The Devil at the crossroads; the thoughtless wish of a guitar player; the blues of preordained fate. A time-honored tale of the American South, in black, white and charcoal grey.
I've said it before and I will say it again: it takes great guts and skill to make something that embodies the true meaning of sequential art - no words, just pictures telling a story. And that is exactly what Thomas Kefalas achieves here - not perfectly, but very nearly so. You need no words to understand what is happening, to almost hear the story unfold in the rough black, white and greys.
No explanation is needed, but for the truly curious, the lyrics of a blues song are given at the very end, which I assume were the inspiration for the comic book.
