Daniel Craig: The Biography

Rate this book
He's gorgeous, tremendously talented, charming, and sexy. His breathtaking performance as the new James Bond in Casino Royale won him legions of fans and proved that, as well as being an outstanding actor, he could cut it as an action hero and could re-define a cinematic icon to huge critical acclaim. Daniel Craig has truly made it as an A-list film star. This fascinating and affectionate book reveals everything about Hollywood's newest leading man—how he endured poverty-stricken years when he was first struggling to make it as an actor in London; how he rejected the "trivial" publicity that came when he started to make a name for himself; his relationships, including his marriage to a British actress with whom he has a daughter; plus his encounters with Sienna Miller and Kate Moss; and how he has handled the adulation that has come from his new role as 007.

When you think of James Bond's movies the first thing that will come in your mind is surely Daniel Craig. He is a tremendous actor and gorgeous looking elegant personality. His acting is phenomenal that changed the perception of secret agent's movies.
Sarah Marshall is a reputed journalist and worked with many celebrities. She had done her best to provide us with the glimpses of his life.

Being a fan of this gentleman, I always wanted to know things about him beyond celebrity gossip websites and obviously the Wikipedia. This book landed me in a place where I could gather more about him as a person and how he got his breakthroughs in life. A good read for someone interested in Daniel.

Panie Craig, szanuję Pana prywatność, ale już o tym wiem, od pierwszych stron i nie warto się powtarzać, co pod koniec już było irytujące ...a na prawdę chciałam dać 4 gwiazdki ...

First published in 2007, author Sarah Marshall takes the reader to Craig's birth and humble childhood in Chester, UK, on 2 March 1968.
Informatively written, we're treated to Craig's acting life on stage and in films, and get a taste of his earthy attitude to life and his work.
The biography catalogues his performances, ending with his 007 role in Quantum of Solace (2008), and more recent film, I, Lucifer (2009). The text is supported by a sprinkling of photographs and a detailed filmography appears at the back of the book, together with his awards.
Craig has rubbed shoulders with some of the best - Sean Bean, Gina McKee, Mark Strong, Derek Jacobi, Kate Winslet, Paul Newman, Michael Gambon and others - allowing Marshall to document his formative years and younger life, and provide a fine base for subsequent biographies of this talented actor.

How do you write a biography about a man that doesn’t enjoy shedding light on his private life? The author gave herself an impossible task in attempt of that with this. A large part of this book are quotes from (Daniel Craig said during) interviews and his biography. If you haven’t seen much of his work, it could be a good introduction - all be it with spoilers. The biggest issue I have with this book is that quite a few quotes are mentioned more than once.

Overall it’s a good book but written in the style of a long newspaper article. We don’t get to really know much about what the actor really feels about his roles. The book is interesting and lots of detail about his career I didn’t know but it’s not an in-depth biography if that was what you were looking for but still makes for a good read.

This book was an interesting insight into Daniel Craig and the journey to Bond. I respect his values in not wanting to be part of the celebrity world and supporting smaller Arthouse projects.

Simple and easy read. Brings out the fact that Daniel Craig was a no nonsense and a humble person who did not like fame and was good at his job, acting. Fun read particularly for his fans.

I simply had to borrow this book right waway, when I saw it on library. You could describe me as a Craig-fan. I expected to find more info about Daniel and his career in this book. In some way there was info about him and his doings, but this book didn't suprised me as I wished it would do.

Ok, there was some parts about Daniel's life that I didn't knew before reading the book. So in some way the book came me something new.

But in this book there was so much things, that I didn't like. For example, the book used way too much the same Daniel quotes. It seemed like the writer didn't remember already telling that part or she just wanted more pages to the book. The repeat wasn't effective in this book, it only annoyed me. It made me feel a bit stupid, because the author keeped repeating the same lines over and over again.

And somehow this book was way too eulogistic. Ok, Daniel Craig is amazing actor - we all know that. But since you could read it in every opening, it became a bit fustrating. And I noticed that the author didn't know how to describe this talented actor - his drinking, smoking, cursing and humor got a lot of attention. Ofcourse his softer side were also on display, but to me it seemed that the author wanted reader to see Daniel as this amazing sexsymbol, who curses, drinks and smokes as he wishes and doesn't give a damn about what other peoples thinks about him. Ok, that can be the true-Daniel, but somehow I just can't believe the image which this book tells to me.

Maybe I should do a summary. The book was entertaining, I got a few laughs while reading it. I couldn't put it down, I simply had to read it trough right away. I wasn't happy to the repeat and image which I got about Daniel. I think the book could have been written more carefully, then it would have given the real picture of Daniel Craig.

Fairly interesting book, I'm not a huge fan of the autobiography especially when it's written by somebody else. Some amusing parts and interesting stories but on the whole not the most riverting book in the world. It would probably be better when he's in his 70's or 80's and there's more to write about.

I have read this book a few times, thoroughly researched with liberal use of swearing and an impressive insight into the mindset of Daniel Craig, the individual. I came away with a renewed understanding of Daniel Craig, the real person
