My introduction to the concept and practice of face yoga was through Fumiko Takatsu’s Face Yoga Method. The Instagram, YouTube or Google algorithm gods must have sensed a willingness to dip my toes (or, in this case, face) into some of the more bizarre wellness rituals – because, well, here I am.
This guidebook is quite comprehensive, with succinct explanations on face yoga and practical (albeit rather funny-looking) exercises that target different areas of the face. The bonus chapters on acupressure and the quick sequence are convenient for when I want to be consistent but can’t dedicate an hour of my day to do the entire exercises. Alternatively, when pressed for time, I just work on selected sections instead.
Of course, the practice requires commitment, if you truly want to see visible changes to your face. Personally, I like the idea of using this method to promote better circulation for healthier skin and a toned face. Be it in the name of vanity or self-care, as a natural technique that aids in facial transformation, I think it’s worth sacrificing a little of one’s time and momentary dignity.
