This cozy mystery is perfect for an autumnal read. It's light, so you won't have to worry about overly heavy themes. I would say my one critique is that it doesn't offer anything groundbreaking that other cozies have yet to do. That said, I think if someone is just getting started in cozy mysteries this is a great one to kick off with.

This was a decent cozy mystery with a light paranormal vibe to it, which is exactly the kind of thing I like to curl up with. The stakes weren’t incredibly high, there was no complicated mystery to wrap your head around, and there wasn’t a huge cast of characters — so a nice, easy read for a weekend.

My favourite thing about this novel was definitely the setting. I’m a sucker for small towns and Victorian homes, so that was right up my alley. Harper was a decent FMC. I thought she was a little bit stupid at times, but considering she’s in a panic over the events of the novel, that’s actually quite realistic, which I appreciated.

I did not like the love interest AT ALL. Major ick. Even by the end of the novel, he hadn’t redeemed himself in the slightest in my mind. There was a different character that I would have much preferred to see Harper move into a relationship with, and while it did look like it was going that way for a minute, ultimately it didn’t happen.

The ending is definitely a compelling way to encourage readers to continue with the series. So if you’re looking for a cozy series to curl up with this winter, definitely give this one a shot!

the spine-chilling moments really had me ☠️ cuz when i was reading the part where they were in the woods full of demons, a claw clip broke ALL BY ITSELF, i’m not kidding, i went🧍🏻‍♀️so now i’ll definitely sleep with my espantacucos on.
aside from that, i rlly enjoyed the concept of the story. both the plot and the writing felt repetitive tho :( which was a bit off-putting but it wasn’t enough to deter me from reading further.

la hermana me cayó mal, i’m sorry but i hate when ppl say don’t treat me like a child cuz ok, but then don’t act like one, who in their right mind gets into a stranger’s car?!?!?

roach was an unexpected surprise. at the beginning i disliked him a lotttt, he was cringey and annoying and about to cross the line of being very questionable.
however, throughout the story he grew on me iwal que con harper and while there's still a lot more to learn about him, I think it's enough to give him a second chance.

creo que i’ll keep reading this solely bc i need to know how a marriage between a ghost and a human is going to work.

This is book one of the series of Harper Quinn Paranormal Mysteries. It is hard not to talk about this book but I feel like anything I say will have spoilers in it. It ends to where I am needing that next book. The details were great. The story keeps you in it all. This book has a twist that I haven’t read yet with a cozy mystery. A human who thought she ask for help with a ghost who may not be one. Marriage, drama, family drama, and so much more.

Good

In a world of ghosts and demons, Harper and her little sister Ely have gone to see their inheritance, their late grandmother’s estate.
Harper had planned to get in, pack it all up and sell it, but those plans are derailed first by the will, and then by the disappearance of Ely.
In order to find Ely, Harper has to face her past, and the ghosts that she left behind.

This is an enjoyable paranormal mystery, set in a world where ghosts have a variety of power levels. Roach is a powerful ghost known as a Heathen, which was quite confusing for me at first, as I thought she was using it as an epithet or curse, and then I wondered if maybe he was a Viking! Despite that initial confusing, I found myself quite fascinated with him, and his abilities, and I hope that future stories will allow us to know a bit more about him.

This is a quick, easy read, with an interesting story, and an intriguing twist on the ghostly partner trope. It’s an engaging story, and I look forward to reading more about Harper and Roach.

Paranormal Mystery with Kidnapping

This was a different kind of romantic suspense/mystery story. It was almost gothic in nature. Harper has inherited her grandmother’s ancient Victorian mansion in a small town where she used to live. She returns to the old house with her sister Ely - and finds out she has to stay there for six months before she can do anything with it. She wants nothing more than to sell the old place, especially as there’s a demon in the attic waiting to claim her as his own. Then Ely goes missing and she has to ask the demon for help.

I can’t say I was enamored of the demon and Harper’s relationship, but he does come through for her in the end. The story itself is dark and spooky—like the old gothic stories used to be. And there was a dangling thread at the end that will lead you to reading more of the series. Overall, not a bad read - just kind of icky for me.

Recommended with cautions.

Harper goes to her home town Willow Haven where she inherited her grandmother's mansion. The day of her arrival her sister Ely goes missing. It's a nice story, easy to read and entertaining. I like the banter between Harper and Duke. A good start of this new series and I think it will get better. Oh, and also read the author’s Lizzie Blackwood series. So good.

The book, though well written, borders on the verge of cozy and creepy.

I have never read a forbidden romance before, so I found it a little weird in the beginning, though by the end I did warm up to Duke.

I might just read the next book before deciding whether I would follow the series, though people who like forbidden romance might like the book.

I received an advance copy of the book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

An inherited mansion from her grandmother wasn't what Harer expected. With her sister by her side, Harper goes to find out about the place. When Ely comes up missing, Harper is going to need the special gift she has to find Ely. Help from this world is not going to be enough. This is a quick read and a supernatural mystery that is a good one to grab.

The main character never even tried to call her sister

In the era of cell phones attached to us like another appendage, if someone went missing wouldn’t the first response be to call their cell phone? The main character never even tried to call her sister! Not once! So unbelievable my 2-stars is a gift.

Interesting one sitting read

Totally enjoyed this light mystery with its unique twist. Refreshing to find a cozy series that is different from the "cookie cutter" characters and stories. Looking forward to next in series.

had me looking over my shoulder

The story started a little bit creepy, which had me looking over my shoulder constantly, but turned out to be a really good story, that apparently continues in the next addition. Definitely worth reading.
