Their relationship is fake. But the sparks between them are hot enough to burn.
Agent Brynn Somerton just resigned from the FBI. Her top secret going undercover to destroy a dangerous crime syndicate. According to the law, she’s now a vigilante. And that means working with the Last Refuge Protectors. Whether she likes it or not.
Bounty hunter Cole Bailey wants nothing to do with the FBI. This iron-willed ex-Ranger prefers to work on his own. But going undercover with Brynn will serve more than one agenda. Cole can play her boyfriend, but he’ll keep his secrets close.
If only she wasn’t so dang tempting. Every touch leaves him craving more.
They don’t trust each other. So they’ll have to fake it. But the deeper they get, the harder it is to tell the difference between the lies and the truth. And if they’re not careful, they’ll both get burned.
I write suspenseful romance with pulse-pounding danger, fun & flirty banter, and tons of heart (plus spice!). Both a Californian and a Texan in my past, I now live in the Colorado mountains with my family.
The instant attraction is pretty much the running theme in this series. Most of the couples here really hit it off fast, like in just a week or maybe even less. Well, if that's the readers' jam, then this book—or should I say this series—is definitely for them.
In the story, Brynn (33) decided to leave the FBI and go undercover to capture the leader of the group they've been hunting for the past few years. Despite no longer working together, her ex-boss wants to stay in the loop and get daily updates on what she's doing with her operation. It seems like they have this kind of pseudo-father-daughter vibe going on, so I totally get why the man is concerned about her. But Brynn isn't flying solo in this situation; she’s got to team up with another former Marine, Cole (40), now bounty hunter, to make this covert successful.
So, on the way to the temporary residence she was going to stay at, Brynn's tire went flat, and Cole happened to pass by and helped her fix it. At this point, they still didn't know each other. They are supposed to meet for the first time at her place. After changing the tire, Brynn returned Cole's equipment and thanked him for it. But unknowingly, Cole made a remark about "knowing a thing or two about the benefits of a good equipment". She got annoyed thinking that he was flirting with her, but in reality, Cole was just talking about his prosthesis.
Let's just say that things went pretty bad after that comment. They snapped at each other, and Cole didn't bother to explain what he really meant because he thought she didn't need to know that. After the argument, they went their separate ways. But of course, they eventually meet, and although it wasn't as bad as the first time, the second time wasn't as good either. They attempted to resolve their issue but ended up getting a little snappy with each other again. They finally managed to get on the same page, on their third try. 🤣
Yet despite all that annoyance flowing through them, it seems like lust is just way stronger. 🫣 Before I even realize it, they're already making out after just two days. Like I said, instant attraction. 😂
But in all fairness, it seems like this is the first couple who didn't go to bed immediately, which is pretty different from all the other MCs in other books. After their kiss, Brynn kept it cool with Cole and only talked to him when it came to the undercover operation. Cole felt a mix of annoyance and understanding about Brynn's avoidance since he too can't seem to think clearly when she's around. 🤭
But when they finally stepped into their roles for their undercover as an influencer and her manager/boyfriend, the whole idea of staying professional and not acting on their attraction just went out the window right away. 🤣
Tbh, I was more intrigued with the capture of the leader, than the romance between the MCs. It's not that it's not great, they do have chemistry, but they moved so quickly, even though they kept having those inner thoughts about why getting involved with each other was a bad idea. Both of them have been hurt by their exes, and even after all these years, it's clear that the damage is still affecting their lives. But, in just under two weeks, their hangups disappeared in an instant. So, like, how does that even happen? 🤔 I just didn't understand it at all, but idk, other readers might be okay with it. 🤷♀️
As for the suspense? Honestly, it was pretty anticlimactic. I kind of wish there was some on-page retribution for the leader. He's really an abomination, having committed and led some horrible things that hurt innocent people. I feel like it would be much more satisfying to see him in pain, just saying. 🤷♀️
Anyhoo, I’m not really sure if the overarching plot is wrapped up yet. The leader of the organized crime group they're trying to take down is already caught in this book. So I don't know what the succeeding books will be all about. Maybe another bad guy will take over the role of the leader, and it will start the cycle again. Who knows?
As for the ending, it was pretty disappointing. In the epilogue, they've been together for three months already, and they just exchanged ILYs, literally, at the last paragraph and that was it. 🥴 What in the world was that all about??? Also, it turns out that was the first time they actually said those words. Seriously, what the heck??? 🤦
Then there's the bonus epilogue, and I was really, really hoping it would be better. But, it was just kind of meh too. 😩 So, it's been another three months, and they just moved back to Cole's place in Mexico. They’ve decided that Brynn is going to become a bounty hunter too, and will become his partner. And again, that's basically it. 🤷♀️🤦♀️
Overall, it was a pretty decent read—neither bad nor particularly good, really, but the ending was a huge letdown. 😬

Oh no! We need more Last Refuge Protectors, but I don't see any new stories coming up in this fantastic series. This suspense tale was a real page-turner, with enough spice to burn up the pages in between the twists and turns. I loved and rooted for these characters, plus got the added treat of revisiting beloved characters from the previous books (I'm looking at you, Riv). This whole series is a must-read, and now I have to figure out what to download next while I wait for more from this talented, one-click author.
Another great addition to the Last Protector series. Book five gives us the expected danger, suspense, secrets, and steamy chemistry.
Brynn and Cole are more like oil and water, but they have a common goal to eliminate Stillwater. Brynn is an FBI agent, and Cole is a bounty hunter; together, they go undercover for this crucial mission. Both have questioned if love is in their future, but harmless flirting becomes desire as they are unable to keep their guard up as the danger increases.
I was hooked from beginning to end and on the edge of my seat most of the story.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Iron Willed Warrior Last Refuge Protectors Book 5 Book 5 of the series brings us to Cole and Brynn’s story and it’s fabulous. Hannah does an outstanding job of bringing both characters to life in the feisty FBI Agent Brynn Somerton and war hardened Bounty Hunter Cole Bailey. Both have a past that has tainted them on love and trust, but now they’re working together on an important no fail mission. As the danger, intrigue and secrets mount so does their desire for each other and the seemingly harmless flirting ignites into so much more. This book will keep you on the hook right until the final word. Thanks to the author for the opportunity to read and review her work.
The much awaited 5th book in the Last Refuge Protectors series.
This one was fast paced and full of action. More spice than some of the others which is not a complaint. Cole and Brynn go undercover once the FBI figures out who the head of Stillwater.
Highly recommend this book, best if read in order of the series.
Thank you to Book Sirens for the free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Another excellent edition to this series. Brynn and Cole didn't hit it off at first, but they had a common goal. Never a dull moment that's for sure. There's plenty of danger and heat. HEA. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Iron Willed Warrior is the fifth book in Last Refuge Protectors series. Spectacular and fast-paced, it is incredibly addictive and suspenseful, filled with heartwarming moments, danger, tension, and emotional turmoil. The strength of love and intrigue are skillfully woven together to create a perfect balance. This book will keep readers on the edge of their seats with an emotion-driven, heartfelt, intense storyline that's full of unexpected twists and turns through a dark world and tangled web of mystery. Iron Willed Warrior is an unputdownable romantic thriller and a compelling page-turner.
Agent Brynn Somerton has resigned from the FBI and been assigned to an undercover operation to dismantle a powerful crime syndicate. As a result, she is now considered a vigilante and must work with a group called the Last Refuge Protectors. Cole Bailey, a former Ranger turned bounty hunter, is initially hesitant to team up with Brynn due to his distrust of the FBI. However, he agrees to go undercover with her as part of a larger plan. As they work together, Cole finds himself drawn to Brynn despite their initial animosity towards each other. They must navigate their complicated feelings while maintaining a facade of a romantic relationship. The more they invest in their fake relationship, the harder it becomes to distinguish between lies and truth. If they're not careful, deception could lead to disastrous consequences. The attraction between them is undeniable. Cole is closed-off, tough, brooding, grumpy, and believes that showing vulnerability is weakness. However, he is very protective of people he cares about and has a softer side. Brynn is fierce, determined, stubborn, independent, and stands her ground. When they realized they needed to work together, they were less than thrilled, especially with the trust issues and their past, facing their hardships. Brynn and Cole's relationship grows amidst danger and deceit, having only each other to rely on. As they reveal vulnerabilities, their bond deepens, making their partnership/relationship believable and meaningful. The development of Brynn and Cole's relationship is expertly woven throughout the narrative, creating an engaging and suspenseful story filled with danger, deceit, and unexpected romance.
I absolutely loved this book and the fact that these two protagonists didn't trust each other, needed to work together and learn how to trust. It is very enjoyable, well-written and developed. Great addition to this series.
Their relationship is fake. But the sparks between them are hot enough to burn.

“Iron Willed Warrior” is the fifth and last book in the “Last Refuge Protectors Series.” Cole Bailey (aka Lynx) is ex-Ranger, now a bounty hunter who helps out The Protectors, when required. Cole prefers to work alone. Brynn Sommerton is an ex-Marine and is now an FBI agent. She loves her job. Together, they are going under cover, the problem is that they do not like each other! This operation must work - if they succeed, they will bring down the head of Stillwater. If they fail ……
“…. the woman was beautiful. Attraction buzzed low in my belly, and my gaze kept straying in her direction. The elegant lines of her profile, the hidden strength of her body beneath the puffy coat and dark jeans.”
Feeling towards each other change very quickly. The physical attraction grows to emotional feelings …. dare I say love? Both have been hurt badly in past relationships, can they overcome and have a future together? The chemistry between these two is strong, but first, they must learn to trust each other …..
You will fall in love with Cole and Brynn, hoping that everything with work out for them and if they have a future together. There is never a dull moment - you will be hooked! I know I was - just love these two! A thoroughly enjoyable read from page to page, one chapter to the next - at times you are metaphorical “on the edge of your chair” wondering what will happen next. Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 😊
Hannah Shield delivers another pulse-pounding, high-octane romantic suspense in Iron Willed Warrior, the fifth book in her Last Refuge Protectors series. From the moment former FBI agent Brynn Somerton partners up with rugged bounty hunter Cole Bailey, sparks fly. Their chemistry is undeniable, even as both try to keep their guard up, making their "fake" relationship feel far too real.
Brynn’s character stands out as a fierce, independent heroine with a no-nonsense attitude. Her transition from an FBI agent to a vigilante working outside the system brings complexity to her mission and creates tension with Cole, an ex-Army Ranger who thrives on working alone. The two are forced together on a dangerous undercover mission, but neither trusts the other. The push-pull dynamic between them adds tension, with the fake relationship trope heightening the stakes both romantically and in the plot.
Cole is a classic Shield hero: tough, brooding, and unwilling to show vulnerability. But his internal battle between wanting to keep secrets and protect Brynn creates a compelling emotional struggle. The chemistry between them is electric, with sizzling banter and plenty of steamy moments that add to the novel’s fast pace.
One of the standout elements of the book is the intricate plot. Shield expertly weaves together undercover operations, high-stakes action, and simmering romantic tension.
For fans of romantic suspense, Iron Willed Warrior hits all the right notes: a strong, dynamic heroine, a swoon-worthy hero, and a plot full of danger and intrigue. While it’s part of a series, the book stands on its own, though readers familiar with the Last Refuge Protectors will appreciate the depth Shield brings to her characters.
Iron Willed Warrior is a thrilling, heart-pounding read that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. Hannah Shield proves once again that she knows how to craft irresistible romance alongside edge-of-your-seat suspense.

I've been following this series and its characters from book 1—actually a little longer since book 1's hero made his appearance in the West Oaks series—and am wholeheartedly a fan. Though each book follows a different couple and has its own storyline, I do strongly recommend reading them in order. I recommend this in part because of the overarching Stillwater storyline that threads the series together and also because at least one of the main characters has appeared in prior books of the series. In this book, both protagonists are recurring, but reading book 4 is especially helpful in understanding Brynn. In fact, after reading the first few pages, I stopped and went back to reread book 4. No hardship… I adored Charlotte and River's story.
I really really like Brynn and Cole, and I enjoyed their story immensely. At first, I wasn't sure. They clashed, and I was worried it would be an antagonistic relationship for a while. But they quickly sorted that out, and their mutual respect for each other was very satisfying.
I do think we needed Brynn's backstory to be a little more than it was. She's supposedly been burned by love in the past and also had issues from growing up, but once explained, neither really had the impact it probably should have. In other words, they were more of a bummer than anything unusually damaging. Who doesn't have a crappy ex? Cole's ex sounds a little more crappy than most, but he's so well adjusted that it's hard to find much to stress about there either.
I was also a little confused about Brynn and her job. Did she really quit the FBI, or was that the cover story?
But overall, I really loved this couple, and it was great fun to watch their relationship progress. And, as usual, it was great to see everyone from the first few books again.
I received an ARC of this book for free from the author and BookSirens. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!
Brynn is the FBI agent that our Protectors have been working with in their investigation of the Stillwater criminal organization. Now that the investigation has uncovered significant intel on who is the head of Stillwater, it's time for Brynn to formally cut her ties with the FBI so she can go undercover without the bureaucratic strings restricting her investigation. But, she needs a partner she can trust, someone who is completely unknown to the Stillwater operatives they've already dealt with.
Aiden once again calls on his old friend, Cole, AKA Lynx, a bounty hunter who prefers to work alone and not in the United States. But Cole also has his own reasons for targeting Stillwater, so he's in - but he's got to figure out how to work with Brynn without either one of them being in charge.
I loved how both Brynn and Cole confounded each other's expectations, learning to trust and rely on each other especially when the investigation turns deadly. While this isn't the end of the series or the investigation into Stillwater, we still get a very satisfying conclusion to this part of the mission as well as a delightful HEA for our intrepid lovers.
The titles of the earlier books in this series clearly referred to the male main characters, but I have to say that in this book, the title ought to be plural as both Brynn and Cole prove to be indomitable warriors. The exciting third act went far beyond the thrills offered in the earlier books, and I cheered for every triumph no matter the cost.
The author indicates there's still more for this series, and I can't wait to read it all! I highly recommend this book as the best in the series so far. It's a standalone romance, but to really understand the ongoing investigation you're going to want to read the whole series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This book is book 5 in the Last Refuge Protectors, it can be read as a stand alone, but you will get more from the story if you start from the 1st book.
Cole is an ex army ranger, angry and distrustful after his unit was used as a scapegoat for the attack that killed his friends and caused the loss of his leg. Brynn is an ex (ish) FBI agent, who is equally distrustful, following the discovery of Stillwater moles in the bureau.
With the two of them having agreed to an 'off the books' undercover mission, a first meeting, complete with a misunderstanding, sets the stage for an uneasy partnership. However, both end up agreeing that, despite their reservations, the chance to take down Stillwater is worth the risk.
As the mission comes closer, both realise there seems to be more between them than just anger and lack of trust. Can the 2 work alone together to bring down the monster in charge of Stillwater?
I liked the chemistry between the 2 main characters and the risk vs reward of the mission. Brynn and Cole have to overcome their own issues, but once the mission is done will there be any trust left between them?
I've really enjoyed this whole series, every book has a lot more to offer, in terms of storyline, compared to the run of the mill romantic suspense. Once again a fast paced and throughly enjoyable read.
I will be eagerly waiting more from the Protectors.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I would probably recommend that this series be read in order. Each story is about a different couple but there is an interconnected story going on throughout the series.
So in the first few books, we learn about Stillwater. You will have to read to find out what or who that is. The Last Refuge Protectors are a vigilante group that go in and get Justice however they see fit and Stillwater is on their radar. It’s time to take them down.
Due to the other stories, Stillwater would know or recognize many of the Protectors so they call a friend in, Cole, to help out. They want to follow a lead and now is the time that they might be able to intercept the leader. So Cole is going to go undercover…with Brynn.
Brynn is a FBI agent usually, but in order to go undercover and off the books, she has technically resigned her position. The FBI has been looking for Stillwater but with so many people being paid off or double agents, no one knows who they can trust.
With Cole not trusting the FBI and Brynn not trusting the LRP they must find a way to put their differences aside, as they have the same goal. They go undercover as a couple and try to get to Stillwater. But like always, even when you have everything planned, something inevitably always goes wrong.
Such a great read. This whole series is so fun and entertaining. They get your attention at the very beginning and you don’t want to put it down until you know everything. Really good book and series.
Such a great series! Another winner from Hannah! Agent Brynn Somerton just resigned from the FBI. Her top secret assignment: going undercover to destroy a dangerous crime syndicate. According to the law, she’s now a vigilante. And that means working with the Last Refuge Protectors. They don’t trust each other. So they’ll have to fake it. But the deeper they get, the harder it is to tell the difference between the lies and the truth. And if they’re not careful, they’ll both get burned. I loved the dynamics between these two. They are sooo hot together! I fell in love with Cole from the very beginning and really liked Brynn, much more that I believed I would from the interactions in the previous book. She’s smart and capable, but loves deeply and with all her heart. The sexy times were of the chart and I loved how the fake dating was almost never really fake. There’s action, a lot of shooting, really mean guys and everything we needed to read this book in almost one sitting. I’ve read all of Hannah’s books and she never disappoints! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Book five in The Last Refuge Protectors series brought us a great story wrapping up the Stillwater mystery, with lots of suspense, action, and steam. I loved the attraction and connection between Cole, a bounty hunter who’s made his life south of the border, and Brynn an FBI special agent who loves to follow the rules. They have an instant spark that ignites once they are in close proximity. They team up as partners for an undercover op to take down the Stillwater organization and the evil man at the top. There was great tension between Cole and Brynn. Cole, while far from perfect is a protector at heart, even though he wants no part of commitment, he can’t help wanting to keep Brynn safe. She, however, is a warrior… competent to keep herself safe, and doesn’t need or want a man to do that for her.
Hannah Shield has created a fantastic world in Hartley, Colorado, although there are some strange happenings, I’d love to visit especially if there are heroes like Cole and the other Last Refuge Protectors. I was hooked from page one and Cole and Brynn’s meet-cute (or not so cute) had the right amount of friction between two people who were drawn to each other, right through the intrigue, suspense, action, and steam to the end. This whole series has been great, and I really enjoy the way Ms. Shield writes romantic suspense.
This book had it all, humor, romance, suspense, and action. It was non stop from page one and the chemistry between Cole and Brynn just added to the book as a whole. I liked that it had a bit of a different feel than the first four books, Cole and Brynn were largely on their own since they were undercover and it really brought their romance to the forefront.
Both Cole and Brynn had severe trust issues. Cole’s ex-wife left him when he lost his leg serving in the army and that really impacted his trust and his confidence that he could have anything lasting. Brynn had an equally bad breakup with an ex that claimed to never love her. They both had to learn how to trust each other, not only as lovers but as partners in their undercover op.
I really liked the suspense in this book. It had some good twists and surprises and I liked that it seemed to wrap up the Stillwater plot. I really enjoyed the ending and the way Cole and Brynn sorted their relationship out. They ended up being great communicators and I loved that they were able to talk instead of letting things get misconstrued.
Overall I loved this book. It was exciting from the beginning to the end. It was very well written and thought out. I especially enjoyed how quickly Cole and Brynn fell for each other.
I love these guys and gals who protect those who need it most Being the fifth book in this winning series, how can Ms. Shield keep coming up with inventive ways to get our MMC and FMC together?! In this one we are pairing the grumpy 40yo former Marine, Cole Bailey with former FBI agent, 33yo Brynn Somerton. The Last Refuge Protectors have been after the infamous organization Stillwater for a very long time. They have a chance to capture or kill its newly discovered leader, Garon Westwick using two people unknown to Stillwater. The organization does not know Cole as he spends most of his life in Mexico and Central America as a bounty hunter and where the climate is better for his missing leg which was a souvenir from his Marine days. They are going undercover as Cameron Clay, grumpy and overbearing manager to his young, vivacious influencer, Brianna Waverley who of course is Brynn. They have a plan but can they pull it off? Can they forget the new feelings percolating between them? Oh. My. Word. When it starts to get dicey undercover, I could not read fast enough to see how or if they get out of the predicament. And, who is the iron-willed warrior? It might surprise you. If you like thrilling page-turners with just the right amount of spice, read this book. I volunteered to review an ARC of it through BookSirens.
A HUGE Thank You to Hannah Shield for the incredible opportunity to receive an ARC copy and provide my honest review! ❤️
Iron Willed Warrior is the 5th installment of The Last Refuge Protectors Series and such a great read! I absolutely love Hannah Shield’s style of writing and how easy it is to fall in love with the characters! I love how fiercely protective the alpha male characters are as well as how independent and strong the female characters are; Cole and Brynn are no exception.
Cole and Brynn’s adventure picks up at the end of Second Chance Savior with River and Charlotte’s story. More information has been uncovered regarding the corrupt mastermind group Stillwater (a dangerous group linked to human trafficking, drug dealing and other dangerous crimes). Although their first interaction was a bit rocky, Brynn and Cole must learn to work go together, undercover and focus on their common enemy to destroy Stillwater.
As the story unfolds, the fast-paced adventure and the intense attraction keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the entirety of the book. I love how both MC’s have their own flaws and past issues but seem to work better together!.

Non-stop action, suspense and hot romance from the very first page! Special Agent Brynn Somerton has resigned from the FBI in order to accept an “off the books” mission. She hopes to finally take down Stillwater, a criminal organization that offers “services” on the dark web. She is to work with a friend of the Last Refuge Protectors, Cole “Lynx” Bailey, who is a former Army Ranger now bounty hunter. Their first meeting doesn’t go well, but will they finally accept the need to be equal partners in order for the mission to succeed? Their plan is to be a couple who attends a workshop given by the man who is in control of Stillwater, a seemingly happily married man with a family, but really a vicious criminal who destroys the lives of others. The attraction between them is electric as they fight the individual threats against them. Brynn catches the attention of Stillwater’s owner and he has plans for her once he removes Cole from the equation. Cole also has plans for Brynn and they involve taking down the organization and then maybe a permanent partnership for the two of them? A story and characters that will keep you turning the pages until the thrilling end! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
Iron Willed Warrior is the fifth installment in the Last Refuge Protectors series. Iron Willed Warrior is a fascinating take on a military romance that incorporate romantic suspense, fake relationships, from dislike to love, and having intervals of romantic thrills. Iron Willed Warrior follows the tale of Brynn and Cole, these two characters are well-developed and astonishingly well-executed throughout the book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Brynn and Cole’s story, and to be completely honest I don’t read very many military romance stories. However, Iron Willed Warrior has definitely shown me that military romance stories can be just as good as any other romance stories I read. Author Hannah Shield has definitely captured my attention with Iron Willed Warrior and has gained a new reader of her books. I’m looking forward to reading even more amazing romance stories from Author Hannah Shield. Iron Willed Warrior is certainly a book that I would suggest for anyone who loves reading military romances, I also would suggest to even readers who might not read very many military romances to checkout this book.

More Protectors action in this latest addition to the Last Refuge Protectors series. In this Cole & Brynn go undercover to continue the fight against Stillwater and the head of the organisation, Westwick. These two are both great characters who we get to know so much better through the course of this story, and they fit so well together. But the story is all about this big undercover mission they go on to get close to Westwick. There's plenty of action that's well paced to keep the story interesting, entertaining, and moving along, and of course the developing relationship between Cole and Brynn provides plenty of action as well! Plan A changes to Plan B, which goes all to hell and it looks like our heroes are in dire straits before opportunities present for Plan A to surprisingly come off in a way they couldn't have predicted before Plan B also get a positive outcome. While there are lots of little details and smaller plot lines, one of the strengths of Ms. Shield’s writing is that they get tied up eventually. There's a surprising conclusion to one of these right at the end of the story. I'm thoroughly enjoying this series and pleased to know that this isn't the end, looking forward to more adventures from the Protectors to come.
This action-packed, suspenseful book held my attention from the first page to the last. Brynn, an FBI agent who resigns from the agency to go undercover, is a familiar character from a previous book in this series. She is eager to aid in the downfall of the insidious crime syndicate, Stillwater, after they targeted her best friend. Her friend’s new husband is a member of the Last Resort Protectors, a group of ex military people who are working to protect those who can’t protect themselves. They have experience with Stillwater and one of them will be working undercover with Brynn.
Brynn and Cole do not get along at first, mostly because of a misunderstanding, but for other reasons as well. Both are aware of the sparks between them, but neither is eager to do anything about them since they have both been burned by an ex before. As they work together to bring down Stillwater, they grow to trust and depend on each other and those sparks begin to smouldering and flare. Their story includes plenty of heat, danger and suspense as well as some unexpected twists that make it enthralling.
I highly recommend this riveting book as well as the others in this serious.
❤️📖 This is the 5th book in the Last Refuge Protectors, release day October 9. 📖❤️
The story of Protectors and their fight against Stillwater goes on and with story of Cole and Brynn.
From the start when these two meet there are sparkless and fires and they have to work hard to be able to work together, only the chemistry and atractions are hard to fight and when you have to pretend to be a couple things get pretty complicated.
We get more inside how the whole Stillwater organization works and things get very dramatic, there is a lot of action and story has great tempo and as you start you soon find yourself at the ebd of the story and this time I can only guess who'll get another story and hope to get the next soon.
Cole and Brynn are another great couple, Cole has his issues and uncertainties and I love to read about Cole's POV what he felt and thought and I loved to see Brynn as strong woman who do what she loves and believes in and won't allow no one to bring her down and make her feel less.
Another strong, compelling story in the Last Protector’s series. Initially, Brynn/Brianna and Cole/Cameron were prickly and combative with each other as they fought over who was going to be top dog on their undercover mission.
Once the dust settled on the dynamics of their partnership and the undercover mission got underway, the story quickly heated up. The tension between them went from undercover role playing a fake relationship to a sizzle hot real connection. The storyline become suspenseful and promised to provide the answers to the workings of the Stillwater organization.
Brynn is a tough, accomplished FBI special agent who resigns her position to go undercover. She’s smart, independent and doesn’t trust easily. Watching her become comfortable with Cole after their initial rocky introduction was enjoyable. Cole also has a tough outer shell to protect himself from more betrayal and hurt. These two both fit the iron willed warrior moniker.

**I received a free ARC from BookSirens. My review is honest and my own opinion.** I went through and read the other reviews before writing this...yes, I cheated. And there was a lady who said that you needed to read the previous books in the series to completely understand the FMC, Brynn. Now, this is "allegedly" a stand-alone. What I discovered is: 1) Yes, it's a stand-alone, but there is an overarching storyline throughout the series. 2) At the beginning, I hated Brynn, despised her, thought she was a bad word. Once the author (I am assuming, re-explained) part of her backstory, it still seemed a bit over the top, but it made more sense. 3) The final half of this book is just NON-STOP. And I adored every bit of it. 4) I have nothing mean to say about Cole...he pretty much carried the book while I was hating on Brynn.
So, yes, great story. Yes, can be read alone. Be kind to Brynn and give her some grace, she gets better. And enjoy the coaster at the end.
Iron Willed Warrior is the 5th book in the Last Refuge Protectors series and because of the underlying suspense plot should be read in order. The romance part stands on its own, though. Cole and Brynn are both very strong characters and there's not just one iron willed warrior but two! When they team up against the bad guys, they are an absolute power couple! Their attraction is instant, but shadows from their pasts cloud their feeelings and it takes time and a deadly attack or two for them to develop trust and ultimately find their true partner in the other. An action-filled page-turner with lots of surprises and a happy ending for the couple, although it was more a HFN. Since more books in the series are promised, I hope we'll catch up with them living their HEA later!.

Iron Willed Warrior is the 5th book in the Last Refuge series and while these books can be read as standalones there is an underlying theme that continues to add to the storyline. Reading these books in order will lend more credence to the story and make it flow perfectly. Because the Last Refuge Protectors are known to the Stillwater hierarchy they bring in Cole an ex-army ranger who lost his leg in battle. He has personal reasons to bring down Stillwater. This is really Cole and Brynn's story and it is full of danger, human trafficking, bribery, blackmail, mistrust and heat. As the lies become truth and the truth becomes lies it is hard for them to keep their feelings to themselves. This author can make you feel everything the characters are feeling and you will truly love the main characters. If you haven't read this author I highly recommend her work.
Great latest book in the ‘Last Refuge Protectors’ series. Whilst all the books are essentially stand-alone, they are better read in order as there is a common ‘enemy’ that runs through them. This one focuses on Brynn (an FBI agent) & Cole a ‘Protector’ and bounty hunter. The two go under-cover to bring down the leader of their common enemy – the Stillwater organisation. After an inauspicious start where the chemistry between them is palpable, they embark on a dangerous game to draw out their high-profile target with their lives on the line. I loved that the action is addictive and the two are really likeable characters. There is a lot of steam and the story is well-written and the narrative flows well – drawing the reader into the highs and lows of the plot. A really enjoyable romantic thriller; Hannah Shield never disappoints!
Brynn is leaving the FBI to go undercover to try to get the head of Stillwater, Cole has been asked by the Protectors to go undercover with her, as her manager and also boyfriend. He's not happy about it at all, he doesn't like the fact that the FBI has to stay within the law, when all he wants to do is kill the man! They butt heads, mainly because they find each other really attractive, and Cole wants to protect Brynn, which as an ex Marine, she is definitely not happy with! As they send more time together the attraction increases, but they have to go with the plan to get this man and stop the horrendous things that Stillwater do. I loved that the Iron Willed Warrior is Brynn and not Cole!
