📚⚔️ Manga Review | Reign of the Seven Spellblades Vol. 8 ⚔️📚 🪄🌙🩸
"At Kimberly Magic Academy, survival has always been part of the curriculum."
Volume 8 brings the first-year students closer than ever to the darkness hidden within Kimberly's walls. As Ophelia nears the manifestation of the Salvadori spell, Oliver and his friends launch a desperate rescue mission despite overwhelming odds stacked against them.
From the very beginning, this series has felt like a darker and more mature cousin of Harry Potter—and Volume 8 perfectly showcases why.
✨ The world-building remains one of the strongest aspects of the series. Kimberly feels alive, dangerous, and unpredictable. Magic isn't simply a tool for casting spells; it's a force that shapes society, bloodlines, politics, and even morality.
⚡ Unlike Hogwarts, the professors at Kimberly are rarely warm or reassuring figures. Many are frightening, morally questionable, or simply indifferent to student safety. That atmosphere constantly reminds readers that this is a world where magical talent does not automatically make someone a good person.
🌑 What truly sets this series apart is its willingness to explore the darker side of magic. Some magical traditions and bloodlines are genuinely disturbing, especially those connected to the Salvadori lineage. The series doesn't shy away from uncomfortable themes, and while they can be difficult to read, they also reinforce how dangerous and twisted magic can become when mixed with obsession and desire.
👥 The friendship between Oliver, Nanao, Katie, Pete, Michela, and Guy continues to be the emotional heart of the story. Watching them risk everything for one another remains one of the most rewarding parts of the series.
💭 I genuinely love this series. It captures the wonder of discovering magic while never letting readers forget how terrifying that same magic can be. If you're looking for a magical school story with darker themes, higher stakes, and morally gray characters, this series delivers exactly that.
⭐ Rating: 5/5
🔥 What I Loved: ✔ Rich and detailed magical world-building ✔ Dark, dangerous atmosphere ✔ Complex magical systems and bloodlines ✔ Strong character relationships ✔ High emotional stakes
⚠️ Content Warning: This series contains mature themes, body horror, violence, and some unsettling magical concepts that may make certain readers uncomfortable.
So the mad dash to stop the half succubus lady continues. Pete almost dies but his friends make it in time and they unfortunately run directly into Ophelia. She starts her spell, they try desperately to stop her, they fail and she creates a Jujutsu Kaisen-esque domain that is a magical womb to create the ultimate life form…quite possibly at the cost of her life.
Then her best friend shows up with her crush. Her best reveals their special power, which is singing, to calm Ophelia down enough to let everyone else escape before the magic collapses and kills them both. …What?
And the series ends with our main six becoming second year students and promising to strive to make this cutthroat magic murder school a little safer and nice for future students. WHY WAS THIS SCHOOL ALLOWED TO BE OPEN?!?!
Yeah, not a good series. The plot is all over the place, there’s too many “main” characters and not nearly enough time to get to know them even if they weren’t bland as oatmeal. Too much and not enough? But hey, it’s over.
The ending for Ophelia was rather tragic. Overall I did really enjoy the series. The art was always very good. I wish that some topics would of been expanded on but I guess it was better to end the series here on a high note rather than drag it out like many others do.
