For amateur star gazers who only devote, say, 20% of their time looking up at the night sky, this book might not be the most helpful. Spend a little more time and it may, otherwise get a copy of the simple but effective book, Know the Stars, aka Find the Constellations by H.A. Rey. It's really difficult to put the night sky on paper. The 3D effect, however, works very well! For 3D fans, you need this book. One will need some big paper clips or rubber bands to keep the book open while 3D gazing. You really feel like you're outside while looking at this 3D Star Maps indoors. Some of the 2D star maps are helpful, and lots of text and color photo's make this an interesting read. The bottom line, really, is the more star gazing books the star gazer has, the better!
