unknown benefactress and why they are considered 'family', they discover surprising links to the original owners of the house.
They soon unravel an intriguing tale of a 19th century love affair. At the same time, their mutual attraction grows, despite personal reasons for not wanting romantic involvements at this point in their lives.
A local property agent appears to have her own agenda concerning the house while other events pull Jenna and Guy back to separate lives in London and America. Friction builds over their decision about the house and its contents.
Will their Irish inheritance eventually drive them apart – or bring them together?
Paula Martin was born in Lancashire, England. She had some early publishing success with short stories and four novels, but then had a break from writing while she brought up a young family and also pursued her career as a history teacher for twenty-five years. She has recently returned to writing fiction, after retiring from teaching. She lives near Manchester in North-West England, and has two daughters and two grandsons. Apart from writing, she has enjoyed travelling extensively in Britain, mainland Europe, America and Canada and loves Ireland especially. Her other interests include musical theatre and researching her family history.
What a wonderful visit to the Emerald Island, I enjoyed the travel and the escape to a lovely place. I found the idea quite thrilling, it was like a detective story, quite captivating.
Fantastic plot line and descriptions of the Irish settings. There's some very descriptive sex scenes which may not be for everyone, though. I'm usually not fond of that in a book, but the story itself was excellent without it.
This was a wonderful story. The story flowed very well. It really showed us the beauty and the history of family and the love of that history truly helps the family grow.
This book begins with two people finding that they have been left a half share of a house in Ireland by Miss Helena Keating, a lady neither of them had ever heard of. Jenna Sutton is an aspiring English actress, while Guy Sinclair is an American artist.
The house is in Clifden, County Galway and known by it's Irish name of "Mist Na Mara". The two travel to Ireland to find out more about the house and find themselves on a mystery. Research through family trees reveal unexpected relatives and big decisions to be made about the future of the house.
The story takes the reader on a lovely trail around the Emerald Isle mixed with the people through history who brought Jenna and Guy to the romantic house of the cliff tops of the wild rugged coastline, and where ghosts can finally be laid to rest. The couple must work through their own needs for the future so that they can decide what to do with their inheritance.
This is the first book I've read by Ms. Martin, but she enticed me with her short teases on Snippet Sunday. I grabbed a copy as soon as it came out and I wasn't disappointed. It's a sweet romance with a cool mystery to entice the characters all the way through. I was intrigued by how the characters were related to the deceased and couldn't put it down as they traveled all over Ireland to find answers. I thoroughly enjoyed the tale and how Guy and Jenna had to tread carefully and make tough choices when it came right down to the end. If you like romance with mystery and genealogy, this is a story worth reading.
A lovely tale of two people meant to be together and the house in Ireland that made it all come true. When Guy Sinclair, an American artist, and Jenna....., an English actress, discover they each have inherited a half interest in a beautiful home on the West coast of Ireland, their lives take a completely unanticipated turn. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be soon reading the next one, Irish Intrigue.
The author's former life as a history teacher has helped her paint the picture of a house and its inhabitants from Victorian times down through the years to Guy and Jenna, the decendants of another artist and actress who loved their Irish home, Mist Na Mara.
This book drew me in from start to finish. I took each step of Jenna's and Guy's journeys with them as they uncovered the connection between them. The description in Irish Inheritance of the old house, Mist na Mara, was excellent. I walked around the house in my head, I could picture the bedrooms, the kitchen and even the drive up to it. I loved this book. I think Paula Martin is an excellent storyteller and it shows in her characters, plot and the overall book.
This book drew me in from the onset. Possibly with it being set a few hours drive from where I live. Jenna and Guy were 2 people that you just hoped would have their dreams come true. Now it's on to book 2 for me to find out how they're all getting on
Author has such an unique way of making you feel like you are right there in Ireland with the characters and so easy to visualize the scenery This is a great book for anyone wanting to learn about Ireland
Loved the characters. This story has everything: mystery after mystery, tracing ones ancestry, history, wonderfully described scenic locations, a glimpse into the arts, and romance.
Jenna and Guy are both surprised when they jointly inherit a house in Ireland from a woman they never knew. In addition to wanting to solve the mystery of why they inherited the house — which they fall in love with, they immediately become extremely attracted to one another. But of course, there are roadblocks. Guy is American, while Jenna is English, and an aspiring actress, who just might be on the verge of making her big break. How it all plays out is very interesting (though I could have done without the sex scene).
I had finished reading my last 3 books in a series and as I looked through the books on my kindle I found this one. Since we were still in Ireland I thought it would be s fun book.
So, yes this is another predictable love story but I enjoyed hearing the story of the ancestors and how the two families were connected. There were some interesting characters in the story. Some were fun and I could picture them and some were not so nice .
It was OK, tbh although I'm into family history I found myself getting lost in who was who outside of the main historic characters (Ellen and Edwin). I read this book as part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription (free book but I have to pay £7.99 a month for the subscription) so was rather annoyed to find that the rest of the series is not on Kindle Unlimited and I don't think I liked it enough to pay an additional £10+ for the rest of the series!
She’s a budding actress and he’s a painter. They’ve just inherited a home in Ireland. They work together to find out why they inherited it. Of course they fall in love but it’s a bumpy road.
What an intriguing story. I enjoyed how the characters of Guy and Jenna described Ireland and her majestic scenery while driving around. The story line flowed right along in finding out who and what this inheritance was about. I guess they could have done 23 and me next time😁
I chose five stars because this was such a fun book. I am of Irish decent and have done genealogy. So all of the family mystery was so enjoyable. I don't often read romance stories but this was sweet and just enough of it being complicated. I don't like reviews that retell the story of give things away, so I will say, read it, you'll enjoy it.
