Junie B. Jones is a series I much-enjoyed during my elementary years, and as I recently auditioned for Junie B. Jones is Not a Crook, a play, it gave me the excuse to read them all again. Even though the books are simple and relatively short, Park packs them with humor and entertainment. The books are realistic fiction, first-person stories narrated by a kindergartner named Junie B. Jones. The type of narration embraces the "little kid" style in an understandable yet believable way, and I strongly recommend this series to young elementary through middle-grade children. The series teaches important life skills and is overall a quality read for kids. Five stars from me!
Listened to the audio book with my kids while running errands. It was my husband's first time hearing/reading any Junie B Jones books and he seemed to like them just as much as the kids. I love the narrator and am going to try to emulate her when I read Junie B books from now on.
Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus, is a story that talks about your first day of school and the stereotypes that come along with riding the school bus for the first time. Through Junie B. story the reader is to see how it is a scary thing going to a new place, but not as scary as the stories you may hear about that place before going. This story can be used to help students learn how to treat one another no matter their age on the school bus as well as school. This story can be used to talk about bullying and using words that make other feels good rather than tear each other down.
The other short chapter book I read this week was another one from the Junie B. Jones series since I loved them so much as a kid. Junie B. Jones and a little monkey business is about how she hates babies-even her little brother. Junie soon finds out that everyone, even her bestest friends will do practically anything to see her brother. She even finds out she might be able to take him to pet day. I would recommend this to any student up to third grade!
This book has a social issue in which childern might not always like the first day of school. In this story she is starting her first day and really doesn't want to take the bus but has to. It is something childern usually face all the time when they are much younger. This book is a chapter book that has a couple of pictures which are not in color but show small parts in the story in those pictures.
