No Summer Hotter than You is a contemporary romance about two friends falling in love with each other while fake dating. It has an HEA and contains open door spice.
Cee Yang (she/her) is a first-generation Hmong-American, born and raised in California. At 15, she wrote her first YA paranormal romance on a whim and has never stopped writing since. She loves to write romance with plenty of fluff, spice, and swoon.
When she’s not writing contemporary romances, she is writing romance fantasies as C.L. Lor. In addition, on her off time, she enjoys anime, Asian dramas, and a good matcha latte.
You can follow her on Instagram and TikTok @theceeyang.
I was a little apprehensive going into this because I'm not usually the biggest fan of fake dating. But I was pleasantly surprised that this one was so good!
Shoua is such a good FMC she always puts on a strong face even when her family is being cruel to her but lets down her guard for her best friend who she is secretly in love with Anthony. I love her journey with putting herself as a priority and standing up for herself.
Anthony was charming and charismatic (I can see why Shoua would be in love with him) he is also so sweet and caring. I love when a MMC is so sweet and gentle and love to take care of the FMC but is a little dirty in the bedroom.
This book had it all plenty of tropes friends to lovers, she falls first but he falls harder and fake dating but its so much more than its tropes. I cannot recommend this book enough and I will definitely be reading the rest of Cee Yang's books!
Thank you so much for the ARC of no summer hotter than you. I will definitely be picking uo a paperback to have as a trophy on my bookshelf.
I can't even put into words how much I enjoyed this book and how emotional it made me. I love the fake dating trope so much and in "No Summer Hotter Than You" it was executed perfectly.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 👥 The two main protagonists and two POVs in NSHTY are Shoua and Anthony. Their POVs were a pleasure to read and they both have a lovely and unique personality. I loved learning about their hobbies and preferances and I feel like I gotten to know them really well.
𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 💭 The Chemistry between them both was insanely perfect and understandable. It felt so natural and easy to read. It was so well written that I felt the scenes close to my heart, sometimes I even had to take a break to stomach the tension and scenes.
𝗪𝗵𝘆 5 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀? ⭐ I've read Some Things Never Change by Cee Yang before and I must say: NSHTY is also so freaking worth it!! NSHTY book is my favorite book so far in the Years in the Making series and I cannot wait to read the next one. If you love romance, fake dating, found family, emotional & amazing scenes and beautifully described scenery, you might love this book as much as I did.
In this story, we see how Anthony and Shoua decide to fake date in order to avoid having their meddling "aunt" (Anthony's mom's friend) try to set them up with her daughter and nephew.
Anthony and Shoua are best friends and next-door neighbors, and from the very first chapter, you can see how attentive and caring Anthony is towards her. One of the things I really loved about this story was the way that Anthony was always cluelessly in love with Shoua, and how he became even more attentive towards her when he finally figured it out.
I also enjoyed the way the author portrayed the negative impact that parents' expectations and demands can have on their children, and how, at the end of the day, it's our lives, and we should live it for us and not for other's expectations. I loved the banter with Jonathan, Andy, and Julie, and I truly hope that Jonathan gets a story next.
Quote: “Last week you said we were a mistake. Then, let me be the mistake you repeat again and again. Let me be your mistake for this summer and the next and then the one after that.”
WOW. This was a steamy romance! It featured the tropes fake dating, friends to lovers, and was a bit of a slow burn. There was a little bit of smut toward the end, but not in an over done way.
The characters were so believable and immersive. The panic attacks that Shoua suffered from felt so real to read, and the way that Anthony took care of her with no hesitation or qualms was perfect. Their love story was super sweet and fun to read.
This was the second book in a series. I haven’t read the first one, so I think it’s safe to say they don’t need to be read together and this could be consumed as a stand alone. I’m adding the first to my TBR though!
Another super cute, best friends to lovers romance from Cee Yang where the spice just pops up and slaps you right in the face 🤣 The "Dicktionary" at the was a great touch. Anthony & Shoua's story was text book fake dating and transitioned perfectly to the real relationship! Can't wait for book #3, and dare I think that it may be Jonathan's story?!
Received this book as an arc and I’m so glad I was given the opportunity to review this! The fake dating trope is one of my favorites and the transition from fake dating to true relationship in this book was so well written and developed. I cant wait to read book three and see where everyone’s journey goes!
Well well well if it isn’t a story with no third act breakup. This had too much family drama for me to handle and that is not in duration but rather in frequency. Overall okay story, many arguments, and OOH LA LA FAKE DATING.
I loved the book! Such an honor to be part of the ARC readers. Such great representation for Hmong girlies like me. I’m living for Shoua and Anthony- this book might just top the first in the series. I love the little aspects of Hmong culture in the story and I can see the writing growth from the author. This story kept me hooked and wanting more. Much love to Cee for creating main characters like me <3
Anthony Hughes– the man that you are. Ever since I met him in the STNC, I knew I was going to fall in love with him. But in this book, we get to see how well he treats Shoua, before and after fake dating. And I love him.
Shoua and Anthony are childhood friends turned neighbors turned into best friends. Out of panic, he claims that he is currently dating Shoua to get out of his mom (rather auntie’s) mission of matchmaking. Awkward touches turn into sizzling hot feelings. One kiss leads to one unforgettable night they can’t turn back on.
I was completely in awe of the family dynamic. Cee was amazing in addressing it so we as readers can view it in a third person’s perspective without actually going through the trauma. It showed Anthony and Shoua’s characters for maintaining respect for their elders while also standing up for themselves– a perfect balance of what we should be doing. Yang was also amazing in portraying Evelyn and Kelvin as villains because like realistically, why are you that adamant about breaking a couple up? Evelyn pissed me off sooo much. And I loved how peaceful and mature Shoua’s character was even though she was mistreated like she truly is an angel and I do applaud her for speaking to Evelyn, Kelvin, her mom, and even Aunt Sue nicely even though none of them deserve it. Another great book from Cee Yang– if she writes it, I’ll read it. Thank you Cee Yang for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I received this novel as an ARC and was so excited to read it. I ended up reading her first one, Some Things Never Change, before I read No Summer Hotter Than You. I mean, the title totally gives it away. Shoua and Anthony truly had an extremely HOT summer.
I loved this friends to lovers, childhood friends, don’t touch her, and fake dating trope. It had everything you could ask for in a smutty, spicy rom-com. Did I mention, rom-com? There were so many moments I laughed and kicked my feet in the air and then there were moments that I felt so heartbroken for Shoua. There were also lots of moments that made me feel like I shouldn’t be reading this in public. The spice is spicyyyy 🔥🔥🔥🔥. And, there’s a lot of it!!!
But overall, NSHTY was such a heartfelt novel that it made me feel like I was watching one of my favorite k-dramas. And that is saying a lot coming from me. 🤭
ARC Review! Shoua Lo is an Hmong American who agrees to fake date her childhood bestfriend, Anthony Hughes. The spice was crazy and maybe a little much for my liking, I thought I was going blind for a moment. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, this book hit really close to home, I admired the SE Asian representation in this book (being Lao American myself). I was surprised that there was no sugarcoating on the emotional/psychological abuse and also on the expectations when it came to being the only girl in an Asian household.
I really appreciated the SE Asian and mental health awareness that were represented in this book. 🫶 It made me feel seen.
First of all , this was so cute! I love the main characters Shoua and Anthony. While they are best friends and live in the same duplex, you can’t help that they are in love with each other.
Anthony is the type of friend that would be there for you no matter what and I love how he isn’t afraid to call out toxic behaviors, especially in families. Since Shoua’s mom is the “typical” immigrant mom, she had to listen and head so many criticisms her whole life. Shoua only lets Anthony see her true self after days with her family.
Not to mention , they are both 🌶️🥵. Especially when they thought they were just going to help each other out for one night!
Overall, I loved the book and the unfinished series. It felt homey to me as I was able to related and got to see that my cultures food and traditions were being mentioned.
Thank you for the opportunity of allowing me to receive this ARC Cee Yang! 🩷
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and I have found another author to follow! ‘No summer hotter than you’ is a an amazing read for those who enjoy spicy romance. I sat down with kindle and finished half of it before putting it down to sleep!
The characters are well written and the plot is beautiful. I couldn’t wait to see how the fake dating worked out and was never bored as I read. I would suggest this book to those who love the fake dating, friends to lovers, and the ‘she falls first and he falls harder’ tropes. Definitely read the trigger warnings! The emotionally abusive parent-child relationship was so well written I had to pause for a moment at certain parts.
Such a cute read! Starts off as a slow burn between long time best friends then turns into such a spicy novel. I loved everything about it! The growth between the 2 main characters, the way she handles toxic family members is a lot better than I would, the way they flow so effortlessly together. The spice was reeaalll good too. 5/5
I loved every bit of this book so much! I am so honored to have read this ARC! It was spectacular.
Firstly, I love a fake dating trope and will always choose to read one. So as as soon as I heard that rope, I knew this book would be great. I really enjoyed this book. The writing was perfect in my opinion. It was a great pace as well which made reading very fun. I loved the characters so much. They felt very relatable and also from day one, you just want everyone to win.
Shoua is my rock. I really loved her character a lot and felt connected to her. I think in a lot of ways, Shoua is a representation on how trauma can impact us for the better. She was just herself and I felt like her character really grew into this person that felt loved, supported and cared for. I also felt like the issues that Shoua dealth with were a good amount. It made me love the strength that she exuded. I just felt like her character was written beautifully and with a lot of love.
ANTHONY IS THE BEST BOOOK BOYFRIEND EVER. I loved him. I loved how he loved her and I just loved that he understood the assignment. He cared about her as a friend and a lover and when he couldn’t fight his instincts, he knew that he was hers. It was so beautiful the way he fell for her. The way he protected her made me literally cry. It was so lovely.
This love story was also about friendship in many ways and I think that was the most important part in the entire story. Even the friendship of the side characters were just lovely to read. Her friends, his cousins, his twin, all of the grew up together and stayed by each other from day one. I love books about long lasting friendships and how they can just really make people see different points of view. In the book, you get that.
The spice was about 3.8. It was there and I loved EVERY minute of it!!!! It was hot. I also appreciated the ending. There is a HEA and it doesn’t have a third act breakup. It’s two people realizing that they were man for each other.
Overall, I would highly recommend this book. I loved it so much and will be reading the book about Julie and Andy. I am so excited for book 3! Hoping it’s about two characters that I was intrigued by but we will see.
P.S. Her mother can kick rocks and blow bubbles, along with his Aunt. And I hope kelvin can’ t sleep at night.
♡ friends to lovers ♡ she falls first, he falls harder ♡ midsize fmc/golden retriever mmc ♡ fake dating ♡ next door neighbors ♡ open door spice
Big thank you to Cee Yang for allowing me to ARC read this book!! I'm forever grateful that you've allowed me to read book 1 and book 2 in this series early <3
This book was EVERYTHING to me. I've been waiting for Anthony's book ever since I finished Some Things Never Change back in January. I knew book 2 was gonna be my favorite and it did not disappoint! I fell in love with Cee's writing in book 1 and let me tell you it's even better in book 2. It's aging like fine wine to be honest. Her writing style is so easy to following and it just makes you feel like your in the world she's created.
As for book itself, I adored it all. The plot, character development, side character appearances, literally everything! Anthony was the perfect book boyfriend and he would do anything for Shoua. She would also do anything for him - even fake date him despite crushing on him...nothing can go wrong right... The whole fake dating trope was my fav! The reason they needed it and them pretending was so cute. I was swooning the entire time. Don't even get me started on the bar scene...I have 125 highlights in this book so I can literally take about it for HOURS.
I also loved how Cee wrote Shoua as a midsize fmc. I've read books where being midsize is the only personality trait of the main character and she usually lacks emotional depth because of it. Shoua, on the other hand, is written in such a complex way that being midsize isn't her only trait. She's confident and successful, but she does have her emotionally moments; however, I truly appreciated that Cee didn't make every emotional scene of hers revolve around her size. Some authors make that their character's main struggle and I find that it creates a stigma where midsize girls only have problems with their size, which isn't always the case.
Overall, this book was everything I needed it to be and more! The found family in this series is unmatched. I love how close all the characters are and I LOVE how Cee set up the next book...I know I said Anthony is my favorite, but I think Jonathon might take the cake. Remains to be seen haha ;)
"Baby, I want to build a house with you." I usually don't explain my quotes because I try to find one that sums up the book or the characters emotions throughout the book but man, when Anthony said this, I giggled and teared up a bit. I did not like how he talked about his 3 in one night stand but, the way he stepped up for my girl Shoua and always had me giggling. Anthony Hughes is Hubby material for sure.
Cee Yang’s No Summer Hotter Than You is like that perfect summer day—sunshine, laughter, and just a hint of chaos that keeps you on your toes. This delightful tale revolves around two childhood friends, Shoua and Anthony, after his mom lies to his aunt about his fake girlfriend and Anthony knowing only one girl which was Shoua, now they have to Fake date in order to keep up the act and to protect themselves from two somebodies! Sparks fly as she navigates her feelings for her best friend which has basically been an emotional anchor for her since her car accident and new adventures with a hint of white lies seeping through, while Anthony comes to terms with his emotions. This book proves that romances are best tested sometimes, you never know what could come of it.
From awkward first dates to awkward family drama and revolutions (seriously, who knew everyone was secretly routing for them especially after Julie and Andy?), Yang’s writing pulls you in with its warmth and wit. There’s a scene involving Anthony that kept me giggling man, everytime he called her baby—watch out for those sneaky giggle moments. The characters are incredibly relatable, each bringing their quirks and charm to the table. You’ll find yourself rooting for Anthony as he tries to figure out how to express his feelings without turning into a complete puddle of nerves. And let’s be honest, who hasn’t been there?
If you’re looking for a lighthearted read that will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside (and maybe craving a popsicle), No Summer Hotter Than You is your go-to. Grab a copy, find a sunny spot, and prepare to fall in love all over again! ✨THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ARC OPPORTUNITY✨
I was giving this beautiful opportunity to do an ARC review for this book by Cee Yang. Outstanding I enjoy reading this book from start to finish🥳 5⭐️instantly, along this being the second book in the series my ratings only grew higher than the previous book which was written so well done. I enjoy the journey between the Characters!! and the storyline. Book 2— (No Summer Hotter Than You) Is a must read especially it begin written in few of my favorite book tropes— Fake dating. Friends to lovers. She falls first he falls harder. Found family. She falls first he falls harder is always going to hit top notch! Cee Yang did that🩷Alongside creating my new favorite book couple and FMC & MMC, Shoua is my ⭐️Girl I love her personality and driven ways in within herself and compassion and how strong she is and most importantly the love she gives out to one another and to especially to my favorite loving golden retriever Anthony, he’s the best I had an amazing time reading about him/through his chapters and finally being able to get the chance to read about his crazy adventures along loving personality being slightly different from his twin brother (Andy) who you can read about in his lovely love story in the previous book. plus after reading/meeting Anthony’s funny character in— (Some Things Never Change) I knew I would love him and I most certainly did just by being hooked since chapter 1 & 2 with Anthony’s crazy sense of humor, and beautifully done crafted-written character Shoua❤️☺️ by Cee Yang. NSHTY The plot was chef kisses💋⭐️She’s a Ten but…. She has a crush on her best friend, who’s also her next door neighbor. He’s a Ten but… He’s the clingiest Golden retriever fake boyfriend you’ll ever have. Oh and almost forgot- He’s a ten but he will be your next book boyfriend=💯 Pre-order No Summer Hotter Than You by Cee Yang today so you can enjoy this book as much as I did🩷 Coming September 15th🤩
I received an advanced copy and these are my thoughts:
> Shoua and Anthony are best friends and neighbours. To save himself and Shoua from a meddling family friend, Anthony suggests they fake date to keep unwanted suitors away. Easier said than done, as Anthony and Shoua navigate their fake romantic relationship as convincingly as they can, real feelings start to surface. Will this brilliant plan blow up in their faces and ruin their friendship? Or will they find happy ever after? <
I really enjoyed this book! It was so interesting to see how Shoua and Anthony’s relationship evolved. As friends, they were very caring and supportive of each other but as “boyfriend and girlfriend”, at first, they were rather awkward with one another. This quickly changed and they proved to have great chemistry. They just fit together like they were mean to be and the spice was spicin’!! There was no holding back. 3/5🌶️
I liked how Anthony stood up for Shoua and didn’t stand for anyone mistreating her. I also liked how Shoua ultimately, stood up for herself, finding strength in Anthony’s support but also in herself.
I loved the closeness of the group of friends/siblings/cousins with Julie, Andy and Jonathan.
I also enjoyed reading about characters with different ethnic and cultural backgrounds (American Asian Hmong and mixed American white and Asian Hmong - I think I got that right, but please correct me if I’m wrong). And also how the pressures of cultural and social expectations played a role in the characters’ lives and choices.
Though it’s quite slow burn in the beginning, I felt the pace conveyed very well the scorching heat of the summer - where everything feels sticky and like the days are ongoing.
If you like friends to lovers, fake dating, ethnic diversity and meddling family members and family friends, you will probably enjoy this book!
Thank you to Cee Yang for my first ARC. Truly was an absolute joy to read this book.
“That wasn’t a kiss. Give it more umph and actually put your lips on me.” -Anthony Hughes
Kilig (Tagalog): Feeling romantic excitement.
Kilig is the best way I could describe the way I feel about Anthony and Shuoa. I usually don’t read fake dating tropes because they end up being too corny or cliche, but my kilig feels were too strong. I love that Anthony was Shuoa’s anchor throughout her traumas with her mom. Fortunately, I don’t have the same family dynamic that Shuoa has, but coming from Southeast Asian households, I feel her pain and helplessness. And whenever Anthony was there to ground her, it reminds me of the times my fiance was my own emotional support during my worst breakdowns.
Their romantic buildup wasn’t rushed at all and I’m glad it didn’t take too long for Anthony to confess his feelings to Shuoa. Anthony was a golden retriever boyfriend before he even knew it and the way he is so protective of her and cares for her as a best friend just shows how strong the foundation of their relationship is. They are so hot for each other it got my brown skin blushing red. I was not expecting how hot their spicy scenes were and there are A LOT. Although some of their dialogue was corny and borderline cringey, all is forgiven because even the characters didn’t take those lines too seriously.
I honestly wasn’t expecting all the layers of drama, but I felt fear, anxiety, anger, annoyance, alongside even more moments of joy reading this. Stories with a tied up conclusion plays a part in how well I judge the writing of the book and Yang was able to include so many complex elements that ended up blending into a satisfying ending that wasn’t rushed.
P.S. It’s on sight for Aunt Sue, Kelvin, Shuoa’s mom and brothers.
Ahhhhh stop! This book was so damn cute! It's really hard, in my opinion, to do a rom-com series without the books feeling exactly the same, or far too similar. And in this one, while you have that undercurrent of firneds-to-lovers, No Summer Hotter than You is very different from Some Things Never Change! And as a reader, that is very much appreciated. Both Shoua and Anthony are lovable characters that you root for in their personal/professional lives and also as a couple. Which is something new for me, too, because usually I'm very much like "Oh this person makes this person better because I hated them before" or "I mean, so-and-so was kind of meh before and now you add the main character and they're great!". It's rare for me to find a book where I've genuinely adored both main characters before they got together, like Some Things Never Change, let alone for it to happen again in book 2 while the characters are totally different people with different careers and perspectives? Mind. Blown. Did I mention this book is in Dual POV as well? Once again, Cee Yang does an effortless job of blending the Hmong culture into the book - explanations and definitions are given without making you feel like you're being given an explanation or definition. This is a really hard feat to accomplish so kudos to you, Cee Yang! As a learner, I love to explore different cultures, but it's always more exciting to me when an author can "trick" me into learning rather than me having to sit down and learn on my own. Long story short: Reading this series has been nothing short of a joyful blast for me to experience and enjoy, and I cannot wait to continue this series! P.S. The warning on the cover about the heat level? Believe it because did the spice get elevated in this book *fanning myself*
• this book was really good. • like - it had everything it needed to be a coming of age romance story with smut in it and while - • yes - sometimes the sex scenes felt like it was intruding on the content of the story - that just means it only added to the story - not taking anything away from it • I still know that as the eldest daughter we are subjected to so many pressures by our parents (especially if they’re immigrants and or first generation *see article about parental pressures being similar*) • i felt so proud of shoua for growing into her skin and finally doing what she’s been wanting to do for so long • her younger brother can go suck a dick. • as an older sister im glad the younger sibling didn’t go through similar treatment BUT THAT DOESNT EXCUSE HIS ASS • Anywho • I love that you could see the growth in both Anthony and Shoua and how their relationship developed in such a natural and realistic way • they’re both such cuties • *me whenever Anthony and Andy were in the same scene* twin powers activate! lol i’m hilarious. • this book for sure got better as you went on • CEE YANG SLAYED THIS
——
*thoughts from 9/9/24*
💓🌼thoughts so far! 🌼💓 • literally adorable • this arc is making me comment on every other page on my kindle that it’s lagging when I do • as a daughter of a first gen it helps me understand what my mom went through • as an oldest daughter, i relate to shoua sm when it comes to expectation from your parents (put on by them and by herself) • im obsessed with this emotionally • complex characters??? uh yuh-huh • ANTHONY IS FUCKING BLIND AND IM JUST TAKING MY HANDS TO THE SCREEN AND JUST BEING LIKE *pushes their faces together making kissing noises* JUST KISS • Anywho • ya’ll should read this when it comes out on sept. 15 2024
I had lots of fun reading this book. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations in some aspects. The writing felt a little bland and mediocre at times. Also, the sex scenes seemed haphazardly placed, and they were a bit uncomfortable for me to read. I understand this is probably just a me problem and others may love the spicy scenes. I just think that it wasn't for me. I didn't like Shoua throughout the first half of the book. I think she was too much like me in the aspects that I hate about myself. Shoua did grow on me though, and I ended up loving her in the end. I did really enjoy the PTSD and anxiety attack representation. Cee Yang did a wonderful job explaining how it feels to experience an anxiety attack, and it's part of the reason I really started to adore Shoua. Anthony was the absolute BEST! He was always there for Shoua whenever she needed him. He was such an energetic and kind character, I just loved him so much. The affirmation scene between Shoua and Anthony was EVERYTHING! They are so cute and I wish I had an Anthony in my life. Also, getting to see more Julie and Andy was one of my favorite parts of this book! Each character in this book has depth, even characters like Sai and Evelyn. It's clear they're antagonists, but they end up being good people in the end. Also, the representation for toxic parents was very well done. I felt so bad for Shoua because of her awful mom and seeing everyone go along with her to avoid her wrath was heartbreaking. Overall, I did really like this book but it fell short in some aspects. I'm excited to see what Cee Yang puts out next!! I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

👙Book Review 👙 No summer hotter than you by Cee Yang This was my first book by Cee Yang & she did not disappoint. This book was seriously HOT in not only spice but in all amazing aspects of a loving and supportive relationship. Shoua & Anthony’s relationship even before their scheme began, you could tell how much love was already present in their relationship with acts of kindness that was shown, especially by Anthony. 😅 I felt it humorous and a classic guy that he was head over heels and he didn’t even realize it, yet. 🤣 I felt that I really connected with Shoua with similar trauma backgrounds but also being a loving and supportive friend. I also loved how Anthony reminded me lot of how my husband with providing support when my anxiety acts up and allowing myself to know that it is okay to feel how I feel.
Now to the stuff that matters, this book is faking dating, found family, friends to lovers, she falls first but he falls faster. 🤩 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
This is the perfect book to read if you are still wanting one more book of summer before the season changes.
Now onto Some things never change & hoping to hear Jonathan’s story in the future. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Thank you for allowing me to be an ARC for this beautifully written story. I am so very honored.
I was very much looking forward to this one. For that little moment in Andy and Julie’s book and now it’s finally here! ✨
I loved the fact that although both books deal with the friends to lovers trope this one still managed to be different from book one. 😄
You gotta love the fake dating in a friends to lovers. Because the ANGST! But the little twist to it was really fun! It was a little fake dating inception. 🤣
Anthony is a even more of a total SINnamon than I expected him to be that boy I’d shameless!🤣 I really loved his friendship with Shoua!
Speaking of Shoua, I loved her so much! She must be protected at all costs. She was so kind and absolutely lovely. 🫶🏻
The progression of Anthony and Shoua’s relationship was really great to see. I liked that a lot of of what we usually expect from this trope was elevated to a degree by the fact that the leads don’t take the usual approach to things. ❤️
I said it about the first book it gives off kdrama vibes and this one continues to have that type of story telling structure. I really liked the way the serious topics were handled and how realistic they were. 😊
It’s definitely spicier than the book one, which will appeal to a lot of people. 🌶️
Overall this is definitely a fun summer read! A total get me out of that book slump book!✨
Thank-you @theceeyang for the chance to review this ARC!
“It’s easy to forget you can swim, Shoua,” I said softly. I glanced down at the abyss beneath us. “Especially if the only thing you can see is the darkness.”
Book two is even BETTER than the first book— and I loved the first one!
Get you a man who makes coffees for you every morning… SPECIALIZED COFFEES. Anthony is the MMC, and of course my favorite twin! He made sure Shoua always knew her worth and was there for her throughout everything. He was charming and always knew how to cheer Shoua up. He had the calming and gentle presence outside of the bedroom—but in he def knew how to be demanding and in charge. It was beautiful to see how their love story played out.
Shoua, the FMC has the worst family in this series (minus the dad but like he could step up and defend her more), and is constantly getting berated and told how horrible she is and how she looks. I loved how she gained confidence throughout the book. Her growth and her showing that she should put herself first was inspiring.
I loved how this book was spicier than the first! And how the author addressed serious topics of how families can be. I think this is the perfect book to end summer with!
Read if you LOVE: 🥀 close proximity 🥀 fake dating 🥀 friends to lovers 🥀 spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Thank you Cee Yang and her team for choosing me to arc read this! It was beautiful and I loved experiencing Shoua and Anthony’s love for each other.
Thank you, Cee Yang, for the e-arc of No Summer Hotter Than You. I am leaving this review voluntarily, and all opinions are my own.
NSHTY is my first book by Cee, and certainly not the last! I read out of order and will have to go back and read the first book in this series - I can't wait to read about Andy & Julie's love story.
I will start off with this - I picked this book up because Cee is the first Hmong American (that I've come across) to write a romance novel. I was so so excited to see how she'd blend the Hmong culture into her novel (being Hmong American myself).
NSHTY came with all the correct content warnings, along with a d!cktionary - for those of you who don't read open door spice. Because there was some spiceeeee 🔥🔥
You'd enjoy this book if you like... -BIPOC romance -Forced Proximity -Fake Dating -Best Friends to Lovers
I loved that Cee added some of the issues that Hmong children deal with... I too am a victim of my own mother's harsh words (no hate here, just something I laugh about, honestly). I also love the very real depiction of how upset some Hmong parents can be when you don't follow the path they want for you.
This book was so cute and sweet, I read it all in ONE sitting. I really loved the shift from friends to lovers, Anthony was just so so sweet after that - you could really tell he was in love with her.
Tropes: 💐 Dual POV 💐 Fake Dating 💐 Friends to Lovers 💐 Open Door Spice 💐 Golden Retriever MMC
Watching these two best friends and neighbors fall in love throughout this story was incredible. I loved how protective Anthony always was over Shoua and how he kept up on his promise that he would always be there for her. Shoua is an amazing character, she is so strong and always manages to be so kind even in the face of those who are awful to her. Her body positivity is truly inspiring and I found myself wishing I could be more like her! The spice was amazing and so well written, these two definitely have great bed chem. Every character in this book was so entertaining, despite how aggravating a few of them were. This is truly the pertect book to wrap up summer with!
"I'll be honest. I can't pinpoint exactly when I fell in love with her." I grinned as Shoua shifted anxiously in my arms. "But l've always known my world would forever tip out off its axis if something happened to her. I would gladly rip through Heaven just to find Shoua and bring her back because I wouldn't be able to live without her. If by losing her, I am forever destroyed, then by being able to share this life with her, I am forever whole and hers."
Thank you to Cee Yang and the publisher for my first ever ARC! I truly loved this and I can't wait for the third story in this series!

such a good book!! SO so very grateful I was given an e-ARC! Cee Yang does an amazing job at building the plot and writing so you feel immersed in this book. I greatly enjoyed the incorporation of the Hmong culture and felt like it was really well executed and served as a great insight! I felt like there was a plot line that wasn’t needed, but didn’t chip too much away. still absolutely loved it and recommend if you want a steamy novel! the spice was SPICING in this book, and I really appreciate that we were 1) told when the spicy chapters were so we don’t have to read it if that’s not our thing and 2) also told that we don’t need to read the spice to still enjoy the story. I just feel like that makes it so much more versatile and can reach a larger audience. this book also discussed serious issues, like toxic familial relationships and anxiety. I love how more authors are including relevant topics and having their characters grow more than just getting in a relationship and that be in. I really love how Anthony and Shoua want each other to grow in themselves. speaking of Anthony…the man that you are oh. my. word. so thoughtful, kind, considerate, empathetic, all the things. a total 10/10 catch. definitely an amazing mmc and book boyfriend.
