HappyAgony is an emotionally moving collection of poetry. The author lays himself bare and shares his life experiences, from his youth, his work life pressures, loves and losses. I think most people will find a few poems that will resonate with them on a personal level.
I loved that he captures the very essence of what it means to be human. The connectivity to one another, the passions, the comforts and the challenges.
Some of these poems were so visceral and evoked the sights and smells I can recall from my own experiences; some made me reminisce for a misspent youth with a fondness of days gone by.
This is such a personal journey and yet I think most people will find a common ground. It is an evocative collection and takes you through all the emotions, as life does. There are ups and downs, celebrations and despair, but ultimately, we have hope that one day we will all find peace.

Poetry can be a very special and sensitive genre to delve into. Many poets are those who are
adept at baring their souls and having the reader feel the emotions that poet experienced. It
takes a delicate hand and emotional intelligence to be able to evoke sounds, sights, smells and
visceral reactions that often expose themselves in poetry. HAPPYAGONY by Mem Ferda is a
journey through his life with five core areas where he focuses his craft: Youth, The Fallacy of
Luxury, Society, Love and Grief. The poems in these five sections are sure to evoke an
emotional reaction.
Since poetry can be such a personal expression, it does not always resonate with every reader.
Any lover of poetry has to accept that, perhaps, this particular author or poem is not for sure.
However, for myself, I found that I could identify with many of the emotions Ferda was
expressing in his work. For me, I felt Ferda’s most impressive pieces lay in his section on grief.
It is fitting, for this section to bring up the rear of the book. Grief is not only about the things we
have lost, but it is also about the memories and emotions of the things and people we lost. I find
that ending the collection on a bittersweet topic such as this, was very fitting.
Poetry that spans a man’s life: from youth to adulthood, rest within these pages. Every poem is
followed by a piece of art which visually wraps up the vulnerability of the author. Every piece is
important, every piece is introspective and encourages readers to review their own lives and

Basically, our life is divided into several aspects, but out of them, the major ones are Youth, Money, Society, Love, and Grief. We all go through these phases, and our view of the world changes. For e.g., during young age, we feel like we are undefeatable, but it changes as we grow older.
Based on life experiences or hard truths, celebrated British actor Mem Ferda has penned poems showing his creative side outside of filmmaking. HAPPYAGONY is a personal look at life's ups and downs where he shares his honest feelings about youth, money, society, love, and sadness.
Each section reveals a different part of his life; like in Youth, he shares memories of his younger years. For instance, in “Bygone Rebel,” Mem talks about his wild youth.
"Drink- and drug-fueled laughter,
secrets I wish I could deny,
soiled carpets, beer, and ash,
battered knuckles, bruised and dry.”
Or, let's talk about Love, where he writes about passion, heartbreak, and connection. In “First Love,” Mem remembers his first romance, and love is shown as beautiful but also fragile.

I seriously had tears in my eyes as I read this short but poignant book. Each poem is a deep look into a part of the author’s life.
Although all of the poems were special in their own way, I’d say my favorite was The Meerschaum Pipe. So much emotion and a perfect picture of what happened.

What a Touching Collection
I found HAPPYAGONY- A Collection of Poems by Mem Ferda very interesting and touching. I can confidently say the author is a better writer than an actor. Most of the poems are based on his life experiences, family, and relationships.
From the tone and style of writing, it is clear that Mem did his job with passion and effortlessly. You can feel his pleasure and pain as you read the poems. The author ensured they never missed the crucial details of the story however short the poems are. Thus, the poems flow naturally and are easy to read.
The title "HAPPYAGONY" perfectly fits the theme of the book as the poem reflects the bittersweet memories of the author’s life. I felt empathy for the author as the agony parts of the stories are so heart-touching.

I thought this was a clever work of poetry. Anyone who likes works that are deep, emotional, and a little cryptic will enjoy this. I particularly enjoyed learning about the author’s upbringing and culture and his perspective on it.
I am just assuming these poems are real experiences, but I would have liked an author’s note or something that gives a little more clarity to whether all of these experiences are true. The idea that they are true is what makes the poems attractive, because the author was deeply vulnerable.
Overall, I enjoyed these expressions and would recommend this book.

Sometimes poetry can be too intellectual or pompous. Not HAPPYAGONY. I found this collection to be very relatable.
Mem Ferda does an outstanding job of putting his raw emotions into words. The book is divided into sections based on topics such as love and grief. It is hard to choose a favorite, as I enjoyed so many of his poems.
This book will even be appreciated by those who don't normally like poetry. Anyone who has ever felt strong emotions will relate to these verses.

My gosh, wow. This is a beautiful collection of, what feels at times, like intensely private poems, but actor and director Mem Ferda. Covering topics as diverse as love and grief, society and life in general, this short book gave me pause to think. Full. Of raw emotion, I found I could identify myself and my feelings in so many of the poems.
I absolutely loved the "Memisms," they were definitely some ideas for life that I can get behind. I think we could all do with being "a bit more Mem!"
Some of the poems, which are centred on the conflict in Israel/Palestine were heartbreakingly beautiful. So much pain was captured in their few short words, and I found myself pausing to pray after reading them.
I Love love love "Calming Sea". The sea is my happy place, and my soul always feels restored after I've been near it, so this poem really resonated with me.
Each poem ends with a simple, yet beautiful piece of art work. I've included my favourite one of these on the second slide.
