This is a Romantic Suspense. This book is full of action and suspense which had me guessing what was going on throughout this book. I really enjoyed reading this book. I also enjoyed getting to know the characters. The ending of this book was not my favorite. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
This was a cute and fun action thriller. This book is non-stop action but a cute romance in between. Zaire and Buck fall in love while running from terrorists.
I enjoyed reading this book, both MCs were great! We also got a special appearance of Cruz Cordoba from one of the author’s other series.
I would live to see another story with this couple a few years in the future maybe Zaire does work for the CIA and they have to balance family and career in another caper.
The cerebral side of the story was fast-paced and fabulous. I adored Zaire and her feistiness. She was an encyclopedia of logical facts. Buck was not only the hero in this tale, he was approachable with the most malleable personality I've ever met in a mystery. The love story was another good time. I highly recommend this story.
I love a good suspense romance and Buck and Zaire's story did not disappoint in the least. Some of the situations they found themselves in had me on the edge of my seat and yelling at the bad guys to keep away! Given the climate we live in today and the reckless manner of the people tasked with keeping the country safe, resonated with me when it was clear everyone involved were not on the same page or had the same motives. I did a huge sigh of relief when Buck foiled the plot that would have also taken his, Zaire's and the lives of many others! It took me a minute to finish this novel because I wanted to take my time and savor every nuance of what Buck and Zaire faced running for their lives in foreign countries especially Italy! I was so pleased to see a prominent member of the Cordoba Agency assist in getting Buck and Zaire out of harm's way! Delaney, waiting for Hunted Through Italy was very much worth the wait! Near death experiences had my adrenalin high and all over the place. I have acquired a healthy respect for our men and women in real life who risk their lives in ways we can't imagine to keep us living and breathing in safe spaces. I am in love with another great Delaney Diamond novel. Thank you Delaney you always exceed my expectations in a huge way.
I was invested from beginning to end of this story. Very likable and surprisingly vulnerable characters in Buck and Zaire. Especially Zaire. I found her sweet, awkward and slightly chatty personality very endearing. Up against Buck's solid and focused personality, they balanced each other out well. They were engaging and nicely fleshed out. I really liked them together.
As for the storyline itself, I almost felt like I reading a Mission Impossible episode. The pacing and dialogue were good and kept things moving smoothly There was enough action, plot twists, bad guys and danger to hold me to the end.
I really enjoyed this book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Delaney Diamond has given her readers another fantastic romance suspense story full of twists and turns. I loved the LMC, Buck and the LFC, Zaire. I can see this novel being made for TV. Traveling through Italy to save their lives makes the perfect background. I also loved the complexity of the storyline as Buck and Zaire began to unravel the who, when, and why they were on the run from the entity who wanted them dead. The HFN for the couple was perfect; just like the setting. I recommend Hunted Through Italy for you reading pleasure.
Great book! I loved the interaction between Zaire and Buck. Zaire was scared, but she kept her cool in difficult situations. Buck was level-headed and quick on his feet to come up with creative solutions to solve problems that arose as he tried to get Zaire to safety. They were a great complement to each other, and they had a sweet relationship.

While on assignment in Rome, African American interpreter Zaire Nichols overhears terrorists planning an embassy bombing. She’s accused of murder after reporting it to the American authorities in Rome. Assassins attempt to kill her. So, she ends up on the run across Italy with CIA black ops agent Atticus “Buck” Swanson, her escort back to the U.S. Zaire and Buck attempt to evade their pursuers and try to prevent a deadly terrorist attack, while exploring their instant, scorching, and deepening attraction.
Zaire’s company’s Atlanta office sent her to Rome to establish a presence in the Italian office. An intelligent homebody who enjoys true crime and sharing random facts, Zaire doesn’t always use her filter when talking to people. She’s brave and passionate, with a strong survival instinct and will. A former Navy SEAL, Buck is resilient, intelligent, and skilled with tactics, like fighting and weapons. While the last thing he wants is to be back in Rome, he’ll do what needs to be done to keep Zaire safe and bring her home safely. Intense and focused on his job, he’s deeply attracted to Zaire at first sight, which is confusing and distracting for him. As much as he wants her, he’s resistant to getting involved. Unable to let go of the past, he believes they’re wrong for each other.
Delaney’s writing is down-to-earth, detailed, vivid, and descriptive. Reading one of her novels is like watching a well-done romantic thriller, romantic suspense, or romantic drama. I love how she doesn’t waste words and uses Zaire and Buck’s senses to explore their intense/electric attraction and deep connection, develop their characters, evolve their relationship, for world-building, and to draw readers into each scene alongside the characters. Another area where Diamond’s writing shines is how she doesn't shy away from depicting and exploring the realism of the dangers of their situation in her description and exploration of the circumstances, the characters’ experiences, and their reactions with detail, nuance, and care.
Her action-packed, tautly written, and well-constructed fights, escape scenes, car chases, explosions, etc., are thrilling. They kept me on the edge of my seat. Once I started reading, I was completely drawn into the story and couldn’t put the book down. She gives the characters (and readers) a chance to get to know each other before they become intimate. While Zaire and Buck are on the run and hiding, the scenes when they talk to each other about themselves, sharing their dreams, aspirations, and fears, and encouraging each other are funny, sweet, and emotional. Aside from the action scenes, these were my favorites. I love when authors take the time to allow the characters (and us) to get to know each other before they become intimate, even when it’s high stakes! I think it heightens the emotional connection between the characters and the intensity of their chemistry during their love scenes and their impact on the story and the reader. Zaire and Buck’s interactions and love scenes are steamy, intimate, sexy, and emotional, contributing to both the evolution of their characters’ and Delaney’s multilayered story.
Hunted Through Italy is a fast-paced, suspenseful, steamy, action-packed, thrilling, romantic read highly recommended for romantic suspense, interracial romance, action, thrillers, and light international espionage fans.

An action-packed, exciting, and steamy romantic adventure across Italy. _____ Atticus “Buck” Swanson is a CIA black ops agent tasked with bringing back civilian interpreter Zaire Nichols after she overhears a terrorist plot. But nothing goes according to plan and the unlikely pair goes on the run, not knowing who is on their side and who is out to kill them.
I read Hunted Through Italy in one sitting - could not put it down. The hyper-fast pace kept the pages flying. Also, there were many well-placed moments of downtime that allowed the relationship between the main characters to grow and breathe.
Buck and Zaire have believable chemistry that isn’t love at first sight, but it is realistic attraction that grows into a super hot connection and then love. I appreciated the choice to include both main characters second guessing their attraction as perhaps a result of trauma bonding. A lot of high intensity Romantic Suspense stories skip over that and don’t give the characters space when they return to their real lives before putting them together. We then see Buck and Zaire work through those concerns before the HEA and it made the ending feel solid and right for two very smart but cautious people. ——— Harlequin Romantic Suspense (June 2025) Series: Not sure. Seems there may be more books to come from possible secondary characters

Ready for his long awaited vacation, packed and about to leave the house to board his plane. Atticus “Buck” Swanson gets a call from his commander who is parked outside his door and needs to speak with him. It is clear that this matter is urgent by the look and soon of his boss. Though Buck has a troubled history with Italy, he is a professional and accepts the job. This job would be top secret off the grid because of the information that Zaire may have. Javelin Security would be their escort back.
“Hunted Through Italy” is a thrilling adventure with a touch of romance. This story intertwines the countryside of Italy with the United States. The danger persists, constantly looming over their heads as they are hunted through the streets and countryside of Italy trying to find a way out of the country. Zaire must find the courage to survive as Buck works to keep them alive for the next six days before time runs out.
Zaire and Buck's journey is one of courage, sacrifice, love and unwavering purpose.
Author Delaney Diamond masterfully unveils the inner working of an enemy against the US embassies around the world. Several embassies have been bombed with many people losing their lives. But why is only the US embassies being targeted and who would do it? Her gripping narrative pulls readers into the heart of this dangerous trip around the world, keeping them fully invested in Zaire and Buck’s relentless mission. As the stakes rise, readers are driven to turn every page, eager to see if Buck and Zaire can defy the odds and continue to fight to stop the devastation from happening and find out who’s responsible.
Several aspects of this book truly stood out to me. First there was the powerful relationship that quickly developed and grew into an unwavering bond between Buck and Zaire. Their deeply-rooted loyalty and resilience in the face of continual danger was both inspiring and heartfelt. I also appreciated the strong connection Buck had with his team, built on mutual trust and shared purpose. Finally, the curious love entering Buck and Zaire’s life in an unexpected yet meaningful way added depth to their characters. Even though it never distracted them from their steadfast mission to save lives.
If I have one critique, I can't wait for the second book! I give this book a solid 5 out of 5 stars. The editing was top-notch, making it a smooth and enjoyable read from start to finish. I truly loved every moment and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys gripping and adventurous crime-romance thrillers where the good guys refuse to back down.
🥃 ARC Review: Hunted Through Italy Title | Hunted Through Italy Author | Delaney Diamond Pour Style | Harlequin Romantic Suspense, High-Octane International Chase Proof/Steam 🔥🔥🔥 (Solid Heat) Must-Sip Rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)
🥃 The Pour: Espionage and Affogato Hold onto your glass—this book starts at a dead sprint and barely slows down. Hunted Through Italy takes the classic Harlequin Romantic Suspense recipe (passion, drama, danger) and pours it over a high-stakes Italian backdrop.
Our heroine, Zaire Nichols, is a feisty interpreter in Rome who overhears a plot to bomb an embassy. Her decision to do the right thing immediately gets her framed for murder and launches her into a nightmare. Enter Atticus "Buck" Swanson, a CIA black ops agent—cool, competent, and assigned to be her escort back to the States.
Assassins, explosions, and mounting sexual tension mean their professional relationship lasts about as long as an ice cube in the Roman sun. It's a non-stop action-packed tale of survival, set against the beautiful chaos of Italy.
🥃 What I Savored: The High-Octane Sips Zaire, The Intellectual Heroine: I adored Zaire's feistiness and her "encyclopedia of logical facts." She's not a damsel; she's smart, cerebral, and her internal panic feels completely believable. She carries the emotional weight of the story beautifully.
The Cerebral Chase: The action is relentless and fast-paced. Diamond keeps the suspense spinning, mixing genuine thriller elements with the required romantic drama. It certainly had me at page ten.
Buck, The Approachable Hero: Buck is a solid, dependable hero. He’s the strong silent type required for CIA black ops, yet he feels more approachable and less rigid than many heroes in this subgenre. He's the calming cask in Zaire's storm.
The Setting: Italy is almost a third character here. The race across the country adds fantastic atmosphere and urgency, making the whole affair feel suitably cinematic.
🥃 The Constructive Notes: A Slight Chill While the romance and action are a perfect mix, the "suspense" sometimes feels a little light.
This is a Romantic Suspense, not a non-stop thriller, and occasionally, the pacing stretches credulity. For example, when assassins are actively chasing you, maybe skipping the detour to pick up personal items is advised? These small, unrealistic choices occasionally pull you out of the urgency that the story demands. Buck also could have used a touch more depth, but he serves his role well as the protective escort.
🥃 Final Decantation If you're looking for a passionate, dramatic, and action-packed story where the hero and heroine are on a high-stakes survival mission, Hunted Through Italy delivers exactly what the genre promises. It’s ideal for a rainy weekend when you want to be swept away by an international chase scene and a guaranteed strong happily-ever-after.
A highly enjoyable, fast-paced blend of heat and danger.

Hunted Through Italy is a gripping thriller that seamlessly blends suspense, action, and emotional depth. The novel follows Zaire, an introverted interpreter in Rome, who inadvertently becomes entangled in a high-stakes conspiracy after overhearing two men discussing the bombing of American Embassies and future plans for more mayhem. Her attempt to do the right thing by reporting the information to the American Embassy in Rome spirals into a nightmare when she is accused of murder and detained. From the moment Zaire seeks refuge at the American Embassy, unsure if she'll be believed or branded a criminal, the narrative grips you with its relentless pace and escalating tension. Enter Buck Swanson, a dedicated CIA agent tasked with escorting her back to the United States. However, their journey quickly turns into a desperate race for survival as they are relentlessly pursued by elite assassins intent on silencing Zaire before she can reveal information about what she overheard.
The novel’s pacing is relentless, with each chapter escalating the tension and urgency of Zaire and Buck’s predicament. Their escape across Italy is marked by thrilling chases, near-misses, and pulse-pounding action sequences that keep readers engaged. Beyond the excitement, the story also weaves in a compelling emotional journey as Zaire and Buck navigate trust, fear, and an unexpected connection that develops amidst the chaos.
One of the novel’s greatest strengths lies in its character development. Zaire is a refreshingly nuanced protagonist—vulnerable yet resilient, intelligent yet thrown into circumstances far beyond her control. Buck, the steadfast and skilled agent, complements her perfectly, creating a dynamic duo that readers will find themselves invested in. The supporting cast also enhances the narrative, adding layers of intrigue and complexity that round out the story.
The prose is engaging, vivid, and well-crafted, immersing the reader in the high-stakes tension of the chase. Each scene is carefully constructed to build suspense, making it difficult to put the book down. The blend of action, mystery, and emotional depth ensures that Hunted Through Italy is not just a thriller but a memorable reading experience. For fans of fast-paced thrillers with well-drawn characters and a gripping plot, Hunted Through Italy is a must-read. It delivers from start to finish.

This was my first time reading Delaney Diamond, and while the idea had merit, it did not quite live up to my expectations.
Hunted Through Italy opens with a promising hook: an interpreter (Zaire) stationed in Rome accidentally overhears a deadly conversation and finds herself caught in a dangerous game of survival. From the first chapter, the stakes feel real. An international setting, a heroine with a conscience, and a shadowy threat all set the stage for what should be a thrilling ride through the Eternal City.
Our protagonist, after narrowly avoiding two assassination attempts, takes the initiative to contact the U.S. embassy—using a secret recording as leverage to stay alive. Enter the CIA agent (Buck) assigned to protect her. From this point, the story dives into chases through cobbled streets, dodging villains on foot and behind the wheel.
But as the plot unfolds, the seams begin to show. While the pacing kept things moving, the romantic element—typically central in romantic suspense—felt underdeveloped. The chemistry between Buck and Zaire lacked depth, and I struggled to connect with the male protagonist emotionally. His reactions felt flat, and their connection never truly sparked on the page.
There were also several believability issues that pulled me out of the story. Sensitive information was shared too freely, professional boundaries were loosely defined, and moments that should have felt tense or consequential were resolved a little too conveniently. As someone who loves tightly woven plots, I found myself wishing for sharper logic and more attention to detail.
Stylistically, the repetition became distracting. Nearly every sentence began with a name or pronoun—“she,” “he,” “Buck,” “Zaire”—making it tough to stay immersed. And while the book started strong, the story fell apart for me.
In the end, Hunted Through Italy had potential, but it just didn’t quite land for me. Still, readers who enjoy high-speed international thrillers with light romantic threads might enjoy the ride. It just wasn’t a story I’d return to.

Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️ Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ½ Wow! Right away Delany was able to hook me in with her latest book Hunted Through Italy. I have been shying away from darker books lately with how my mood has been and the world we are all living in. But when I read what the book was about there was something saying that I really should give this book a try and I am so glad I did. This book had everything one likes in a story from Mystery, Action and Romance all bundled into a nice package. The action that was put into this book was something I could see being done for a movie or TV show.
The thing I also enjoyed reading about in Hunted Through Italy was Buck and Zaire were so different from the lives they lived, but they really work well together. They also accepted who the other one was and didn’t expect or want them to change. Since this is a Romance book I do feel like Buck and Zaire had insta-love. Right when they saw each other they both had heart eyes for each other. While it was insta-love they did end up knowing a good bit about each other since they were spending so much time with each other. And the way Buck wanted her to expand who she was and what she was good at was also great to see.
Hunted Through Italy will take you on a tour of Italy that you didn’t think you would ever take and there is a point in the book you will be shocked. When I got to that point, I didn’t see it coming and had me not letting go of my e-reader so I could finish the book and see how it ended. This book is getting four and a half stars, and I am making sure I tell everyone I know how good this book is to read it. And if you like spice don’t worry there is a little bit of Spice thrown in giving this book a Spice Rating of two chili peppers.
This was my very first read from Delany Diamond and I plan on picking up more of her books. Hunted Through Italy is out and available wherever you get your books.
Fast-paced, gripping story of an interpreter, Zaire, who overhears a bombing plot and tries to do the right thing by reporting it to the American embassy. Instead, she is detained and accused of murdering her roommate. CIA agent Buck flies to Rome to escort her back to the States, expecting a quick trip to the airport and an easy flight home. What he gets is a woman with a target on her back and a race to escape those who want to stop her.
The growing urgency to uncover the truth while running for their lives kept me glued to the pages from start to finish. Relentless pursuit, close calls, and intense confrontations kept me on edge throughout the book, wondering when they would catch a break. Buck's suspicions made sense, and I loved his ability to find a solution. The nail-biter twist at the end was an outstanding conclusion to the mission.
I enjoyed the development of Zaire and Buck's relationship. Zaire was terrific. Introverted, but not shy, intelligent, and able to adapt to circumstances, and with a penchant to spout trivia when she's nervous. Buck is unflappable and skilled at his job. Sparks flare between them from the start. Buck resists because a past relationship has led him to believe that certain aspects of his past make it impossible for someone to love him. The rare moments of downtime allow them to get to know each other, and the attraction builds from there. I liked how Zaire wasn't afraid to go after what she wanted. I ached for them both when Buck pushed her away, believing that their connection was only because of what they'd been through. I loved the ending and seeing Buck see the truth. I loved the epilogue and seeing how they took the time to be sure of their feelings.
Imagine hearing something that you know can save lives or spiral your own live out of control. I don't have to imagine, I read about it in this pulse pounding adventure. Introverted interpreter is dumped in to a situation well beyond her control and without the help of strong and solid CIA operative Buck, she might now have survived. Along the way through a beautiful a picturesque backdrop, we found a couple whose attraction grows along with the danger. The author truly does not take her foot off the gas from the moment Zaire is accused of murder. Zaire is a logical woman who believing she was in trouble reacted exactly right by going to the embassy but little did she know that she was merely jumping from the frying pan into the fire. This is honestly, the type of book one expects when reading a Harlequin Intrique. You have romance and chemistry which in my mind is classic Harlequin. You have adventure that carries the team across Rome and danger that keeps the pages flying. I would give this book about 4.25 stars if I could. Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin - Romance | Harlequin Romantic Suspense for the opportunity to read this ARC.
This was a solid, quick read with just enough suspense to keep me turning the pages. Zaire’s story starts when she overhears something she shouldn’t have. What follows is a string of dangerous events including a murder charge, embassy detention, and being on the run. I liked the concept a lot an everyday person trapped in a conspiracy but the execution wasn’t always believable. The most glaring issue for me was the detour to Zaire’s apartment. If her life’s in danger and trained killers are chasing them, that shouldn’t even be on the agenda.
Zaire is a strong character because she doesn’t suddenly turn into a super-spy. She stays grounded and scared but determined. Buck is capable but a bit too composed. There’s potential in their chemistry, but it doesn’t fully play out. Recommended for: Readers who enjoy female leads in light action-thrillers with European backdrops.
Hunted through Italy a good, fast paced read. Its great for romantic suspense fans. Zaire Nichols is an interpreter working in Rome, Italy. She overhears a conversation that she shouldn’t, which puts her in harms way. Zaire’s roommate Josie is mistaken for her with a terrible result. Buck Swanson is part of the CIA special missions team. He’s tasked with helping Zaire and has bad memories of the last time he was in Rome.
Zaire described Buck as pretty and sexy in a rugged way and despite being terrified, he gives her comfort. Buck said he wouldn’t let anything happen to her and he means every word. The title is very fitting. As they were being “hunted”, they spent hours in close proximity and got to know each other in an unexpected way. They consoled each other in a way. He helped her deal with nightmares and she helped him work through an issue with his ex.
Ms. Diamond continues to make locations in her books a featured character. This was an overall good read.
Overall, the story was well written. There were some scenes that seemed to be put in for the suspense factor and then moved on without any afterthought like when they climbed out of the bedroom window and Zaire had broken glass fall on her arm- it bled but that was it- no concerns about how deep it was or if it needed to be bandaged. Or when Zaire had her glasses crushed, when did they get replaced? Is she running blind this whole time?
I liked Buck's character and how he was willing to show his vulnerable side to Zaire. Zaire was a strong female character in her own right working as an interpreter in Italy for many clients that rely on her to be as accurate as possible in everyday conversation. Buck and Zaire were a good match together and complemented each other well.
I received an ARC from BookSirens and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I have had the opportunity to read many books by Delaney Diamond and I must say that she is definitely a favorite author of mine. This is an awesome read that is action packed with a chase thru Italy, mystery, mayhem, murder, villains, assassins, romance, suspense, great characters and a plot that held me captive. Zaire is an interpreter and she overhears information about an embassy bombing. When she decides to report her findings, she learns that she is in danger and in need of help. Atticus “Buck” Swanson is a CIA black ops agent and he has been tasked with rescuing Zaire from her attackers. As the two make their action-packed journey throughout Italy to safety the two get more than they bargained for when they develop a love interest in each other.

I couldn't put this book down! Poor Zaire went to Italy for work, but ended up running for her life. Thanks goodness Buck enters the picture to protect her, and bring her back safely to the USA! Easier said than done. They had trouble at e dry turn. Due to Zaire overhearing a conversation between two men, that she shouldn't have, her life was in danger! She was able to record part of the conversation, until they realized she was there. She was able to get away from them. There were so many twists and turns but worth every minute I spent reading it! I really loved that Cruz made an appearance! I highly recommend this book! You won't be sorry! Thank you Delaney Diamond for this spectacular book! I can't wait until the next book! ❤🔥
She is an interpreter on the run after overhearing a deadly plot. He is the special op sent to bring her home safely. Things go from bad to worse. He suspects the there is a leak. Can he keep her safe? Will they make it home and find the bomb in time? What an incredibly action packed suspenseful romance. I simply could not turn those pages fast enough. Absolutely recommend for anyone wanting a great suspenseful romance. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book provided by book sirens.
Where do I start? Hunted Through Italy by Delaney Diamond was a thrilling, romantic page-turner from start to finish, Zaire's strength to protect herself at all costs. It touches all emotions: fear, happiness, love, trust, forgiveness, and disappointment.

I really enjoyed this romantic suspense love story. Zaire is an interpreter who overhears something she shouldn’t and now her safety is threatened. Buck is tasked with escorting her back to the USA but they’re forces intent on stopping them. On their journey of survival, Zaire and Buck developed feelings for each other. They have to figure out if their feelings are real or just a temporary fling.

She overhears and records what potentially is a plan for the next terrorist attack on a US Embassy. He is the man assigned to protect her and bring her safely back to the US.
Zaire and Buck's adventures take shape quickly as together they try to stop the next attack. The chemistry also builds between them as they navigate moving through Europe to get safely back to America. Filled with intrigue and not knowing who to trust... Hunted Through Italy is an fast quick read!
Wasn’t expecting to read the whole book in one day but i couldn’t put it down. A good read on a winter day all nice and cosy on my recliner. I loved Zaire,s personality, I found her funny with her self talk and Buck, awesome guy, encourage-able and not completely closed off like some of these type of men are portrayed.
This is a great plot. From when Zaire tries to get people to listen to her after escaping from being attacked, to when Buck is sent to rescue her, and they start running for their lives again. They get to know each other, while trying to work out where the next threat comes from. It's great action, good characters, and good story.
Hunted Through Italy was equivalent to watching a movie. One that is action packed, with shootouts, explosions, threats to the nation! The MMC and MFC had me falling in love with them as they fell for each other. They were both heroes! Delaney Diamond, thank you for sharing Zaire and Buck!!😍😍😍
