Ryan fell in love with kindhearted Ava the first moment he saw her. The only problem? She belonged to his best friend. For years, Ryan kept his secret, knowing Ava could never be his.
Ava lost everything the moment her husband was hit by a drunk driver. Two years later, she’s a frazzled single mom, lonely but unable to fathom loving someone else…until images of her husband’s sexy best friend overtake her imagination.
Drawn together by deep emotion, Ryan discovers Ava’s feelings. As the friends become lovers, can they move past their fears to forge something new? Or will past hurt and doubt douse the flame that sizzles between them?
A steamy second-chance, single mom, best friends-to-lovers romance.
This was a forbidden romance between a widow and her dead husband's best friend. Very sweet but also very horny - lots of yearning and lots of boning. I usually don't read out of order, but this was the first book in the series I read. I'm a new fan of Victoria Silk!
Ryan saw Jake’s girlfriend Ava for the first time and fell in love instantly. Ryan knew he’d never love anyone else. Ryan promised himself he’d never make a move on Ava. 10 years later Jake passed away. Ryan was still madly in love with Ava but promised he’d still never make a move. What happens if Ava does though?
The fact that Ryan fell in love with his best friend’s girl but never broke them up over it is very noble of him. Ryan wanted Jake to be happy and if Ava made Jake happy then Ryan was willing to suffer through it. It’s cute how Ava calls Ryan whenever she’s in trouble and he comes running. How sweet is it that Ava always brings Ryan dinner? I absolutely love Bob and Brenda. The conversation between Bob and Ava was hysterical. That ending was perfect.
This is my first 6 star read of 2026 and I’m so happy it was Victoria’s book. I’m obsessed with Ryan and Ava. The twist was so exciting. It was just an all around amazing story and I can’t wait to listen to the rest of the series!
The Plumber and the Widow was a refreshing surprised from Victoria Silk. The depth of this story went much deeper than the previous stories I've read by her.
Not to say that the others were bad, but even with my smut I prefer a bit of plot and a double dose of girth if you will.
This one had that. From start to finish, you find out how they met, why the met, what led them to this place in time. Sometimes it isn't always as easy it is made out to be and Victoria expressed that on multiple occasions.
The Widow was lost and trying to find who she was after the lost off of her husband and The Plumber helped with that.
For short and smutty afternoon delights Victoria Silk is becoming one of favorite authors and her dirty jobs crew makes sure to get the job done the first, second, third... You get my point.
I have truly enjoyed Victoria Silk's short, erotic stories, but this one fell short. Ryan's best friend, Jake, has a new romantic interest and wants to introduce the two. Ava is stunning and Ryan's reaction is that she's the love of his life if only he had found her first. Jake and Ava of obviously in love and he'll take a step backward. But Ryan's not the marrying type and, for now, he's happy with Lonna, his friends with benefits/long-term lover. Twelve years later, after Jake dies in a car crash, Ryan's certain that he's still in love with Ava. They grow close as friends, but in a short time, Ava's eyes are opened to the depth of Ryan's friendship. But how can she do that to Jake? They talk and decide on a casual, friends with benefits relationship because Ava is afraid of tying him down and keeping him from dating other women. Ryan doesn't want this, he only wants Ava, but if this is the only way he can have her, it's going to be okay. Ava has some insecurity and body issues, but Ryan makes it a point to tell her again and again that she's perfect and beautiful. Their story is so sweet and everything is going well, until Ryan makes a foolish mistake that misleads Ava to jump to a "wrong" conclusion. In all honesty, Ava jumped to an understandable conclusion, considering the circumstances, and Ryan owes her an apology for his rude reaction and lack of understanding the situation. In short, Ryan sent Ava a text saying he was meeting a friend. It was a little cryptic and she couldn't help but worry. She just found out that she's pregnant and she can't wait to tell Ryan and, knowing that he's at the bar with his friend, she goes to see him. There she sees Lonna and Ryan together, but she sees a lot more. Ava is aware that they are friends with benefits and he has been with her for years and years. But there they are....Lonna is gorgeous and they are sitting really close to each other and Lonna "trailed her finger over his leg until he lifted her hand and kissed it. Touched each other. Her hand on his wrist. His hand squeezing her back. Lonna covering his jaw. Ryan rising and kissing her forehead." Okay that's enough! That's too intimate for insecure Ava. Now she understands (in her mind) that he's still seeing Lonna and, for all she knows, still cares deeply for her. She runs instead of having a confrontation but is certain that she and Ryan are over. What does he do? He gets upset that she would even think anything like that...he never validated her feelings of jealousy. He doesn't understand how just seeing them together would make her feel like he's cheating. "That's a really shitty thing to ask me. Lonna and I have a history, Ava." And then he's mad that she can't grasp the concept that he loves her. Well, perhaps you should have told her, Ryan! At this point I have lost all respect for him and his high-handed, remorseless behavior and I'm ready to rip him a new one. Then he gets all romantic but his tone of voice is harsh, not soothing. My reaction to Ryan is a "me thing" and something that most readers might not feel. The reason for the 4* is that the writing and the storyline are excellent, but I am left with an overall feeling of sadness. There is a wonderful, extremely sexy epilogue and I highly recommend it. After the epilogue, Ms. Silk says that writing a story with this kind of grief is tricky, and I say she did it perfectly. The terrific narration by Ri Paige made this story more emotional and believable. Each character has a unique personality and attitude as she brought them to life.
The Plumber and the Widow is a sweet and spicy, second chance, widowed single mom, best friends to lover’s story. Jake and Ryan (MMC) are the Plumbers, and eventually Ava (FMC) becomes the Widow.
Jake and Ryan have been best friends since they were in third grade. Jake was completely infatuated with Ava and wants to marry her, so Jake wants to introduce her to his best friend. Therefore, one night, Jake invites Ryan to a bar to meet his girlfriend, Ava. Ryan, to his astonishment, falls into instalove with Ava and is jealous of his best friend. However, Ryan and Jake remain best friends over the years, with Ryan by Jake’s side as he marries and has three children with Ava. Ryan and Ava become close friends too. Twelve years after meeting Ava, Ryan is still in love with Ava and is a big presence in Jake’s family’s life, except that Jake died in an auto accident two years prior. One day, Ava’s father-in-law pulled her aside and told her it was time for her to move on, and suggested she consider moving on with Ryan. Shocked and embarrassed, Ava discussed it with Ryan and they agreed to try it, and then it was game on!
This book was so hot I thought my phone was going to melt. The dirty talk, OMG! Make sure you are alone or have good headphones, so you don’t shock people around you. The narrator does an excellent job convincingly changing the intonation to make each voice fit the various characters.
The book has a good plot and interesting characters and there were lots of emotions written in the story. There was an underlying theme of grief throughout the book. Grief when Ryan meets Ava and knows she will be Jake’s, grief when Jake dies, grief when Ryan’s parents die, and grief when it is finally time to move on. Yet there is also hope and love throughout. Please check the trigger warnings and skip this book if it will make you uncomfortable, rather than give it a negative review, because it is a good book. I look forward to reading/listening to more books from this author.
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW Overall 🌟🌟🌟🌟 (4/5) Narration 🎧🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (5/5) 🔥🔥🔥🔥 (4/5 Spices) The steamy scenes are definitely NSFW, with lots of detailed, intimate moments. Ryan’s dirty talk is off the charts, and the chemistry between him and Ava practically sizzles off the page.
Summary: Ava is a widowed single mom struggling to move forward after losing her husband, Jake, in a tragic accident. Ryan, Jake’s best friend and business partner, has secretly been in love with Ava for years but buried his feelings to honor his friendship. After years of dancing around their emotions, a candid conversation and some unexpected sparks force Ava and Ryan to confront their feelings for each other.
It’s not smooth sailing—both carry immense guilt, unresolved grief, and fears of moving on. Ava’s insecurities and Ryan’s occasional poor judgment create tension, but their connection is undeniable. This is a story of two broken people finding healing in love, even when the past threatens to pull them apart.
Review:
The Plumber and the Widow took me on an emotional rollercoaster from the first chapter. This book is heavy with grief but balanced by tender moments, fiery chemistry, and hope for second chances. The premise hooked me right away: Can love blossom after such deep heartbreak? Ryan and Ava’s story is messy, raw, and incredibly human, with just the right touch of steam to make your headphones practically sizzle.
Ri Paige is absolutely fantastic in this audiobook! Her narration captures both the heaviness of grief and the lighter, playful moments between Ryan and Ava. Each character has a distinct voice, and her performance adds depth to the emotions in the story. She nails Ryan’s intensity and Ava’s vulnerability, making the story even more engaging.
Would I Recommend It? If you enjoy emotional, character-driven romances with a solid dose of steam, this one is worth the listen. Just make sure to have tissues (and maybe a fan) on hand!
There was a thread of grief and guilt throughout almost all of this WONDERFUL story. So be forewarned if you are looking for an escape from grief in your own life, you may want to wait to listen to this story. If you are looking for a EXCELLENT story, and don’t mind the grief aspect, and want angst and steaminess, this is a GREAT diversion. This audiobook was so good until I got deep into the story and had to deal with assumptions and miscommunication by two people who knew each other for years. I really loved the main male character, Ryan, until he made a bad decision and then compounded it by getting upset when, in my opinion, he didn’t have the right to be mad. I thought Ava was a phenomenal female main character, she had to deal with so much in her thirties. But once again, she didn’t communicate as well as I think she could have. But, as my daughter constantly tells me, there would be no fabulous story, and no INCREDIBLE HEA without the angst. This is fiction, not real life. Some times I get so wrapped up in well-written stories I forget they aren’t real, and I don’t need to be scolding the characters. I think it is a sign of an extremely talented author when I forget I am listening to fiction. This is an enjoyable read.
Holy swoon balls what a romantic book. I thought this would be a quick, dirty read, but it turned into such a slow burn. Ryan and Ava both pine for each other but never admit it. For 10 years, Ryan plays best friend to the woman he’s loved since day one…even while she builds a life with his best friend, Jake. And he just… lets them, staying loyal to both of them.
You feel for Ryan the whole time because all he wants is Ava’s happiness, even if it means putting himself last. Ava sees his love as platonic but still feels like he belongs to her never questioning his loyalty.
Now, two years after Jake’s death, they’re both grieving, but Ryan can’t hide how he feels anymore. They ignite this passion, build a deeper connection, and finally start bridging that gap. Her kids become his kids, and they’re even talking about possibly having more. It turns into a friends-with-benefits situation that could be so much more.
And can we talk about the narrator?! The best!! Brought every bit of emotion to life. These two really get the HEA they deserve, something new, something old, and something blue 😉
I did not expect this book from 20 miles away, but I loved every moment of it. Sheesh!.

Audiobook review. This is a hot and sweet story. It has a plot line that will tug on your heart. Ryan fell for Ava from the moment he met her but she belongs to his best friend and Ryan would never act on his feelings. Soon life happens and these two find that there may be more than friendship between the two but can they move on even after the death of her husband and his best friend? Ryan and Ava are good together and it was nice to see the way they find their way. There is a lot of assuming on both sides and not enough communication. It was nice to see that with some help these two find their way. Once again narrator Ri Paige does a good job of bringing these characters and their emotions to life.
The Plumber and the Widow by Victoria Silk is a short but emotional romance about grief, friendship, and second chances. Ryan’s quiet devotion to Ava over the years adds a tender layer to their story, especially knowing he once kept his feelings hidden out of loyalty to his best friend. Ava’s journey through loss and learning to open her heart again felt heartfelt and relatable. Their transition from friendship to something deeper is both sweet and passionate. It’s a quick, steamy listen that blends emotional healing with hope and a well-earned happily-ever-after.
Ri Paige captured the uncertainty and the pull between The plumber and the widow. The connection between the two is palpable and clear to all that looks at them.
What I loved most about the book was the history and the fact that neither of them can move on because of the the shared of love that connects them. For the FMC to get the ok from her deceased husband parents to move on was beautiful, especially from the father.
I am looking forwward to more fromt he author and the narrator.
Book 4 of the Dirty Jobs series. Can be read as a standalone

The characters were very appealing and likeable and perfectly steamy together. Plot was well written and straightforward. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

Dirty Jobs Series Books 4 by Victoria Silk 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
4 The Plumber and the Widow (my favorite!😍) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spicy and to the point! These short and hot 🥵 reads do have good storylines as well. Get your batteries ready. 😉 My favorite of these three is book 4. You can read/listen these as standalones, but it’s best to do these in order as the previous characters show their face a little in each book.
Oh these two have chemistry! I am enjoying every book in this series. Ryan gives her confidence. Ryan has pined after Ava for years. Ava has been a widow for a couple years and gets push to join the dating world from her in-laws.
🩷Friends to Lovers 🩷Single Mom 🩷Husbands Best Friend 🎧 4:36 Ri Paige did an amazing job narrating. 📚 Book 4 in the Dirty Job series 🌶️🌶️🌶️.

This is an amazing book. It is such a touching exploration of love and grief. I love the dynamic between all the characters. The steamy scenes are very on point. I laughed and cried during this book. It is very beautifully written. The plot was a very interesting. I like the curveball the author threw.
Wonderful story. I loved how well these two people were together. The pull they had for each other was amazing and the way they finally came together was excellent. I definitely recommend this book to everyone who loves romance stories with a deep connection.
This is longer than the first few, however, I believe it needed to be. This is a beautiful story of finding love again for Ava as well as finally fulfilling his love for Ryan. It does have Spice too so don't fret.
I really enjoyed this story which is well written and quite touching in places. This story, the fourth in the series, is a bit longer and has a lot more emotion and plot depth than the previous ones and is all the better for it. That said, there’s still an abundance of sex, passion and more sex, keeping this one high on the spice count. Highly recommended.
Ri Paige does a great job of narrating such that I got lost in the story and I thought she even performed the male parts perfectly.
DNF 50% Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️ (3/5) Storyline ⭐(1/5) Writing 🖋️🖋️🖋️🖋️ (4.5/5) Great writing but boring storyline. All the characters are incredibly 1 dimensional. I listened to the audiobook version. 3/5 performance.
What an endearing story about second chances. Poor Ryan was always in love with his best friends wife but never acted on it. Her father-in-law gave her a good pep talk. This is a delightful story about finding love again.
This is a super sexy listen. A touching subject of moving on after the loss of a husband. It’s a super sexy series loving it. They are short listens well narrated and thoroughly enjoyable.

This is a short and quick steamy romance about Ryan and Ava. He has been in love with her but she married his best friend. Everything changes when she becomes a widow and single mom. This is a nicely developed story about friends who become more and second chances.
This is the fourth book in the Dirty Jobs series. Ryan and Ava’s story is sweet and passionate. Ri Paige did a great job bringing this story to life. I’m looking forward to more in the series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
