Sometimes the trail that you leave… Can come back to bite you.
Because she owns a cadaver dog, Evelyn Foster knows firsthand that there are valid reasons for the authorized use of human body parts. But when someone breaks into the dental clinic where she works and steals all of the teeth from their recent extractions, even she is clueless as to what their motive might be.
When she and Atlas are called out on their first official search, they discover a gruesome crime scene, where the clues just aren’t adding up, and Eve realizes that the perpetrator was clearly trying to throw the police off course.
Determined to dig up the truth, she decides to do some investigating. Little does she know that this time it might be her skills as a dental assistant that save the day.
Can she drill down to the truth and take a bite out of crime?
When Cozy Mystery author, Patti Benning, isn’t busy plotting the deaths of multiple fictitious characters, she loves to spend time hiking with her rescue dog, Max, who is her bestest writing buddy.
Patti loves to cook and the food in her books has been tried and tested in her very own kitchen. She’s technologically shy, and stays away from social media a great deal, because it makes her feel more awkward and introverted than meeting someone face to face.
Writing is the perfect job for her because in her books, she gets to explore all the topics she loves, food, animals, crafts and reading. She loves her readers dearly, and is thankful for the opportunity to share with them through her work.
This kindle e-book novella is from my Kindle Unlimited account book 5 of 5
More to come? Patti Benning is one of my favorite authors.
Eva is out with her dog 🐕 when she discovers a dead body. It is a step brother of a friend. She is there when the truth comes out leading to an arrest.
I would recommend this series and others by the author to readers of family and friends relationships mystery novels 👒😃. 2024
I gave this a 3.5 rounded up to a four. I enjoy reading stories where dogs are involved. The main character in this book rubbed me the wrong way. Albeit she did solve a murder. She got under my skin with her wild imagination and inserting herself into the crime. Perhaps its just me, of course.
This intriguing story, Bite Moves, book five in Search and Rescue Cozy Mysteries by Patti Benning, begins with a break in at Eve’s work place, the dental clinic. Would this be a key moment in the story? I couldn’t wait to find out!
The more I dive in to these stories, the more impressed I am with the handlers and their specialised trained dogs. While the dogs are eager and all excited when achieving their goal, the feeling can be rather different for their handler, particularly with the more gruesome finds. I like how Patti explores this in Bite Moves.
Eve and Atlas head out for Atlas’s first official search as a cadaver dog. This search will be challenging for both of them. Eve and Atlas had done a tiny bit of training with this particular search request. I have confidence in you, Atlas! You got this.
I enjoy following Eve, and her tenacity to keep digging to work through the twists which inevitably pop up in her quest to solve the mystery. Oh, I’m keen to see if anything more develops between Eve and Aidan. They seem more and more comfortable with each other as the series progresses.
Julie McKay’s performance had me invested in Bite Moves from the beginning, as with all the previous books in this series. Julie’s ability to adapt her voice and bring each character’s personality, both female and male, to life with believability is top tier!
Looking forward to continuing this series. Thank you Patti for an enjoyable story, and thank you to Blue Nose for an entertaining advanced listener copy of Bite Moves!
Leave it to Patti Benning to take something as mundane as a dental clinic break in and turn it into a delightfully macabre mystery. Bite Moves, book five in the Search and Rescue Cozy Mysteries, wastes no time pulling us straight into the action when Eve and Atlas are called out to a gruesome crime scene.
The twist? The evidence Atlas uncovers isn’t just unsettling…it’s personal. Teeth that have mysteriously gone missing from Eve’s own dental clinic make an appearance, and suddenly this case hits way too close to home. Creepy, clever, and surprisingly fun, this mystery proves once again that Patti has absolutely mastered the art of the short form cozy. The pacing is tight, the plot is smart, and the story never overstays its welcome.
And I can’t forget to mention the narration because Julie McKay is an absolute gem. She effortlessly inhabits every character, shifting tone and personality with ease, making it hard to believe this is a solo performance. She truly feels like the perfect match for this series, elevating already strong stories into must listen cozies.
I got to listen to this story along with Nose Knows and Ring Leader as an ALC from Blue Nose Audio on their app.
I can't get enough of Eve's misadventures in Granite.
Julie Mckay (aka Maxine Mitchell) always does an amazing job, even when she has to do all of the voices and not just the female characters.
This adventure starts with the dental clinic Eve works at being broken into and the only items missing? Teeth.
Then she receives a call from Michigan Mutts Search and Rescue needing Atlas and his newly certified nose. During the search, they find what they're looking for, charred remains, but there's extras; the missing teeth.
I had an inkling of the who and why but I still didn't get fully solve it until the reveal.
Such a great story and the audio put you right into Granite, Michigan.
I did make an oopsie and listened to Bite Moves BEFORE Ring Leader on accident. While these stories can be read/listened to as standalones, there were some things mentioned that had me confused, UNTIL I realized what I did.
Bite Moves Search and Rescue #5 By Patti Benning Narrated by Julie McKay
It's Atlas's first case as a certified cadaver dog, and he nails it! Searching for a burned body, he finds more than expected. The stolen teeth from her dental office are all around the body. Who would know enough to get the teeth and why? Eve is one who cannot let sleeping dogs lie, and this one has her stumped. She is determined to find out who did this! With her friends by her side, she finally gets her answer. Plus a bit of a flame is igniting with Aiden! What happens in the next adventure? I can't wait to find out.
Julie McKay continues her amazing narration. I cannot get enough of this series and the performance by McKay just enhances my journey with Patti Benning. Love her voices, the emotional tugs and the building suspense in each one. Fabulous listen!
"Bite Moves" is Book 5 of Patti Benning's Search and Rescue Cozy Mysteries series. These books are pretty short, but this one was about 100+ pages. This episode has Eve Foster and her newly commissioned cadaver dog find the burned body of a dead man. Also found at the scene are a bunch of teeth that were stolen from the dentist office where Eve works Monday through Friday. Those teeth were kept for Eve's dog training work in Search and Rescue. Why were those teeth stolen and why were they scattered around a burned body? By the time the case is solved, Eve realizes that what she and her dogs, Atlas and Willow, do, makes a big load of difference in the lives of the victims' families. I gave this book 5 big fat stars.
I am so very much enjoying this new series by one of my favorite authors. I have binge read all 5 of these books in a row and found them enjoyable and entertaining. Likable characters with a great premise about search and rescue dogs. Reading about what goes into training them and the vital role they play in finding missing individuals as well as deceased victims has been educational.
I hope there are more books to come. I want more of Eve, her lovely German Shepards, and her friends and their relationships.
Adorable cozy mystery series with the added bonus of furry friends! This series is a bunch of short and sweet novellas about Evelyn Foster and her two search dogs. Great series! I cant wait to read more about Evelyn Foster!
Book 5: Bite Moves Someone breaks into the dental clinic where Eve works at and steals a bunch of human teeth. Why would someone do this? Now a burnt dead body turns up with teeth. She must solve another mystery now.
Huge thank you to Blue Nose Audio for this free ALC audiobook in exchange for my candid review.
The latest case had Eve trying to connect some teeth stolen from the dental clinic to a man who'd been murdered and was Atlas's first cadaver dog find. It wasn't difficult to figure out the perp, but it was interesting following Eve while she came up with the scenario for a man's sad, senseless death. It's great that real life does have volunteers like Eve and her dogs willing to help out grieving families to find or bring closure to them. Can't wait for the next book.
Due to a break in at her work, the dental clinic, Eve finds herself with the afternoon off. So she decides to do some rescue training with Willow and their friend Luke.
Then, she gets a call, and Atlas is needed for his first search.
Another great story. A short cozy mystery. Julie McKay does a great solo performance. It’s easy to forget its the one voice narrator.
Book 5 finds Atlas being called up for his first official job as a cadaver dog. You can't help but cheer for Atlas, and yet at the same time, feel empathy for how hard it is as Atlas's handler to find the body. Eve really starts to understand the impact of her decision. Although I thought this one was a little predictable, the story was still engaging. I also loved Chloe the barista getting a moment to shine. As always, Julie McKay's narration was top notch.
✩°。⋆⸜ 🎧✮ Audiobook Review! ✩°。⋆⸜ 🎧✮ This is the fifth book in the Search & Rescue Cozy Mysteries series. I love this series, and it's another great addition. Evely sleuthing is always interesting and entertaining. She is a fantastic character, kind and supportive. The plot is intriguing and fast-paced. Julie McKay did once again a fantastic job bringing this story to life. I'm looking forward to listening to Ring Leader, the next in the series. #BlueNoseAudio
Patti you truly have outdid yourself with this spectacular book that I absolutely love so so much. There’s something about your writing that just grabs my attention from the very first sentence. This is hands-down, my favorite book so far.
This fantastic audiobook is the perfect blind of suspense that I couldn’t help but devour this book. There was so many twisting turns in this book that I was not expecting at all, but loved every second of it. This book had a pot twist that I was not expecting.
If you absolutely love a book about a suspenseful and thrilling plot twist that you never see coming, then this book is for you. I just wanna applaud you Julia McKay for a spectacular job. Patti you truly didn’t disappoint with this book.
I really enjoy these short cozy mysteries. I find them pretty easy to guess who did it, but I really like the story of how she soles it. Of course sometimes I have a guess of who did it, but can’t figure out the motive. The group of friends and her two dogs make it enjoyable also. I’m definitely continuing the series, it’s a very refreshing and enjoyable read between more emotional, darker stories.
Eve first cadaver find was harder on her than she thought. She was caught up in needing to resolve the mystery around the death so much she was constantly preoccupied with those around her. She is tenacious in her resolve to go good for all involved so she keeps digging around. She does figure it out !
It happens, for many reasons, teeth have to be removed, or they get broken out or sometimes other treatments cause them to go bad. Age can be a reason teeth have to get pulled. Gum disease can cause teeth to fall out. But what ever the reason, from Sports to Age, it’s seems like it’s seldom murder.
I have now read 5 of the Search and Rescue series by Patti Benning and I have enjoyed every one. I enjoy reading several different genres and some can get a little heavy and you just need a break. These books are the break I needed ( although I don’t know if I can still call it a break). On to the sixth!!
Eve gets a call for a report of a burned body somewhere in a field.. she and her cadaver dog proceed to the field and ultimately find the body. From there the mystery grows . A fun read.
Who would want to steal extracted teeth from a dental office? Evelyn finds herself suspicious as she works as a dental assistant. Whir secrets could be hidden in those stolen teeth? It’s one mystery you donot want to miss.
This started out very unexpected and very confusing of what the teeth were for and when you found out what they were for I understood it more and it’s very well narrated and the stories are short but very intriguing and you need to know how it ends
