January 29, 2025This has so much potential but it felt unfinished to me. I enjoyed it as I read and it kept me interested. It felt like there was so much we were missing. I think the book just needed to be longer to give us a little bit more information. I will be reading book 2 in the hopes that the set up of this one is fleshed out more as the plot progresses.
I really enjoyed the bones of it so I'll be checking out some of the author's other work as well but unfortunately this one left me feeling a little disappointed.

The Chaos Weaver was really good! The first chapter had me sucked into the story, the action in this book kept me hooked and I love how Everly‘s character built throughout the book. This is more character and plot-heavy than romance which isn’t a bad thing for me! Towards the second half of the book you get more of those romantasy vibes. It left on a slight cliffhanger and I can’t wait for the next book in this series!!

The Chaos Weaver is a journey that throws us & our heroine Everly into a world of magic, monsters, & mystery. Through this story, the author Aubrey, shows what some people will do for money, for family, or for power. I thought the world building in this book was fantastic! I felt like I was right there along side Everly in awe of everything going on around her, trying to make sense of it all. I felt her heartache & her anxiety throughout the book and made me connect with her through the descriptive writing. I do feel like the pacing was a little slower in the beginning but it was still a very quick read for me! The ending though… whew what a cliffhanger! Overall, I really enjoyed this book! I think (?) it’s the first in a series so I’m excited to see what happens to our heroine next!

I was blessed enough to be an ARC reader for this book and I cannot say how much I enjoyed this story!
The FMC is a caring and innocent human making the most of her terrible situations and growing in her strength as she gets more confident in a world not her own.
The characters have personality that really lets you feel about them, certain characters have your back up and make you wonder what their end game is and others seem so caring but have to remain hidden in their approach to helping.
The writing is immersive and creative with the magic system being a huge draw! Chaos the power within us all is so fun and exciting I cannot wait to read more!
The ending with a huge cliffhanger and more questions than answers is making me desperately claw for the next book.

A nice easy read! Still a lot of unanswered questions, and enjoyed the cliff hanger feeling of who do I really trust? I think the FMC will go on a huge self discovery journey which I am here for.

I have mixed feelings about this book... The first half and the world-building I really enjoyed but the book is very, very short and I feel like it suffered for it. Parts of it, especially in the second half, were very rushed--not to the point where anything was confusing but where I just found I wasn't particularly invested.
The FMC also feels like she had backwards character growth. At the beginning, she has a temper that she admits has gotten her into trouble more than once. But instead of finding her feet and her strength, she instead becomes a door mat and let's everyone walk all over her just so she doesn't cause trouble with her voice and thoughts. Her friend betrays her secrets and she writes it off as fine so long as she doesn't give her cause to be jealous because she doesn't want to be alone. The King is manipulative and shady af and she goes from terrified of him to banging him in the course of a day just because he called her special. The only character that seemed to have any depth is Selene but again, the book is so short you don't really learn anything about anyone.
I also had issue with "skies" suddenly appearing as a phrase like one would say "gods" about 2/3 into the book. Maybe it would have made sense as slang from the new realm but the FMC uses it first out of nowhere and it just seems odd considering she's from a different place.
I also lost my shit at "tongues battling for dominance" during the spicy scene. Fanfiction readers will know. I had a loud cackle and then found myself skimming the rest of the scene because it just totally lost me with how juvenile it sounded.

Just finished reading an advanced copy of a book that was just released on January 31st called, The Chaos Weaver. This was about Everly, whose twin brother is taken into a portal to another realm by a dragon so she immediately follows after them. She is almost immediately attacked by beasts in the forest, she is saved by two knights and then taken to the castle to be employed there as a servant. She finds out she is now in the realm she heard about growing up but thought the stories were no more than just the stories people made up and told children to keep them in line. But that realm is real and she's now in it, it's a realm of castles, knights, dragons, and magic. But all she wants to do is find a moment to escape the castle unnoticed and go find her brother. But when she is attacked again by beasts, her presence is immediately requested by none other than the king himself. This romantasy leaned more towards fantasy than romance, it had really great and descriptive world building, the characters were well thought out and had depth. This was a really enjoyable story, with a cliffhanger that has me very eager for the next book! 💜📚

Royalty 👑. Magic 🪄- unique magic system with dragons 🐉 and something similar to necromancers 🧟♂️. I was hooked on this and finished in almost one sitting. Thank god I have the 2nd book via an ARC read because I would be so impatient for the next one. Can’t share too much without spoilers but highly recommend if you are fantasy fan and love a storyline about family loyalty and doing anything for those you love.

I received this book for free, as an arc reader for the 2nd one of the series!! The author kindly provided the 1st as well for those of us who were new to the fandom.
I went in only knowing that it’s about a set of twins and it has magic and dragons!! I have to say it was a slow start and it took around 1/3 of the book to actually get a sense of what’s happening and to be interested, but due to the way it was written reading was flowing.
When we finally got some real action I was hooked! I found her relationship with the king, rather absurdly rushed but it’s later explained, at least from his perspective cause Everly should have known better..
Anyway enjoy the spice for now…😉
The biggest sock was the ending, it was cut off so suddenly that for a bit I was certain I skipped the epilogue or something!! I feel very sorry for the people that read it without having the next one like I did!!

This book has a unique and intriguing premise, and while it took me a little while to get into it, the second half really picked up. Everly, the FMC, often felt naïve and younger than expected, which made her harder to connect with at times. I’m can’t remember if her age was ever mentioned. But the worldbuilding and political tension kept me hooked. I don’t trust the king or Ama one bit. I’m still on the fence about Tarin. And that cliffhanger? Absolute perfection. Just came out of nowhere like “wtf?!” I’ll definitely be picking up the sequel

I was asked to give an honest review so here it goes. MY REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!
I want to start by saying that I DID like the book. But I didn't LOVE it. I do think however, that with more books coming, I'll grow to love this one more. If each installment has this much plot progression, I could easily see myself enjoying a reread of this one.
I really enjoyed the NEWNESS of the MCs magic. I liked the way everyone was described, it was easy to picture everything vividly.
The book is written SO WELL! The characters personalities stand out, each of them.
Even minor characters leave an impact. There's also lots of, what feels like, foreshadowing for future books and twists. I really did love the writing itself. Aside from the one (extremely random and unnecessary in my opinion) smut scene, this book honestly reads like a YA novel.
But I do have a few issues with the story.
My biggest one is we don't find out the MCs name until chapter 6. Speaking of the MC... I really dislike her. She's extremely needy and just doesn't THINK. She's irrational and a bit stupid in my opinion. She continuously CHOOSES to ignore her intuition and what she knows to be safe choices. She also cries, constantly.
Also the whole king thing. Seriously? He buys her some stuff at a market and all of a sudden she's horny for him? We're just going to ignore all the warnings and suddenly fall head over heels for a man who supposedly terrified you mere hours prior?
The book could've done without that entire scene in my complete honesty opinion. It would've been better without it. If it needed to happen, it happened ENTIRELY too fast and without enough build up.
BUT, even with these issues I have with the MC, I am looking forward to the next book. Sometimes the best written characters are the ones we hate. Those will stick with you. I'm praying for lots of character growth with our MC and I'm excited to see where the plot goes.
I would recommend this book to someone who wants a quick read. I'll probably buy a copy for my 16 year old because this is right up his alley. All in all 4/5★

I really enjoy Aubrey’s work and her writing style. This book had me hooked when she described it to me before release and I knew I needed to read it.
Aubrey does a great job of taking typical tropes or magical systems and twisting them to make them new and fit her worlds. I love how interesting they can be.
I cannot wait to read the second book.

The chaos weaver is a quick and easy romantasy read. I loved the fmc and the world building with dragons and other creatures. Tropes that I liked in this book: slow burn, one bed and chosen one. Although I liked the slow pace of this book, the beginning of this story felt almost too slow while the ending felt too fast. I find it interesting that I didn't know who to trust, especially because of the cliffhanger. This book is a great introduction to a new series and definitely makes me want to continue reading.

I was fortunate enough to get an Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) for this book, and really enjoyed it. Following Everly's journey and discovering her unknowing powers was exciting. I look forward to the next book and seeing the development of Everly's power and overall character development. Also i love a One bed trope. It is not overly heavy on the romance but I believe there might be more to come in future books.

This story had me hooked from the very beginning. We’ve got two siblings just trying to survive in a world without magic, where status basically rules your entire life. If you’re not royal or running a market stall, you’re stuck in poverty. When Julien, the brother, gets offered a shady heist he can’t turn down, things spiral fast, and suddenly the siblings are dragged into a whole new world. Of course, nothing goes smoothly, so they’re separated right from the start.
Everly, the sister, almost gets killed the second she arrives, so I thought this was going to be an all-action, nonstop kind of story. But after the first third of the novel, it shifts more into adventure and exploration as Everly learns about this strange new land and crosses paths with its royalty.
Here’s the thing, every single character she meets, from castle servants to the King himself, gave me weird vibes. Something just feels off with almost everyone, and I couldn’t stop reading to see if I was imagining it or if it would all unravel later.
Now I’m dying for the next book. I need answers, I want more of the worldbuilding, and I cannot wait to see what happens with the magic.
Most importantly, where is Julien?

Read as a first book to the ARC of the second. I wasn’t expecting much but I really enjoyed it!! I think Everly is a little naive but I hope this gets addressed in the second book. She needs to come into her powers. I feel like Aldrin is nefarious and I like how I am not able to guess whats going to happen next. Now onto the ARC of book 2.

I read this book as an ARC reader. I was hooked after the first couple of chapters and the plot was very interesting. I do wish that there was more backstory to some of the characters, but I’m going to assume that the next book might give more insight. Overall, I enjoyed reading this Chaos Weaver and can’t wait to read the next two books!

I really enjoyed this book. it helped with a 7 month reading slump and read it in a few days after receiving it. it catches you in the beginning, and you dont want to stop reading. I can't wait to read book two.

So on social media the author was giving people the opportunity to sign up for an Advance Reader Copy. At her mention of necromancy and a mysterious king, I immediately signed up. And I got an ARC!
This is a really cool read!
I loved Everly from the start. She and her twin brother had a bad start in life and are surviving by conning people and stealing. I didn't really like her brother, but to Everly he is the world. So I could understand she follows and wants to do anything to get him back when a dragon drags him off to another world.
I really enjoyed getting to know this other world together with Everly. She immediately lands in trouble, manages to get out of it, to fall in the next mess. At times she is a bit too trusting, but as the world she landed in has very different rules and she's on her own for the first time in her life, I could understand .
And then there's the mysterious king!
Without giving away too much I can tell you he was my favorite character (although long time blog followers might be fearing for his life now, I know I do).
The ending although not a complete cliffhanger was exciting, leaving lots of questions, and made me hungry for more!
I might need to get this in print when it releases (ebook releases January 31st, go preorder!), and I already got a book from another series by this author to try soon.

TL;DR Everly's brother gets taken by a dragon into another realm and Everly panic follows them into said realm to try to get him back. Once she gets here, she's taken to the castle to work as a servant before discovering she has magical necromancy style powers. Now she must train to hone these powers, learn about her past, and try to find her brother in this new world

** The magic system is very unique compared to anything I've read. Essentially, she's a form of a necromancer who can bring back animals to protect and fight on her behalf when she's has strong emotions. Could be useful IRL. The magic was also based on having a dragon and using one of the dragons scales to wield magic.

** The inner dialogue.... We get ALOT of Everly's inner dialogue throughout this book and she tends to be very repetitive or constantly contradicts herself. I value inner dialogue in books but only when there are equal parts (is it outer dialogue?) her interacting with other people
** Relationship building between characters was not very strong at all and felt very surface level. The descriptions and (actual) dialogue we get on the page between the characters didn't align with the relationship's Everly suddenly felt she had. It was giving a bit delulu..
** World building is surface level - I would have loved to have learned more about the magic system, the types of magic, how it's used, why did dragons disappear? There's mentions of all these things, but again, it's surface level so it feels forced
** The "spice". There's zero yearning or tension building in this book between Everly and the (I guess he's the MMC??) MMC. By the time we get to their spice scene, I honestly thought it was going to be a joke. That half way through he was going to chain her up and say "gotcha!" or something crazy because it just didn't fit
I will say, I'm reading books 1 and 2 because I received an ARC of book 3. While I didn't love this book, the bones are there and there is solid potential in this story but I do think the writing and character development could use a little TLC.

TL;DR Everly's brother gets taken by a dragon into another realm and Everly panic follows them into said realm to try to get him back. Once she gets here, she's taken to the castle to work as a servant before discovering she has magical necromancy style powers. Now she must train to hone these powers, learn about her past, and try to find her brother in this new world

** The magic system is very unique compared to anything I've read. Essentially, she's a form of a necromancer who can bring back animals to protect and fight on her behalf when she's has strong emotions. Could be useful IRL. The magic was also based on having a dragon and using one of the dragons scales to wield magic.

Dislikes......here we go. Before we start: this book isn't meant to be YA but it does feel very YA which could drive all of my dislikes below... okay now here we go...

Received as an ARC for an honest review.
Overall it was a good book, but I feel like it could use a little more polishing in some places. But, if you're into fantasy with secrets, magic, dragons, and mild spice I would recommend.
I found some of the descriptions in the beginning a little repetitive and felt they weren't important or adding value to the story. The beginning was a little slow and it took a little time to get into the most exciting parts, but once it did the story moved very quickly. The writing is uncomplicated and easy to follow. In some places it feels like it's written how someone would talk.
My initial impression is that the relationship between Julian and Everley is a little co-dependent and odd. Also, continuing to point out that they are twins and that she is looking for him and missing him isn't really necessary. It felt like overkill. I love my siblings, but at some points it felt like she was describing a lover rather than her twin brother. Also, just give her one name and nickname and stick with it. Everly, Eva, Evie... It got too messy.
I did think the FMC had some pretty decent character development. In the beginning I really couldn't stand her, but as the book moved further along I started to warm up to her. She still has a long way to go before I actually like her, though. I didn't really feel any romantic chemistry between her and the king so the spicy scene kind of surprised me. I would have liked to have seen more development in their relationship before they hopped right into bed.
This cliffhanger ending really killed me! I'm definitely going to have to read the next book in the series because I'm invested at this point and I need to know more. All the minor characters seem a little shady and I'm curious to see how this all plays out.

I read this book as I was able to get an ARC copy for book 2 in the series, The Chaos Ruined.
And whew! What a ride this was. It's been a while since I read fantasy AND an actual series.
This book took me on a rollercoaster. In the dark. While being surrounded by the undead. At no point in the book did I know what would happen next and I have SO. MANY. QUESTIONS. Mainly about Aldrin and his... suspicious behavior. And Tarin. And Everly's powers.
First; Aubrey's writing style is very captivating. So much is left vague and in the darkness of the corners of the pages. When you finally think you've got it figured out, she pulls out the rug from underneath you.
Everything is not as it seems I think and I need answers.
The relationship between Aldrin and Everly seems so cute but Aldrin seems strange and I kind of don't trust him.
I want to know what Everly's powers actually entail and why the King wants to be around her for it so badly. Is he using her for his own benefits? Is he aiming for her to resurrect a certain animal he could have use in? 👀 So many uncertainties, so many questions.

The Chaos Weaver absolutely delivered — magic, secrets, tension, and just the right amount of spice. Aubrey Winters has created a dark, addicting fantasy world that pulls you in from the very first chapter and refuses to let go.
We follow Aria, a Chaos Weaver — a rare and powerful magic wielder whose abilities are feared and outlawed. After years of hiding what she is, Aria is captured and forced into the Shadow Court, where everything becomes a dangerous game of survival, secrets, and shifting alliances. The stakes? Her life… and possibly the fate of the realms themselves.
The world-building is rich and layered, with rival courts, forbidden magic, and political intrigue woven through every scene. I loved the slow-burn enemies-to-lovers tension between Aria and the brooding, mysterious male lead (who I won’t name for spoilers but OMG). Their chemistry was 🔥, but it never overtook the plot — it added to it.
Aria is everything I want in a main character: strong but still learning, guarded but capable of fierce love and loyalty. I rooted for her every step of the way as she fought for her freedom, questioned everything she thought she knew, and leaned into the power others tried to bury.
If you’re a fan of morally gray characters, hidden magic, court politics, and a heroine discovering her true strength, this book is for you. It gave me Throne of Glass and From Blood and Ash vibes, but with its own unique twist. I seriously can’t wait for book two!

After a scheme-gone-wrong leads to her brother being kidnapped by a dragon, a determined young woman ventures into a dangerous magical world, where she must rely on a handsome king who offers to help her harness newfound powers—though she risks losing both her brother and her heart along the way.
I convinced my friend to buddy read this with me, and the story follows Everly on her journey to find her twin brother, Julien.
While I found her naivety and tendency to be a pushover frustrating, I couldn’t help but admire the kindness and strength that occasionally shone through her.
The book is an incredibly slow burn with a lot of world-building, which made it take far longer to read than I expected. I didn’t really get hooked until around 80%, when the pace picked up significantly, leaving me wanting more.
The ending hits with a cliffhanger that’ll leave you desperately wishing the next book was already out.

The Chaos Weaver is the first book in The Chaos Chronicles. This romantic fantasy novel details the story of Everly. She and her twin brother have been living on the streets for years. They want a better life, but getting that better life isn’t easy. But when one of her brother’s “friends” comes up with a dangerous scheme it promises to get them on the path to being able to be okay for a few months at least. But things go wrong...horribly wrong.
When her brother is whisked off to a magical realm by a dragon, she goes with him. Unfortunately she loses him on the other side. Moving at a moderate pace this fantasy novel shows Everly struggling with her new situation. She catches the eye of the king after her secret is exposed. But what could he possibly want with her?
There are a lot of questions you’ll be left with as this book draws to a close. The first in the series, this book appears to be laying the groundwork, but we hope that there will be more drama and depth in book two.
