Marriage of convenience is my favorite trope, so I knew I’d like this book, and I really did! It’s a slow-burn romance, but since the marriage was supposed to be practical, not about love, it takes time. But it’s definitely worth it.
Emma is widowed with triplets and has a farm and store to run. Before her husband passed away, he asked his best friend, Carter, to help her. Carter has been supporting her and the kids, but when Emma needs better insurance for one of the kids, they agree to a marriage of convenience. Emma promises she’ll never love anyone but her late husband, and Carter doesn’t want to fall in love again. But as they spend more time together, things start to change. Emma feels guilty about falling for Carter, and Carter thinks it’s wrong to fall for his best friend’s wife. Can they both take the risk and turn this into something more?
I really enjoyed this story! It was sweet, and Carter was amazing from the start, especially as her husband. Their nervousness about their feelings felt real, and watching their chemistry grow was so nice. Such a heartwarming story!
I give this 4.5 stars, rounded to 5 stars!
I received a complimentary copy. This review reflects my honest opinion.
This sweet marriage of convenience story was unique. Both Emma, Carter, and Emma’s late husband had been friends for many years. Emma and Carter had no romantic feelings for each other prior to the marriage and entered into it only because of the need for insurance to cover medicine for one of Emma’s children.
Even as the book began to progress, these two had more of a working relationship merged with friendship. Emma shielded herself and had trust issues, always trying to solve situations on her own, a throwback to her life in foster care. It created some trouble between herself and Carter, especially as their feelings began to grow into more than friendship. And that, itself, also caused tension. Emma was very resistant to the idea of moving on from her husband. She had been deeply in love with him and the idea of allowing someone else into her heart felt like she was betraying him. I appreciated the way her sister-in-law helped her work through those feelings.
There were many sweet moments in the story, especially with the main characters’ interactions with the triplets. It was fun to see this new little family come together.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Oh wow!! I absolutely love this marriage of convenience story!! It's unique because of little Addie needing insurance for a very expensive medicine. A sweet, heartwarming, second chances, small town, faith, hope, family, friendship, becoming a daddy, and finding unexpected love story!! I've read all of this authors stories, but this one is one of my very favorite!! I love how Carter McCaw has a heart of gold!! The sweet, adorable triplets totally stole my heart!! I couldn't put this book down!! I wish instead of five stars I could give ten stars!! I didn't want this story to end!! A must read!! I was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I have read several books by this author. She is on my list of authors that I will read even without reading what the books are about. This is a marriage of convenience plot, but the reason is unique. I do not think I have read a marriage of convenience novel where the reason was for insurance purposes. I also thought it interesting the reasons that both characters had for not wanting to get married for love in the future so it made the marriage of convenience not as big of a deal for them. I thought the three year old triplets were adorable and added a lot of great parts to this novel. Overall, this book was a well-written romance that I would one hundred percent recommend.

Emma Bailey is a widowed mother raising three-year-old triplets. One of them, Addie, has medical issues, and her insurance doesn’t cover the medicine she needs. Carter, her late husband's best friend, brings up the idea of a marriage of convenience so Emma can get the insurance coverage Addie requires. He even has a list of people to recommend, but Emma wants to do this with someone she trusts—and that person is Carter.
What I really appreciate about this book is how Emma and Carter approach the marriage of convenience - not just practically but also by seeking God’s will. They even talked to their pastor, asking if they were still honoring marriage if their commitment wasn’t about love but about meeting a need. They plan to stay together forever because they respect the sanctity of marriage, but neither of them wants a romantic relationship because of past hurts.
Given how difficult insurance is, especially in the U.S., this storyline feels so germane. I could absolutely see this happening in real life just because of the circumstances so many people face. I really liked how the author showed Emma and Carter’s struggles—not just with their situation but with the possibility that maybe there was more between them than just a friend helping a friend.
I adore both main characters equally. Their strengths made sense based on their backgrounds. I couldn’t personally relate to everything Emma was going through—like being an orphan—but I could understand how this impacted her relationships and made it hard for her to accept any feelings she might have for Carter. And Carter’s own medical struggles really shaped how he lived his life, which felt very real.
This is a touching and relevant read with just the right amount of sweetness. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves small-town romance, Love Inspired books, or stories that show how God can glorify any type of marriage.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This in no way impacted my review. All thoughts are my own.
The Farmers Marriage Bargain Heidi Main Published by Love Inspired
They agreed to a practical marriage, but love never goes as planned.
Marriage of convenience at its best.
Emma, the FMC, married her late husband’s best friend, so that she could afford the medicine for her youngest triplet needed.
I cannot imagine being an Emma’s shoes. Carter the MMC was there for Emma and the kids. He truly only wanted what was best for them. He was the support and the rock that she needed during a time like that.
I absolutely loved seeing their relationship play out. It was sweet and heartwarming and I can totally see how and why their relationship worked out.
This was a quick sweet inspirational romance, that I highly recommend.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
The Farmer’s Marriage Bargain is such a sweet romance you won’t want to miss out on. It’s labeled as inspirational and it is exactly that in every aspect! Carter was such an admirable gentleman of a main male character, and I just appreciated his sweetness and chivalry so much in my heart. Emma was such a strong and fierce main female character but yet she also displayed sincereness of having a tender heart. The two of them together plus a marriage of convenience as well as a small town, farm life setting = just the best! This was such a sweet and emotionally uplifting story.
A heartwarming tale of two old friends, each with a broken heart, who find love and happiness together after initially agreeing to a marriage of convenience for business reasons . . .
Emma Bailey is courageously trying to raise her three-year-old triplets alone after the tragic death of her young husband. When her youngest child is diagnosed with a serious auto-immune disease, Emma is unable to locate health insurance that will cover the crucial medications the little girl needs.
In order to be able to afford the medications, Emma is seriously considering selling the small goat farm that her late husband and she had purchased a few years earlier. She has difficulty accepting the fact that she may lose the dream that her husband had worked so hard to attain.
Carter McCaw, Emma's husband's best friend, is a stand-up man who made a promise to Robbie Bailey that he would watch over Emma and the triplets. Carter has kept his promise; and when he learns of Emma's latest dilemma, he offers to marry Emma so that she and the children can be covered under his excellent health care plan through his employer.
As Emma relents to the fact that she has few or no alternatives, the two are married in a civil ceremony and appear in public as husband and wife. Only Carter's family members know the true purpose of the marriage.
As the story progresses, some negative events allow Carter to prove himself to be a loving man in his role as Emma's husband and the children's father . . .
This story is completely clean in language and content. The faith thread is tightly woven into the story. The positive messages of overcoming obstacles and learning to love again are embellished with children's escapades, goat adventures, and humor which make this book a winner in the contemporary inspirational romance genre.

I am so happy for another Triple C Ranch series story! In The Farmer's Marriage Bargain, by author Heidi Main, we meet Emma Bailey, widowed mother to three-year-old adorable triplets. One of the children needs expensive medication, which puts the future of the farm that was Emma and her husband's dream into uncertain territory. Enter Carter McCaw (you met his sister Autumn in "Her Loyal Companion"), affectionately known as "Unkie C". A confirmed "bachelor until the rapture", he's been watching over Emma and the kids since his best friend's death, but he's about to step up in a way like never before. He's got a golden insurance plan that Emma needs, and there's only one way to get them on it. I really enjoy marriage of convenience tropes. These two adults are willing to commit for life for the sake of the children's needs. There's no solid footing starting this marriage off, but is it possible the love in their hearts for the children might just flow over to each other? Could the Lord be slowly dismantling emotional walls and burdens to make a beautiful new path for Carter and Emma...together? You will definitely want to find out, plus you know I'm overjoyed when I get an epilogue, and this one is a doozy! I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.
I have read several books by Heidi Main, and they’re always so heartwarming! The Farmer’s Marriage Bargain is the latest book in her Triple C Ranch series, and I absolutely loved it! (Please note that each book in the series can be read as a standalone!) This marriage of convenience book kept me flipping the pages as Emma and Carter’s friendship developed into more than what they bargained for.
When Emma’s husband died, she was left to raise their triplets and run their goat farm on her own. She probably could have made her finances work on his survivor’s benefits and profit from the farm store, but one of the triplets developed a condition which was only responding to a really expensive medicine that their bare bones insurance wouldn’t pay for. Since Carter was her late husband’s best friend, he wants to find a solution for the family and starts thinking of eligible bachelors that Emma could marry, so the family would have good insurance. Emma eventually thinks it’s a good idea too; however, she will only agree to it if it’s Carter that she marries. Neither of them have plans to ever get married, so marrying as friends becomes the solution.
It’s been a while since I’ve read a marriage of convenience book. Main creates an incredibly believable plot in The Farmer’s Marriage Bargain. Emma and Carter talk to the pastor about their idea for a marriage of convenience to ask if it’s Biblical. He made them consider the fact that the triplets would one day fly the nest, and assured them that as long as they planned to honor their marriage covenant the rest of their lives that it would be Biblical. Of course, the pastor could see that there was no way these two wouldn’t fall in love!
I adored the triplets, yet I am so glad I only had one baby at a time! I loved the connection Carter already had with the triplets, and watching their bond grow was so sweet. Of course, my favorite part was seeing Emma and Carter fall in love. They both made sacrifices for the other which is how any marriage should work. I just loved this sweet love story, and I highly recommend it! 5 huge stars!

A Hallmark-style small town, family focused, marriage of convenience, slow-burn romance story that readers will thoroughly enjoy!! A unique situation where the marriage of convenience is needed due to a medical issue. Readers will fall in love with Emma and Carter and of course Emma's sweet kids. A beautiful story of faith, family, and unexpected love!!

The Farmer’s Marriage Bargain is a solid addition to the Triple C Ranch series. Set in Serenity, Texas, the well-paced plot, featuring a rather unique marriage of convenience, drew me in quickly and kept me reading and totally immersed to the end. I became emotionally involved with the relatable main characters, their real-life struggles, and the outcome of their story. I could feel their anxiety and pain as Emma struggles with financial woes and trust issues and Carter with arthritis and the feeling of not being enough for Emma and the triplets. Carter is my favorite character. I so admired his persistence in being involved, thoughtful, and helpful in his efforts to be a good husband and father despite his physical limitations and Emma’s resistance and insistence on being self-reliant. I found myself far more empathetic to Carter than to Emma who could not let go of the past and move on with her life. The question I kept asking myself was, “Will Emma’s secrets, fierce independence, and clinging to her deceased husband’s memory thwart their budding romantic relationship?” I appreciate that Carter and Emma sought to make decisions in line with their faith and demonstrated the importance of prayer and seeking God’s will. I totally enjoyed this story and highly recommend it. Note: Even though it is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A marriage of convenience is my favorite trope. There is just something that is special when it is a modern day telling versus a historical or fantasy. Don't get me wrong, those are my favorites, but when an author can pull that trope off in a modern day setting and it fits, let me tell you I highly enjoy it.
Widow Emma is a single parent to her three-year-old triplets while trying to keep her and her late husband's goat farm operational and open. Unfortunately, one of her children is dealing with arthritis that needs a special medication to relieve symptoms and pain. Emma cannot afford the astronomical prices, and her insurance will not cover it.
In steps Carter who knows a thing or two about joint pain, and it just so happens his insurance will cover that expensive medication. He also is keeping an eye on Emma and her children as he was best friends with her husband. Now, the best plan they come up with between them is a marriage of convenience, a simple business arrangement between them. However, it is not so simple after all.
This was a great story that shows the merits of marriage, the walking with a partner for life in the way God intended. The sharing of trials and triumphs. Carter and Emma have a somewhat bumpy road to maneuver but their already friendship and unbeknownst to them, blooming love will see them through.
I was provided a copy of this novel by the author. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.
This was such a sweet story. I was drawn to it because it’s a marriage of convenience story, and I absolutely love those. Although most of the ones I’ve read before were marriages of convenience out on the frontier. This is a contemporary story where a young widow with 3 year old triplets agrees to marry her late husband’s best friend for insurance purposes. One of Emma’s children has a disease that requires very expensive medication, and she cannot afford it without selling her home to pay for it. So Carter marries her so the family can be added to his health insurance policy. It’s such an interesting premise.
The thing I loved most about this story is the animals and the farm life. Emma owns a goat farm (a ranch, as she calls it) with a small storefront where she sells her goat milk along with homemade treats and other consigned goods from the local community. Carter immerses himself into the farm life right away and I loved his enthusiasm for feeding the animals, property upkeep, and helping with care of the children. He is an attentive father to the triplets, having always wanted to be a father, so together they make a great family unit. There’s just that nagging issue of not being in love with one another—
Emma has to work past the guilt of marrying again and eventually having romantic feelings for her husband. Carter has to work thru trust issues from a past relationship that broke his heart. It’s a slow process, but the two were friends before they married, so they have their friendship to build on. They both did a wonderful job honoring Emma’s late husband and also being respectful of one another’s boundaries. However once they both learn to open their hearts and let love in again, it was so sweet to see them realize that their marriage could be so much more fulfilling.
It’s a great book, and the fourth in a series. I made out just fine not having read the previous books before this one, but I want to quickly circle back and read the book immediately before this one, featuring Carter’s sister Autumn, who is a dog trainer. I looove romances with dogs in them. Autumn trained the two Great Pyrenees dogs that work on the farm to protect the goats from coyotes.
Great story, I loved it. I received a digital copy for review from the publisher via NetGalley. I wasn’t required to write a positive review, but I did because I loved this story so much. Thank you, Harlequin Love Inspired!
While the marriage of convenience trope is not usually my favorite, this one ultimately won me over. I loved that Emma and Carter had a history that connected them, the premise that they married under, and the way their relationship developed. But I especially loved the three little ones and how they fit into everything.
The story is full of love, hope, family, overcoming, and faith. It is also about letting go of what we know and being comfortable with being open to God's leading to a new and unexpected path. Each element played a very special part in Emma and Carter's relationship that made theirs a very lovely, profound, and deeply felt story that was a joy to read and one that I recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary copy. All comments and opinions are voluntary and completely my own.
The Farmer’s Marriage Bargain by Heidi Main, book four in the Triple C Ranch series, is a heartwarming, marriage of convenience between a widow and her husband’s best friend. Emma is widowed with three-year old triplets and has a farm and store to run. Before her husband passed away, he asked his best friend, Carter, to help her. Carter has been supporting her and the kids as he could, but when Emma can no longer afford the medication for one of the triplets, Carter suggests that they enter into a marriage of convenience; as his insurance would cover the medication. Emma believes that she could never love anyone but her late husband, and after being hurt before Carter doesn’t want to fall in love again. Only the more time they spend together, the more their feelings for each other grow. Emma feels guilty about falling for Carter, while Carter thinks it’s wrong to fall for his best friend’s wife. It’s going to take some a deep conversation, honesty, and trust before these two overcome obstacles on the way to being a true family.
I enjoyed this story but as this was the first book in the series I’ve read, I felt as if I’ve missed a few details that might have been explained in the earlier books. Carter was amazing from the start, especially as her husband. Their nervousness about their feelings felt real, and watching their chemistry grow was so nice. There were many sweet moments in the story, especially with Carter’s and Emma’s interactions with the triplets. It was fun to watch this new little family come together.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. #NetGalley #Harlequin # TheFarmersMarriageBargain
The Farmer’s Marriage Bargain by Heidi Main. This is my first book I have read by this author and I loved it! Emma married Robbie the love of her life and had triplets, Mikey, Cassie and Addie. When Robbie dies and shortly after Addie becomes sick and is diagnosed with juvenile arthritis the hospital bills and medicine that she needs is overwhelming. Carter was Robbie’s best friend ands he asked Carter to take care of his family. Carter proposes marriage of convenience so Addie can have his gold plan insurance. This is a must read. Thank you to #NetGalley, #Harlequin-Romance and the author for this arc book. This is my honest opinion. Releases April 1, 2025
widowed mother emma bailey never expected to marry again, and carter mccaw never wanted to burden anyone with his medical condition. yet, when one of her triplets needs medication she can't afford, carter offers his health insurance—via a marriage of convenience...
i liked seeing that they entered the marriage with intention and clarity, planning to stay married regardless of their feelings, no option for divorce later on. still, both emma and carter have their own hangups to work through, as they try to make their friendship-based marriage work. emma struggles to accept help, while carter struggles his past rejection because of his diagnosis. at times, they seem to resist the changes a little too much, but thankfully, they don't stay stuck forever. to complicate the situation more, of course, their feelings grow, and it's sweet to see how emma and carter tackle the challenges before them and realize that embracing a life different than the one they expected isn't such a bad thing.
the farmer's marriage bargain is a quick, easy read. fans of small-town contemporary romance could really enjoy this one.
(i received a complimentary copy from the author. i was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions i have expressed are my own.)
considerations: —language: none —spice: kisses only —faith: mentions of God, prayer, and church —content: chronic condition, mentions of spousal loss
I love these Love Inspired books with their elements of faith, hope and love that flow through every page. I loved this book so much! It was a heartwarming read with a realistic and interesting storyline. Heidi Mann always writes well and entertaining stories. The main characters have many layers and each has been hurt in the past so they have some obstacles to get over, under and through. This story really touched my heart. It had me rooting for Carter and Emma to find contentment and happiness with each other and overcoming the their pasts to build a family full of love even though they started out as a marriage of convenience. I loved that they were friends first and enjoyed seeing their relationship grow and evolve. This was an inspirational read with a wonderful HEA. You will love this sweet and enjoyable book!.
Emma and Carter's story is sweet and heartwarming with a marriage of convenience, triplets and a herd of goats! Moments of laughter and even shed a couple tears of joy.
The Farmer’s Marriage Bargain by Heidi Main is the latest book in her Triple C Ranch series. This is my favorite so far, but all the other books in the series are great too. I love marriage of convenience stories. Emma Bailey has 3 adorable triplets. Unfortunately, her husband has died and left her alone to run their goat farm. One of the triplets needs expensive medicine that she simply can’t afford. Carter McCaw was her hubby’s best friend. He promised to watch over them. His health insurance will pay for the child’s medicine, but only if they are married. So Emma & Carter get married. You’ll have to read the rest. It was such a cute book with the two trying to deny their feelings for each other. You also have cute goats, cute dogs, and some cute triplets. I loved reading about how these two go from friends to loves. It’s a cute story that will have you laughing, crying, and a little frustration at times. I can’t wait for another Triple C ranch book. I was given a copy, but all opinions are my very own.
This was so good!! I love marriage of convenience stories, and this was so good!! Emma has known Carter for six years, as he was her husband's best friend. Now that she's raising their triplets alone, Carter has stepped up to help. When Emma find she can't afford her youngest child's medication, Carter proposes a marriage of convenience. Carter loves the triplets, and he's fond of Emma. When he's at Jubilee Farm 24/7, he and Emma become a great team working the farm and being with the triplets. When he falls for Emma, he's sure she can never fall for him, and when it seems that he's right, he withdraws. Emma thinks Carter has stepped back from her because he can't feel for her the love she now feels for him. When Carter realizes he's letting fear rule his life, and when Emma realizes she's had an unhealthy attitude toward her deceased husband, will it be too late for these two, or will it be the start of something better than they ever imagined for themselves? I love how both realize God has something better for them than they thought possible.
What a sweet read! Heidi Main writes such a heartwarming story! This is well written and has a good storyline, good characters, and has cute children and animals! This story also enlightens the reader about arthritis pain.
Emma Bailey is a young widow with three year old triplets. Little Addie has a health condition that requires special medicine that Emma can’t afford. She has maxed out her credit card and is at wits end to figure out what she is going to do. She has already sold this year’s goat “crop” and will have to hope her farm store can cover her expenses.
Carter McCaw was Emma’s late husband, Robbie’s best friend. He made a promise to Robbie that he would take care of Emma and the children. In learning of Emma’s dilemma about the medicine, he suggests she marry someone with the insurance that will cover it. He just happens to have such insurance and proposes a marriage of convenience.
The Farmer's Marriage Bargain by Heidi Main! This was such a great book and another Triple C Ranch Novel That will keep you enjoying the story with every page you read! As Emma Bailey has lost her husband and has to raise her children on her own can she trust her heart again with her late husband's best friend Carter McCaw who promised to always be there to help his friend's family! This is such a wonderful story I highly recommend this book! I was given a complimentary copy and this is my own honest opinion!
