The sequel to the award-winning indie novel, Ever the Night Road.

The adventure continues where Ever the Night Road left off. Now eighteen, Dagny must brave the mythical, labyrinthine city of Jud, where streets and buildings shift with the twilight, and each door and alleyway may give rise to the most unexpected encounters.

"Dagny and her younger sister, Grete, are hardly children anymore. Catastrophe tore their family apart years ago and Dagny only recently recovered that crucial family connection. But things happened to both girls while they were separated and, in a bid to protect her sister, Grete has disappeared again.

With only a curious little boy to act as a road map, Dagny embarks on an adventure that will introduce her to all the wonders and dangers her mythical world offers. She’ll have to find a door that doesn’t want to be found, escape a monstrously large guard cat, and evade the dreadful Drowned Twins. And that’s before she ever reaches the outer edge of Jud. On such a monumental quest, the changeable landscape might be the least of Dagny’s troubles. Friends abounded in her hometown, but out here, it’s tough to know who to trust. Strangers have their own agendas, which rarely align with Dagny’s, but the biggest challenge of all might be surviving the inner workings of the dreamlike city of Jud.

For readers that love a series as expansive and magical as The Wizard of Oz or as unexpected and clever as The Maze Runner..." -Indies Today

I was anxiously awaiting the sequel to Ever the Night Road and author Michael Breen did not disappoint! He revisited all the elements I loved in the first book -- beautiful storytelling, characters I care about, amazing scenery and unique plot -- and combined them with an even more supercharged fantasy adventure. I loved watching the main character, Dagny, evolve in this page-turner. I can't wait to see what he comes up with for future books!

This book was absolutely fun to read. I thought this one was better than the first, just because there was more to learn and discover. I highly recommend reading it both books though!

Beginning right where Ever the Night Road leaves off, Jud catapults us into the strange world of the underground road that Dagny is hoping to navigate with her new friend Melwes and his spirit guides in order to find an entrance into the realm of Jud and hopefully connect with her sister Grete.  Dagny is able to make it into Jud only to be separated from Melwes and is now facing a new set of dangers in an unknown world. With the help of some new friends, Dagny is reunited with Grete only to embark on her new mission to return to find Odestinias, the former ruler of Jud and return what she stole.
Jud is an exciting fantasy adventure through new worlds.  There was non-stop action as Dagny, Melwes, Grete and Feruda navigated through Jud's everchanging landscape.  I enjoyed experiencing all of these different parts of Jud along with Dagny, each was unique with their own personalities, quirks and possible dangers.  The stories of Jud's creation were very interesting and helped to fill in some gaps.  I wish we got to hear more about Jud, especially from the Queen herself.  Dagny's journey in this book is more emotional as she finds that she can not always fix everything for everyone and that she can not accomplish everything by herself.  I loved the addition of Melwes character, with his innocence and knowledge of the underground, Pren, who is trying to escape family obligations, Eidfur an amazing wolf and Feruda, a traveler between the two worlds.  Each adventure is suspenseful and keeps the pacing quick as Dagny and her new team face multiple new challenges.  With themes of friendship, family, purpose and destiny, Jud delivers a successful sequel.

A Fierce, Lyrical Journey Through a World of Shadows and Truth

Jud picks up right where Ever the Night Road left off and somehow raises the bar even higher. Michael Breen crafts a myth-soaked, wildly imaginative sequel that’s equal parts haunting and heartfelt. From faceless knights to eye-stealing princes, every twist feels earned, every obstacle pulses with meaning.

Dagny’s journey through Jud is more than a fantasy quest, it’s an emotional excavation of sisterhood, identity, and the grit it takes to fight for both. Breen’s writing is vivid, poetic, and often quietly devastating in the best way. The worldbuilding? Immersive. The stakes? Unrelenting. The heart? Absolutely intact.

Fans of lyrical, fearless fantasy, the kind that isn’t afraid to get a little dark and a lot meaningful will find Jud a masterful continuation of a brilliant series. This is one road worth walking.

Leaves you wanting more! Fascinating World & Dagny is so Intriguing!
The world-building in this book is absolutely stellar. If I could chose one book to actually be in so that I could explore, it'd be the world that Dagny lives in. Even with all the dangers, this is a world I would love to fully immerse in and explore for the rest of my days.
I love the way Dagny is so strong and figures out things differently than others. She solves problems in a way that no other character would be able to and she's so calm and chill about being so cool! The entire series make me want to pack a bag and some snacks and travel the roads with Dagny just to see where she'll end up.
I loved the first one and I continue to love the series with JUD.

This is a very intense, full of adventure story of Dagny, the girl I first met in Ever The Night Road, Michael Breen's first book. If you read Ever The Night Road, Jud is a roller coaster of events compare to that book. Dagny has adventure upon adventure meeting new people as she goes, some good, some bad and some that are hard to figure out. You just catch your breath from one happening and BAM! you fall or climb into another. Michael's ability to keep your interest as he describes each new world is mesmerizing . You are drawn in and made part of this story. Love fantasy? This one's for you!

Picks up where Ever the Night Road ends and continues seamlessly. If you liked the first book, you need to read this too. My only critique is that the ending felt incomplete with some things left unanswered or addressed.
