Aria, the fae princess of Allar, harbors a deep resentment for the Denover shifters across the border. That includes Luka—the arrogant dragon shifter and son of Denover’s most powerful political leader.
When their volatile god, Mallium, reveals a threat to the entire continent, Aria and Luka must decide to put aside their families’ troubled history and work together to save their people from a common enemy.
Forced to rely on their family and friends—including Luka’s second in command and alluring ex, Evelyn—Aria and Luka must navigate their intense emotions, confront their own prejudices, unravel the dark secrets that bind them, and challenge the traditions that keep them apart.
Together, they embark on a perilous quest to unite their fractured realms and bring harmony to their people—or risk meeting an untimely demise.

A mix of romance, spicy, adventure, and original epic fantasy! Incredible queer/nonbinary representation. Enemies to lovers and why choose- seriously something for everyone.
I had the privilege of reading an ARC for this novel. It is smartly written, funny, sexy, relatable, and compelling. It focuses on character development, and leads multiple characters through realistic growth. The world building is there for you to gradually explore a deep new world and doesn't have the "just get through the first 100 pages" issue.
Mostly, it's a fun, exciting romance that has a plot!
A bit disappointed with this one unfortunately. Out of 530ish pages, I was ready to be done by about page 300. Glad I finished it, but definitely wouldn’t recommend. - Writing was rough - Absolutely no conflict/everything was too simple - Character development was not great
i would like to thank the author for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
when i saw this email pop in my inbox i was beyond intrigued and interested in the premise of this world, a queer normative world following fae and animal shifters. wracked with (elemental) magic, political intrigue, and an even unique religious entity that brings the characters’ known worlds to a slamming halt.
this indie debut shows promise for such an beautiful and successful future for this author. the book follows three main perspectives, one of our main girl and her two companions who have importance to the plots events in their own rights. i think anya places one-off perspectives very well into this story, giving us small insights into the minds of minor characters surrounding aria, our true main girl. they’re people who have importance to her world view and to her actions, and it gives us little tidbits and insights into their motivations without overwhelming us by having 5+ point of views. i think the way the perspectives moved between our characters was done so well that i was equally invested in each storyline. and whenever we switched perspectives as much as i wanted to know more from the character we were following, i was still very happy to be seeing more from another’s events.
while it was a bit slow going in the beginning, once we started having more interaction between the characters the pace truly started to pick up and i became more and more invested in the over-arching story. of these characters trying to go past their differences to fight a greater evil. i still have so many questions for why their battle even started (according to their shared god), of some lore that was introduced but never completely answered, and of the end scene between aria and luka. i think it was implied well enough that there’s a chance of a sequel for these characters. and i hope to see it, to get some answers and learn more of this world’s history!
in some parts while it was obvious that this was a debut since some storylines were a bit simplified, i think it shows such strong foundations for this author. i can’t wait to see her work grow, to see what she has in store. and i will be highly anticipating what’s next!
Omg! Of course it ends with a cliff hanger! Lol This book was so great. The enemies to lovers, on multiple fronts, and how open minded sexuality was, was so different and yet so great. The tension between Aria and Luka…and then Evelyn? Oh my lanta, it was a tizzy and a beautiful one too 🥵🥵 ya girl had my crying a bit at the end too, cheez its. Definitely want to read the next book!! I received this ebook in a giveaway and I am so happy to have been given this treasure. I need more!!!
If you like romantasy then you should definitely read this book. Bonus you’re supporting a local author who is just starting out. Looking forward to the sequel.
I wanted to like this book, but the plot just was not executed well imo. I was in the final chapters before hardly any action happened, so it felt like the whole thing was just talking and a setup for a threesome. When we finally got to the final battle it was anticlimactic, and anyone that was actually quite injured were characters without emotional attachment. I thought it really had potential with the initial chapters, but disappointing nonetheless.

Anya created such a beautiful world with inclusive characters every reader will connect with in some way. This book will make you feel it all! It's creative, smart, romantic, dark, funny, sexy, exciting, and suspenseful.
I'm not typically drawn to fantasy, so I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next. I think it's because the author is a master at character development. As you learn surprising secrets and watch dynamic friendships and relationships build - you will be cheering them, cursing them, and embracing them all along the way. I felt part of their world and missed them the minute I finished it.
Overall, this is a well-written and entertaining read for fans of multiple genres.
I will start by saying that I have not read any of the ACOTAR books... but this is what I imagine them to be like. If that is indeed the case, I can understand their popularity. This is an epic fantasy story involving fae and shifters - specifically dragon, wolf, and panther shifters. This is my first time encountering wolf and panther shifters in this sort of setting; I would more expect to see them in an Urban Fantasy type of story. There's nothing at all wrong with it, and the book doesn't take any great pains to explain it. I can accept it as the mythos of this universe.
The characters really drive this story. They all have very distinctive personalities and are all interesting in their own way. There is also a great deal of representation within the book. One character is deaf, another uses they/them pronouns, and several of them have lovers of multiple genders. None of it has any special attention drawn to it, which I appreciate.
Overall, the writing style is very good. There is definitely a romance/spice aspect to the book, but the plot doesn't suffer for it. There are some spicy scenes which are well-written but also don't drag on overly long. I had no objections to them, but for readers that might, the author provides a content warning at the front of the book detailing which chapters to avoid.
The history, the mythos, and the inciting incident of the story are all very well developed. There were also some great surprises and plot twists thrown in. I won't get into them for fear of spoilers.
My only real struggle with this story was the pacing. This is a healthy book, clocking in over 500 pages, and a good deal of it consists of political intrigue, introspection, and interpersonal drama. I have no problems with any of that, but it felt like there were a few scenes that could be pared down or even omitted entirely to improve the overall flow.
Having said that, the climactic battle is quite thrilling and resolves the primary conflict in an entertaining way. There are some real stakes involved too - not everyone gets through it unscathed. As other reviews have noted, it ends on a cliffhanger, and I would happily pick up the next in this series to see where it's going next!
Thank you to Anya Keeler for sending me this book! It is always such an honor to read a writers work and I just appreciate you reaching out to me. I am so excited for you and what is to come!
This book holds a lot of great tropes like: enemies(rivals) to lovers why choose found family
I love all of those things and I loved seeing them incorporated into the story. I also really loved how diverse the book was as well! All of the different sexualities, pronouns was spot on and not something I see often in the romantasy genre. I liked that they were also not made to be a big deal. That gets annoying and I just loved how it was normal(because hello it is and it should be). I really loved that this book has a solid plot. It is straight forward and I think the author did a great job at making the plot the main focus while still adding those romance aspects.
I did have a few issues with this book that made it hard for me as a reader to want to keep reading. I think that Aria(she is 29) read very immature to me and I was getting annoyed. Before anyone comes at me, I do realize she is fae and they live for a very long time(she was also very sheltered), so these all play a roll into how she is, but I just found it annoying and I really wanted more from her. I would have loved more showing of her powers vs telling. My other biggest issue is that for most of the book they are traveling from place to place and it just got very repetitive. I am all for a build up in a fantasy book, but I found that all the traveling made the book feel boring when there could have been some really great action in there. When we do get to the end and finally hit the pinnacle of the book it was resolved very quickly. I was hoping for more and left feeling disappointed.
Overall, it is a solid debut novel and I think that there is a lot of amazing growth that could happen to make the second book even better.
I have to speak on both the things I enjoyed and disliked to explain my rating.
Positives: Plot: I enjoyed how the plot was the main focus throughout the book, often times when reading spicy romantasy books the plot comes secondary and as a reader you can feel lost. I can say that the plot was still at the forefront of this book and not just an afterthought.
I loved the characters in this book. The author included a variety of characters that readers could relate to and broke some societal molds. I love that the female characters were strong and not just helpless as is common in this genre, and in some cases they were the ones in charge in the bedroom, unafraid of their sexuality, which one can appreciate. The author uses pronouns throughout the story for a specific character and I enjoyed that.
Things I did not enjoy as much. I would have liked to see the plot expanded upon, I felt like the book contained so much detail on the side quests and spent a ton of time flying and traveling from one place to another for about 70% of the book. I was exhausted for them. I wish this time were invested in plot development instead of the book was as long as it was. I’ve seen this with Lauren Roberts’ Reckless and A Court This Cruel and Lovely series, so it’s not uncommon for authors to get lost in details only to realize just how daunting it can make the story feel.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, I appreciate that there wasn’t just gratuitous smut everywhere, instead the spice was a part of the story and not the other way around. I would recommend it but of course, just like the author would caution the trigger warnings first.

2.5 Stars I received an ARC of this book after a request from the author.
This is a very strong debut novel, but it is still a debut. The writing was well done, but not as stylized as a more veteran author would produce. My early copy also had a lot of punctuation errors but that will likely to be fixed for print.
Aria is a very easy to like FMC and in fact all the characters are likeable, for better or worse their flaws all seem endearing and don't cause any.real conflict. I'm not a huge fan of the "why choose" troupe but I did think the example of ethical polyamory was important to be made. The overall story was compelling, a classic story of Big Bad requiring the setting aside is old prejudices to work together. A lot of the world building was literally geographic, as there is a lot of traveling back and forth. The magic systems remained (purposefully?) vague, which I didn't mind. It felt like many times a big issue was very easily solved within the span of a conversation- while seeing communication was nice, sometimes it didn't feel realistic that these conversations all ended so well. Overall I did enjoy the story and think the writing can only get stronger and look forward to more from this author.
Thank you so much to the author for sending me an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book so much! I was drawn in right from the start and every time I had to put it down I couldn’t wait to be back with these characters.
Aria was such a brilliant main character. She was fierce and determined but also kind and considerate. Such a perfect balance.
Luka and Evelyn were both such alluring love interests. While I was a bit more invested in Evelyn, I will admit to being grateful for another love triangle turned throuple (of sorts). The three of them were just fantastic together, absolutely oozing with chemistry in every interaction.
The found family vibe between our core characters has my whole heart in all honesty. I loved that Aria found her people and that she got to keep them.
I LOVED the complicated politics at play here, and each new reveal just added another layer to these peoples history. I really appreciated the attention to detail and the complex emotions that drove certain decisions.
If you’re looking for your next rich romantasy read, I can’t recommend this enough. I NEED a sequel stat!
A plotty book with smut and a smutty book with plot. As it's alpha reader I really felt it was my beta, but as it's beta reader... it showed me what it meant to be an alpha. In fact I'd gladly be this books omega.
In all seriousness, it doesn't shy from showing a world where all types exist, all loves are accepted, and all alpha-esque men are fond of kneeling before their lady (without really making it like something they deserve a pat on the back for... like what? Gold star bud?). I appreciate that a world was built and a plot was THOROUGHLY mapped out with the romance given natural space to develope. The battles have consequences and no one feels the need to shag before, during, or after.
It's a sweet story about growing up and taking responsibility, it's a tough story about how your parents may secretly be kind of twats even though they try their best, and it's a authentic story of building trust, love, and friendships.
Coming into this book I felt like the romance fantasy genre may be over saturated with the same stories, so imagine my delight when I found a unique story to get lost in. It was my first look into a gender fluid fantasy world, and it just felt so seem-less for me.
It is partially a coming of age story for Aria and Luka. They are learning that the old prejudices they were taught may not be as they seem.
It feels like the character arcs were organic. Between trying to figure out who they are, and figuring out how they put old biases behind them to work together, the characters seem to come to life before your eyes. Every reader can find a character to relate with. I think the author does a great job pulling us in with emotions, and delivers us sorrow, joy, love, lust, and a bit of humor. There is truly something for everyone. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
The Sound of Storms is a solid debut novel. The story is original and well executed. The representation in this book is unmatched in my reading experience. The world is queer-normative, sex positive, body positive and the disability representation avoids tokenism. The story is well paced and sucks you in from very early on. The world building and politics are complex and fun to read. The romance is fun and spicy as hell! My only complaint is that apart from the sex scenes this book reads as very YA. The dialogue is fairly immature and the stakes felt pretty high, but the wrap up was a little too clean and easy. Overall I would definitely recommend this book to fantasy readers who love fae and shifters. The spice is written well and very hot. I'm excited to see what Anya Keeler comes up with next!
3.5/5. Easy to follow world building. Somewhat predictable but still had me excited to keep reading. There was a LOT of traveling between places in this story which got a little repetitive. The battle and the ending felt a little rushed and abrupt, but I’m interested to see what happens next in book two!
I’m normally all about multiple POVs BUT there were almost too many in this story to where I would get confused on whose POV I was reading/listening to. Vera was my least favorite POV and I found myself skimming hers when they came along.
The love story was fun, but felt a little crowded. Didn’t love Evelyn from the drop so her involvement in the love story wasn’t my favorite. I was fully on board with Luka as the love interest tho. Also really liked our non-binary character friend and that their sexuality wasn’t a focus of the story, just an integrated part of it.
Aria is a Fae who lives in a world where Fae and Shifters are at odds. Centuries old grudges and hate have divided the continent. A cryptic message arrives from a God telling the two groups that they must unite or die.
It’s hard to find good Pan/Bi representation. I really appreciated that about Aria’s character.
Luka was just a soft romantic and I hope it keeps working out for him! I kind of wanted to protect him in a snuggly blanket nest so he had no more hurts! He’s my favorite.
I do feel like I wanted a deeper emotional connection to the characters that I couldn’t find. I would love to see more of their personal flaws be explored as the series progresses.
I thought the plot was such a good idea and still is! Honestly there were just some things going on against my values and just what I want to read in a book! The writing style was not the greatest. Like I was really confused why this whole royal family just stopped for dinner at a guards families home for like 5 minutes. I also read a review from someone else and sexual love triangles are just not my thing and just not something I want to read about!

This book had so much in it & i could not put it down some days because i wanted it to keep going. There is some spice, there's romance, and there is fantasy with dragons, fae, and shifters. Then they're on adventures, and that cliffhanger ending?! So good, and I'm so glad i got the chance to read this because I'm already Psyched for what's coming next!
Got the chance to be a beta reader for this book and quickly became enamored with it! I think Keeler does a great job of creating a lush and descriptive tapestry of places and characters, and the variety of representation is excellent and never felt anything other than authentic. It was a fun world to escape into. I can't wait for the next book from this author!
Beautifully written! Anya created such an interesting world with deep characters, found family, inclusion and acceptance. Hard to believe this is Anya’s debut novel! Already fiending for book two!
I typically am not into fantasy, but this story had the perfect amount of romance, spice, thrill, and action. I fell in love with the characters and thoroughly enjoyed the book until the end!
If you like romance and fantasy this book is a MUST!! easily one of my favorites of the year. It hooks you from the start and all of my favorite romance tropes are in here!!! The BANTER *chefs kiss*. There were so many times I was kicking my feet and couldn’t put it down.
Also it’s clear early on that all of the characters are well thought out and have more to them that I hope gets explored in the next book. One of my favorite things about it too, was the pacing. I never felt dragging or that any of the chapters were just “filler” time. Even when the group is traveling I feel like there is continuity that develops the story and the relationship between characters.
I had the pleasure of being a BETA reader and I was so glad I didn’t have to pretend to love it! I recommend it to my friends and I need the next one like NOW.
The Sound of Storms was such a FUN read. I think only being able to read an hour or two a night for this book was what Mallium truly wanted, because I enjoyed every second of this read.
I AM A WORLDBUILDING GIRLY so if you are the same, I feel like you will enjoy this book as well! There’s a lot of banter, travel, battle prep, character reveals, and a lot a lot a lot of inner dialogue from multiple POV’s! 🖤
And can we talk about the queer rep in this book??? Organic, real, and needed in this world. I love Taren with my whole being and they are definitely going on the list of favorite side characters 🫶🏼 also maybe I’m just a little in love with Evelyn, it’s fine.
LOVE TRIANNGLEEEEE! These characters had so much chemistry in every interaction and while I found myself rooting for one and then the other, by the end I definitely turned into a “why choose” 😛
Tropes: Enemies to lovers, queer rep, why choose, battle prep, found family, cliffhanger, and more.
I’m giving this storm ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and I cannot wait for the sequel!!!! PLSSSSS I NEED IT
