The Morelli Sisters #1

Don’t Tell Me Twice

Rate this book
From Amazon Charts bestselling author of Forever My Protector comes a brand new witty romance featuring four sisters who work for one of the most well-known fashion magazines in New York. This ex’s best friend to fake spouses to lovers romance will have you laughing out loud and swooning so hard.

Word to the wise, don’t marry your ex’s best friend even when you promise yourself it’ll just be a marriage of convenience between two friends.

I did that and really wish I hadn’t.

At the time, I thought I was doing a good thing, the honorable thing, helping a friend in need. In need of inheriting a large sum of money his father left for him in a trust, that was. With the stipulation of marrying before he turned twenty-five, of course.

Well, Frankie Agro was single and turning twenty-five in mere weeks. So when he dropped the news in my lap, I could only see him having two options—kiss his inheritance goodbye or marry me.

It made perfect sense, and the rules were we live together to keep up the charade so no one is the wiser and we never, ever cross the line (aka fall in love with each other).

Problem is? Being in close proximity to a handsome man who makes me laugh even when I have a bad day, stops by my office just ‘cause, and leaves me adorable sticky notes has my heart confused as to what this really is. . . a fake marriage.

No need to tell me twice, I already know there’s no way I’m walking away from this without a broken heart. Unless I can get Frankie to admit that this could be more than what it started out as. It’s a risk, but one I’m willing to take. I don’t have any other choice, do I?

The FMC felt very immature and annoying. I did cringe a lot, more than I probably should have...
I was also getting bored and didn't care enough to see how it ended.

I’m sooo scared about reading the book 3 ARC I have because I don’t know if I’ll be able to get through it.😭

Dani, I’m gonna hold your hand when I say this….. I NEED YOU TO WRITE THE NEXT BOOK AS FAST AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE!!!

The banter 🤌🏼 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The SASSINESS was PERFECTION
The spice.. closed door but the TENSION? 10/10
He falls first?? Yes please!!!
Marriage of convenience? Oh absolutely!

Honorable mentions:
THE GREEN LACE had me 🤭
THE EARRINGS made me MELT
The photo shoot… 🔥🔥🔥
And last but certainly not least.. the blue charger scene coming full circle.. YES MA’AM!!

First things first, a huge round of applause for all of the funny/witty narrators 👏👏👏👏

This book had me mad, sad, then kicking my feet and giggling all in one sitting. The character development was THERE. The sisterhood? Impeccable! The mystery between Dom and Maria… All of the poking around the subject has me on the edge of my seat … I MUST KNOW!!!
This review is so hard because I really don’t want to give any spoilers away.. so I’ll just say that the plot, characters, family dynamic, and the different POVS were all done so masterfully! Dani did a fantastic job describing and setting the scenes so much so that this felt like watching a movie- Her writing was so playful yet intentional which truly allowed me to visualize everything clearly. This in turn made every scene feel so real and plausible and I found myself loving and NEEDING more of these characters by the end of this book.

Finally, This book also shows the friendship of the sisters and I loved how even though they all work in the fashion world there was no cattiness. Everyone was uplifting and supportive of each other. This was so refreshing to read in every way and I simply can NOT wait for the next book to learn more about the Morelli sisters!👭👭

“To finding happiness in the place we least expected.” - like I did with this book🩷

Thank you to Dani Ryan for the ARC in exchange for my unbiased review.

When the author reached out asking if I’d like to read the ARC for this book, after I read the synopsis it sounded right up my alley! It hit all my emotions as I read this story, it made me laugh, cry, angry and happy all throughout the book and I loved that! When a book can make you feel the emotions of the characters, that’s when you know the author did it right! I enjoyed the different POVs throughout the read as well! Thank you so much to Dani Ryan for reaching out and allowing me to read this story! I will definitely be recommending this book!

3.5 ⭐️ A Cute, Quick Read!

This was a light and enjoyable start, though the plot felt a bit rushed and underdeveloped. There wasn’t a whole lot going on and things seemed to resolve quickly. That said, I really appreciated the strong sense of family throughout the story. I’m hopeful that the plot deepens as the series progresses, especially since the ending left me wanting a bit more. Fingers crossed for more development in the next book!

My oh my!! Don’t Tell Me Twice is such a cute wholesome read. It definitely gave nostalgia in all the right ways. Swoony friends to lovers romance.

I personally haven’t lost a parent but in this depiction of loss and grief Dani did a great job making me feel the feels. I always find that when you are able to feel the scenes as if you were in them that story becomes a little layer to your life journey.

I loved the way Frankie loved and cared for Perla it was very kindhearted yet very alpha male all at the same time. But also, I loved how Frankie let Perla be Perla. It is a great reminder to not settle or sell yourself short for any relationship that doesn’t serve you. It encourages you to self assess and remind yourself that you are not to much. That you are worthy and that you deserve to be treated as a priority and nothing less than that, that was definitely Chefs kiss.

Another very relatable part of this was the sisterhood between The Morelli Sisters. It was like seeing my sisters and I interact from an authors lens.

I do wish there would’ve been a little more conflict between the Frankie and his Uncle, or more of Frankie and Sal’s backstory/relationship/ falling out, also what’s up with Maria & Dom?… I’m Mexican we thrive in the details and I need to know!!! lol

Since this is an interconnected series I’m hoping the Maria question is answered soon lol maybe in the next Morelli sisters love story?

Overall this was a beautiful story, super grateful to have had the opportunity to receive this ARC and definitely recommend reading it 🫶🏼

the marriage of convenience trope is one of my favorite tropes! especially when the fmc ends up marrying her ex's best friend? c'monnn 🔥 i loved the chemistry between Perla & Frankie, and their love was the absolute sweetest. Frankie was the perfect cinnamon roll mmc 🥹 i love how he was always there for Perla from the beginning, and knew she deserved the world.

I also loved reading about her sisters & the close bonds she had with them. I can't wait to read more about the Morelli sisters in book 2!!!

Dani Ryan kicks off her new series, The Morelli Sisters, with a heartfelt and swoony friends-to-lovers romance that will tug at your emotions and leave you eagerly anticipating the next book. Don't Tell Me Twice focuses on Perla, the youngest of the four Morelli sisters, all of whom work for their family's prestigious fashion magazine, Bellissima.

After finally breaking free from a toxic relationship with her self-centered boyfriend, Chris, Perla finds herself saying yes to an unexpected proposition: marrying Frankie, Chris's best friend, so he can secure his late father's trust fund. What starts as a marriage of convenience between two friends evolves into a tender love story as Perla and Frankie learn to navigate their growing feelings for one another-all while convincing Frankie's skeptical uncle of their relationship's authenticity.

This book had me feeling everything. I laughed, cried, and swooned through every page. The romance between Perla and Frankie is wholesome yet layered with just the right amount of tension and heartfelt moments. Frankie's unwavering support and care for Perla were swoon-worthy, and I appreciated how he allowed her to grow into her own confidence and self-worth. The transformation Perla undergoes-from settling for less in her love life to realizing she deserves to be prioritized-was empowering and beautifully written.

Beyond the romance, the sisterly bond among the Morelli sisters was a highlight. Their interactions were warm, supportive, and free of unnecessary cattiness, which was such a refreshing take for a story set in the competitive fashion world. It's clear that the family dynamic will continue to play a central role in the series, and I can't wait to dive deeper into the lives of the other sisters in future books.

The multiple POVs added depth, allowing us to connect with the characters on a more intimate level. And while the story touches on loss and grief, it does so with care, making the emotional moments feel authentic but never overwhelming.

In the end, Don't Tell Me Twice is a charming, uplifting romance that celebrates love, family, and finding your worth. Dani Ryan's playful yet intentional writing made every scene vivid and relatable, and I closed the book feeling like l'd gained new friends in Perla, Frankie, and the Morelli sisters. If you're a fan of slow-burn, closed-door romances with heartfelt emotions and laugh-out-loud banter, this one is for you.

Don't tell me twice is a fun, witty and heartwarming romance novel that will keep you glued to its pages right from the start. This is the first book in "The Morelli Sisters."

Perla is in a relationship with Chris who has no time for them anymore. She has let him continuously get on with it however her heart was breaking gradually. Then things took a different turn and soon enough she was marrying her ex's best friend.

Frankie Argo was Christopher's best friend and could see how much he took Perla for granted. When unexpected situations lead to a marriage of convenience, both Perla and Frankie set some rules. The biggest of them being that they would not fall in love with each other.

But it seems fate has other plans for them. Will the romance finally bloom in their lives with a promise of forever?

A sweeping contemporary romance with blends of emotionally charged moments of understanding and love. It was heartwarming and delightful to read the story where I was completely immersed in the characters lives, feelings and actions. The other characters are well-written as well, their introductions to their personalities makes me curious to see their stories evolved too and Frankie, the MMC is such an incredibly swoon worthy character. The story's narration is absolutely engaging and interesting. The romance was *chef's kiss.* I'm still thinking about their relationship dynamics and the chemistry that the author expertly weaved in. I really liked the protagonists character development. I'm really excited to read more books from this engrossing series.

“Don’t Tell Me Twice” follows the youngest of the Moretti sister’s “Perla” and photographer, Frankie Agro. We start off with Perla’s disastrous relationship with Chris - who just happens to be Frankie’s so-called best friend. Since Chris has been working up in the finance world, he completely forsakes any responsibility and relationship outside of his workplace. Following the tragic passing of Perla’s mother & Chris’ inability to show for her funeral, Perla reaches her breaking point & ends things with Chris. Here comes Frankie - he’s formed a friendship with Perla, over the years of friend group shenanigans & the endless times he’s saved Perla from Chris’ ditched dates with her. The two form a stronger friendship after Frankie supports Perla at her mother’s funeral & he pulls through for a work emergency photoshoot for her magazine. So when Frankie needs an immediate wife to meet the contingency of his father’s inheritance, Perla doesn’t hesitate to offer herself as the solution. This was a cute, fast romance read. I liked Perla and Frankie together & how all of Chris’ old friends rally behind Perla & take issue with their old friend’s behaviour. I really liked the family relationships as well; especially with the Moretti sisters. I really connected with their parts of the story. I like how in the end, the pair re-knew their vows in a “true wedding”, when coming to terms with their real love for each other.

This was my first book from this author and it was a cute and easy read. I have been reading a lot heavier books so this was a nice palette cleanser for me.

Perla starts off the book dating Chris who keeps blowing her off and canceling plans. He sends his friends in his place to have smooth it over. This leads to Perla becoming close with them and developing a deeper bond.

This story did have some heartbreaking mourning in the very beginning. The characters are very relatable and you instantly fall for them and feel their pain and happiness throughout the book.

ARC Review:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Perla stems from the New York fashion world. Her family owns and operates one of the most successful magazines, Bellissima. Despite having a clear path professionally, her love life is in shambles. She can never count on her boyfriend (Chris) to show up for dates and other commitments.

Frankie is many things: handsome, caring, talented, and successful. He can always be counted on to come through for those he loves. So when his best friend (Chris) drops the ball with Perla, he is there to pick up the pieces.

When an opportunity arises for Perla to repay Frankie, she agrees. The two enter into a fake marriage so that Frankie can collect his hefty inheritance. Will their marriage be strictly for convenience, or will it segue into more?

Don’t Tell Me Twice is the first of four books in Dani Ryan’s The Morelli Sister series. Being the first book Ryan does a terrific job of introducing the entire Morelli family and pertinent background information. I loved seeing the family dynamics and traditions at play. It perfectly set the stage for the rest of the series.

In addition, Ryan did a great job with the ex’s best friend and marriage of convenience tropes. While these are not sub genres I typically gravitate to, I will in the future, thanks to Perla and Frankie. Their playful and passionate personalities made for a fun read.

I cannot wait to continue with this series. I am already attached to the entire Morelli family and cannot wait to see what they get up to next.

Special thanks to Dani Ryan for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Do read the author note at the beginning for there is mourning and it is real.

The work professions of the main characters seemed very well understood/researched by the author, so if you're into photography and/or fashion, this will be your jam.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I would very much like to know the deal with Maria and her man friend. So I'll be looking forward to reading that story too.

The main characters are lovable and you can't help but cheer for them to establish their connection. I do wish their relationship development had been given more page time. The first half felt more drawn out in some ways so I was surprised by the pace after reaching the halfway mark.

Romance - I would lean more toward a PG-13 rating for this book.
There is a scene with one person in minimal clothing and much description of physical attraction/sexual tension.
But no on-page sex or even much physical touch described.
There are casual comments between side characters and main characters on the topic of sex and relationships. The mentions of sex were more blunt than I expected, but then again, I am an Austen Nerd and I love subtle romance. (Give me those barely there hand touches!)

The friendship to romance had some very sweet moments. The male lead was endearing, particularly in his ways of caring for his lady. Simply adorable. I love when men casually do clean up and household chores, and notice the little things about their lady. Fiction or non. Love that. I think from the build up with the side characters, and the plot from the beginning of the story, I expected them to "weather more of a storm" together against the antagonist than they did.

The families were also very endearing. Having close-knit family while leaving room for each character to stand on their own is always fun to read.
I wanted to hangout with the mother-in-law. What a legend.

Book: Don't Tell Me Twice
Author: Dani Ryan
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Rating: 5/5⭐️

☆ Perla Morelli, the youngest of four sisters, works at a fashion magazine. Frankie (love that name!) Agro needs to marry before his 25th birthday to inherit his father’s fortune. Perla eagerly agrees to a marriage of convenience with Frankie, but he’s just a friend… right? As they navigate their new arrangement, sparks fly, and Perla starts to wonder if there might be more to their relationship than just friendship.

☆ This book hit close to home for me! As the youngest of three girls and being Italian myself, I could really relate to Perla’s family dynamics and cultural background. The author does a fantastic job of capturing the essence of Italian family life, making the story even more engaging and relatable.

☆ This fast-paced, engaging, and chemistry-filled book is perfect for those who love romance with a touch of comedy. The witty banter between Perla and Frankie, combined with their undeniable chemistry, makes for an entertaining and heartwarming read. If you’re looking for a book that will make you laugh, swoon, and maybe even shed a tear, this is the one for you.

Tropes:
- Friends to lovers

At its core, this story was adorable, but it was missing some elements for me. First of all, I loved Perla’s sisters and the bond they shared. I liked that their unique personalities stood out clearly in the story. I like Frankie and Perla and I even liked them together, but I wish there had been more chemistry built up between them. They go from zero to 100 quickly. I would have appreciated a little bit more build up especially because Frankie was her ex’s best friend. I’m so glad I tried out this author and definitely look forward to reading more by her!

Omg where to even begin with this book?? The storytelling was truly something spectacular. It felt like I was reading the work of a NYT best selling author! This story has many different elements such as high profile jobs, fortunes, friendship, love and most of all family! 💕 I really enjoyed the Italian influence and I can’t even explain what a wonderful read this was. If you want a closed door romance that will have you giggling out loud and blushing without the spice, this one is for you! 😍 truly one of my favorites reads of the YEAR!
One thing is for certain, EVERY woman deserves her very own Frankie. 💙
Thank you so much, Dani, for trusting me with your work. 🫶🏻 I’m truly so happy to have been an ARC reader for this book and I will be first in line for any of your future releases!

Frankie Agro is Pearla’s ex’s’ best friend. When he finds out he will
Lose his inheritance if he doesn’t wife up soon there is one person he thinks to ask for help. That’s right, Pearla! Will these two keep it just friends helping one another or will close quarters bring out their true feelings? This is a sweeter closed door romance with a PG feel. It also doesn’t really start their story together until after 35% as she is still with her loser boyfriend until then. This wasn’t my usual read as I found myself skipping around but fans of a family oriented, closed door romance might enjoy this. All in all this is a cute “it’s always been you” romance. Told in first person & dual POV.

3.5⭐️ rounded up ONLY because I personally had a hard time connecting with the characters but that was a me issue and not a book issue! I loved watching Perla grow and leave a relationship that wasn’t good at all! I loved how Frankie was showing up for Perla from the beginning and how cute they were together. This was a fun and cute read. It was pretty obvious from the start that Perla & Frankie had amazing chemistry.

I don't believe the whole he didn't have feelings for her from the start because I mean no one is going to basically be a substitute boyfriend to their best friend's girl out of the kindness of their heart. Maybe I'm cynical but come on.

I did enjoy Perla & Frankie fighting their feelings for each other. I love that Chris and Bart weren't really big focus when it came to Perla & Frankie's relationship.

3.5⭐️ this was a cute story of marriage of connivence. Perla and Frankie were so sweet and loved all the family vibes and closeness they each had with their families. I really enjoyed Perla’s character growth through out the story of her realizing what she wants at as a young adult. From a relationship she realized she was outgrowing to finding out what she really wants in one and going for it. I love how Frankie was always there for her, how much this friendship was very needed between the two.

I really liked the banter in this story too. From the moment Frankie sits down to dinner with Perla I liked him. I liked how they developed a friendship…and well maybe something more!

I loved the Morelli sister bonds in this book - they were so supportive of each other and were true friends!

I really enjoyed Don't Tell Me Twice! It was such a fun, fast-paced read with an age-gap, friends-to-lovers, marriage-of-convenience setup that totally worked. I loved the dual POV and the sweet MMC, and I could really relate to the FMC’s sassy comebacks and her journey to finding confidence. While I wish it wasn’t a closed-door romance, the humor and charm made it a solid read. I’m excited to check out the rest of the series and see what’s in store for the Morelli sisters! If you want that swoon worthy, friends to lovers story, look no further! This is one of my favorite tropes and Dani did it so well!

I feel like this is a little different than the usual friends to lovers I've read. This one is Perla and Frankie becoming friends because Frankie is Perla's boyfriends friend. That aspect honestly made me fall in love with the trope more because they haven't always been friends, it's super fresh, which was fun to see.

Perla is super close with her family, even working for her father alongside her sisters. Tragedy strikes and they are all left so heartbroken and trying to find their way after losing someone so close to them. Perla is trying to prove her worth in their work scene but she's also trying to find her way in the world. Her boyfriend, Chris, is awful which was beautifully done by Dani. I HATED him! Like felt it in my gut I wanted to punch him. When I can get that much feeling while reading a story I know it's going to be a good one.

Enter Frankie, he's Chris' friend and keeps stepping up to help Perla when Chris is being a douche. But finally when Perla has had enough and gets rid of Chris, Frankie is still there for her and they stay friends. Frankie gets hit with some crazy news about his late father which means he has to get married ASAP. So he confides in Perla and she decides that after all he's done for her why not step up and help him by marrying him?! But naturally it turns into way more than that.

I loved Frankie and Perla's connection from the start, they had immediate chemistry even while she was dating the awful Chris. Their banter back and forth was so fun. I loved how close Perla was with her family, especially her sisters. It felt like having a small girl group of amazing friends and it was so fun to read about, especially their sleepover scene. There was so much love and support from everyone in this book and it was so heartwarming to read. Dani is a more closed door romance writer but you definitely get those steamy vibes in this one for sure and I really enjoy when an author can give that spicy feeling while keeping it closed door, she did so amazing!

I don't want to dwell on negatives or give spoilers, but this was about a 4.5/5 for me overall just because of a part of the story feeling rushed to me personally. But I don't think everyone will have that same feeling so I highly recommend reading this one!! These two will have you giddy while reading and falling in love with these characters in anticipation for more of the series to come!

Thank you Dani Ryan for having me on your team as a beta reader and letting me be a part of this incredible journey with you!

"...every moment with you has been like a fantasy.”

Frankie and Perla

Dani Ryan is a new author to me. I signed up because I loved the blurb... but there should be a warning that it's a close door romance (or close to that, I don't kmow what the term is).

Frankie was Perla's ex's bestfriend... that got me hooked, but had I known it lacked in the spice department or that it was a close-door romance I wouldn't have signed up, I'm sorry. I was excited and giddy starting this book only to find out it's not what I anticipated... don't get me wrong, I loved the overall premise of the story. It was riverting enough but for me, it just lacks in the spice department... I wasn't even expecting some graphic love scenes... just that, there should've been something more than it was written because it caters to adults. I'd say spice level is 2 out of 5...

ARC REVIEW:

This book is a delightful, witty romance that expertly blends humor, heart, and swoon-worthy chemistry. The story follows a fashion magazine editor who enters a "marriage of convenience" with Frankie, her ex’s best friend, so he can secure his inheritance. But what starts as a simple arrangement soon becomes complicated as real feelings begin to emerge.

With charming banter, laugh-out-loud moments, and endearing characters, the familiar fake marriage trope is fresh and engaging. The slow-burn romance is filled with warmth, tender moments, and undeniable chemistry that had me rooting for the couple from start to finish.
