Kit , Mary, and Aunt Agatha, just returned from month long trip to US , are immediately thrust into a murder investigation! This involves secret service, gangs, and religious personnel. The investigation finds murders starting 13 years prior and the total known is 13! Pace is fast, plot ingenious, characters many and varied, and story is exciting! Correct order of reading for this series is suggested for greatest appreciation and enjoyment! Still editing problems in proofreading, gramnar, and especially punctuation!
The Toffs were okay! The Police no better than usual. The Politicians like those before them, those now and most probably those of the future. The murder's reprehensible. The wrong side of the tracks, low life's were THE BEST, and worth the reading! And the reason for 5 Stars!
But goodness do those women annoy me! Lord Kit Aston should tell them absolutely nothing and leave them smouldering in their pettiness. They make me ashamed to be a woman. If I behaved as they do I should expect any man in my life to tell me to grow up and actually apply the brains I so loudly shout about!
Fascinating story. A bit violent for me. But the times were quite violent. Have to say that I was worried about Aunt Agatha. Looking forward to the last book of the series.
I guess this was written either just before or after the Angela Aston 2nd book. At any rate if you read that then you know who did it in advance. Some comedy lines but the plot was a bit too convoluted
The suspense builds when characters who do not have plot immunity are imperiled. Murray does a good job of creating characters whom we come to care about by the end. No spoiler here, just read this one and enjoy.
Interesting look at the English upper class. Both the good and the bad are represented in a battle to stop evil. Interesting also includes the criminal class and police working in concert.
I loved the plot, throw in interesting characters and you have a great read. It is well written and the author did a superb job of making The characters come to life. the characters real.
Once again Murray has successfully woven real historic people into an entertaining work of fiction.Keep them coming and looking forward to the next series.
It's been a while since I read the previous books so I had to take a moment to remember the characters, but i did enjoy the book and look forward to the next one.
September 1920. Over the last 20 years over a dozen young females have been murdered. The killings kept quiet so not to rouse the people, and of the suspicion who is involved. Inspector Jellicoe with Lord Kit and his family investigate. An entertaining historical mystery
Kit said ”…There is a common enemy. A dangerous, malicious and murderous enemy… We have a number of murders of young women, committed by people from the highest levels in society, covered up by those same strata and a two-decade old police investigation that has made little progress.”
