Kenna Hale is done being the good girl. She's spent her life romanticizing losing her virginity, convincing herself there's only one man for the her best friend, Sam. The problem is she seems to be the only woman in Clover County he isn't interested in sleeping with.
Sam Whitlock is good at being the bad boy. He's spent his life in the shadow of his playboy father, following in his lothario footsteps. Only one woman is off-limits to his best friend, Kenna. The problem is she also happens to be the only woman he's ever loved.
Author's Blue Moon Love is a next-door-neighbor, friends-to-lovers, hot cop MMC, V-card-carrying FMC, tattooed hero, small-town romance.
NEW YORK TIMES & USA TODAY bestselling author Melanie Shawn writes HEAs filled with sweet and sassy heroines, cinnamon roll alphas, casts of supportive *cough: meddling* friends and family who put the fun in funny, toe-curling combustible heat, and sugary sweet “aww” moments that will have your hearts and e-readers melting.
I adore all Melanie Shawn’s books but she’s outdone herself this time. Kenna & Sam’s story was beautiful, full of love, friendship, angst & of course a HEA. But the epilogue… as an 80s girl, I cried happy tears as Kenna lived out my 80s girl dream.
Blue Moon Love by Melanie Shawn, book four in the Wishing Well: Hometown Heart series, is a wonderful, friends-to-lovers story that unexpectedly makes a perfect match. Kenna and Sam have been best friends in love with each other for more years than they can count, but will never admit it to each other. After years of pining away, Kenna finally decides she needs to set boundaries with Sam so that she can get what she wants out of life since he does not seem to want the same things she does. Unfortunately, that is blown to hell when Sam is injured and must stay at her house for his recovery.
Sam has always thought that blood makes the man; with his entire line of male relatives having been known to be womanizers and not the settling down type. He doesn't want to hurt anyone the way his mother was hurt so he is determined not to give in to the feelings that he has always had for Kenna; his way to save her from heartbreak without realizing that this attitude is causing her nothing but heartbreak. With the help of his grandfather he finally realizes that he is not like his father, that he can be happy loving just one woman; just Kenna. With steamy and sizzling chemistry, off the charts passion, and revisiting past characters from previous Wishing Well books, you will be cheering for these two as they head toward their HEA.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I always enjoy heading back to Wishing Well! Blue Moon Love is the next installment in the Wishing Well: Hometown Heart series.
Kenna Hale and Sam Whitlock have been best friends forever. They have done everything together and even live next door to one another, which perpetuates them always being together. They love one another and while they each are pining away for the other, neither one is willing to say anything for fear of rocking the boat in their friendship, and of course, they don't think the other feels the same way!
Kenna finally decides she needs to set some boundaries, otherwise she is never going to find herself a boyfriend, which in turn means she's never going to hand in her V-card, which he intends to do before her next birthday. As Kenna changes her ways around Sam, he finds he doesn't like it very much, but he hasn't figured out why things between them have changed. When circumstances put Kenna and Sam in the same space for an extended period of time, will these two finally figure out how to communicate to one another that they are it for the other person? Or will they let the one person they both love more than anything get away?
Both Kenna and Sam have issues that they have to deal with, but I have to say, I started to lose my patience with both of them at times, but in the end it was worth it. These two absolutely belonged together and it was great to finally see them get out of their own way and enjoy being together!
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**
Another trip back to Wishing Well and another feel good story read.
Sam has always thought that blood makes the man. His entire line of male relatives have been known to be womanizers who are not the settling down type. He doesn't want to hurt anyone the way his mother was hurt so he is determined not to give in to the feelings that he has always had for Kenna as this was his way to save her from heartbreak without realizing that this stance is causing her nothing but heartbreak.
I loved the story and love that you catch up with some of the characters in the previous stories. I needed this fun read and it definitely delivered! Can't wait to see what Melanie comes up with next.
This is such a good love story. I can’t imagine meeting a boy when I was a young child and being in love with him into adulthood. Especially without either admitting their love to the other. But that was Kenna and Sam. The wonderful part of their love story was that they had been best friends for most of their lives. It was so sad to think that Sam could never commit and marry Kenna as he thought it was in his DNA to be a rouge and break the one he loves heart. Sam was determined never to break Kenna’s heart. On the flip side Kenna was in her early thirties and still a virgin. She was determined to rectify that before her middle thirties. Her attempts and finding someone did not go too well. It got crazier after Sam got an idea what she was doing. There was times I wanted to knock Sam in the head for how he thought. I enjoyed this love story and encourage you to read it.
Wishing Well has always been my favorite place to be. This was a great addition to not only this place but to this series. I think that Kenna and Sam are my favorite of this series so far. Their story was a heartwarming read. Best friends who have both been in love with other but both are too afraid to admit it for fear of losing each other. Their story was a page turner from the very first chapter. I will warn you there will be moments that Sam will frustrate you but those moments just make the book that much better! For me Kenna and Sam's story was beautiful. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Our couple have been lifelong friends but never anything more until our heroine decides that it's finally time to lose the old v card. She has wished for years that our hero looked at her as more than a friend. Well, once she decides to really put herself out there and date more, he finally decides it's time to see her as more, but he believes his DNA is not commitment worthy. It takes a medical situation to alter things between them and it becomes more. Great characters, wonderful updates on other Wishing Well couples. Hope the series continues with our heroines brothers finally getting their hea.
Kenna and Sam have been best friends since they were kids. At 33 Kenna is still holding on to her V card because she has been in love with Sam forever. Sam thinks he’s just like his father a man who can’t stay monogamous so even though he’s in love with Kenna he stays away from her. That is until he finds out she is looking to get rid of her V card and move on. This book is soo amazing. Loved it
Sam and Kenna have been friends their entire lives. They are the best of friends and neither of them have ever shared their feelings for each other....until.....they do. And then we are in for a fun ride as they each figure out how much they mean to each other!! Great story - loved the 80s details that were sprinkled throughout and can't wait for the next one!!!
There was nothing special about this book. It was fine, until the sex scenes. The author was using the words 'mushroom head' and 'canal' multiple times. Almost dropped to 1 star because this was so bad. If you can't bring yourself to write a sex scene using words people actually use, maybe you should leave the door closed in your books.
What to say about Kenna and Sam!?! An amazing story of friendship and love. Poor Sam really gets the beating in this story and not only physically. Mentally he’s resigned himself to being alone due to his family baggage. Thankfully Sam (and his grandfather) are redeemed by the love of a good woman!
Kenna and Sam, oh my heart! I loved their friendship, they were each in love but couldn’t see it for what it was. I loved all the jokes and innuendos. I especially loved how everyone knew they were meant to be and were just waiting for them to realise it themselves and never said a word about it.
Kenna and Sam’s story is not only totally adorable, it’s also quite frustrating at times. They are both in love with each other but Sam doesn’t think he’s good enough for Kenna and Kenna thinks Sam is just out to hook up with every woman in Texas. When they finally realize they are each other’s person, things fall into place. The journey to HEA is a fun read and if you love the Wishing Well series, you will not be disappointed in this one. Just read it and thank me later!
Sam & Kennas story was fantastic! Sam was a serial dater who feels like he can never settle down because of his family history. Kenna has been in love with Sam since she was a kid and can’t seem to let him go to find her forever love. Their chemistry is off the charts and obvious to everyone but them. Definitely a great fun visit back in Wishing Well and a recommended read!
Sam and Kenna have been best friends forever. Kenna has always been in love with Sam. She never acted on it because she didn’t want to lose him as a friend. But when Sam when Sam finds out Kenna’s secret, everything could change. The question is will their friendship survive?
It’s hard to say which book in the Wishing Well: Hometown Heart series is better than the other. I have enjoyed each and every one of them and this is no different. Kenna and Sam are childhood friends, who are in love with each other, and this is evident to the whole town except to them. Just as Kenna decides to put some distance between them, Sam gets injured and moves in with her. And when he comes to know of her plans to lose her virginity, just the thought of another guy touching her makes him see red and he thinks if she has to lose her virginity, then it can only be with him. How will this change in their relationship affect their friendship? This is a beautiful next door neighbor, best friends to lovers story. There were times when I wanted to whack Sam for his DNA thought, but then if he didn’t think that way we wouldnt have such an awesome read. Sam and Kenna were perfect for each other. Their romance was swoon worthy and their chemistry steamy and sizzling hot. I loved reading their HEA and visiting all the characters from previous book.
Blue Moon Love is the fourth installment of the Wishing Well: Hometown Heroes series by Melanie Shawn. It was a wild ride of two lifelong best friends' journey to their happily ever after!
Kenna is so fun, and I was excited to know we were getting her and Sam's story after Taylor and Remi's. I love a good friends to lovers story, but this seemed next level! Kenna has a secret she's never told anyone, and her goal is to take care of it before her 34th birthday.
Sam is your alpha playboy who has now found it's not so much fun anymore. He's kind and caring and just wants what's best for Kenna, which he is convinced isn't him.
I loved the burn of this story it. The build-up was beautifully written, and both characters could be frustrating at times, but it's that situation where you want to shake someone and say, just tell them already!! I love Wishing Well and am sad to say goodbye!
This was a great best friends to lovers book. Well written with great characters - very realistic. I love that we are continuing in Wishing Well with several other couples we have been introduced to at least mentioned- brings it all full circle.
The ending is probably one of my favorites though - super cheesy and romantic, so the best kind.
Kenna and Sam have been best friends forever. They have secretly loved each other the same amount of time. It takes Sam getting injured and her dog bringing her diary for them to get together. It was a great story!
3.5 stars This is the 4th book in the extension of the authors original Wishing Well Texas series. As it says in the blurb it’s a “friends to lovers” trope. But unlike most friends to lovers tropes where either one or both of the main protagonists are afraid to risk taking their friendship to the next level because if it doesn’t work out it could damage their all important friendship, this one is a little different. Sam Whitlock and Kenna Hale (now approaching 36 and 34 respectively) have been BFFs and neighbors since they were young children. And they’ve been secretly in love with each other for just as long. Sam comes from a long line of philandering males. His father’s serial cheating on his mother contributed to her death when he was only eleven years old. Sam (because he’s your typical dumb male protagonist and everyone keeps telling him he looks just like his handsome late father) has convinced himself that because of something in their DNA, the men in his family are incapable of remaining faithful to one woman. So he’s decided to do the honorable thing. Even though he’s in love with Kenna, he’ll fuck just about every single woman in Texas that isn’t her. Kenna is approaching her 34th birthday. She is something that occurs rarely in real life and even less often in contemporary romance books, a physically and emotionally healthy, attractive woman who is at 33 years old, still a virgin. Almost as rare for a contemporary romance female protagonist, Kenna has never been down with just hooking up with a random guy for a one-night stand or brief fling. For that and different reasons the three long term relationships she’s been in have never led to her losing her virginity. Through therapy Kenna has come to realize one of the main reasons she hasn’t been able to find a suitable man to cash her V-card is because she’s in love with her unattainable BFF Sam and woven him closely into her daily life. Her therapist advises her that the only way she’s ever going to be able to form a true romantic relationship with another man is by putting some serious boundaries between herself and Sam. As her 34th birthday approaches Kenna is determined not to become a middle-aged virgin. Yeah like 34 is middle-aged. So, she’s tries to put some emotional and physical distance between herself and Sam and begun seriously looking for a partner using dating apps. Because Wishing Well Texas has a rather small dating pool that is constantly shrinking, of eligible bachelors. Sam who has finally tired of meaningless hookups but is still not willing to be in a committed relationship with Kenna convinced he could never be a faithful partner (see, stupid) has been celibate for the past year or so. Proving how hard it is to change people’s perceptions of you, most people (even Kenna) don’t even notice and assume he’s still whoring around. He realizes Kenna has begun to pull away from him but doesn’t know why. He’s also very aware that Kenna has begun to actively date which makes him jealous even though he realizes he has no right to be. He misses the times he and Kenna used to spend together sharing meals and watching movies late into the night since they are both night owls. After a string of failed dates a new man enters the picture. Jonah is an extremely handsome, retired former NFL player who is a single dad going through a divorce from his high school sweetheart. Jonah who now works with Kenna’s brother Milo as a firefighter, is attracted to Kenna and begins to pursue her. With a real rival for Jenna’s affections Sam’s green monster really rises to the surface. But again, because he’s so convinced he can’t be the man Kenna deserves he silently steams over Jonah’s and Kenna’s budding relationship. For her part Jonah definitely checks all of her boxes and then some. And her birthday is now only weeks away so the clock is ticking for her to lose her V-card. But despite her best efforts and Jonah’s undeniable desirability, Kenna seems powerless to put her attraction to Sam on the backburner enough to give Jonah a real chance. I liked this story but I confess after awhile I grew impatient for the H.E.A. Watching Kenna try to break the stranglehold Sam had on her heart and Sam refusing to see the light despite soul changing sex and a near death experience, got a little old. I did enjoy remembering all the great 80s movies Kenna and her dad loved to watch. The eighties may have IMHO been a great wasteland for music but the rom.-coms’ were fun. Finally Sam has his “Ah Ha” moment and the ending is everything the romantic in me could hope for. And as a bonus just about every couple in this eponymous series made a brief appearance.
I knew Kenna and Sam’s story was going to be good, but this story was beyond that. I love their friendship/relationship and especially the fact that they live right next to each other. These two are definitely in love with each other but won’t admit it for their own reasons. Kenna however had made a major life decision and has a goal before her next birthday. She ends up finally meeting someone who definitely checks all the boxes and could help her with her goal, but her heart firmly belongs to Sam. Kenna’s dog Winnie loves bringing her lost things she finds around the house for treats, who knew that when Sam ended up staying with Kenna for a few days that she would bring Sam the greatest find of all, Kenna’s journal. I understand Kenna being upset and rightfully so, but Sam found out some useful information. It was hard when Kenna realized that nothing was going to happen with her check all the boxes guy but when you and your heart belong to Sam, no one else will do. When Sam has his second injury of the book, that’s all it took for Kenna to realize that he was end game for her. Throughout the story we also find out why Sam doesn’t think he should settle down but an eye-opening conversation with his grandfather turns the tables and changes his mindset on the subject. LOVED the ending of this book and the epilogue was all of my 80’s dreams come true. Who knew that Sam had it in him to not only give Kenna the surprise of her life but to pretty much re-create parts of her favorite movie, down to every little detail including the clothes and that was way back when before anything happened between them. Wonderful book. I’m wondering if we’ll get any more books in this series.
Beautiful story. The characters are beyond amazing and the chemistry between the two is remarkable. Absolute must read! Sam is a police officer and partners with Kane (previous book) and best friends with a woman named Kenna. Sam has always been in love with Kenna but never wanted anything more than just being her best friend for 2 reasons. The first reason being that she is his best friend, and he would never want to ruin that. Second and most important is because of his DNA. Sam’s dad was a man-whore, as was his grandpa and great grandpa. Sam does not want to be in a relationship where he would hurt a woman, especially not Kenna. All the women Sam hooks up with know the score. Kenna is a bar tender at The Tipsy Cow. She loves her job but even working at a bar she hasn’t been able to find “the right guy” to spend her life with or lose her V card to. Some of that might have to do with the fact that she is totally in love with her best friend Sam. She has been since they were kids. But she believes he has never been interested in her romantically. So, what happens when Sam is staying at Kenna’s house while recovering from surgery and reads her diary? The diary that she had put her most secret of secrets in. When Sam reads that Kenna still has her V Card he is in total shock. He just can’t believe that can be true. What’s worse is that he reads how she is dating to try and find a man she approves of to help her with loosing her v card before her birthday which is in approx 3 weeks now. What is Sam to do? He can’t let some guy take what should be and what he wants to be his. Can Kenna and Sam come together for a “good cause”? Can they also stay friends if they give into their desire? What is supposed to be one night is not what either of them imagined, its so much more.
We are back in Wishing Well where the men and women are finding love when they least expect it. Sam Whitlock and Kenna Hale have been best friends and neighbors since they were very young kids. They have shared secrets, and supported each other in good times and bad ones. Nowadays, 36 year old Sam is a cop and is also considered the playboy in town. What no one knows, especially Kenna, is that for years he secretly has loved her as more than a friend. But he believes his DNA would make him a bad husband and father and has never revealed his feelings. Kenna has kept a few secrets from Sam as well. She’s a virgin and as her 34th birthday approaches , Kenna is determined to lose her virginity before that date. Kenna secretly loves Sam more than as a best friend, but saying that to him, would likely ruin the special bond they have. Recovering from surgery , Sam accidentally comes across Kenna’s diary and her mention of her virginity. Will he offer to be her first? What happens when the feelings for each other intensifies? Do they go their separate ways and deny how they feel, or will they realize that they deserve to be happy? This was another great addition to the series. It’s a stand alone but if you have read the previous stories in the series, you’ll get a chance to visit with some of the characters from those stories. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Just when I think there can’t be any hot, sweet, swoony guys left in Wishing Well, Melanie Shawn does it again! Kenna and Sam have been best friends since he was eight and she was six. They have loved each other secretly that long as well! Sam thinks he isn’t good enough for Kenna and Kenna is afraid to trust Sam because he has a reputation with the women – and he never fails to share the details with her! As Kenna approaches her thirty-fourth birthday still a virgin, she decides something has to change – she must distance herself from Sam in order to open her heart to anyone else. Lucky for her an eligible bachelor moves to town and shows interest. That’s all Sam needs to push him forward – that an a little bit of nursing he needs from his best friend when he injures his knee. Close proximity makes distance hard, and when Sam inadvertently reads Kenna’s journal and learns of her plans, he decides he is the man for the job! I loved Sam and Kenna’s relationship and their journey to each other. What a great book!
Finally getting Kenna’s story! Kenna and Sam have been best friends for decades at this point, and while they both have feelings beyond friendship towards each other, neither of them will make the next move or blur those lines. Everything changes though when Kenna decides that in order to get into a relationship and move on with her life, she needs to set boundaries, which confuses Sam until he figures out why when he’s staying at her house while recovering from injury. Once the lines blur between them and they start to spend time together in a different way than they ever had, the reasons why they’ve been reserved start to come out – Sam doesn’t want to be like his father and the other men in his family who are known for their playboy ways, and Kenna realizes she deserves the relationship between them. I love that Sam’s grandfather plays a big role on helping Sam realize that he is different and also that he deserves the love that Kenna has always had for him. I hope we get more from Wishing Well! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Long time love and best friends turned romantic couple Sam and Kenna have been friends since he was 8 and she was 6. Sam comes from a broken home and used to crawl into Kennas window and then her bed when things would get bad at his house. Her family became more of a family to him than his own and they welcomed him with open arms. Because of his background, he believes that he is broken and any relationship he has will also be broken. Kenna is 33 and soon approaching 34 and still a virgin. She has decided that it is time to find someone to help with that. But first she had to find the right man, or at least a man that wasn't who she really wanted. Sam. Neither of them was willing to cross that line and become more than friends with the thought of losing what they had. Will love over come and will they realize that they have been in love with each other since they were children? After all, it's not often that you meet your other half when you are a child.

In the small Texas town of Wishing Well, true love will always find a way. A very cute and loving story, that builds into some steamy scenes. Sam and Kenna have been best friends since they were kids and have lived next door to each other for most of their lives. Everyone in town has seen the sparks between them for years. They have shared almost every part of their lives with each other, except for sharing themselves. When that finally happens, how will their relationship change? What will it take for Sam and Kenna to finally admit their feelings?
