It's EXACTLY what you would think a picture book written by Danielle Steel starring her own long-haired teacup Chihuahua with mucho sparkle on the cover would be like.
I picked up this book thinking I'd read a trashy book about some tart named Pretty Minnie who has a thing for pink glittery shoes while she sleeps her way to the top of the Paris elite circles.
Little did I know it was about a dog who has a thing for Paris Fashion Week.
Sadly, the glitter stuck to my hand and I tripped which resulted in the flecks of sparkly craft stuff to get in my eye and caused me to go to the ER.
Thank you Danielle Steele for subjecting me to your manipulative ways of reading this garbage while I had my eye washed out from the glitter bomb you planted in your so called children's book.
I had been super curious to read this book as it centers around two things I love - Paris and Chihuahuas. It's a cute book about a girl who lives in Paris named Françoise and her pampered Chihuahua, Minnie. However, this book lacks much of a story beyond how much Françoise and Minnie mean to each other and the writing is lacking a bit. This book will appeal though to children who love frills, fashion, pink, and little dogs. Kristi Valiant's illustrations are gorgeous with lots of dresses (Françoise's mother is a fashion designer) and have many recognizable scenes of Paris. I'd give it 2.5/5.
I downloaded this little Paris picture book on a whim before I left, and I was oh-so-glad I did. On my trip we had two young children with us, ages 6 and 3, and they begged for me to read to them (oh, be still my heart). I read this beautiful illustrated story of a little Chihuahua in Paris to them, and then discovered that I could download other books from my library at home. We spent many happy hours reading picture books in Paris.
Pretty Minnie In Paris was adorable. The story was delightful and the illustrations were fabulous. The detail in the illustrations is unbelievable. I hope that there are more Minnie books to follow.
Very cute. Don't let the author cloud your judgement on this one. I thought it was a well written and engaging Children's book. Especially cute for girls and girls who love small fluffy animals.
Beautiful book. This is a really nice story of a teacup Chihuahua that travels with a girl and her mom to a fashion show and gets lost. Highly recommended for girls in Grades K-3.
Pretty Minnie is a fuzzy chihuahua who lives with a girl. She has a pretty normal life. Eventually, she gets lost at a fashion show, but she is found again shortly after.
This book has adorable illustrations and a delightful sense of style. The story is boring, however.
Danielle Steel has entered the world of children's book publishing with PRETTY MINNIE IN PARIS. Now, for the people that know me, you know I love my little Chihuahua so I love that Danielle based this story on her own little dog. Unfortunately, my love of Chihuahuas didn't make me enjoy the story very much. The illustrations are cute, but the story itself isn't anything to write home about. There isn't enough to grab the reader and make them care about the characters very much. Basically, it's just blah.
Pretty Minnie lives with her young mistress in fashionable Paris. Of course there are fashions galore shown throughout the book; everyone, even Minnie herself, is dressed with style. Being a tiny dog she gets weighed down by some of her clothing and is easily overwhelmed in situations with lots of noise. She is a sweet and lovable little dog. Girls will be impressed with the illustrations showing all the pretty clothes.
Danielle Steel's foray into the Children's Lit genre is welcome. WIth her experience, she has written a very sensitive yet interesting story about a little girl and her Chihuaha. The story is set in Paris and Steel uses this fact to tell us a lot about the Paris scene. There is also some excitement when Minnie wanders off. WIll she be found? Read and find out; it's well worth it. Also just in time to welcome "Pretty Minnie in Hollywood."
I only picked this up because it is a children's book written by Danielle Steel. The book isn't bad, but it isn't great either. The text is in the lower end of neutral and the illustrations are in the upper end of neutral. I can only see myself suggesting the book to a child already enamored with fashion, glitter and/or small dogs, or to an adult as a bit of a novelty.
The child version of myself would love this book. The adult version of myself just really likes the illustrations. However, there are some opportunities for education with the French names, locations, and the fact that fashion is a big part of French culture.
Picture book for grades PK-2. It is a cute story, especially aimed at pet-lovers and fashionistas. My daughter in first grade thought the teacup Chihuahua was precious and she really enjoyed to book. The artwork made by Kristi Valiant is wonderful.
OMG! This book is horrible. It screams of everything you don't want your daughter too be. It's uninspired and honestly just disturbing that Danielle Steel even wrote a picture book.
What an adorable book! This book would be wonderful for a girly-girl who loves Paris and pretty things! My daughter would have loved this book when she was little. I loved the illustrations. So cute!
