Nor had she ever met a guy as sexy as Mr. Gorgeous --- a.k.a. Greg Stewart. Diana hadn't planned on falling in love till after Labor Day, when she had time. But Greg was dreamy. He was cool. A feel-good story I really enjoyed.
Adding the twins, Ignatius and the bird a very good twist with the main characters really connecting on many levels. Choices and compromise are difficult to do but once you learn to see the bigger picture love flourish.

I love how put together, yet still a mess Ms. Diana Travis is as a character. She is the heroine of this story who is going to summer in the Hamptons with her twin two year old nieces so that her sister and her husband can go away for a break to Europe. She writes the famous "Mother Knows Best" column which explains to live better, although she personally has just gotten a divorce from her philandering ex-husband and has been semi-homeless while taking short term leases of apartments all over the region. So she is ready to change her life, after she finishes this month watching her nieces and losing ten pounds. So she gets lots looking for Gull Cottage (with two screaming two year olds in the backseat) and of course bumps into Mr. Right, Mr. Greg Stewart. She doesn't get his name but does notice how sexy hot the man is.
The cottage in not what she is expecting, but Diana is a tough lady so she is going to make the best of her month rental at the empty castle 'cottage'. Gregory is a hot Vet, but with quite a bit of baggage himself although he hides it until the last third of the story. I've seen lots of cute plump short ladies with tall muscular hot guys so this story seems about right with lots of chemestry for the couple. I'm glad that they do have a moment to think with out each other around to be sure about there future.
Very little cell phones and Diana has a huge modem (who has an external modem nowadays?!) so I'm guessing late 90's romance.

Bought it at a book sale for pennies, and it wasn't a disappointment!

Diana is an extremely anal newspaper columnist who has an utterly optimistic view of life. Everything will work out just the way she wants it to. She will spend the summer at a cottage taking care of her sister's toddler twins and a rich man's minah bird, she will finish her book before deadline, and then she will begin her new life on Labor Day - by losing ten pounds, giving herself a make-over, and going out into the dating fray. If her plans go right, she'll be married by Christmas!

You know what they say about best laid plans. The twins are fractious at best, the bird is a terror, she's so consumed with dirty diapers, birdie breakdowns, and unforseen crises that she is miles behind on her book, and wouldn't you know that in the middle of all of that, Mr. Perfect waltzes in, as veterinarian who gives house calls for hypochondriac minah birds.

Well... so things aren't *exactly* as she planned. But what she REALLY didn't plan on was falling in love with a man who's in remission after years of fighting cancer...

It was good. A nicely paced, humorous, well-written book. Definitely made for an enjoyable hour or so of reading!

3.5 stars. I liked the main character and her love interest, Gregory, though him less so when he took off at the end. Overall, the story worked for me, but I found it a little on the sad side and so hard to finish. This was both good and bad. Good because it meant the author communicated the emotions of struggling with cancer, especially in the life of a child. Bad, because as I said it took me days to finish.

Story was clean, some out-of-wedlock sex, but implied and not descriptive at all. Lots of references to God, which I personally liked. Good sub-characters and a different enough plot line to make it not boring.

On a side note, the cover here at Goodreads is perfectly horrible. I like the Amazon cover much better.

260pgs, Diana Travis is the woman behind the wildly popular household hints column Mother Knows Best. So when her sister Paula offered her a month's free stay in a posh East Hampton beachfront cottage just for babysitting her twin toddler nieces, Diana jumps at the chance to spend July by the ocean. And then she runs headlong into Gregory Stewart, the tall dark and handsome veterinarian with the wicked grin and amazing hands, and her well-planned future goes up in smoke when she discovers her fantasy lover is a man with a secret that could change her life forever.
