I think A Most Unlikely Countess can be summarized as a sweet sigh.
We met Liz briefly in book one, Pink Pucks and Power Plays. She is the quiet obituary writer for the same newspaper that Viviana worked for. You could tell from her small part that she was smitten with Veikko. But who wouldn’t be. He’s a talk blond drink of water but he totally scares her to death. Desperate times change all that. Now she has been hired to write his memoirs. Will she be able to make it a full month in the same house with her favorite erotic dream?
Veikko is well…oh my goodness the sweetest thing since honey. Though he is big and strong, he has a heart of gold. He loves his family and he has desires to start his own. How he got hooked up with his fiancée I’ll never know. Since you never get into Veikko’s head you never understand the how, why or what is going on with him. He obviously adores his fiancée, but what is causing his anger and disappointment?
A Most Unlikely Countess takes place for just over a month. We get to see how Liz and Veikko interact and how their friendship grows. I can’t say much more or I’ll give the plot away. Let’s just say, Liz opens up and blossoms and you also get to see what makes Veikko into the man he is, through her eyes.
I love the slow sensual feel of the book. While Pink Pucks and Power Plays had me up in arms at times, A Most Unlikely Countess was smooth like fine whiskey. There was very little drama and that is a surprise considering the love triangle implications. This was such a great read and I’m not even sure if I’m missing the hockey in these hockey based books. Even though I say this book is sigh-worthy, the sex content is not. It is just perfect without being explicit. It is just the right mixture of heat, descriptions and passion to get you all excited.
I really enjoyed this story. I was hopeful that their story will be told and I couldn’t’ be happier. It is such sweet story. I’m not sure if you could actually label them as opposites, but I will say that they are most definitely two puzzle pieces that fit perfectly together. Ms. Locey did a wonderful job and I can’t wait to read the next in the series, O Captain! My Captain!

Wow... I loved, loved, loved this book. Elizabeth just captured my heart with her shyness and insecurity. Veikko is an absolute dream. He is brash, bold, gentlemanly, and all gooey goodness all rolled into one. The locker room scene is one of my favorites throughout the whole book. This story was so much fun to read.
It is a dream come true for Elizabeth when she is offered the job of a lifetime. However, she does not know if she has the nerve to accept it. This story pulls the reader in until they are telling the characters how to act. Makes you want to watch some hockey too.
I give this book a 5 star rating because it had me so engrossed that I could not concentrate on anything else. Yup just like a junkie, I could not put down my drug of choice, a good book. If this is not on your TBR, it should be.

That was fabulous! I love, love, love Lizzie. She might be a shy and withdrawn introvert around most people, but she has a wit that is sharp and sarcastic and kept me laughing throughout the book. Her internal monologue was just as funny as her external dialogue. While she might allow some people to walk all over her, they better watch out when they are inappropriate toward those close to her because she defends them with vigor. That she is in lust with a six-foot-plus Viking god just makes her that much more relatable. Her shyness is painfully hilarious when faced with said Viking god aka hockey goalie Veikko Aho. Case in point, “My brain was screaming for someone in my cranial language department to make words. Obviously they were on a coffee break. Some weird gurgle happened in my throat.”
As for the Viking god, Veikko is HOT. As much as I liked the way he treated Lizzie, I loved the way he was with Lizzie’s mom. It spoke volumes about his character and made is so easy to fall for him … Lizzie never stood a chance. Of course there’s the icing on the cake … the sex was superb. Ms. Locey wrote some panty-melting scenes between Lizzie and Veikko. I’d like to order me up my own Viking god hockey player. While there was not a lot of external drama, what did occur made my heart hurt for Lizzie. Granted, after reading Pink Pucks & Power Plays I expected a happy ending so I wasn’t ready to fling myself off a roof along with Lizzie, but I still hurt for her.
A Most Unlikely Countess is a great sports romance that kept me laughing throughout the entire read. Ms. Locey’s writing flowed smoothly and I enjoyed spending time in Lizzie’s head – again, killer inner monologues. I liked the first book in the series, but I absolutely LOVED this book. While I think it’s going to be tough to out-do this one, I am looking forward to reading O Captain, My Captain – Maggie and Derrick’s story should be a blast too.

As for the Viking god, Veikko is HOT. As much as I liked the way he treated Lizzie, I loved the way he was with Lizzie’s mom. I loved Viv and Alain in book one – Pink Pucks and Power Plays – but I have to tell you Liz and Veikko are my favorites. I loved Liz and felt I could totally relate to her. I saw so much of my daughter, and a little of myself, in her character. Liz’s wit was hilarious and had me laughing aloud many times. I’d have to say my favorite is definitely the locker room interview, but how can you not mention the “over-the-shoulder-bolder-holder strangulation” line-Classic!
Liz is so shy and withdrawn around people and hides in her Goth clothes and hair. She has her close, core people she can talk to, but her main priority is taking care of her mentally frail mother. When the opportunity arrives to better her and her mom’s life by taking four weeks to live with and write the memoirs of hot and sexy goalie, Veikko Aho, she can’t refuse.
Viekko, Viekko, Viekko…hmm… now that man is sex-on-a-stick. He has such a heart of gold. The way he is with Liz is heartwarming, and how he treats her mother is unsurpassed. Too bad he has a fiancé…
When it was time to return to her normal life I wasn’t prepared for how I teared up and my throat constricted. Those were some very emotional scenes. You definitely have to read this to see what transpires during Liz’s stay with Viekko and what it means for all of their lives.
I felt so many emotions while reading this book. I didn’t want it to end. I was laughing and falling in love right along with Liz. It was encouraging to see Liz come out of her shell and blossom. The connection between her and Viekko felt so real and genuine. I adored their names for each other – Piglet and Pooh - and the end…oh my God - Perfect!
V.L. Locey is definitely one I have added to my list of favorite authors and I can’t wait to read book 3 with Derrick and Maggie. The Wildcat Series is a MUST READ!

Liz gets an opportunity to write memoirs of hockey stud Veikko Aho. If this works out it could jump start her writing career and really help both her an her mom. One thing I wish I knew more was about Liz's mom. It appears she's sick but I was a little confused as to what was wrong with her. This is something I felt should have been addressed in the beginning when her mom was first introduced because I felt confused trying to figure out why her mom would act like a child so to speak. Even though Veikko is engaged to another, her friend Viviana is trying to convince Liz that she should open herself up to him. After all, Veikko and his fiance are having problems. I have to say, I am surprised Frank is able to get away with the stuff he says to Viviana when she worked at the paper and now Liz. He is brutal to Liz, I would quit that job and never look back. I mean the guys in general that work at the paper are just terrible, well except Oscar, he's awesome. It's the 21st century, something should be done about this! Once she first meets Veikko, feelings start to surface but she knows that he is taken so nothing would ever come of it. Would her developing feelings jeopardize her up and coming writing career or will it end up working out in her favor. Knowing the Veikko and his fiance are having problems, does that mean an end to their relationship soon? I definitely like this story best of the two I've read so far in the series.

I'll be honest, if I hadn't read the other books in the series I would have skipped this book just because of the title. I read the title and though Huh? I didn't know Vicki wrote historicals? LOL It's NOT a historical, and the title does fit the story, but if you haven't read the series you wouldn't now that.
Poor Lizzie has gotten the short stick in life. She works in the basement of the Green Hills Gazzette writing obits. Her mom's cheese has slipped off her cracker. She dresses like an 80's reject goth and hides behind her dyed black bangs and black lipstick, because if no one sees her she is safe from rejection, right?
Veikko Oho has it all. He's the Count of the Crease. Is engaged to a beautiful lawyer. Is scheduled to star in a movie. Is writing his memoirs , at 31, but it's all a facade. He want someone real and warm to love and come home to every night. Not a social climbing pretty face who only want to use him. His hockey playing is suffering and his smile is slipping, until piglet walks into his life.
I loved the interaction between Veikko and Liz. The way he treated her mother and the heat level of this book. The only thing I didn't like was that Veikko never told Liz how he felt until it was almost too late. Typical man.
Still it was a great story and did I say Hot?

I loved this second book in the To Love a Wildcat series!
I truly appreciated how well-written Liz's character was. Great care was taken with her inner monologue so you could truly understand how painfully shy she was. As a woman who used to be the same way I've heard the same types of justifications for behavior go through my head a million times. And Liz's snark had me literally laughing out loud...even more so than Viv's in the first book! And Veikko...what can you say about a somewhat insecure hockey god?? He was real and down to earth, which made him likable. His gentleness with Liz's situation with her mother won me over though. Nothing like a man who is tough-as-nails in his professional life and a big teddy bear in his personal one ::sigh::
The "Cinderella" type story fit Liz's character perfectly as well. The story was easy to follow in spite of the many different things going on with the characters. And I loved to see the recurring characters in this story, and that they haven't changed in spite of everything going on around them.
Then, of course, the hockey action was superb. I love going to games and the description of the stadium was so good that I could almost smell the ice and start salivating over the smell of concessions...

What another great book to the Wildcat series. I really enjoyed this book. This was a really fast read and ended almost too quickly. Everything happened within a little over 1 month and the timeline didn't seem exactly right. I think it may have been because it kept notating about a 1 month time frame and then at one point it was thrown in about taking 1 additional week off. It was such a small blurb, I almost missed it.
What kept this from getting 5 stars from me was the fact that it was written as a single pov. This story could have really used Veikko's pov as well. I think that would have made the story stronger. This was written in first person which I enjoyed. Just wish we could have seen more of Veikko.
I loved the interactions between Veikko and Liz but could have used more of it. The sexy bits were okay, but could have been a little stronger. Wasn't panty melting but had some heat. Their dialogue was intriguing and the descriptions to details were done well.
All in all, a good read and I look forward to reading book 3 and the rest of the series.

Liz is so shy and insecure and complete opposite of Veikko. Elizabeth was given the opportunity of a lifetime- to write Veikko's memoir. What would you do if this was your opportunity? Jump for it!! Right? Did it change her life? Elizabeth's mother is sick.
I love the nicknames that they have for one another- Piglet and Pooh. It is so cute and sweet. My favorite part was how a daughter took care of her mother. Yes, we don't actually know the name of what her mother has. I am guessing some kind of OCD and anxiety, but I am not sure. I think the gnomes are a great addition to the book.
My favorite scene is where Elizabeth was in the locker room after a practice getting the guys to talk about Veikko. It was funny! You have to remember that Elizabeth is shy!! ;)
I love the To Love a Wildcat series. I can not wait to read book #3, Oh Captain! My Captain!, about Maggie. There are 6 books total in this series (Amazon has 6 listed, but Goodreads has 5 listed). I love reading sports themed books. I loved Viviana and Alain in book #1.

There was so much to this story that captured my attention and kept me hooked, reading straight through to the end. I love the Wildcat franchise and all the characters it brings to the story, there's just enough sport theme in the book to add flavor, but not enough to overwhelm the reader if sports aren't there thing. I enjoyed getting a glimpse of where Alain and Viviana are in their lives after book one, and enjoyed meeting some new players (who get their own stories, yay!).
Veikko and Liz have such an interesting story. Liz is a heroine that I can really relate to, she lives on the outside of society, she takes care of her mother and avoids the rest, hiding behind her goth image. She's described as mousy a few times, and I really do picture her as being timid and scared, but the transformation of her character throughout the book is realistic and enjoyable. Veikko is the hero of all heroes, accepting Liz's mother, her goth style, and seeing her for who she is aside from all that. Their journey was a sweet romance with just a hint of some spice thrown in (I would have liked the sex scenes to be just a little spicier).
I would recommend starting with book 1 in the series, as it does refer back to an event that happened in the previous book.

Goth meets guy and goes happy
Hockey romance is a new genre for me, but thanks to books like "A Most Unlikely Countess", I am in love. V.L.Locey begins with a most unlikely heroine, gives her some significant family handicaps, and then - pours in a few pounds of humor. Between garden gnomes and Gandalf the ferret, a most unusual mother, and a wicked ex-girlfriend, the lovers work their way from getting to know each other to finally GETTING TO KNOW each other. In addition to touching (very lightly) on the perils of caring for a parent with a mental illness, this book explores friendships between women and the occasional people who exist and care for their friends enough to take risks, loudly, as does "secondary heroine" Viviana. I love these ladies, and am looking forward to getting to know them better!
This book is slightly sexual....I would not hand it to my mom to read. But I would have no problem leaving it at her house, where she would no doubt find it and read it. And be scandalized by learning about the tribal adornments of today's people.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite sports series. This was a quick easy read with a well written storyline, awesome characters and plenty of humor. The ease in which Velkko took in and excepted all the crazy baggage that came with Elizabeth was truly heart warming. The amusing dialog both inside her head and spoken by Elizabeth is sure to make you smile and the whole garden gnome thing will make you laugh out loud. Some might argue that their relationship moved rather quickly but I have to disagree. They spent a lot time getting to know each other as they worked on his book and probably knew more about each other than people who had been dating for a long time. I like how Ms. Locey's stories quickly grab your attention and pull you into the world she has created. She uses emotion, humor, fun and accurate words and phrases for the sport she is including in her tale. The sports scenes are realistic and keep you on the edge of your seat just like the characters you are reading about. An awesome fun story for hockey romance readers.

I'm giving this terrific story of two unlikely lovers 4.5 stars. Eizabeth is a warm-hearted heroine with piercings who takes care of her mom. She meets Veikko, gorgeous Nordic pro hockey goalie. Enough details. The story had a good pace, not rushed, as the characters came to life, finely drawn, but not endlessly detailed. I enjoyed them all, from quirky Elizabeth to whacky mom to smooth Veikko. As always with this author's prose, I was sucked into the story right away. While first person isn't my favorite pov, V. L. Locey makes it work beautifully with lively language, perfect descriptions, a credible plot, plenty of action and heat. Yes, I couldn't put it down, but didn't want it to end. I can't wait to read Maggie's story, the third in this series.

Liz write the obituaries in a local paper and dresses just as somber. When her best friend get her a writer's dream job, she is doubtful to take it. She can't leave her mom who suffers from a mental disability that we never quite know what that is. She met Veikko before and is very shy to see him again. She also feels that she can't leave her job. Pushed into at least taking a meeting, she learns how much she can make by writing the memoir of the Count of the Crease, Veikko Aho.
Liz is a breath of fresh air for Veikko. When his engagement is broken, he allows himself to open up to Liz more than just a subject to his writer. He helps Liz bring color into her world.

Eeeek! I LOVED THIS BOOK! It was a little slow to start but once it got started I was hooked. I read from start to finish in one sitting. I have a weakness for Finnish goalies, so I loved Veikko from the start. His ex I wanted to kill, mainly because my fav goalie had a similar ex. I'm glad she got hers. Elizabeth I could relate to, being an introvert. I loved falling in love right along with her. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. Waiting for the box set to mid July! Highly recommend this book.

I'm loving the Wildcats series! The second book lived up to the promise of the first. Like the first book, this story was a fast-paced, easy read that was over too soon. I'm onto book #3 in the series and have already preordered #4. If you like your romance with sexy, hockey playing hotties then VL Locey's Wildcats series is most definitely for you! :)

I really fell in love with this book the characters and the story just sucked me in from page 1! its so real and you don't expect what happens as your turn every page!! I'm seriously a new fan of this author because well Hockey romance!!
