I got about a third of the way through reading before giving up. Doll, at least the part I read before giving up, is about the misadventures of a sex doll made for a hideously deformed man. The thing is that for some reason the doll costs $200,000 to make. I might forgive the author for not knowing this, being that he's 74 and all, but there are a plethora of high end sex dolls available on the internet in pretty much any customized variety you can imagine, and even the most expensive ones don't cost more than a couple thousand. The real question is that if they had such a ridiculous budget, couldn't the poor guy have afforded plastic surgery so that he'd be palatable to a real woman?

Anyway, the doll changes hands like a dozen times over the third that I read, and every single person who possesses her decides to fuck her immediately, without exception. These mostly are rich and powerful people who have plenty of access to real women, but for some reason they are instantly enthralled by the doll. There is so much gratuitous sex in this book that I'm surprised that the library carried it. It's basically straight up porn, complete with an unbelievable plot that only serves to get the titular sex doll fucked in as many ways as possible. If you're looking for porn, by all means, read this book. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

edit: apparently this was a 2019 reprint of a book that was originally published in 1989, when the internet was barely a thing, so maybe sourcing a high end sex doll might have been a bit tougher back then. Still, no way it would ever come even close to that $200k ballpark. My other points still stand.
