Willow at Christmas
Delicate watercolors evoke the wonder of childhood as Willow, the gentle bear, prepares for a perfect Christmas with all of his friends on Paradise Farm.
On the morning of Christmas Eve, Willow jumps out of bed, joyful to see that snow is falling. There’s much to do - gathering holly, wrapping presents, and searching for just the right tree to trim with Little Pig Pink and the rest of his animal friends. Soon it’s time to hang up the stockings and snuggle back into bed - with hopes that Santa Claus will come in the night.

There are several books featuring Willow, so if this is your first introduction to him, then things might be slightly confusing. My main concern is how does a stuffed animal bear own a farm? Who is sentient in this equation? How old is Willow if he runs a farm, but receives toys for Christmas? Regardless, the story is very refreshing and a peaceful read.

I read this book aloud at bedtime every year. It's a family favorite. There isn't really a plot, per se; it's just a sweet, simple telling of a bear's Christmas celebration. The illustrations are soft and comforting, and the song is familiar enough that every child can sing along.

Charming and nostalgic.
Memorable: 2*
Only because the illustrations are lovely.

Pretty simple plot. The most original plot twist - Teddy bear owns a farm. Easy to follow plot for the little ones.
Surprising: 1*
The pig is named Little Pig Pink. Yes. In that order.
Language: 3*
Ending: 3*
Funny: 0*
Bonus points - none. But I don't penalize a book if it's not funny. They don't have to be funny to be good.
Overall: 3*
We liked it, but next week we will not remember it. Perfectly fine for very young children.

This is one of our favorite Christmas books. An English Christmas cottage and farm with adorable animals and language that sounds delightfully charming when read with a British accent. This book is simple and sweet and the illustrations make me want to jump right in and join Willow and Little Pig Pink and all the rest.

This book stands apart from other children's books not just for its Christmas message, but also for the delicate paintings, several per page, and the music included at its end.

Camilla Ashforth delights readers with her vintage art and tales filled with love, friendship, and kindness. A wonderful Christmas addition for her believed Willow.
