Social worker Quinn Keller sees the best in people...and the worst. When she rescues a prominent businessman's battered wife, Quinn is targeted by the woman's violent husband. Her only option is to place her safety in the hands of Ranger Jace Hyland--tattooed, scarred, incredibly hot...and the brother of Quinn's deceased fiance. An entirely different kind of dangerous!
Quinn is the woman Jace has always wanted--and she's strictly hands-off. But keeping her safe means taking her to his small apartment...and his bed. So for one unforgettable night, Jace will give in to the temptation he can no longer resist. One night of forbidden hunger. One night he prays will be enough to satisfy a lifetime of longing....

I really enjoyed this book.
I really liked both main characters and I thought it was very honest and real how their feelings towards each other were written. The guilt, the longing etc.
Pacing was really good for me. According to Goodreads it is 224 pages, but I started reading, got dragged into it so much, looked up and was 80% through the book and had forgotten to put the Roast in for Easter Sunday!! (so we are having that today)
Quite frankly a book that makes me forget I need to you know, cook and feed my family has to be good!
However, it occasionally jumped to the next day or a few hours later, when I expected it not too. Such as when his father was talking to him and said that his mother would be talking to Quinn, I expected to go to that conversation, between Quinn and the mother, but it just sort of jumped ahead to the next day or something. And that happened a couple of times at least, and was quite jarring.
The added plot line of the husband of the woman she was helping, given the nature of her job etc, did not feel too far fetched, as can sometimes happen when you add that sort of character into a book, it fit and was used in a way to move their relationship forward.
All in a good makes me forget I need to cook for my family 4 stars! This was a first read by this author and I would love to read more.
I read this cute little book in one sitting. When Quinn's life is threatened by the husband of one of her clients, her almost brother-in-law Jace steps in to protect her. These two have tried for the past two years to ignore the heat that simmers between them. Jace does not pursue Quinn because he feels responsible for his brother's death. Quinn hides her attraction to Jace because she believes he is not interested in her. When they are forced to share the same quarters they can no longer ignore the attraction between them.
Both Jace and Quinn are dealing with pain and scars from their past experiences. Quinn was a really down to earth, strong likable heroine. She had a big heart and really just wanted to help those around her. Jace was loyal and protective, he was willing to do whatever it takes to keep those around him safe. When he is unable to save his brother from dying and leaving his fiance behind and alone, Jace blames himself and vows that he would take care of Quinn. I loved the slow build up between these two, as much as they tried to stop it they just couldn't resist each other. This was a quick, steamy enjoyable read.

For some reason I always connect with this author's books and find a depth in them which is usually lacking in the Blaze line. Both the hero/heroine lost someone they loved and have been ignoring their burgeoning feelings for each other. I loved their journey to finding love and happiness.
Quite well written, I have come to the conclusion that this genre of fiction is not for me anymore. Used to lap it up but now seems a bit lightweight ( and there is nothing wrong with that). Quinn a social worker has recently lost her fiance, but ends up growing very close to his brother. In the meantime the husband of one of her clients a, DV client, comes after Quinn to find out where she has hidden his wife. Nothing too taxing.
Sometimes you really can judge a book by the cover. I've done it and won. Sometimes, like this one, a hot tattooed guy coupled with an intriguing synopsis proves, once again, you shouldn't.
The Good, The Bad, And Everything Else: I rarely read Harlequin Blaze imprints. Mostly because I find many of them tend to have more sex and less character development and sometimes even less fully developed plots. In this case I should have stuck with my original thought pattern and skipped this one but first let's discuss the characters.
Quinn is a social worker and Jace is an MMA fighter and ex-Army Ranger. Honestly the set up couldn't have been better for me to really love these characters. Unfortunately, they are so consumed by guilt over the loss of Quinn's fiancé who happens to also be Jace's brother. The rehashing over and over about Jace taking on added responsibilities that aren't his cross to bear gets tedious. Also, Quinn's nonchalance attitude over an abusive man's threats to her, directly contradicted her characterization of a strong social worker who gives victims second chances at life.
The plot is overshadowed by the sex within the book mostly because the synopsis clearly defines the book as a romantic suspense which is what I expected. The really great beginning fizzled and really made me scratch my head a bit as the suspenseful part failed to be brought up again until the 30% mark. At that point Jace and Quinn decided she'd be safer at Jace's apartment. This seemed a clunky way to get them to "have" to share a bedroom/bed as I really felt Jace, with his Ranger background, should have been able to protect Quinn in her own home without having to relocate to his apartment. Also, on a side note, if a crazy stalker man casually walks into your home to threaten you just to prove he can do as he likes the right response would be shout out to the hot Army Ranger just outside. You know...the one who was there to protect you??? Of course hot Army Ranger guy really couldn't protect Quinn as the bad guy literally kidnapped her in front of him. Um....I've never read a book with a special ops hero (either currently enlisted or retired) who wasn't capable of taking down a bully who only seems to be able to beat on women. What a rip off. I hope he never got tattooed....you know the Ranger brotherhood ones all special ops men tend to have....if he did he'd have to get it removed because he's a disgrace.
Ok I hated the characters. I equally hated the plot...because...what plot? The Quinn and Jace have sex plot? Since this was the only plot that seemed to have enough pages dedicated to it I have to assume this was the main point of the book. If you follow any of my reviews you should know I'm not all about sex just for the sake of it in my romances. Sex does not equal love no matter what some authors want you to believe. Kira Sinclair did not fall completely into this negative trope but since the footwork of the Quinn/Jace I love you parts happened off the page...we don't necessarily see them fall in love. It's just assumed with their history they've always kind of been there even though at the beginning of the book they admit to sharing semi-regular awkward meals together to keep up appearances of the brother and sister-in-law act. Highlight on the awkward part.
In a Nutshell: What a stink-a-roo for me. I am not sure I'll pick up another Sinclair book even though some reviewers claim there are better books out there by her. I would stick a label on this book to my friends "Read at Your Own Risk" but may ask them to try it out just as an experiment of sorts. I want to know if I'm all alone in my dislike/hatred. Christina Out.
I know this was just an e-book and all due respect to the author, but this was not a well written book. I have read better fan fiction to be honest, and with better smut. I felt nothing for the characters and honestly only pushed through so I could write a review. There is nothing memorable about this book or the characters. It is trite and one dimensional.
I don't go in to these books with high expectations. I honestly like the mental gymnastics authors will go through to not use the proper names for genitalia, but even that was sub par.
This woman has not only lost her parents but also her fiancé. She is a person that wants to help other people with whatever crisis they may be going through. The one woman she is protecting may come with consequences but no matter what she will protect her however she can.
I immediately knew that Quinn Keller and Jace Hyland were attracted to each other. Only that he felt guilty for the way that he felt for her. She was together with brother and there was no way that he was going to get close to her. Her parents had passed away and now Michael was gone so all she did was work and help other people. She didn’t think about herself but she did know one thing she was attracted to Jace Hyland, from the moment that she saw him at Michael and Jace’s parents home. Jace felt the same way so he stayed away but when his brother passed he promised Michael that he would protect Quinn so when he finds out that a husband of a woman that she is protecting threatens her he knows that he needs to do something. She needs to take it seriously because when she least expects it he was going to strike. He started with invading her home but that is just the beginning.
Testing the Limits is a fast paced read that I enjoyed. The characters are well written and the emotions that the characters are going through are felt in the author’s writing. The story could have had more background to both of the characters. It could have given a little more insight into Jace’s past and also into Quinn’s relationship with Michael. The sex scenes were hot and tastefully written.
I recommend this book to readers. I think it’s an easy read and captivating. I know that I will be looking to see what other books Ms. Sinclair has published.

So, this story has been told again and again. The hero should stay away from his brother’s girlfriend, even though the brother has been dead for 2 years. And the brother feels guilty because the brother died. Really? He actually had suicidal thoughts because his brother died? Something he had nothing to do with. He gave up his Ranger career to give his brother a kidney then took up MMA fighting? He gave up his suicidal thoughts because he didn’t want his parents to lose two sons. Wow! How thoughtful of him. His guilt lasted until the very end of the book, which I thought was ridiculous.
One of the good things about this book was that Quinn wasn’t afraid of that dirt-bag Warren. AND the sexual tension between Jace and Quinn was almost palpable. I don’t care if there’s sex in the book as long as there’s sexual tension. I hate, hate, hate when there are no feeling of passion on either of their parts then somewhere between 50% and 100% of the book there’s explicit sex. HUH? WTH kind of sex is that? Neither of them shows any kind of interest in each other then they decide to screw? Yuck!
Anyway, the story about Warren (and the tension) made this a decent read. However, there’s not much chance of me reading ANY other Desire book in the future. They are ALL sooo overpriced it’s just ridiculous. Which is kind of stupid when some of them are years old and yet there’s only 6 or 8 or 10 reviews. I don’t know who’s pricing these books but they are idiots. Take this book for example, it’s been out since 6/1/14 and it only has 7 reviews. AND 4 of those were from people the book was given to for an “honest” review. Seriously, does that make sense to anyone? I guess they’d rather sell a few books for $3.99 than maybe selling 100 books for 99¢. Oh, well, that’s just my opinion, for what it’s worth.
This was the first book I read written by Kira Sinclair and I have to say I loved it, so it probably won’t be the last.
First of all, let me just say that, in general, I’m not a fan of the angle of lust or deep feelings for the dead boyfriend/fiancée/husband’s brother. I usually don’t read this books because I always feel it’s very difficult for an author to pull this off. But Kira Sinclair totally did it! So, I’m happy I let my curiosity get the best of me and I can say that the cover played a big part in this (another first!).
The characters were strong and the story was captivating, I couldn’t put my kobo e-reader down after starting it. Jace’s guilty feelings were somewhat understandable but, when the author discloses how his brother died, his intense struggle made perfect sense. The fact that Quinn was being targeted for, basically, helping a woman who had an abusive husband, also felt realistic as well as all the details regarding her job.
There are two reasons why I’m not giving this book 5 stars: 1) the story jumped forward in a few moments that could probably benefit the story if better explored; 2) Quinn’s lack of common sense when she was threatened, I mean the guy was rich, well connected, suspected of being involved in shady businesses and she thought he was harmless? Her reaction just didn’t seem very realistic.
I totally recommend this book to all the readers that love a HEA. I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review .
It was ok, I was reading this one for the scarred, tattooed hero, he sounded delish… and he was, all protective and sexy… Yum! He’s probably why I’m giving this book a decent rating.. the rest of the story was just ok. I liked Quinn’s passion for her job but it kind of got in the way of the romance a bit for me. Quinn and Jace have known each other for years; in fact, Jace is the brother of her passed fiancé. Jace has always had a thing for Quinn but his brother met her first and while he was alive they were so obviously in love. Now he’s been passed for two years (I think the length of time is the only reason I wasn’t disturbed by the whole brother’s thing) and Jace is still taking care of Quinn, doing small things like making sure her lawn is mowed, fixing things, etc… Now Quinn needs more than that, she needs his protection from one of her client’s abusive husband. For me Quinn seemed to have more passion for her job than she did for Jace. I felt it on her end, maybe because he’s been carrying a torch for so long but hers isn’t as on the surface. In the end it was an ok book with a sexy hero and not much else.
Two people struggling with the guilt of betraying the memory of Michael, Jace’s deceased brother and Quinn’s fiancé, while admitting their feelings for each other.
The story was mostly centered on Jace and Quinn exploring their feelings for each other and dealing with the guilt of those feelings. I would have liked to have seen more of the suspense part of the story. There are only a few scenes where Quinn is threatened and we don’t get to see the depth of the madness or the showcasing of resources that the prominent businessman alluded to in the story.
I felt the story could have used more dialogue instead of the amount of page time that the characters internalized their feelings. I understand that backstory was needed for the psychology of the characters but I always seem to lose interest in a story when there is more internalization than dialogue.
Overall, the story was well-written and the love scenes were pretty steamy and I enjoyed the read.
***I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***
The story between Jace and Quinn was an easy read. I at time found my self giggling and at other times rolling my eyes at the banter between them. They fought so hard to respect the memory of Michael I felt they struggled to the very end. I do however felt that the characters were hard to get behind. I LOVED the storyline and the way the story played out. I did however find that the characters contained almost every identifiable character trait in the recent books. Such as Jace is in the army and into MMA fighting? Quinn has lost her family and her fiancé… I felt there were so many “trendy” details to each they lost some realism to me and almost made me struggle to stay with the story. I believe if the author would have stuck more to the story line without throwing in all of the little details that have made great book boyfriends and Heroines I would have appreciated the story more. All in all this was an easy good read with an HEA.

I don't know what happened!!! Compared to Kira Sinclair's previous books this flopped something good! The story jumped around as the backstory was attempting to be told which left the reader constantly flipping backwards and forwards to work out what the hell was going on. The angst fell massively short. There was a build up but then nothing came of it in my opinion. The repetitiveness was plain annoying...we got it, he took on responsibilities that weren't necessarily his, there was no need for this line to constantly be smashed in our faces!!! All in all I found the story to be very anticlimactic and not like Kira's previous books at all. I'm a fan of her writing so I hope she pulls it out of her hat for her next one.
The story seemed to be jumping around a little as the author was trying to fill in the backstory. Like they were trying to build the angst but it just wasn't happening for me. They're both like no no no then all of a sudden BAM... The part that left me hanging the most was the dinner at his parents, when his dad said something to him in the garage about approving of their relationship then you expect the story to take you back into the house when she's talking to his mom and that never happens... then quite a bit later she thinks about the conversation with the mom but it was very anticlimactic at that point...
Very repetitive. We know "he takes responsibility onto his shoulders – responsibility that wasn't necessarily his to carry."
I did enjoy the way the story was wrapped up and the bad guy gets his in the end and our couple get their HEA but that what I always love and have come to expect from a Blaze!!
This review pertains to Testing the Limits, by Kara Sinclair. Thanks to Harlequin and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review! I really enjoyed this book! It was a quick sexy read with strong characters and a fresh story. It did seem to jump around a bit, but all in all it was a great story which I highly recommend to romance readers!
"In this installment of the Uniformly Hot! series, Sinclair has penned a Lifetime movie-style tale with everything from a fiancé lost to tragic illness, a hot military hunk and an abused woman and the dangerous husband trying to find her. With a dense plot and ample tension on all fronts, this book lives up to the imprint’s moniker (RT Book Reviews)". 4 1/2 stars
Surprisingly good story for a Blaze book. Widow is a social worker threatened by the husband of a client. Brother-in-law, who's has been in love with her forever but is afraid to tell her as he blames himself for brothers death. He volunteers to protect her, but denies his feelings, which of course finally come out. Good depiction of grief. Also good depiction of a scared, abused wife.
Too much angst at times - I have been in a similar job to her and her nonchalance about a possible violent threat does not fly with me. Also when the bad guy is confronting her in her house and the hero has just left, why would she just not scream for help???? I could not get into the characters - abandonned book about half way...
4 Stars – Testing the Limits is an adult contemporary/military romance by Kira Sinclair, and part of the Harlequin Blaze Uniformly Hot! series. The Few. The Proud. The Sexy as Hell!
I wish I could write like Kira Sinclair. I just love the way she has with words. Her books make me feel as though I'm reading a love story full of magic and passion. I feel everything her characters feel. By the end of the book, I loved Quinn and Jace as much as the author did.
