This was a very short, but memorable piece of horror fiction. I particularly enjoyed the themes surrounding family and revenge. Personally, I found the narrative was quite predictable. As someone who has read a lot of horror, I've seen this particular ending several times. Yet, it's an ending I enjoy so I cannot be too critical. Overall, this was a quick, gut punching story.

I would recommend this one to people looking for a short gruesome story with some emotional weight.

This book will always hold a very special niche in my heart because this is the first time an author has dedicated one of his books to me. I can't thank you enough in words my dear friend Ratna for such an honour. You are one gem of a person and I'm so glad to have met you here.

'Comeuppance' is the author's first novelette which falls under the horror genre and is also his fifth publication. The plot revolves around a small family comprising of a husband, wife and a kid who goes on vacation but then an uncanny incident takes place on their way which transforms their lives forever. The story truly justifies the title 'comeuppance' which means retribution that is rightfully deserved.

It was such an amazing experience to read books of diverse genres from the same author. I cherished his first book 'Smörgåsbord of musings' wholeheartedly and I loved this one no less. The moral of this story is that "what goes around, comes around", which is very well communicated by involving some paranormal elements. Once again the author has captured a surf of emotions that took my breath away. I was left numb at the end, that's how terrific he pens down.

If you are going through a reading slump then this will certainly take you out of it. Hope you all give this the love it deserves.

Happy Reading 📚

The Colemans haven't gone on a vacation for long, so they embark upon a roadtrip. But we know it's a horror story, so they're doomed as hell!

Oh this creepy novella! A crazy hell of a vacation. What have you made Rathna! How am I supposed to sleep anymore when I've read your book at 1am in the night?

This book has everything- the intrigue of a thriller, a wave of emotions and painful moments that made it a bit harder to read through at a point.

The story is well-crafted, easy and short to read, I finished it within 40 minutes and then this amazing story left me restless for the rest of the night. Only a short book of just 90 pages, the book has much to offer, including Rathna's first published work, the prize-winning piece of flash fiction, Elevator that is just as creepy as this one!

PS: Thank you for dedicating your book to me. You don't know how much it means to me, it's truly an honour and I'm glad to have a friend like you. Despite of that, the review is unbiased!

After the thrilling short story Elevator, the warm hug that is Smörgåsbord of Musings, the adorable Catch Me, ‘Cause I’m Falling and the stunningly painful Les Cicatrices, you would assume that that’s all there is to the marvel that is Rathnakumar Raghunath. An excellent storyteller, a brilliant writer, an exceptional human being and a powerhouse of talent, Rathna, in spite of all the praiseworthy work in his name, has outdone himself with the horror story, Comeuppance, which is intriguing, spine-chilling, intelligently written and mindfully crafted.

A plot that is difficult to summarise without giving away spoilers, it is safe to say that Comeuppance is the story of the Coleman family, who decide to go on a vacation to a quaint and quiet cottage, after a long time. What awaits them on this trip is something that will leave the reader wanting to read the book fast, because there is so much that happens and the curiosity to know what will happen next is hard to suppress. But a small tip is to read it slowly and savour the incredible writing and brilliant storytelling. A story that will take you on a journey that is terrifying, painful, mesmerising and simply stunning all at once, Comeuppance is a medley of emotions starting from happiness to gratitude to fear and so much more.

A story that will have the reader on the edge their seat throughout, Comeuppance manages to take you on a rollercoaster of emotions from pity to sadness to happiness to fear and so much more. A superb tribute to his favourite horror writer, Stephen King, Comeuppance has a certain magical charm to it that calls for an extolment of Rathnakumar who has, after only two horror stories, made a mark for himself in the genre he calls his favourite.

The title of this book really intrigued me, Comeuppance means a punishment or fate that someone deserves. This is a story of the Colemans. They decide to go on a vacation after a long time. During the journey, their car unfortunately hits a wolf's pup which dies.

Unable to save it and do anything, they leave it and go forward. But Benji says that the wolf's eyes were bright and red! Benji was talking about another wolf watching the whole accident from the bushes! And then strange things start to happen at their cottage. Is the wolf following them? Will it take its revenge?

This book is a page turner, it has elements of horror and thrill. It has lots of drama and suspense. It will surely make you emotional if you are an animal lover. The ending was unpredictable. It is a short read which you can enjoy in one sitting. The title reflects the story nicely and the book is quite engaging to read.

Unveiling read

Fear, crime and thrill has a way to get back to the one who tries and stay away from all of it.
The very foundation on which the book is based over, hails from the scariest movies developed in early 90s in the film industry which does succeed in making the viewer shiver down, if watches the movie all alone in a dark night. I liked the book pretty much despite of the issues with writing style and repetitive format proposed through narration. Author has tried to showcase a clear cut tale where the reader could delve into the storyline and somehow connect with the characters.
The book length is quite acceptable based on how the story is set up for the reader to stay engaged until the end although the flaws do affect the pace of the reading session.

To have a bath into the fears, pick up the read over a dark night and try unveiling each of the pages which disclose things one after another.

- The title 'Comeuppance' means a punishment that someone deserves. This short horror-thriller story is based on it. A couple - Kate and Matt, along with their son, Benji, go on a vacation to a cottage. The journey begins with an unfortunate event that sets the pace of the story. The trip proves to be a completely different experience for them-they wanted to relax, but things take a turn for the worst.

- It is a spine-chilling and thrilling novella. The things the family goes through will keep the readers on the edge of their seats. The book is event-filled and unputdownable as page by page the curiosity to know increases.

- The author has expertly narrated the story, building up suspense. For a short story, it had a lot to offer. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it as the plot is unique and very intriguing. This is the first book that I have read by Rathnakumar Raghunath. It was definitely worth it.

Each page has something horrifying and alarming for the reader.I hope this doesn't come off as a spoiler, but you know this book's had an impact on you, when you're in the middle of attempting to kidnap the kittens the cat loitering in your apartment complex has given birth to but you're all of a sudden ridden with fear that the mama cat's going to knock on your door in the middle of the night and shred you and your family to a million pieces with her claws.

The well descriptive writing illustrate the story in head as the reader reads. Despite being a short tale, it's impact has truly turned out to be long lasting. To know what happened that made the ending of the book full of bloodshed, grap yourself a copy right now.

Well , if you want to travel barefoot in the gothic world picking up this book can be a great choice for you.

Without revealing much the cover is itself speaks enough what should be added in. Human life's are more precious than that of any other creatures; isn't it? Because who fears the howls of a voiceless...

The Coleman family with mutual understanding went amidst the nature to soothe their souls with livid crickets sounds. But a small incident took place which led them into such a dark path from where turning back wasn't a option.

To solve the mystery and to encounter the unforgivable mistake done by the family grab this book.

Heart racing thriller!!

Written by Rathnakumar Ragunath, this is an amazing thriller. This genre generally demands an extended plot and extensive personalities but this book is out of the box! It is simple yet precise and crisp.

The book keeps its readers hooked using powerful visual imagery. Author has portrayed various emotions in a well balanced manner with the help of bare minimum characters. Even though it is compact in nature, the story has provided significant moral justification.

Teeny tiny descriptions and the smooth writing flow are an added strength to the meticulously woven story.

This is the first book I have read by the author and I am definitely not disappointed.

I was completely taken aback by this book, 'comeuppance' by Rathnakumar. It has been brilliantly crafted and falls under the genre, thriller. A family that plans for a vacation at a resort goes through unexpected turns and twists. The visual imagery of the wolf and the hallucinations that the protagonist goes through are amazingly brought forward by the author. I would recommend this to people that enjoy short thriller plots !

The Colemans — Matt, Kate, and Benji — are on a short, unplanned trip to a friend's cottage (deep into the woods) to break the monotony of regular, boring city life.

Accidentally, Matt hits a wolf-pup, which dies on the spot. Both Matt and Kate are disturbed by the turn of events.

They console themselves and move the pup to the side of the road and continue their trip.

Suddenly, Benji tells his parents that he saw a big white wolf with bright red eyes in the woods.

They shoo his words away and warns him not to lie and proceed to the cottage and reach before midnight and settle in.

Soon, they hear the howling of a wolf from a nearby distance. This jolts their movement, and they are shell-shocked.

Matt then sees a giant of a bright white wolf with saddened and hurt face with blood-red eyes holding her dead pup in her mouth.

He immediately moves his wife and son to a safety of a room and goes single-handedly to protect his family from the beast, as he knows it's payback time for the Colemans to either survive or die.

What happens next is a bizarre, gothic, paranormal-inducing surreal yet engaging and interesting ride that will lead the readers to know whether or not Matt Coleman got his comeuppance in the end.

The author had kept the mood of the story uniform throughout with a bit of suspense, dark, spooky filling to a right proportion.

However, except for the final act, I did not feel the horror element being sustained completely. Also, I was expecting for a desi story, but the christianising of the characters waterdowned the tonality and believability — at least for me. Of course, author may write for an international audience but the characters can be desi — there's no harm, I suppose.

Overall, a brilliant attempt, and I would love to read a full-fledged horror novel from the author soon, which would be a fitting tribute to the master of horror — Stephen King.

Thriller is a peculiar genre and pretty much subjective as per the liking of the various different or distinct individual. There are so many definitions of what is scary.

We see that what might shock one reader is laughable to another and one might feel a chill go through their spine whilst reading a particular story whereas other may not even find it remotely likeable.

Hence, ‘Comeuppance’ by author Rathnakumar Raghunath was a tale that has the ability to shock each and every single reader alike and is absolutely something that will give us a fright.

The story begins with a car ride that the Colemans are taking. It has been ages since they were on a vacation. Matt, the patriach accidentally hits something and this turns out to be the turning point that will change everything.

No love is greater than the love of a mother, and we see just how powerful it is via this story as the lengths they will go to avenge their offspring is simply astonishing.

As it has been quoted, ‘‘Your Deeds Often Leave A Trail, For Your Comeuppance To Follow’’, hence it becomes interesting as to further delve into what was the root that caused the Colemans to experience all the things that they did in the story. I am going to give this book FIVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I read the author's first book - Smorgasbord of Musings last year and absolutely loved it. When he approached me to read and review his second book, I was quite delighted to read his work again and the title of the book intrigued me endlessly. When I googled comeuppance, it showed that the word means 'a punishment or fate that someone deserves.'

This is the story of the Colemans. Their family of three consists of Matt Coleman, his wife Kate Coleman and their son Benji Coleman. They haven't been on a vacation for a long time. You can only guess their joy when they get an offer to spend the weekend at a quaint little cottage outside of town. An unexpected twist of events on the way leads to something that will change their lives forever! But how and what? Read to know!

A story full of thrill, suspense and retribution, this book is a wonderful tribute to the master of horror - Stephen King! I enjoyed the sheer brilliance of the prose and the flawless and interesting manner in which the story progressed. Overall, quite a fast-paced and thought-provoking book!

Aren't we all aware of the concept of karma? We reap what we sow, which is why positive deeds are valued more.

The plot of Comeuppance centres around a couple and their son. They were tired with their everyday routine and decided to take a trip out of town, but what happened on the trip was unexpected to the family. What becomes of them? Will they be able to get home safely?

The narrative grabbed my attention till the very last page. This is a quick read that you can finish in one sitting. I couldn't put it down till I finished it. The conclusion was terrifying. Suspense was maintained to the very last page, and this book provided an incredible reading experience. After reading other books by the author, I had to pick this one up as well, and guess what? He didn't let me down. This is a novel that you should definitely read.

What is this? I'm disturbed seriously, is this even a story?

The Coleman family(matt- father, kate - mother, benji - child) is going on a trip to outskirts of city ,and they'll live in a beautiful cottage. Bt something happened on their way to the cottage. That something followed them till they reached their. And again something happened which was purely strange nd i don't knw i can't comprehend.

Well trigger warning- animal killing .
I don't what the author wants to convey writing this story i know it's fiction bt still. Whatever book has some errors too like had is written 2 times. The language is easy, cover is apt and the book is such a short read that you can finish it in half n hour.

It's ok you can read it once, bt personally i don't like it very much.

“to lose a child is unimaginably painful. and to see it happen in front of your eyes-"

Comeuppance is a short read of one story with a bonus one. The story revolves around a family Matte, kate and Benji who are going to a vacation after a long time to spend some quality time but on the way an accident changed everything. Matte hit to a wolf pup. But Benji saw something which has a white coat with bright red eyes. When they reached the cottage, they thought they were safe but the howl is so scary.

It's a very short read but in that short span of time, the description gave goosebumps. The narration is unexpectedly scary and the ending is more than any ending, it has left something to be deciphered by the reader. The bonus is mot less than the story itself.

The novel "Comeuppance" is written by Rathnakumar Raghunath. According to the title and cover page, the book has a fascinating and distinctive tale. Totally gripping.

The author has sought to show a clear story in which the reader may immerse themselves in the plot and relate with the characters.
Although the minor errors do impair the pace of the reading session, the book length is pretty reasonable depending on how the tale is built up for the reader to stay focused until the finish. The writing style is precise, making the plot feel like a movie.

I would advise every reader to have a check out Comeuppance, a horror thriller.

Book Review:

How would you feel when you have not been on a vacation for a really long time, yet, when you do, it changes your life forever? This is the story of the Coleman family - Matt, Kate and their son, Benji. And, all it took was a spontaneous vacation in a quaint cottage to change everything.

This is basically a short story riddled with suspense, thrill and horror. The build-up is quite enticing and captivating. However, the theme might not sit right with certain people. It did not for me, at least. However, I liked the execution of the story. It was not too stiff or lucid. It is a decent read for leisure. Happy reading!
