“Everyone should find someone to share their story with.”
Exhausted and burnt-out, singer-songwriter, Bea Thompson, needs a break and some space from her once-promising career as an indie musician. Seeking refuge from the crushing pressures of the industry, she books a last minute stay at a special childhood sanctuary, the birthplace of her most treasured friendship, Meadowbrook Ranch. She only hopes the boy she found in the hayloft all those years ago still lives there.
Over the years, lone cowboy, Samuel Taggart (Tag), has built a name for himself as a stock contractor for the rodeo circuit. Shackled by the trauma of childhood sexual abuse, he’s resigned himself to a life of solitude at Meadowbrook Ranch, working around the clock for the only family he’s ever been able to count on—the horses.
But one stormy night, an unexpected visitor upends his quiet life. The girl from the hayloft—his long term pen pal—is back, covered head to toe in mud, and excited to see him.
After spending years pouring his heart out through letters to Bea, finally seeing her again face-to-face sends his heart into lockdown.
Will he trust his old friend with the painful storms of his past, or will the rain prove that some souls are too far gone for love?
We Redeemed the Rain, is a contemporary romance set in Central Texas and the first installment of Meadowbrook Ranch—an emotional series about trauma, healing, and love amid crisis.
This is a gritty, hard-hitting, and emotional story. Ashley isn’t afraid to explore difficult subjects, and I thought the way she handled them was beautifully done with care and grace.
The first half of the book drew me right in. I was connected to both characters and their journeys. The second half felt less developed, with the romance overshadowing Bea’s songwriting and her reason for going to Meadowbrook Ranch, as well as Tag’s healing journey. At times, his healing seemed more tied to Bea, and I would have liked to see more individual growth.
I enjoyed the slow-burn romance and thought Bea and Tag had great chemistry, though aspects didn’t work as well for me. Some of the innuendos and the starburst scene, in particular, felt a bit cheesy and pulled me out of the story.
There is also more swearing here than in Ashley’s previous works. Early on, it fit the story and the realities of abuse, but as it went on, it began to feel a little over the top.
Overall, I liked following Bea and Tag, and the horses and ranch setting added a lot to the story. Ashley is incredibly talented, and I love how she isn’t afraid to tackle difficult themes.
Content to consider: childhood sexual abuse, language (100+ swear words including: S, A, H, D), moderate innuendos + heat, descriptive kissing (a suggestive “starburst” scene), mentions of sex and “second base,” a fade-to-black scene, PTSD, evidence of parental drug and alcohol use, child neglect (mentions of hunger, being locked in a closet, and physical marks on the body), mentions of self-harm and a past suicide attempt (off page), anxiety and panic attacks, cancer and seizures in a family member, and a reference to the universe.
This review is a long time coming. After reading this book very fast I needed some time to gather my thoughts. 💭
Once again Ashley has written characters who have captured my attention and heart. From the very first chapter I was drawn in and found it hard to put this book down. I was fully invested in watching these characters grow and learn how to love after unimaginable suffering.
This book is filled with heartbreak but the tone is ultimately filled with hope. Ashley has a way of weaving the gospel message of redemption and restoration into her contemporary romance books in such an effortless way. I’m always amazed by the beauty of her writing.
You may want to check trigger warnings!
Things I loved: -emphasis on the power of words and music to heal -being fully known, scars and all -weathering storms together (literally and figuratively) -grumpy/sunshine but not in a cliche way (these characters and their motivations feel genuine and organic) -stubborn and determined FMC -butterfly inducing romance (tenderness, angst, longing and tension) -starburst wrappers (IYKYK)
Favorite Quotes:
“Everyone alive deserves to choose someone and have someone choose them.”
“Part of me knew if I offered the love I had — as broken and scarred as it was — she would treasure it because it was mine.”
“It takes big, dedicated love to stay, to weather storms, to hunker down and ride them out together.”
Thank you so much Ashley for this eARC! All thoughts are my own.
This was a heavy hitter and an emotional read that also brought the infused sense of hope and healing. I thought the tough conversations and themes were handled with care and were genuine to the story and creating a beautiful romance between two people who deserved each other.
I loved the Texas ranch setting. Going to rodeos, riding horses and taking care of all of the things that pop up in-between. I enjoyed seeing Bea and Tag work together and how Bea constantly met Tag where he was, yet also let him know she was a safe place to land. This was one of those reads that had me shouting for them to kiss. The near moments were tangible and I loved loved loved the way the slow burn was crafted around needed conversations and rough and tender moments.
Incredible writing, all the cowboy content, and just a book I could NOT put down. I loved everything about this story and the message it created. I could comment on so many little plot decisions that made this book sing. It’s those small moments that bring a story home for me and gosh dang, I love Tag and Bea.
Ashely Dill is a MASTER at writing emotional, deep romances, which are my absolute favorite kind of romances to read. I love when characters come together to heal their trauma and become better people both individually and together. And I love when their love helps them view the world differently. It's so inspiring and heartwarming to read. This book has all of that, and it deeply touched my heart.
Love is patient and kind, and that's exactly the kind of romance that develops in this book. The characters are incredibly mature through very difficult times. But this romance also has a lightheartedness to it that had me snort-laughing at some parts. The beautiful love story will take you on a journey through all the emotions.
The cowboy vibes are PERFECT in this book too, and the writing is, of course, phenomenal. I was swept away and couldn't put it down! Highly recommend this beautiful romance.

Thank you, Ashely Dill, for the arc!
Trigger/Content Warnings: child sexual assault, child abuse, PTSD, side character with chronic health issues, suicide attempt, kissing/closed door
As someone who has read 173 books this year, this by far is one of the best books I have ever read. This book is a lot to process but it’s the most beautiful story.
Had the honor of beta reading this one. It definitely has a lot more hurt than I usually subject myself to, but there’s no faulting the soul-deep writing, the healing character arc, and the chemistry between these two! If you’re not a wimp like me, love a good Byronic cowboy and a sunshine heroine that will not back down, brace yourself and give this one a try!
Content notes: kissing-only on the steamy side. Trigger warnings galore—please read author’s note, it’s a lot.
This book is a journey, and it's tough at times. The opening might be off-putting for many, and it's something to steel yourself for, but the gradually unfolded story of Tag and Bea did contain a lot of beauty. Expect slooooow burn. My reservation with this story is: I don't feel a simplistic HEA does these characters justice. If you're going to write about a character with PTSD and trauma, then even though the story arc completes with the couple getting together, that's only the first step. The epilogue suggests there won't be a book 2 about Tag and Bea, but a different couple on this ranch, and this is a bugbear I have with romance series. It's like we love the hit of the chase and the relationship start, but we don't want to unravel the mess of what happens next and when someone no longer acts in a lovable way. Dill does this so well in The Blooms That Broke Us that I have to say I was disappointed with where this book ended. Obviously there's only so much you can fit in a book, so I don't want to judge it unfairly. My second reservation is: there's a lot of redemption in this book without a Redeemer. So for me, is this book suggesting that wholeness and healing are possible just from human love alone? Not sure what I think about that. It's not trying to be a religious book, at all, but that's where I fear there's a bit of a half gospel in it, which is no gospel at all. This book has a strong positive reception already, and I massively respect the author, so I don't want this to come across as a dampener. The writing is compelling and winsome, and I was not at all struggling to read this (minus the opening section of Tag's childhood). But it's a book that raises these important questions and issues, so I don't think I would be doing it justice to skip over my reservations and just give it five stars and a gushing accolade.
Ashley Dill has honestly become my favorite author. She tells stories in a way that speak to my heart and soul. I might bawl my eyes out while reading—but when I close the book it will be with another little piece of my heart healed.
This story unloads enough pain and trauma to fill a dump truck. And not a kid size. So just hold your heart out and get ready.
When the story opens, we get a run-down of the trauma and pain that Samuel Taggart endured as a kid. Neglected by his mom and abused by the men in her life, he grows up battered and broken. Years later, he’s managing a horse ranch and trying to hide away from the world. He’s buried the pain, stuffed the trauma and learned to live with the PTSD.
Suddenly, Bea Thompson steps back into his life like a ray of sunshine after years of rain. Bea didn’t understand why her and her childhood penpal stopped writing all those years ago. She just knows that when the letters stopped, she lost her best friend. Years later, struggling to determine the direction of her music career, she decides to take a sabbatical—-and ends up back on the ranch where she met her long ago penpal.
Tag and Bea are like storm clouds and sunshine. He’s haunted by the rain and she’s a sunbeam shining into all the broken pieces of his soul. Their story is heart-wrenching and OH SO BEAUTIFUL.
Content : childhood SA, abuse, mentions of drug and alcohol abuse/use, frequent mild language, ptsd and trauma, depression and anxiety, brief mention of suicide attempt
Initial Review after Finishing - Yes, I’ll gladly buy every Ashley Dill book and let her stories emotionally shred me until my heart is bleeding in my hands. Then I’ll keep reading until all the pieces fit back together and I can breathe again….ughhh..I just love her books. Full Review to come.
Golly. This book. Ashley has done it again. Wrote one of my favorite books. You can tell Ashley fought tooth and nail for this story and I am forever grateful she did. Every time I finish an Ashley Dill book I walk away wanting to be a better person, better wife, woman, friend. These are the reading experiences my soul craves.
We Redeemed The Rain is a cowboy romance with some really heavy topics but told in a very gentle way. The way Ashley doesn't shy away from hard topics is one of my favorite things about her writing. She can write it real and raw while lacing it with so much light, hope, and goodness.
I found part of myself in Tag and Bea. I healed parts of myself through their healing. This is the sloooowest of slow burns which is absolutely true to the tone of the story and the characters. And the pay of is so worth it.
I think Ashley's writing and tone is very similar to Amy Harmon. Making her one of my favorite authors ever. Also, she can write attractive, broken men like no one's business! This story reminds me a bit of Amy's book Running Barefoot actually. Very different, but similar vibes. 👌🏼
I've been drunk on Meadowbrook Ranch for a whole week and don't plan on getting over it anytime soon.
🏔️ Release date: November 19, 2024 🏔️ . . . If you want to go on a wild, emotional, heart wrenching journey, then this is the book for you! Ashley Dill does it yet again with writing another deeply emotional and absolutely beautiful story 🥺 This one will have you grabbing for your tissues for the entire beautiful journey of Tag and Bea ♥️
Tag had the most devastatingly sad story, which made his journey to healing that much more beautiful! It was such a heart warming experience to be able to watch his walls slowly come down around Bea as he painstakingly slowly let her in behind his defenses. I was so proud of Tag for finally seeking the help he so desperately needed 🥹
Bea was one of those characters that you instantly take a liking to. She was charismatic and bubbly, all the things that draw you to a person. When put up against the brick wall that was Tag, she didn’t let it phase her one bit, instead choosing to push forward and break through his defenses with her love and perseverance.
I adored Scribbs and Strings 🥹 Their childhood friendship was so sweet and the letters…so, so precious ♥️
This book was filled to the brim with so many beautiful words and quotes! I love a good, beautifully written story and Ashley Dill does a phenomenal job at writing those!
Ashley’s burden for this story and her attempt to present it delicately, yet honestly is evident. As a reader, I have been moved deeply and affected greatly. As a mother, I am thankful that my children grew up in a safe, loving environment. As an adult, who had a storybook childhood, I am eternally grateful for my parents. As a human being, I am wrecked! Brokenhearted that this is an ugly truth for far too many, devastated that there are people who commit such heinous acts, but hopeful, so wonderfully hopeful that there is healing. That there are people out there who will love, and love unconditionally, like Bea. Who love in spite of the scars, the nightmares, the pain.
This is the kind of story that stays with you. The kind that lingers long after the last page is turned.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Samuel Taggert & Bea Thompson - penpals friends to more - Cowboy romance - PTSD and very traumatic childhood - 1 Corinthians 13 kind of love - Writer, cowboy MMC - Singer, songwriter FFC - Age gap - Found family & healing - Slow burn - Sexual abuse & PTSD rep
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Book 1 of Meadowbrook Ranch Series - disclaimer straight away that this book and all Ashley Dill books are filled with heavy topics and themes. She handles them with so much care and the characters are imperfect as we follow them on their very realistic journey towards healing. I cannot recommend Ashley’s books enough. She is one of my very favorite authors and I couldn’t wait to read this book.
Trying my best to not give spoilers, this story was hard. I felt the pain the characters faced. My heart ached for both of them. I laughed so hard I cried at their antics. I was giddy and smiling ear to ear at their flirty interactions. I felt like I was right there along with them encouraging them to keep going, to fight for one another and not give up.
Both characters are very eloquent and the words the write and sing to one another will bring tears to your eyes. This story is so intentionally written and thought through. It’s a BEAUTIFUL example of sacrificial love by both MCs in different ways.
And I sobbbbbbbeedddd at the ending. But it’s an Ashley ending. It’s perfect. It wraps the story and you get the most perfect closure while still be interested at what happened with some side characters hopefully getting their own books 🤭😉
This is a contemporary romance that is closed door, with fade to black scenes. It discusses the emotions associated with intimacy in a relationship. There is mild cursing and innuendo throughout.

*I received an early copy from the author. This does not affect my review. This review is voluntary.*
I knew a few things before starting this one. One, it was going to be a difficult and emotional read. Two, that I would probably love it. And three, that I would be tested and tried along the way.
That happens sometimes, I will pick up a book, and just know that I will walk away changed in some way. For me, this was one of those.
There is so much I could say about it, but then I also loved seeing it unfold and happen real time, without knowing much before I read it. A few things I will say though, while this deals with difficult topics and potential triggers, much of it is contained in the first few chapters, in Part 1. Much of the story is about healing, love, and friendship. The triggers aren't there to be gratuitous in any way, and are as vague as possible while still being clear as to what happened.
Another thing is that this one does contain crude language. It's not impossible to enjoy, but that depends on your response to harsh language, and this one does contain some. It wasn't my favorite thing, but I understood why, especially coming from Tag, but yeah. It also isn't a Christian Fiction, and while faith is subtly hinted at, there is also a lot of giving the universe (and at times fate) credit, which irritated me, more so as the story goes on, but yeah.
Still, for all the things there are to dislike about this one, I found more to enjoy. I loved the themes of healing and love and how they were explored here. The hard talks with friends and loved ones. The message of overcoming life's struggles and weathering the storms together. The sense of family and the truth that we weren't meant to go through life alone. It was beautifully told and is a timeless and powerful message of hope and one that I needed, finding me just at the right moment.
Frankly, I loved it. Can I give this book 6 stars? It's definitely one of my favorite reads of the year.
We Redeemed the Rain is the first book in the Meadowbrook Ranch series by Ashley Dill and the first book I've read by this author. It's an atmospheric and heartfelt contemporary romance set on a Texas ranch with horses, a cowboy, and a singer. It tackles big heavy themes like healing from childhood sexual abuse and dealing with PTSD, but these elements are handled with grace and sensitivity by the author.
Rodeo horse trainer Sam Taggert goes by the name Tag. It's just one change he's made to distance himself from his painful past. Years ago, he met Bea Thompson while the two were in high school, and they become friends and then pen-pals. Through a series of events, they are separated for over 10 years, and only reunited when Bea visits the Meadowbrook Ranch once more at age 27. Her reunion with Tag sets of several weeks of rekindling their friendship and attempting to love one another, but overcoming the past is their biggest hurtle yet.
I really loved this book! It will stick with me for a long time. It's not the read-and-forget type of story. Bonus: the majority of the middle of the book is essentially forced proximity and has so many great scenes!
Content: Sporadic moderate language, a couple heavier make-out scenes with fade to black (not explicit), PTSD, and sexual abuse theme (but not explicitly described.)
Thank you to the author for the complementary ARC of this book. My opinion is my own and is in no way influenced by the author or the publisher.
I had to let my heart rest a full week before sitting down to write this review. I’ve never had a book affect me quite like this one, and I mean this in the very best of ways. I just literally had no idea what I was signing up for when I opened this intense, heart-felt, beautiful novel, and it is my highest hope to do it justice.
Ashley Dill writes the poetry of the heart amongst her pages - the prose, voice, setting, and story world all had a unique shimmer to it, a signature all her own. She knows exactly how to weave it all together masterfully, so that you don’t even realize the full intensity of the tapestry until you stand back and take it in from afar. This book reminds me of one of those whimsical rides at an amusement park, when you try to savor every single second because you just know it will be over way too soon, but then, once it ends, you spend all your time recounting every perfect moment, over and over, trying with all your might to hold onto that magic. That’s what flipping the pages of an Ashley Dill novel is like - her stories just stay with you like the very best after-taste.
Highlightable’s (I’m gonna try really hard here to avoid spoilers): - The ranch. The animals. Especially the horses. The measure of healing found there. - And Tillie. Oh, Tillie. And her baby. (Don’t want to say too much here but. the. symbolism…) - Miss Simone - The way Bea never gave up on him. - The way Tag loved her. - The pond. - The hayloft. - The journals. - The nicknames. - The writing. The stanza of poetry that opened each part of the book. - The side characters - especially Jesse and Cade. (Please tell me he’s next in line at getting his own book?)
Notable Quotable’s (I highlighted so many passages in this book, it was so stinking hard to narrow it down, but here’s my best effort): - “If you sat down to write in your journal at this very moment, what would you write?” I didn’t have to think. “I’d write about the thing that ruined my life.” “And what is that?” “The rain.” - I find myself in smudges, Between warm skin and paper, Ink whispers all my secrets, When shame’s hand grips my tongue. - “Stories are meant to be told. Even if they’re hard.”…“Every person should find someone to share their story with. Every person should be known by somebody. At least a little.” - With every scrap that’s left of me, I adore you. - Only people who love deeply can know what it means to thrive when everything in the world is against them. To dive roots into cold ground and reach for the sun. To bloom when they’re not even supposed to.
This book, in a nutshell, wrecked me. Shattered my little heart, then stitched it back together, one fractured piece at a time. (And again, in the very best way.) The story was poignant, real, raw, and honest, yet hopeful, uplifting, and redemptive at its core. What is the true power of love? Well this book is a wonderful, heart-felt dive into that very subject. And then: What difference can it make in a life, when just ONE person believes in you? Again, this book is a deep master-class on that subject too.
If you are looking for a light-hearted, easy read, let me tell you, this isn’t it. But if you enjoy a deep plot line that tenderly deals with hard topics, delves into the redemptive power of love, and personifies the strength of the human spirit in response to crisis, this book is spot on. It’s an absolutely beautiful read from start to finish. I will be having golden, light-filled dreams of Scribbs and Strings for many, many years to come, and I will love every. single. minute.
Highly recommend this book - would give We Redeemed the Rain TEN golden, rain-drop shaped stars if only they would let me.
My mind is blown by this book. I don’t even know how to write this review or move onto another book from here because this one was simply SO beautiful. This is a perfect example of why I intentionally make sure that half of my TBR each month consists of new-to-me authors because sometimes you strike gold!
Samuel Taggart (Tag) has suffered a childhood of sexual abuse, and his mom was anything but a mother figure. Tag’s trauma runs deep. He’s a protector and takes on the burden of doing everything he can to shield his little brother from the hurt he’s had to endure. The only peace Tag finds as he gets older is through his life at Meadowbrook Ranch. He’s about as lonely as lonely can get, but he’s resigned himself to that lifestyle, insistent that he’s unable and unworthy of love.
Struggling musician Bea Thompson finds her way to Meadowbrook, seeking out a boy she once met there as a young pre-teen. A boy she briefly knew, but helped cope through a panic attack. This boy then became a very dear pen pal for years, but time moved on, and the letters ceased. Bea never stopped caring for and wondering about this boy who opened his heart to her through pen and paper. She needed to find him.
I was stunned by how deeply moving Ashley’s writing was. As smooth as the most gorgeous poetry to ever exist. The flashbacks, the letters, the raw and tender way that Tag opens his heart and struggles through his past. The level of understanding and love that Bea brings to the table. This one is going to move you from start to finish and I truly can’t recommend it enough.
4-Star clean rating for a fair dose of swear words. No F-words. This is one of those rare instances where I almost wasn’t even realizing the language was in it after a while. It felt very authentic to the plot of the story if that makes sense.

Wow! Ashley Dill blew this one out of the park!! Who doesn’t love a cowboy romance? But with Tag😍😩 This story was so beautifully written and so so emotional (I may or may not have used a whole box of tissues while reading)…. ‼️ Now I went into this knowing there was childhood SA and there was multiple times I had to set the book down but Ashley Dill handled the topic very well. It was all about the feelings and not the details, which I appreciated. This book was REAL LIFE okay? He doesn’t randomly become okay with everything just because he meets Bea which I adore ❤️ This story followed two very relatable and growing characters! I cannot wait for this to come out!! NOVEMBER 19, guys!!!

How do you describe a book that leaves you both shattered and whole, all in the same breath? I kept putting off my review, knowing I could never give this story complete justice….
Tag and Bea— There’s an honesty in their story that feels rare and beautiful, a reminder that love sometimes shows up in the most unexpected places and in the gentlest of ways.
What I love about Ashley Dill’s writing is that she isn’t afraid to delve into hard issues. Her thorough research into this rep really shows. She captures the realities of trauma but also the bravery it takes to face it.
This story reminds us healing and love is possible even for the most broken of hearts. No matter our past, we are deeply loved and have been all along.
Read if you enjoy:
-Pen pals to more— letters and feelings expressed through words and poetry
-Characters who feel real, flawed, and incredibly human
-A setting that wraps around you like a comforting blanket, with ranch life, rescue horses, and open skies
-Stories that honor the messy, beautiful journey toward healing
-Intense storylines with lighthearted moments woven in
Content: medium language throughout (Bible swears and S-word), sexual abuse off page, attempted suicide off page, self harm, dysfunctional family, PTSD, cancer/seizures in a family member. Fade to black.
Thank you @ashleydill_author for allowing me the privilege of reading the words that lived in your heart long before they met the world.
It really is 4.5 stars. There were some really hard parts to read. My mama’s heart broke many times as I also teared up. Watching/reading others go through immense pain and fear can make me want to DNF but I stuck with it and am glad I did. I will admit this book can be triggering. If you struggle with child abuse, neglect, overwhelming fear or PTSD this may not be the best book for you to read.
Ashley Dills' "We Redeemed the Rain" is an absolutely stunning and emotional journey through trauma, healing, and love! This book dives deep into difficult subjects with such sensitivity and grace that it will truly leave a lasting impact on you.
Ashley masterfully delves into themes of childhood trauma, neglect, and PTSD, delivering a raw and honest portrayal that will have you completely engrossed in the characters' captivating journey. Get ready to be moved and inspired by this powerful read!
Tag and Bea's love story is both tender and passionate, and their connection is undeniable. Tag and Beas journey of healing and finding love is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Ashley nails the balances emotional intensity with moments of pure humour and tenderness. But what really makes this book a standout is the development of Tag and Bea as characters. They're so complex and relatable, you can't help but root for them. And those childhood letters and nicknames they had for each other? Such a brilliant touch! I'm obsessed with this book, you guys. It's seriously inspiring to see how Tag and Bea grow throughout the story.
I love that the setting of this story is on a breathtaking Texas ranch! It is the perfect backdrop for the tale that unfolds. Ashley's descriptions are so vivid, they truly bring the characters and the world they live in to life! I was especially enamored with the scenes featuring Tag and his horses; it was a beautiful representation of the bond between a man and his animals. And can we talk about the supporting characters? They added so much depth to the story without overpowering the main characters. Jesse, Cade, and Bea's family were all incredible additions that provided the main characters with the support they needed. They truly added so much heart to the story! A big shoutout to them all! ♥️
While the book does deal with some heavy and mature themes, it also offers hope and healing. The love story between Tag and Bea is a beacon of light in the darkness.
If you're looking for a book that is a light-hearted read, this isn’t it. This book is one that will stay with you long after you've finished reading it. ‘We Redeemed the Rain’ is a must-read. It's a powerful and moving story that will leave you feeling initially sad, but then hopeful and inspired. Just make sure you check out all of the TW before cracking this one open, though.
Massive thanks to the author Ashley Dill for sending me this ARC — all opinions are my own, of course!
This emotional story follows a singer-songwriter who is looking for solace and returns a special place from her childhood where the boy she knew is now a grown up cowboy struggling with the echoes of a traumatic past. The narrators did an excellent job on the audiobook and really felt like the characters they were depicting with a voice that felt like it came from a singer and the light drawl of a cowboy.
There are a lot of painful things in this story but also a lot of hope and the beauty of overcoming pain and realizing each person is worthy of love. It made me think about the importance of the people who are able to really see what’s happening and ask the question and be a safe place for someone (especially a child) to be able to finally speak the truth and break free from abuse. And also the deep significance of seemingly small demonstrations of care to other people. This was a gritty but deeply satisfying story of love and joy when the road isn’t easy.
The horse ranch was a really wonderful setting for much of the story. My family has had an increase in horse exposure in the last month as my girls just started taking horseback riding lessons from our neighbor. They are absolutely loving it! I know horses are a source of solace for so many people and it was meaningful to be listening to this story while also getting to know some real life horses.
Trigger/content notes: childhood sexual abuse (heartbreaking but not depicted on page), childhood abuse and neglect, PTSD. A couple others that are more spoilery . Moderate level language throughout (mostly s word and d word- no f words). Spice level is fade to black.
3.75⭐️ This is only my second book by this author and one thing I’ve come to learn is her stories are raw and emotional, but also have humor that makes you laugh out loud. This one just felt like a really slow, slow burn. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good slow burn, but this one just felt slow and I’m starting to think maybe her writing style just isn’t for me.
Slight spoilers
There were a few things that were a miss for me. I wish she would’ve went more into depth with like Tag’s anxiety and PTSD, it kind of felt like it was kind of glossed over until about the last 15%. I just personally would’ve liked to been apart of his healing journey more. Also, I would’ve liked to see if his and Coopers relationship got any better and fingers crossed he gets his own story. As far as Bea goes, I liked her as a fmc, but honestly I feel like there wasn’t a lot of depth to her character. She wasn’t annoying or anything like that, just kind of meh.
Clean but heavy contemporary romance. This one has a lot of depth. The male main character is dealing with major childhood trauma and PTSD. He has enough understanding to know he can’t manage his own emotional healing and maintain a romantic relationship. He takes things too far in pushing the support he needs away instead of honest communication and healthy boundaries. The entire story is his way of working all of it out. Most of the difficult pieces of the story happen “offscreen” with little in the way of detail. There is terrible violence hinted at. There are vague references to sex and abuse. The language is minimal. The most detail is given to episodes of PTSD, anxiety, and depression. There are also mentions of suicide, substance abuse, child abuse and neglect, and mental health issues. Also major health issues, family drama, etc.
I've not read anything by Ashley Dill before, but after reading this, I'll certainly be adding her to my TBR.
This story was slowly built and well done. There are a lot of heartbreaking moments and not easy things the characters deal with, but they were steady along the way which I enjoyed.
I’ve learned when reading an Ashley Dill book you need to be sure you have a large block of time because you will become so engrossed in the story you won’t want to stop until you’ve read the whole thing. This book draws you in from the very beginning and doesn’t let go.
Ashley is a master at skillfully and tastefully covering topics and situations of a delicate nature. She brings all the feelings without having to go into graphic detail. She brings hope where there was none, redemption for loss and engenders feelings of empathy and caring.
I loved reading the correspondence between the two main characters. “It’s amazing how alive ink and paper can feel.”
Some of my favorite quotes are — “In writing, we edit, only letting through what we want. But real life has no editor. Faces, eyes, and knee-jerk reactions tell the story we would rather keep locked away.”
“Why are all the delicious things bad for you?” I was thinking the exact same thing, but not about the noodles.”
“That smile could charge a dead battery. Every time I looked at it, life jolted into my chest.”
“If anything can conjure up the miraculous, it’s love.”
If you’re looking for an emotional, but satisfying story of redemption this is the book for you.

I am once again in awe of Ashley Dill. She has this incredible ability to weave together the most beautiful love story with heavy traumatic topics that are handled with such care. Every time I read one of her books I bring tissues because I know I will need them. This book was no exception. Chapter 2 had me going!
Tag and Bea could not have come from more different worlds, yet they are the most perfect fit for one another. I’ve read a lot of different romances lately but never one quite like theirs. The letters, the nicknames, the pieces of their past that they’ve brought into adulthood… I can’t get enough!
I am so honored to have had the pleasure of reading this story as an ARC. Even before finishing I was recommending to all my friends. I like to go into stories blind, but if you’re at all sensitive to certain topics, be sure to read the TW notice before reading. I’m happy to send you a list before hand if you need.
We Redeemed the Rain by Ashley Dill is a deeply moving story about resilience, redemption, and the healing power of love. From the very first page, the book pulls you into a world rich in emotion and vivid imagery. The protagonist’s journey is one of navigating love, loss, and the complexities of human connection, all while seeking healing and hope.
The characters are the true heart of the story. Each one is beautifully crafted, from the determined protagonist to the supportive, complex side characters. Tillie, especially, stands out, along with the powerful symbolism surrounding her and her baby. The relationships—marked by both loyalty and betrayal—feel raw and authentic. The ranch setting, complete with horses and a peaceful pond, becomes a sanctuary that embodies healing and renewal.
Ashley Dill’s writing is lyrical and immersive, weaving themes of redemption and community throughout. Each chapter feels like poetry, resonating deeply and leaving a lasting impression. This is not a light read, but one that tenderly addresses difficult topics with grace and hope. If you’re looking for a story that will break your heart and mend it again, this one is unforgettable.
You know those rare books that leave you feeling shattered & whole? The kind that grabs your heart, shakes it (a lot), & then gently pieces it back together with threads of hope & redemption? That’s 𝙒𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙖𝙞𝙣 by Ashley Dill. My heart is still recovering—in the best way possible.
Bea (“Strings”) & Tag’s (Scribbs) story isn’t just a romance. It’s a moving exploration of trauma, healing, & the quiet beauty of love. Set on Meadowbrook Ranch, this slow-burn masterpiece will have you holding your breath one moment & laughing through tears the next. And those pen-pal letters? Strings & Scribbs will own a piece of your soul.

💭 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡 𝗔 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 As a survivor of sexual abuse, this book touched me deeply. Dill doesn’t shy away from life’s hardest struggles but weaves them with hope & resilience. Even in life’s storms, growth & love are possible—sometimes, all it takes is faith (and maybe a pond swim or two ☺️).
𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: 💧 Swimming in the pond—a quiet, transformative scene. 😂 The nicknames: “Strings” & “Scribbs” melted my heart. 🐴 The ranch: Pure magic for the soul.
Ashley Dill doesn’t just tell stories—she weaves tapestries of healing & love that stay with you long after the last page. This isn’t just a book—it’s a gift for your soul.
⚠️ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀/𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀: Clean romance with fade-to-black moments. Mild profanity. Themes of childhood sexual trauma (off-page), PTSD, parental neglect, financial struggles, & reference to suicide.
⭐️ 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4.5/5 stars: Certain sections progressed slowly affecting engagement but this doesn’t detract from this beautiful story.
