On the night of her transition, Harper Shen is cruelly rejected and banished by her alpha, by her mate. Mateo Fox doesn’t want her, and he no longer wants her in his pack. For seven years, Harper has had no choice but to live with that rejection. She is part of a new pack now, and she has finally made a life for herself, and she is trying to forget the man who ruined her life.
Mateo was not going to mate with a young girl. Harper was too innocent and the pack would have eaten her alive. For the last seven years, he’d been visiting her new pack without her knowing, just so he could be closer, inhale her scent, and allow his wolf to know some semblance of peace.
This visit is different. On the way to Harper’s new pack, he picks up a scent and follows it to a human bar. That's where he sees his mate for the first time in seven years. The smell of her, the beauty—she is not the young girl he rejected, but a woman.
Harper will not forgive. She will not give in to Mateo. He broke her heart, crushed her spirit, and now she has finally been able to make a life for herself. But she may not have a choice. The full moon is approaching and this is the first time she will be close to her real mate, and she has no idea what their wolves are going to do. She doesn’t know if she is going to be able to stop it.
Will she give into the mating? Will Mateo finally win her trust? Or are they doomed to fail?
Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound. She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.
There was a reason I avoided this book for so long. Sams rejection/grovel books aren’t the best. The best friend is manipulative as fuck and annoying and the ML never really ever gave af about the FL. Literally everything he did to “win her back” was her friend telling him what to do behind the FL back. The ML didn’t even ask the best friend for advice, the best friend came out and OFFERED IT. She was malnourished, depressed, hasn’t talked to her family in 7 years and was on her own at 18 all because he didn’t want her and it took him 3 weeks and a few conversations for her to forgive him? Greatttt. Also the best friend seeing her pain for 7 years and not giving af cuz she wanted to play Cupid was obnoxious. She was literally in every other scene. The best friend and the lack of interest from the ML made this a horrible grovel story. Only reason the ML even stayed around was cuz it felt like he was “too old” now and needed to settle down.
“He makes you laugh though!” Never ONCE did he make her laugh and i think the author realized this cuz right after the stupid joke is written to make her laugh 💀 holy shit 😭
I already dislike this book. I’m only 22% in but the MMC rejected the FMC due to HER age. He is forty and she is 18. In a normal book I can see this being an issue for some. In a PNR book where the shifter species ages slowly upon reaching maturity and can live for potentially hundreds of years this doesn’t make sense. Now the MMC has implied he believed that other female pack members might have challenged her and due to her age he feared for her but I pose the question then, couldn’t he have protected her? This MMC comes off as weak and at forty blindly immature. I’m really not interested in finishing this book as the plot conflict is weak and pointless. This author has to be burned out but I keep wasting my money and time on her books hoping I’m wrong. Smh.
UPDATE 10-12-2024
There is no connection between the main characters. The FMC tells the MMC to have sex with for the first time not because she wants him, forgives him, she is only barely attracted to him, still doesn’t like him much, but because the full moon will force her to have sex with him if she doesn’t do it on her own. That is the most saddest excuse to have a main couple end up together ever. Smh.
Also, there is more on page interaction between the MMC and the FMC’s best friend than between the main couple. I would be more interested in these two getting together (MMC + BFF) instead of the MMC and FMC.
Lastly, none of the characters are likable. The FMC is a sad sack. The MMC is typically selfish narcissist who only thinks about himself, which makes me wonder why he is even an alpha. Like why hasn’t someone challenged him as he is so deeply flawed? Smh. And the BFF is annoying, pushy and obnoxious. She be a great OW. This could easily play out like a cheating story with the way it’s being written so far.
This all I’ve been forcing myself to read so far. I’m at 62% and the sex is only just starting. The FMC is a “v” and the MMC has not clarified if he has been celibate in the seven years of his rejection of the FMC yet. I’m guessing he hasn’t been, which would make this book all the worse.
62% UPDATE
Correction: the MMC does now admit to having been celibate since before the rejection. Well it’s something I guess. Smh.
82% UPDATE
The full moon has come and gone and instead of the morning after confrontation, we get a lot of “I don’t know’s” from the FMC with the BFF. Again, no actual discussion between the main couple. At this point the FMC should mate her BFF. And the MMC should mate the same BFF. The BFF is the most dominant character in this book! Ugh.
FINAL UPDATE
The book ends at 88%. Shocker. The story ends in an HEA. Do I think an HEA fits this story? No. There is no connection between the main characters except in the two sex scenes in the book. On top of that they such dry boring sec scenes. Sam Crescent’s spiciness has tanked hard lately. Anyway, as I stated before there was more bonding of the BFF with everyone then there was between the MMC and FMC.
In the epilogue the FMC looks at her seven years of rejection as a gift that allowed her to grow as a person. None of that plays out on page. When the MMC finally starts feeling anything for the FMC when first saw her after so many years apart, the FMC was still a sad depressed barely alive person. Her BFF was keeping her afloat. While she had adjusted to her circumstances, she wasn’t thriving or happy about it. She was miserable but better at hiding than she was at the beginning. So really, nothing and no where near to claiming pride in herself for being rejected.
Alpha's Rejected Mate is Book 22 of the Alpha Shifter Collection. It's a short and steamy, enemies-to-lovers, OTT, age-gap, paranormal fated mate romance. Mateo is a hunky, arrogant, 40 year old alpha. Harper is his sweet, 18 year old mate that he humilates and rejects. He banished her, and she went to live with another pack. 7 years later, Mateo wants her back, realizing he's an idiot. I don't know. I love Sam's books but didn't like this one as much. I hated Mateo, loved Harper, and hurt for her, but never really felt the chemistry. We do end on a happy note, but it was just ok for me. 3.5☆s.

Harper Shen had only just turned eighteen, a child mate. Mateo Fox’s wolf wanted to claim her, but Mateo at forty, didn’t give in to his basic animal urges. On the night of her transition, Harper is cruelly rejected by her alpha, her mate. Crushed and banished from his pack, for seven years, Harper has had no choice but to live with that rejection. The worst night of her life, realising she’d been mated to someone who didn’t want her.
Helplessly her father hadn’t been able to do anything except follow instructions. She is now part of a new pack, and has finally made a life for herself, within Franny’s pack.
Initially when she’d been banished from the Fox pack, her wolf had felt desolate. Harper hadn’t felt much better realising at eighteen, everything she’d ever known, had been taken away from her because the alpha didn’t want to be her mate.
Over time, those feelings had changed, and whenever she did think of Mateo, her wolf was nonplussed about it. The years had passed and they’d both grown used to the feelings of loneliness. There had been a couple of men who’d showed an interest, but being already mated didn’t feel right. She’d known her wolf wished for a different outcome, that they could be indifferent, but Mateo was out there. It wasn’t like he was dead. He’d rejected them. Mateo was not going to mate with a young girl. Harper was too innocent and the pack would have eaten her alive. For the last seven years, he’d been visiting her new pack without her being aware, just so he could be closer, inhale her scent, and allow his wolf to know relative peace.
On the way to Harper’s new pack, he picks up a scent and follows it to a human bar. That’s where he sees his mate for the first time in seven years.
On the first night of transition, the body goes through undeniable pain, bones break, and souls pretty much shatter. In addition to the excruciating pain, she experienced a moment of joyous spark, where for a short time, she believed she had found her mate. All the strange senses and the smells—everything—is always a little crazy after that first transition, add to that pain, the one person who is meant to love her, here for her unconditionally, unceremoniously banishes her. He wanted nothing to do with her.
Within twenty-four hours, she was banished from all she had known, and sent to a foreign pack.
Now, after seven years—not a week, or a month, but seven long years, where she has finally made a life for herself—he turns up and expects her to be happy with his presence. Unprepared for her rejection, despite his father’s warning of living to regret his hasty actions.
He expects her to want to mate with him, go back to that life, where all the people witnessed her rejection and humiliation, having regretted sending her away in the first place. Harper doesn’t make it easy on him, in fact she was resolute on keeping him at a distance.
He learns to seek advice from those closest to her, Franny and her parents.
Seven Years Later Franny and Harper visit together, their children playing. She’d left Silver’s pack and arrived back at her old pack, shocked to see there was a party to celebrate her return. Assuming the role of alpha’s mate was initially challenging. Every week, members came to her with problems. By the end of the first week, she asked Mateo to speed up the work on her shop. Within two months, she had her beauty boutique open. She and Mateo now had two children. William and Bethany, and they would soon be expecting their third.
Mateo, regretted rejecting her and regularly declared his love for her. Harper reconciled that she hadn’t been ready to be a mate. At eighteen, she’d been granted two gifts. Her mate, and her freedom. Mateo’s rejection had meant she was able to live her life, be free, grow up and discover herself. All Mateo had done was wait until she was ready.
She had confessed that to him on their last anniversary that she saw their seven years apart as the time she needed to grow up.

Time to Grovel ... hmmm, now the tables are turning
Mateo didn’t just reject his young mate, he rejected her in the cruelest of ways. Just the night before his rejection, Harper had gone through that painful transition of her wolf coming forth. Mateo didn’t even allow her time to adjust, let alone heal, before rejecting her. He not only rejected her, he wanted absolutely nothing to do with her and banishes her from his pack, her pack… but he’s alpha and can tell her to go, leave and don’t look back. He left her to survive on her own, to go rogue or find another pack to join.
Harper was devastated. Thankfully another pack takes her in, reluctantly. It seems they fear her banishment could mean danger if they help her. Eventually the pack comes to see Harper did nothing wrong, that her alpha mate was the problem, not Harper. Over time, she builds a successful life at her new pack.
As for Mateo, it didn’t take long for him to realize he was wrong but was too cowardly to do anything about it. After all she was nothing but an 18 year old kid when he banished her, he was a 40 year old alpha. Finally, after seven long years he gets a glimpse of his mate… his now 25 year old gorgeous mate and decides to bring her back ‘home’.
Easier said than done. His young mate is no longer that helpless, naive 18 year old. She lived through all the pain and turmoil he brought upon her and wants nothing to do with him. Now it’s Mateo’s turn to feel rejection, to open his eyes and see his cruelty… to realize he made a selfish choice, not a mistake, when he rejected and banished Harper. To get her acceptance he will have to swallow his pride and learn to grovel.
🤔 OBSERVATIONS:
✒︎ Using the full moon to get Harper to accept Mateo was a little too convenient. I mean, she’d lived through seven years of full moons without him so why was this one so different?
✒︎ I wanted more depth into Mateo’s pack reactions to his rejection and banishment of his mate. How did this affect the Fox pack? How about Harper’s friends, how did they react? There was plenty of space for this depth by minimizing all the detailed intimacy.

I must admit, I don’t quite know how to feel about this one. It’s undoubtedly well-written, but it simply didn’t catch me as much as I’d hoped. The third-person narration was a major sticking point for me. I’m so accustomed to first-person narrators that I prefer that style, as it tends to make me feel closer to the characters. Here, the distance created by the third-person perspective left me less emotionally engaged.
Moreover, the smut wasn’t smutting. Just as things seemed to be heating up, the narrative would jump forward, and we’d find ourselves at the next morning. Furthermore, I was hoping for an OTT alpha but didn’t get one.
What was particularly frustrating, though, was the lack of a proper conversation after he rejected her. There was this glaring gap in the narrative where their relationship could have developed more naturally. Instead, we were given a time jump, and the opportunity for the characters to open up to one another was missed.
I truly believe that if they’d had that conversation earlier on, the story would have taken on a more compelling dynamic. It could have led to a deeper, more organic progression of their relationship—perhaps with him courting her properly and her slowly giving him another chance. Sadly, the absence of that development left the story feeling somewhat rushed and incomplete for me.
Overall, while the writing itself is solid, the story left me wanting more.
But maybe I’m too set in my expectations, given all the previous shifter books I’ve read that are quite different from this one, and I was hoping for a similar story?
One should definitely be in the mood for this book to really enjoy it.
Alpha's Rejected Mate - Alpha Shifter Collection - Book 22 - by Sam Crescent
This is the twenty second book in this series and it is a series that I wholeheartedly enjoy each installment of. In this story Mateo Fox is the Alpha of the Fox Pack. At forty he should be ecstatic to fund his mate but when he realises his mate is Harper Shen and eighteen year old, young newly transitioned wolf he panics and does not believe that at her age she could handle being the Alpha's mate so he sends her away from her pack. Her parents arrange for her to stay at the Silver Pack where after some time to heal and with the support of her best friend Franny she starts to recover from her devastation of being separated from her mate and begins to flourish in her own right and makes a name for herself within the new pack. It has taken seven long years and even though Mateo has visited the pack to see her the distance has hurt them both. Mateo now wants his mate and is ready to claim her but can she forgive him for sure poor treatment. This was a really well written story, I enjoyed the characters how Harper grew and became the woman she was meant to be and Mateo how he realised the huge mistake he made and set about fixing it. The story flowed well and naturally and had some great banter between the characters and some smexiness. All in all another great addition to a thoroughly loved series. Happy Reading. Please note that I was given an arc of this book for my honest review which is exactly what I have given. 5 out of 5 stars.
Part of The Alpha Shifter Collections series each can be read as a standalone with an alpha and the one who captures hi undivided attention. Mateo sexy as all get out alpha gives us all the reasons to dislike in from the start he reject his given mate without hesitation, without care, without thought to her, the moment she turned eighteen the day of her shift he rejects her, banishes from the home she has ever known and his issues had nothing to do with her yet she bore the brunt of his anger with the moon goddess so he left her to survive on her. Harper was so hurt I wanted to hug her, her father found her a pack but they were leery of her due to her being banished from her old pack usually that meant danger but the alpha of her new pack’s daughter started being friends with her slowly bring her our of her shell and after attending beauty school became a beautician allowed to open her own beauty salon. Fast forward seven years she is health, happy and her old alpha / mate comes in demanding he wants her now for her to pack up her life because he is taking her home but isn’t going to happen she has built a life for herself , she is happy, her wolf isn’t happy, and him being an alpha isn’t helping will she allow him to grovel, will she ever trust him, will she learn to accept him, does he really have a snowballs chance at gaining her back, and will they find happiness somewhere on the roller coaster ride he set them on?
Harper was 18 and Mateo was in his forties , he rejected her and banished her to another pack ..he did not even make the arrangements he made Harper's father do it . Part of the agreement was that he went and checked on her 1 time a year .. On one of these trios he smelled her in the air and found her at a bar , when he saw her this is when he changed his plan and decided he was taking her back home .. Harper was with the Silver pack for 7 years and laughed when Mateo said he wanted her to come home ..she stood her ground and made him work for her forgiveness ..I loved it ..
I gave it a 3 star because there was some very confusing parts in this book ..like Mateo said he thought about her every day , but obviously it didnt change his mind about her banishment or his rejection because he never went and got her .. He also said he though about sending her birthday gifts and anniversary gifts but that hadn't felt sincere to him , no why would it he rejected her and banished her it would have been cruel . he only realized what white ass he actually was and what he had actually made her feel when he talked to her best friends mom .. And I can't get past the fact that he was only going to check up on her and then changed his mind .
Yes he had started to feel bad for what he did but........
Mateo didn’t think Harper was strong enough to be his mate. Even worse Harper was so much younger than him. How could she be his mate. When Harper is banished, he believes that he can control his wolf. But things take a major turn because time has shown him he has made a terrible mistake. Harper couldn’t understand why her mate would want her gone. When she finally finds her place with a new pack, she finds happiness till Mateo returns. Ok, Mateo did screw up. I get the reason, she was too young. But to reject her and banish her was stupid. Thank goodness she found a pack that would love her. It was a matter of getting her wolf and herself to even think about forgiving him. Do I think she should have make him sweat a lot more, sure. But I always say you have to let go of the past to move forward. Harper was the best. She came stronger and independent. Something that she might not have been able to have if she was to become mated so early. You root for Harper all the way through the story and love the gravelling from Mateo. But in the end Harper found her place and opened her heart again. Excellent story.

*sigh* I need to stop being so generous with certain authors by giving them more chances just because a new book sounds interesting.
To be blunt, this book was boring. Literally nothing happens throughout 66% except repeating the same history between the MCs and the same thoughts. Hell, I think the MCs had the same interaction (literally almost the same dialogue each time) atleast twice if not more. Same for the hero's interactions with the heroines BFF and the packs alpha. Nothing was moving the story along whatsoever.
Then just because the full moon is almost upon them the heroine decides: well, can we just pop my cherry now so I atleast have a say instead of my wolf taking the choice from me??
Really? No other reason you might want to be with your mate? Not even gonna put up a token fight over how he hurt you? Bleh.
I expected atleast some angst or asshole behavior the hero had to redeem himself from but nada. Aside from the initial banishment of the heroine he was so pathetic and boring. The heroine was hardly special either. Both were so flat and lifeless. So, with no struggle to make this more interesting and their first time together being glossed over I was ready to tap out. Lazy work IMO compared to other books I've read by this author.

Ebook
* Summary: Years after being rejected by her mate due to her much, much, much younger age, Harper has made a life for herself elsewhere… until he reappears.
* Stats: PNR/Shifter, M/F, open door, part of a series but stands alone.
* Notes: There’s no romance. There’s a weak, repetitive, boring AF plot and backstory, no communication, a bit of sex, and wham, bam, thank you ma’am, HEA. Nothing gets handled, nothing gets discussed, there’s no tension, no meaning, nothing interesting about either main character and absolutely no depth, no nothing. I finished it because… the slump was slumping and I didn’t want to DNF yet again, I guess.
This was a great story! Harper just turned 18 and transitioned for the first time. Mateo is the alpha of the pack and is shocked to find that Harper is his mate. He wants no part of her and banishes her from the pack. Years later, Harper has found her place in a new pack and while it still hurts that her mate rejected her, she has moved on as much as she could. Her friend Franny, is a hoot! I loved her so much and she was a great friend to Harper. Suddenly, Mateo is there and Franny protects her friend. He had realized that he messed up big time back then and now he wants to make amends but it's going to take a LOT to get Harper back. Loved the grovel and loved that while Mateo's father had his back, he also told him that HE had to be the one to fix the problem with his mate! I would love to see Franny get a story in the future because she was so funny!! This is just another wonderful story by Sam Crescent and I highly recommend it!
This was a wild reading ride that really had me feeling all the anger, sadness and trauma of Harper being rejected by her fated mate, alpha Mateo. He made assumptions and was incredibly selfish in why he rejected and banished her, and gave her no opportunity to challenge those assumptions, biggest being her age. Harper made a new life, a successful life, in a new pack but it was hard. When he finally decides he can't live without her, get this: seven years later!, he's blown away at her strength of rejection of him. Ha! I really felt her pain and angst that initially overshadowed her attraction to him. And I love that the author had him grovelling so hard. He had no clue how to make any kind of recompense for what he did to her but with some help, he started as best he could. Thankfully, that led them to a hot HEA but it was quite the journey for them ;D
well written, full of drama, love, steam, romance, mistakes, intrigue, twists and wolves. Mateo is an Alpha wolf that has been mated with Harper but refuses to mate her. He sees her as too young and that the older females would destroy her so he banishes her. So he sends her away to another pack but does keep track of her. Seven years later he decides that he wants her back and goes to her to try to get her back. Harper rejects him but with the help from her and they talk thru the mess he caused. Mateo decides to stay with her new pack and work thru all the stuff that they feel and the hurt he caused. Both experience what they feel and how to deal with the love they have. Loved the epilogue- it was great to see how they did 7 years later. Would recommend to others.

She made him earn her. - Harper is devastated when Mateo rejects her. Her first shift and her first heartbreak all rolled into one. A great day to remember. NOT! Mateo thought he was doing a good thing, their age gap so significant. He needed an alpha female not a near-child to rule with him. When he realizes she has grown into a comely woman his wolf stands up and takes notice. He wants his mate and he'll walk through fire if it will bring her back to his side.
A steamy AF shorty with great characters. I love how Franny is Harper's fiercest supporter, even in the faces of two alpha males. She loves Harper and not will see her hurt, even by her so-called mate. I love that Mateo actually put in the work to earn Harper's affection. A good wolfish read.

When Harper finally transitions into her wolf, she finds her mate. The only issue is her mate, Mateo, is the Alpha of the pack and he rejects her. He rejects her out of a sense of duty to protect her since he is older and she is too innocent. Even though he does this to protect her, it causes her pain nonetheless and she is forced to leave the pack.
Years later, Harper is a grown woman living her life as she wants when Mateo shows back up. He’s always regretting his decision and hopes she’ll give him another chance. It may have been too late though, Harper is living a new life and Mateo is going to have to work really hard to earn back her trust.
Good book. A slow burn, second chance romance with a twist. Very entertaining and emotionally engaging.

Mateo and Harper. She was rejected by her mate and banished because he the alpha didnt want her in his pack. But he didnt reject her because he didnt want her he rejected her because she was too young and naive and his pack would have destroyed her. But he visits her new pack to just get a scent of her and one visit he picks up her scent at a human bar and thats when he lays eyes on her after seven long years and shes not a young girl anymore. And he wants her back. She has a choice to make and life changing choice. Shes not going to make this easy if she gives in at all. She fights him every step of the way. Overall Opinion : I have always been a fan of the rejected-mate trope so when Sam picked it up , I was very excited and she is one of my fav authors when it comes to grovel and second chance romance. I loved this one but I would not say it was very very good. I liked it as a good one time read but was expecting a bit more angst. I felt things happened too quickly for me to connect to the characters.
This one is a standalone and the characters do get their HEA. Do not expect too much when it comes to the grovel.
This book is not a go to book to read. The best friend was great at first then she just turned the tides. Also the BF after seeing her all the pain she endured for7 years. She just up and decided she wanted to play fucking Cupid with the asshole.
For the ML never really ever gave af about the FL and till the end i still think he doesn't. Everything he did to get her back was just what her friend said nothing was of his own heart. He just completed a few tasks her friend suggested and all is forgiven after having to leave home at 18 for 7 years losing all contact with everything you ever known. He didn't even try for a month.
In my opinion she needed to move the fuck on and the only reason he wanted her was because his wolf was making it hard for him. If it was that he would not have cared about her.
This was an emotional read. Harper is rejected by her mate and sent away when she is 18. Seven years pass and Mateo sees her again and realizes that he made a grave mistake. His rash decision to reject Harper was hastily made but has lasting consequences. Harper has made a life for herself at her new pack. She and her wolf are still angry and hurt. The pain of her rejection was palpable and Mateo had to earn her affection again.
This was a beautiful age gap romance. Mateo made a difficult decision while taking Harper’s age into consideration. His methods were harsh but he did not mean to cause the harm that he did. I was happy that he was able to regain Harper’s favor.

Wow, what a great read!!! Turning 18 and transitioning for the first time into a wolf is bad enough, let alone discovering that ones fated mate is the much older alpha of your pack, who rejects you on the spot. That is what Willow experienced. The story mainly takes place 7 years later, where we find Willow living with another pack, having grown into a strong independent woman. Mateo, her mate who is visiting her new pack, decides that he made a mistake. What follows is a tale of forgiveness and love with a lot of groveling. :).

A beautiful shifter story. We are taken on the journey that Mateo and Harper make. At first they do not start well when she is rejected by him, she is devastated. He had rejected her because the age difference is too big and he thought he was doing the right thing. When he finds out that she is a beautiful young woman and not a child woman like he thought, it is too late because he has hurt Harper so much. His wolf urges him to go and get their mate. can he make it right and do they get the hea they both deserve?

Mateo had made the biggest mistake of his life seven years ago when he rejected his mate. Only now when he was ready to claim what was his was he finding out how devastated she had been and that winning her back may not ever happen!
A wonderful story that will take you to the highs and lows of love as Mateo fights for the love of his mate and redeem himself to make his mate and her wolf trust in him enough to claim the HEA that should have happened years ago!.

Mateo rejected Harper on her 18th birthday and her first shift. What should have been a joyful time for her was a nightmare. He was pretty cruel about it; frankly, it seemed more about him than what was best for her.
Rejected by her mate and banished from her pack, Harper makes a good life for herself. She is still angry with Mateo and when he regrets the decision and wants her back, she fights him.
I like the story, it was nice to see that Harper wasn't pining away for her mate and didn't immediately go back to him when he decided he was wrong.
The closing chapter was truly moving. I especially appreciated the way the MFC reflected on her difficult past. It was painful, yet it also provided her with the opportunity to mature into the person she was destined to become. Her best friend was an incredible source of emotional strength and support, and the MCs owed her a tremendous debt for their happiness.
As for the Alpha, I was relieved to see him come to terms with his actions and seek redemption.
