I have read a few mafia romance books in my time, some darker than the norm, but I do enjoy the idea of a big boss being over protective and overbearing out of love for his mafia Queen. I’ve also read the ones where the FMC gets kidnapped and basically become a Stockholm example by falling in love with the mafia guy she was hating at first, but that’s neither here nor there. So of course I had to give this story a chance, I mean, its mafia romance!
But, I must admit, this read was something different. I mean, we still get some mafia vibes from this book, but it’s so wholesome and sweet, in its own way! Like, let’s start with Abigail. The girl is the daughter of a family head, and typical mafia princesses in these kinds of stories don't behave spoiled, but they aren’t afraid to rock the family wealth. Well, the one’s I have read. Yet Abigail is so down to earth and, in a sense humble, that you HAVE to remind yourself where she comes from. She wants to volunteer at an animal shelter!
And Logan, green flags my dude! He has the aura of a mafia boss, yet throughout the story, he is so respectful of Abigail! I mean, dude is so caring and listens to her, he got her a cat AND a dog because she mentioned how much she loves animals. Add the fact that he is trying to salvage his Clan from the mess his father made and he is trying to do it the legit way, well mafia legit. And it’s so sweet how he and Abigail communicate so much in their relationship, you would think their marriage really wasn’t an arranged one. Their support for each other, the respect and blossoming love. I mean, he even was willing to go celibate for life if Abigail didn’t want to be sexual in their marriage, instead of getting a mistress. They both wanted to respect their marriage vows and make their marriage real.
This was such a breath of fresh air to my typical mafia reads and I enjoyed it. Of course we get the obvious mafia moments of blood, but the way the story went, it was done in a way that worked along. And the spice, bruh, talk about delicious slow burn. Reading how these two wanted to pounce at each other, yet also wanted to take it slow so they can get to know each other before jumping deep into the sack. My ONLY tiny complaint was the moment of doubt Abigail had just because Logan was glued to his phone for a day. Like, chica, I get we all have our moments of doubts, but Logan has so far shown he only wants you. And has been clear already that he never plans on having a mistress.
Now, don’t get me wrong we do get some mafia mess here, but at least you can grow with the main characters before we get to the juicy stuff. And being that this is book 2, you know I am going to read book 1 to catch up just in case there is a book 3! I really enjoyed this storyline, especially being that these mafia families still have some standards to what they are willing to do.
