ARC REVIEW
I'd received the ARC copy a couple of weeks back, and I'll admit it was laziness on my part that I didn't gobble this as soon as I'd got it in my grubby little paws. And boy, am I beating myself up over it.
This book is so freaking good! Like damn, I just finished it few hours back and I'm already on my toes for the next part of this duology.
The story is about Blair, a member of a gang (Incindious) in New York. He gets shot in the leg and, at the hospital, comes across a blunt-mouthed med student/intern, Wren. The connection is not at first sight (Thank God! I'm sick and tired of seeing men's loins getting stirred at first sight). But the relationship does start developing when Wren shows up at Blair's place, asking about a certain pet (that part made me giggle a little. Just a little).
I loved that the gang wasn't overly dramatised. I swear, some books have such over the top dialogue and cringey scenes, it's just a dnf waiting to happen. The gangs here were slightly more believable than other contemporaries, and it added to the whole reading experience. Sure, you do have to suspend belief in a few instances, but I'm not American, much less a New Yorker, so what do I know?
Now, let's get to the good part: WREN!!!Blair's My adorable grumpy munchkin. Ah, this brand of sarcasm is my favourite. Nothing too much, nothing too cringe hurtful, just perfect. Wren is just an onion waiting to be peeled, and Blair is more than willing to peel him. Literally. I loved their light banter sprinkled throughout the story, and also the dry humour that existed as second nature in Blair. Another thing I wanted to point out was how the dialogue was on point. Usually, a lot of authors, to write sassy comebacks, they take lines and lines of dialogue to get their point across, but dude! No one in real life is going to let someone insult them for hours without getting a word in. Here, the comebacks were all one-liners, and they were good ones!
Blair is such a cutie, and I gotta admit his patience level is sky-high. I mean, who else could handle Wren and love him with the care he needs without punching him square in the face? Blair’s inner turmoil of wanting to belong somewhere is portrayed so well, and baby boy doesn't know how to live for himself, but Wren is helping him get there.
Even the supporting characters are quite good and fleshed out: Spencer, Julian, Reymond and my personal favourite, Felix. (I really hope the next book is from Felix and Reymond's POV)
So why then, is this book not a five star?
I'd say it's because of the ending. The focus was too much on the action and the sudden reveal wasn't really as shocking because of all the action surrounding it. It felt a bit anti-climatic tbh. But, I think more will be explained in the next book, so I don't want to comment too much on it.
Another minor gripe I had was that Wren's relationship with his father wasn't truly explored. I thought perhaps at the end, more substance would be provided, but it was sorta just glossed over, so I'm left wanting a bit more in that area.
A little problem I had (which is not really a problem per se, but a minor annoyance perhaps) is that this is marketed as a slow burn, but I didn't really feel as though it was slow (not that having sex at 50% mark is a problem, but I'm just saying). The relationship gradually progressed at a normal pace, nothing too hornily fast or stupidly slow, it was just on the proper side of perfect.
But, that's alright, these are just a few minor issues that cropped up, and I have a feeling a lot will be answered in the next book.

When I first read the blurb for this book I was so excited and it turned out to be so much better than I imagined.
The author has been hiding their gift from the world.
I can’t exactly explain it but the writing was slightly different from what I’ve encountered so far (in the best way) and it was refreshing to read. The plot was captivating and although I normally don’t like 3rd person POV, the story was flowing seamlessly.
I also enjoyed the fact that it was mostly told from Blair’s POV since it kept Wren more of a mystery and I was at the edge of my seat wanting to know more about him. We got to know Wren through Blaire’s eyes and it was adorable!
Blair was such a nice character! I fell in love with him so fast…but Wren was my everything. We even share a birthday with the sarcastic grump! Scorpios unite✊🏻
Wren was written so well. He portrays the perfect unfeeling and uncaring persona but in all his actions you can see how he contradicts himself and how he slowly starts caring more and more.
The book wasn’t really a slow burn but the progression of their relationship was more mild paced. When getting to know Blair’s character, there are some insinuations that he might be demisexual but that’s left to our interpretation and it made it all the more endearing to me that no labels were needed. It was just two men falling in love in a world full of chaos without anyone questioning their sexualities (as it should be).
For a gang romance it was surprisingly light and I found myself chuckling almost every time Wren opened his mouth!
These two give off such Andreil vibes that I was eating up their interactions since that’s my favourite kind of dynamic! It’s all in the little things between them!
A lot of research has been done for the subjects included in order for the book to be written and it shows! It was such a smashing debut and I can’t wait for more from the author.
As for Wrenny boy? He will be staying with me for a while because I might just love him more than Blair does!

This was definitely a case of it was me and not the book. It started off good and I was liking it but it just got a little boring to me. A lot of little things happening that kind of just took up space. I love Blair but Wren is still hard to like even at this point. I may pick it back up at a later point. Again I think it’s me and not the book but if you’re interested there’s some safety below.
At this point:
NO CHEATING (I don’t see this happening at all)
NO OM DRAMA (I don’t see this happening either, these guys only want each other)

** But loving you is living for myself. You’re my fucking world, Wren.**
A hot awkward, grumpy, standoffish doctor and a virgin gang member. Wren and Blair are absolute perfection. I cannot express just how much I love them. Wren’s grumpy ass stole my heart from the first scene with him. Blair is the virgin gangster that has found himself shot in the leg and in the middle of a turf war. Wren is the hot student doctor that attended to him. The plot was just as good as the spice, this was definitely page gripping. I finished it within 24 hours. This book deals with heartbreak, betrayal, finding yourself, and found family. It definitely has the grumpy/sunshine part down. Gah I just love Wren. Don’t walk, run to get this one! This does end with a HEA and I can’t wait for book number two!

This had me hooked from the very first explosive action sequence!
This is not your average mafia novel. Blair and Wren are not your average characters, both captivating in their own ways.
Blair, our young arms dealer, paints a portrait of a young man who'd do anything for the security a found family offers. He's dedicated and complex, and adorable to read about.
However, I particularly fell in love with our snarky work-obsessed medical student who definitely never imagined himself dating a gang member. Let alone one about to become wrapped up in a vicious gang war. I love how Wren challenges Blair’s mentality over his belief that his gang is his everything.
The plot develops at a good pace, alongside the romance. Expect twists and turns as two gangs come head to head.
The spice is phenomenal. Emotive, and felt so true to the characters. These two are 🌶️🥵🔥 Their slow-growing love for each other unfolds very authentically and I look forward to seeing what's next for them.
This book ends on a HFN with more challenges for the couple to work through together in book 2.

4.5 stars - ARC Read
I really like this book I think Wren was written perfectly with him thinking he thinks he's uncaring but all his actions towards Blair showcase otherwise. I likes that for a gang/mafia book it wasn't overly graphic and was fairly light-hearted. The only reason this wasn't a 5 star is because the big reveal at the end was anti climatic and the overall lack of Wren POV's leading to us never really finding out much about his dad and their relationship.

Wow this book was a rollercoaster of unaliving, gang war, finding your place in the world, letting go of the past, finding your way forward, discovering emotions and love and trying to find the balance between the chaos.
This book got better and better the further in you read.
The relationship between Wren & Blair is pretty instant but both parties are confused why they are so attracted to each other. Especially when they seem like total opposites.
Wren is a grumpy AF medical know it all student with a murky past & Blair is an arms dealer in a gang who is trying to find his purpose. When Blair lands in the hospital, the last thing he figured he would find would be a medical student to flirt and torment.
But somehow these two have immediate chemistry and are like magnets and can't get away from each other. Their banter was great and their emotional gain was heartwarming.
This book had a depth to it that I didn't expect.
When you read you really feel just as confused as Blair when it comes to why he is in the gang and you feel his emotional struggle to pick between his found family and the new love of his life.
This isn't a true dark romance, but violence and blood are included so please check trigger warnings if that makes you squeamish.
The other surprising thing through the book is you think you know who the top is and I was blind sided by who it actually was lol.
Overall, this book has a great rainy atmosphere based off of their location. It has a great struggle between what the characters know and their evolution of want/need.
This book got better and better the further in you read.

UH. The way I absolutely love and adooooore broken boys! It’s insane. Truly spectacular.
Usually I do struggle a bit with 3rd person POV and in the beginning, like 3-4 first chapters, I did actually struggle to follow where the story was going but once we start knowing a bit more who is who and who does what… I was HOOKED.
I absolutely inhaled this book.
Blair was the cutest bean, all throughout the story, the perfect protective big brother, loyal to his found family and going through some big emotions and discoveries of himself. How can you not love him? It’s impossible.
Also this book was basically written in his POV so we meet Wren through his eyes, and we get to meet him at the exact same pace and time as Blair, which is different and I enjoyed it a lot.
It maintained a sort of aura of misters around Wren and it stayed there the whole book…
And Wren, our doctor in training Wren. Oh boyyyyy I love broken boyssss! Did I mention that I love broken boys? No? Well I do.
This dark, unfeeling, perpetually apathetic and annoyed person that is actually feeling so much but has no way of showing it… until Blair starts braking through his walls… GAH! Love him.
In general I didn’t feel like it was a slow burn, it felt more like a real romance, a real story… going on dates, getting to know each other, starting to feel comfortable in each other’s presence… it felt good, like a balm to the heart✨

There was over de top action, secrets, two MMC who I really liked and a found family.
Blair isn't a typical gangster and I really liked that. And the way he understood Wren and just let him be.
Wren and Blair were magic together and they knew it.
Really loved this one! And I just need to buy the paperback because that looks amazing!

Always teaching him how to survive and that emotions mean nothing and the pain is the only thing worth feeling but as a gunshot victim comes into the hospital and calls him sunshine his whole world turns upside down
“You’re a fuckup. That’s what you told me.” “And now you see why.” “And I told you to be my fuckup. So come back.”
I got to say I was very intrigued when I first saw this book and I went into it with semi high expectations and let me say

I really really like this book. It’s just my vibe and it has credible potential. I cannot wait for the second book
I read somewhere that the couple gave Andreil vibes and I one hundred pro-cent agree with that but I really liked Blair and Wren as a couple they complement each other so well and support each other no matter what
“I’m going to have to start dressing you up more often. It’s not fair to hide all this under those baggy clothes you wear.” “Shut up,” Blair said weakly. Wren leaned down, his face hovering over Blair’s. “Why? Your body is perfect, and it’s mine.”
Ugh! I seriously like when they got a possessive as wren is his appreciation of Blair is magical
I ate this book up. I could not stop reading even though I fell asleep doing because of course I thought it was a great idea to start reading after a night shift, but it didn’t spoil the outcome

My god. the spice was magnificent The chemistry between them absolutely outshown the most of the books I’ve read
I seriously cannot believe that this is a debut book from a baby author it has such an amazing plot and absolutely beautiful writing. It’s a shame that this much talent has been deprived of our eyes and hearts.
I absolutely had to read this a 5/5 stars I will say this is one of the greatest books I have read so far this year definitely in my top three
I tried to write this review with as few spoilers as possible because I really think that you should read this book for yourself and I would love to know what you think about it as well

I got to say I was very intrigued when I first saw this book and I went into it with semi high expectations and let me say

I read somewhere that the couple gave Andreil vibes and I one hundred pro-cent agree with that but I really liked Blair and Wren as a couple they complement each other so well and support each other no matter what

I ate this book up. I could not stop reading even though I fell asleep doing because of course I thought it was a great idea to start reading after a night shift, but it didn’t spoil the outcome

I seriously cannot believe that this is a debut book from a baby author it has such an amazing plot and absolutely beautiful writing. It’s a shame that this much talent has been deprived of our eyes and hearts.
I absolutely had to read this a 5/5 stars I will say this is one of the greatest books I have read so far this year definitely in my top three

I am reeling after finishing Gunpowder. My brain is scrambled in all the best ways after reading it. Asa Violet blew it out of the water with their debut book. Congratulations on Gunpowder, it's a masterpiece.
This book was so complex. From the characters, to the world building around the gangs, to the mystery that shrouded the whole book. My heart was in my throat the entire time. You never knew what was coming. There were so many twists and turns, it was impossible to predict. It kept me on the edge of my seat. The thrill, the fear, and the tears were all worth it.
Blair and Wren are beautiful together. Two young men, a hurt and broken medical student and a gang defender determined to show him he is capable of feeling. Blair is so real. His experiences were raw. You could feel his emotions jumping from the page. There was no dramatizing him as a big, tough gang member. Blair was just human. He felt fear, anxiety, love, pain, anger, joy, peace, and I felt every emotion with him. Blair's character was such a breath of fresh air. He was real. Tangible. His growth as a person was astounding. Blair was willing to go to the ends of the earth, to the very end, for Wren and his family. It was beautiful and I fell more in love with Blair every page.
Wren, my sweet broken love. This young man made me cry. An upbringing that conditioned him to believe he was incapable of feeling, the idea implanted in his brain that the only thing left for him was pain. Until a bullet wound on a small redhead's thigh brought it all crumbling to the ground. Wren spoke to me. The way you could actually feel his hollowness at the beginning of the book, and slowly, chapter by chapter watch him emerge as the precious soul he truly is. This snarky genious found love and discovered that pain wasn't the only thing left for him in the world. And maybe, just maybe, he found a family in a place he least expected them.
The slow burn in Gunpowder was delicious! The tension simmered off every page. And the spice... omg. It was incredible. Blair and Wren were magic. The touch him and die dynamic was heartwarming in every dark and sweet way. Their chemistry was off the charts hot. Don't let slow burn turn you away. This book had all of spicy goodness and the most touching romance. The side characters were magnetic in their own right. This story was so well thought out. The attention to detail was impeccable. The whole book was explosive and multidimensional. Gunpowder was an incredible read and I know it's a book I will reread over and over again. This book was an astounding 5/5. No doubt about it, this book is going on my all time favorites list.

This book was a breath of fresh air. It's unlike anything I've read in a while, the whole vibe and the writing... it just somehow feels different from a lot of the stuff out there. In a good way. It reminded me a bit of an anime or manga which I love. Even though this book is told in 3rd POV which isn't my favorite, I got used to it after a while and the writing made up for it!
Blair is such a sweetheart even though he's in a gang. As soon as he meets our other MMC, Wren, he can't stop thinking about him and another chance encounter brings them closer together, even though Wren tries his damndest to keep his distance. I loved his character! His retorts had me laughing out loud. As someone who can't really feel anything other than pain, it was so interesting to see him open up more and more to Blair and start to care for him. I loved that he was rude to everyone but Blair because Blair is the only one he trusts. In a way he reminded me a bit of a child when it came to the relationships, because he was so new to the type of feelings that Blair evoked in him. It was adorable and I just wanted to give him a big hug. As for Blair...he was so patient and understanding with Wren...ofc he fell for Blair.
The burn was slow but it never felt dragged out, it just evolved naturally, as well as their feelings toward each other. I expected the book to be darker because of the gang elements, but it turned out relatively light. Blair's gang is kinda "nice" lol but I really liked the side characters, I was rooting for all of them. This is a duology, which I'm really excited about. I also really want a book for Felix and Reymond pls 👀

July 10, 2024I am struggling to settle on a star rating for this ARC so I’m just going to share my thoughts.
There were elements of the book I really enjoyed, especially in the second half, and are absolutely 4 star moments. The tension during the gang war scenes was nail bitingly palpable. The humour was cutting and well placed. I thought the overall concept was excellent and unique to things I’ve read in the past. The spice was great, especially the scene where Blair took control, I thought this was really well done, showing the reader how their dynamic was changing and giving us the first notably sweet moment between our main characters.
However, I struggled a lot with the motives of the characters. I didn’t understand why Blair was in Incindious, and I never felt his reasoning or loyalty were genuine, especially his relationship with Felix. I couldn’t work out the inner dynamics of the gang, how old everyone was etc and so it didn’t make sense to me that Blair was so high up the chain. Given what we were told of Blair’s home life, I couldn’t get a sense of why he would join a gang and become an arms dealer. It almost made more sense to me for Wren to be the gang member (although I did enjoy his character arc more).
Wren felt like a more fleshed out character, even though we had less insight into his POV. But I would have loved more early on POV from him to understand what his life was like before he met Blair.
There were some plot points that I found unnecessary and took me out of the story, and they were never really addressed again (Blair’s brothers illness, Marie’s boyfriend, Adam & Nolan). I was also a little confused by mentioned of Wren being socially anxious, and then having a panic attack. He was portrayed as a cold and unfeeling person, so I didn’t think the two sat well together, and it was also never really addressed?
So I’m very torn. I thought parts were brilliantly written and vivid, but other parts didn’t feel fully fleshed out for me.

When the two discover there’s more to their relationship than physical chemistry, the challenges really start. Will Wren adapt to Blair’s lifestyle? Will Blair get Wren to open up? What happens when a brewing war with a rival gang reaches its boiling point?
My thoughts
- I LOVED Wren so much. His witty remarks and his unbothered attitude made me fall in love with his character. Wren had me cackling out loud multiple times with his comebacks! He is also so deliciously possessive of Blair and just wants to OWN him. 🥵
- Blair had so much contrast in his personality. He’s a ‘criminal’ but also has some extremely innocent vibes. I almost felt like Wren had more personality traits of an arms dealer than Blair, but I think this is what made them so complex as characters but also balance each other so well.
- The spice was SIZZLING 🥵🥵 but the plot was there! Wren and Blair connected on more than just a physical level. There were ups and downs in the relationship, a dash of angst, and a storyline to keep you interested!

ARC REVIEW
While I wouldn't call this a slow burn, as based on the timeline the two MMCs are sleeping together within weeks of meeting each other, I was captivated by this story.
I generally dislike 3rd person POVs because I find it hard to keep track of the characters and the style lends more to telling than showing, but this story universe is intriguing and was written well. There are some small grammatical errors (expected in ARC copies that I will be passing onto the author) but I enjoyed seeing the relationship develop alongside the gang war. There were some twists that will keep you on your toes (unless you had ADHD spidey senses that tingle straight away!)
Couple of small issues for me:
Based on Blair's own descriptions of his sexuality, he gives the vibe off that he is demi-sexual. The progression of this relationship from meeting each other, through to them consumating the relationship felt rapid. As I stated before, this was described as a slow burn, but slow burn for me is the main couple not getting intimate until well into 60-70% of the way through the book. These two had sex at around the 40% mark which I find is standard for most romances I read.
I would have liked more insight into Wren's experiences with his father. It's obvious they have a big impact on Wren in the present, considering his first POV is him having a 'conversation' with his father. I want the back story there.
Some of the gang behaviours had me scoffing - riding a very conspicuous motorbike and not having the rival gang find Blair, constantly parking their obvious vehicles in public, a 21year-old being in charge of the defence of the whole gang (who has never killed someone). I also feel like Blair/Wren never wore helmets when riding on said motorcycle.
For a debut novel, this was great. I can't wait for part 2 of the duology (and I am hoping it's from Reymond and Felix's perspectives).

I’ve been intrigued with Gunpowder ever since the author started posting spoilers.
The premise is so unique. On paper, you’d think it would be darker than dark, but there are some heartwarming moments and levity as Blair and Wren banter through fateful meetings.
It starts with an gunshot, and sunshiny gang member Blair meets grumpy med student Wren as he’s finishing his trauma rotation.
Wren’s bedside manner is atrocious. But he’s used to being the smartest person in the room and doesn’t care. I love a cranky man with a ponytail and glasses. He’s blunt, obsessively focused, and has a riveting backstory. I adored him!
And Blair. He’s the cuddliest arms dealer you’ll ever meet. But this fun-sized dynamo manages to do bad things and still be a charming young man who loves and protects his younger brother.
I loved how fate kept throwing them together. And somehow wary Blair begins to trust Wren, and closed-off Wren begins to let Blair in.
Their story will have you spinning, and the twists are so cleverly done. When a major betrayal happened, I remember thinking “Well played!”
The third person POV worked for me, and I really enjoyed Asa’s writing style. It’s atmospheric, expressive, and totally unique. These two men had more in common than they’d care to admit, and were each other’s destiny. As the story hurtles to its pulse-pounding conclusion, you’ll be in awe of how skillfully it’s done.
Fingers crossed part two includes more of Felix and Doc!

Wren and Blair 🖤🩶
This book instantly sucked me in.
Blair is hurt during a meeting gone wrong, and ends up in the hospital where he meets Wren, a grumpy student doctor. Their interaction isn't the greatest, but who cares, they aren't going to see each other again.
That is until their paths end up crossing again by some odd chance.
These 2 are so different, complete opposites in life, but work together so well. I absolutely loved their story. Both MCs experience so much growth and are there for one another no matter what.
This book was a slow burn start, but once it got heated up, it definitely took off. Some plot twists you are not expecting, and the ending had me on the edge of my seat and palms a little sweaty.
Now I need more Felix and Doc, please and thank you!

It's not often that I'm floored by a debut novel. The way this was written, the captivating plot, and the layered characters had me surprised that this is the first published novel from this author. Things that I often have a hard time with in books didn't bother me here, like the 3rd person POV. It just worked. I liked the mystery around Wren, although I would have liked a little more insight into his life and experiences with his father, but that could have been revealed with a conversation, not necessarily his POV. This isn't necessarily a slow-burn in the truest sense, but following the emotions of the characters, the timeline made sense. With the heaviness of the background plot of the gang war between Incindious and Phantom, the relationship between Blair and Wren was so adorable. In all the hardness of their lives, they were so soft for each other. I had a lot of fun reading this, and I fell in love so fast. This ends on the tiniest of cliffhangers, so I'm excited for what the next book has in store for us.

First off, I want to thank Asa Violet for the opportunity to read this book early.
This is easily in my top 5 of the year so far!
Blair and Wren are the perfect definition of opposites attract. Blair is emotionally driven, desperate to feel a sense of worth and belonging and purpose. Also, a total bad*ss and member of the Insidious Gang.
Wren is numb, broken and uses his dry humor as a defense. He’s tall, brooding and handsome. Oh, and he happens to be the 4th year med student who patches up Blair after a bad deal.
Their story is captivating, heart warming and tear jerking.
Asa is such a talented writer, and I felt emotionally connected to all the characters in this story. Asa brought real life to the pages and i cannot sing enough praise for how absolutely phenomenal this beautiful piece actually is.
I literally lowered my kindle, and starred at the ceiling just reeling over this masterpiece. And then quickly gushed about it to my husband.
I cannot wait to see what Asa comes up with next! 🥹🫶🏼

ARC Review
I was immediately drawn in by the premise of this book. Blair is young man in a gang in New York City who meets Wren, a medical student with a past and a scorching case of social unawareness. The story is quick-paced and action packed. The love story of Blair and Wren is set amidst a turf war between Blair’s gang and a rival gang.
I found the writing to very solid. I am one who enjoys 3rd person POV more than dual POV. At times, the writing felt a bit juvenile for the subject matter, but not enough to distract me from the action.
The plot was captivating. I was impressed by how intricate some of the plot points were and how they were pulled off.
The spicy parts were extra steamy and well-written.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I’m glad to have taken part in the arc process for Gunpowder. I hope the author is already writing the sequel. They have a lot to be proud of with their debut here.

Wren and Blair are as different as can be. Blair is warm-hearted. After his family no longer needed him, he found a new one in Incindious, a gun-running gang.
Wren is a cold-hearted, sarcastic medical student whose only drive is to learn new things and look at everything from a logical, objective perspective.
When the two meet, a beautiful, if bumpy, relationship develops.
Asa manages to weave a compelling story with her complex world-building and by involving the reader in the emotional world of the characters. The plot is suspenseful, the erotic scenes very spicy and the twist at the end keeps you on the edge of your seat until you've finished the book.
While the book has a HEA, and can be read as a stand alone, I'm desperate for the next book in the duet . I love Asa's writing style and will definitely read everything she writes.

Here's my honest review on Gunpowder.
I found myself falling in love with Blair Kennedy and Wren Masters! 😍
Blair Kennedy is a member of a gang who got shot in the leg. Then he meets Wren Masters, a med student who crosses his path and stitches his leg. Fate keeps pulling them together and they ended up dating and falling in love. Wren was my favourite character, adorably grumpy with a sarcastic mouth that only Blair could handle.
Asa Violet's writing was smooth and beautiful, the plot was captivating, complex and well-written and it kept me on edge of my seat. I think I'm in love with Asa's style of writing. Kudos to Asa for bringing this wonderful piece of work into the world.
I had a lot of fun reading Gunpowder, the dynamics between the two MCs were awesome. Their interaction was cute and adorable. Some scenes had me rolling around in my bed.

ARC Review - I loved this story. I was immediately drawn to this book when I read the synopsis. It sounded so different and interesting and I was not disappointed.
Blair and Wren have an amazing grumpy/sunshine chemistry from the moment they meet. Blair was such a caring and sweet character. The love and protectiveness he shows for his biological and found family was so touching.
Wren really stole the show for me. His wit, sarcasm and general ‘I don’t care’ attitude hooked me from the start and had me laughing much of the time. His character development throughout the book had me eating this story up.
The plot is well thought out with good pacing and the spice was definitely spicing. The ending absolutely left me wanting more.

Wow what a debut novel from this author. I really hope there is more to come from this story. All I could think of all the way through was how amazing of a movie this would make or a tv series. It is so well written and there were a few twists and turns throughout that I did not see coming. Towards the end of the story I was trying to fight back tears so I could finish reading, the end few chapters were so filled with suspense and raw emotion I couldn't handle it, and blubbered like a baby 🙈 and let's take a moment to acknowledge the spice....I'd say it is a 🌶️🌶️🌶️/🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ so for those whole love spice and MM romance novels, you will love this book. It is a slow burn but at the same time the story is fast paced and when it is slowed down, it is very deliberate and beautifully done. Cannot wait to see what is to come next from this author and thank you for the opportunity to read it.

Okay, this one was different for me. It was dark and gritty, and I absolutely loved it. Wren and Blair... gosh, I just adore them. I am excited to see where their story goes in the future. Blair, he is such a cutie for being a gang member. Wren, I feel like I related a lot to him. Shutting off your emotions can be so safe, but it can also prevent you from living. I loved Wren's character development so much. I hope we get more of his POV in the second one!
Never thought I'd love gang members, but here we are. The Incindious members and their relationships with one another were fantastic. Side note: Reymond is a real one lol
Not to spoil anything, but the twists! 👏👏👏 all the applause to Asa for those!

Oh I love Blair and Wren. They are such opposites, but they work so well together. The book as a whole is sweet and dark. If you’re a fan of the All For The Game series, this is definitely for you.
The slow burn is great, you spend a good portion of the book just itching for them to get together. The reader gets little morsels of the MMCs together, and they’re lovely and delicious and yet, never enough. (When I learned there will be a book two, I jumped up and down).
I also loved the storyline, the rival gangs, the backdrop of violence. It’s such a contrast to their relationship which is quiet and sweet and slow progressing. The suspense is great and the culminating action at the end will leave you at the edge of your seat.
Can't wait to see what's next for Blair and Wren and the rest of the group!

I loved how sarcastic Wren was throughout the book! He was kind of reminding me of Loren Hale and every single person knows how much we love lo! Oh and also the way Blair Kennedy was so observant.

Tbh this would have been so much better if the doctor guy was the villain. I mean come on he is suddenly a software computer something something only to help them?
Also he should have been better at fighting.
I hated the whole gang. And when gang guy finally decides to quit the gang doctor says no. Arg.
So obviously I will read the second book. This one wasn’t lacking and I hope it will get better. I doubt it.

Gunpowder is the first book by Asa Violet and it was a fantastic debut. This is a grumpy/sunshine, slow burn book about Blair and Wren. This is a wonderfully written book that grabbed my attention from the start and I can not wait for the second part of this.
