Forbidden Confessions #2

Seducing the Bride

Rate this book
My best friend’s daughter is engaged? I’m going to make her mine.

Barely legal Perrie propositions me the night before she leaves for college.
I ache to make the innocent a woman in every way.
But I’m too old for her.
Too filthy.
Too possessive.
When I end the kiss, she vows to save herself for me.
Four years later, she returns—with a fiancé.
I’ll take her from him.
I’ll make her admit she’s mine.
I’ll ride her raw and bare with every inch I’ve got.
And the only man she’ll be saying “I do” to is me.

It’s a simple little story of boy wants girl but she’s too young and his boss’s daughter. Four years later she returns from college and she’s engaged making him realize, it’s now or never.

At times it felt too convenient but I did like the little twist.

Is it possible that this wasn’t as spicy as the last one ?! I miss the spicy of our previous characters. I think Perrie was adorable but Hayden is a freaking fool. I love the sexy scenes but I needed the BDSM. I wish I had more but it was not there !!

Still good but not great. I will still give this author another shot!! 🥸🫣

It's review time 🎧
Warning ⚠️: short story, all about sex.

Narrator score🎧 ;both narrator's were good. I liked them. I think they're the thing I liked the most about the story.

Level of steam🔥: well the book was all about sex. Well they didn't did the deed in the beginning of the book, but it wasn't too long to wait either... the story was short so....

Level of anxiety and sadness0😱😢: the book wasn't sad at all, the story didn't had the time to develop characters with depth.

The book itself📖: its a cute short story, with a very sexy out come. I can't say I adored the book, and that I didn't had problems with the story, because I did. I really did. But I don't think I can expect something more deep from a book like that one. For the type of storyline it wasn't bad.

R E V I E W:
I’m a fan of age-gap romance and this book definitely gave me a great ride. No pun intended 🤣 the story was good but the “sweet pea” pet name made it icky. Overall though, I enjoyed it and i liked that they added a “cutesy” promise.

Y'all. I can't.

TBH I woukd've DNF'd this book much earlier (I ... maybe it's I just really don't like Shayla Black writing first person? ... Ok so it's not "just" that -there's OMFG so much else. Anyway.)
... Also like I kept reading cuz I saw Amy Knupp edited this and Fedora proofread it and normally I never check that but I saw it in this book and was like !!!

... well. If I hadn't DNF'd it at 52% I'd probably be giving it a F ... (unless there is like... a literal miraculous turnaround/spin...)

Y'all.
It's creepy.

It's super fucking creepy.

So goddamn creepy.

The "hero" who is TWELVE YEARS OLDER than the heroine in TODAY'S SOCIETY ... was in love - IN LOVE - with her when she was not yet 18. I think it said he started hanging out with her when she was 14? Which... what? It doesn't even make sense! He's her father's business partner, and the dad was too focused on business ... so ... his PARTNER became the kid's babysitter? (LOLOL I almost accidentally wrote "babyshitter" :X ... which >.>)
But like - wouldn't Hayden have been yanno - BUSY WITH THE BUSINESS TOO?!
Also ... why him? What kind of ... I mean it's just SO WTF.

And then that he's IN LOVE with her.
So she makes a pass at him the night before she leaves for college. And he wants her (🤢) - and they make out 🤢🤢 - but then he puts her off because "she's just an inexperienced girl/not worth his [business] relationship with her dad.
Like - whatever. I don't even care what excuse.
And she cuts him off - then comes home with some... just ... weird fiance. Who seems like a jerk but also a good guy? And there are hints that she O_o "has" to get married?

Which ... and they HAVE to do it in a week (whut? why?) and the dude is some owner/partner in a startup 🙄 and he has to fly to Seattle for a few days and return ON THE DAY OF THE WEDDING and Hayden is all "imma get the girl back"

And ... no. Yo. She's like what, 22, and he's 34 ... and the flashbacks and he's all "oh I found you so sexy WHEN YOU WERE IN HIGH SCHOOL" and "I was SO TURNED ON BY YOU EATING ICE CREAM" and seriously no. This guy needs therapy. Otherwise he's going to end up in prison as a child molester. This shit is not normal.

I wouldn't even have liked it if the attraction started after she graduated from college. But with him as a GROWN ASS MAN and her as a 14-17 year old? ...

Yo.

No.

Unlike the first book this one actually had a plot. So, while I was actually prepared for the genre (I was very much not prepared for the first book and thought it was just a romance; it was not) I was pleasantly surprised when there was an actual story this time. This is an age gap romance, which is not my favorite. Perri is in love with her dad's best friend and business partner, Hayden. He has been in her life since her mom left. The night before she leaves for college she throws herself at him and he turns her down. He's interested, but doesn't want to ruin his friendship or business, plus she's too young. Fast forward four years and she has come home after her college graduation, with a fiance. I knew from the jump it was a fake fiance situation, but it took a long time for me to be proved right. Derek is fine, but he works a lot and Hayden can't stand him. He sets out to prove to Perri that she shouldn't marry him, and along the way tells her that she should marry him instead. Then he talks to her father and he has known all along that they were in love with each other and he is in full support of Hayden breaking up Perri's engagement. He leaves her alone for a while, and then the day before the wedding he sends her all kinds of gifts and shows up to seduce her. That's when she admits that Derek is a fake fiance, real friend, but they aren't together; he was just there to help her make Hayden jealous. They consummate their relationship and the wedding that was supposed to be for Perri and Derek was actually for Perri and Hayden. Much better than the previous book, but Kayla and Oliver did make an appearance at the end of this book for the wedding.

I had recently read another book similar but with a 17 soon to be turned 18 year old and a 35 year old businessman and I felt sick.

Lucky this book she wasn’t jail bate so the age difference didn’t get to me!

Their relationship and love story actually seemed more plausible.

She had a childhood crush on her dad’s best friend/ business partner he used to even babysit for him. That part could be creepy but he never crossed the line when she was underage 👏

4 years later when she recently graduated college and it’s her first time back home she surprised her dad and him by bringing her soon to be husband… they are to be married in 7 days!

But her soon to be husband has to go on a last minute business trip only just going to be back on time for the wedding. She then finds herself going cake testing with her childhood crush and he tells her to marry him instead.

There is some passion and spice and overall the book is cute, but I found it really fake that her dad was just fine with it all and that he was surprised his best friend didn’t get with his daughter before she left for college 😬
That and the dad is with his friends younger sister and she’s pregnant. So his best friend will be both his father in law & brother in law? That’s just a bit much

The One that got away.....

Hayden Hughes is in a hot mess of a predicament. He has sexual feelings for his friend and business partner's daughter. Normally that should not be a problem, but she is 12 years his junior and has her whole life ahead of her. Perrie Atkins has always had a crush on Hayden. They have known each other for years and are good friends and have fun together, good clean fun. But as time has gone on, she has found herself in love with him. To her a difference in age is not an issue. When Perrie propositions Hayden, he finds himself in a very hard dilemma. His body is on board for having some steamy sex with Perrie, but his mind is a whole other matter. He has to be the mature one here, so he says it can't happen. It would jeopardize his personal and business relationship with her father.

Fast forward 4 years. Perrie comes home and with her a surprise. Hayden finds himself kicking himself for letting her get away. He makes it his mission to win her back at all costs. But he does not have much time to make this happen. A wonderful quick saucy read that was fully enjoyed by this reader.

Perfect quick novella to tuck you in at night or as a palette cleanser.

Spice 🌶️ 3.5 It’s explicit, no euphemisms, and it’s just the right ratio of steam to story.

🎧 5/5. Jason Clarke can do it all, including narrating in a higher “female” voice for FMC Perrie’s POV. And I might have a Pavlovian effect to his voice because he also did Ali Hazelwood’s Not In Love and Lyla Sage’s Lost and Lassoed. I guess I’ll have to buy it when it leaves Audible Plus on 8/12/25.

Yes, it’s Dad’s Best Friend/Business Partner. Mom is out of the picture since FMC was 10; so Hayden spent a lot of time hanging out with Perrie 1:1 growing up. As a parent, that’s a little sus, but we’ll just chalk that up to “romance reasons.”

Dad’s reaction to being told about their love is beautiful, and not caveman like. And it had me realizing I’ve either read this book or Dad’s story at some point in time, probably in the past 5 years. And it’s going to drive me nuts because Amazon has nothing to say about me purchasing or borrowing this specific title.

Four "really liked it" stars

Yum. A tasty little treat, this one. This novella was fun, flirty, and hot. It was short, but the author didn't try to cram too much in to the limited pages. The story unfolds over the course of a week with a brief chapter in the beginning devoted to the day prior to Perrie leaving for college. There was detail for both the characters and the locations, but only just enough- no more, no less. Honestly I think nailing a good novella is probably harder than putting out a good full-length novel. The page limits so often yield a story that just falls flat. The pacing many times feels off, and I rarely finish a novella feeling satisfied. But I did with this one! Shayla Black did everything right and produced a perfect little novella here.
If you're looking for a quick, steamy read with an HEA that is a true standalone then this is right up your alley.
I look forward to reading more from this author!

Perrie gets her man. - This story creeped me out just a little, the FMC having been babysat by her future suitor. A 12-year age gap separates Hayden and Perrie, their introduction to each other after he graduated college. That her dad knew of their affection for each other and did nothing to intervene shows a possibly blind trust one can no longer indulge.

The backstory sets the stage for their future reckoning, their feelings awakening as her young body blossoms into womanhood. He knows he shouldn't have those feelings but he's just a man and she is appealing. Pushing her away seems like a great idea at the time. He and her dad are colleagues and friends, like family even. He can't risk ruining that relationship. Until Perrie comes home with a fiance. Now it's on to claim the woman who owns his heart.

This second in series is just as delicious as the first, the MCs sharing a deep bond before they ever look at each other with desire. Such a great listen, the narrator's smooth voice making me melt.

So Sweet & Sexy!!!

Shayla Black does sweet and sexy so very well! I loved this story! A forbidden romance turning into a seductive lesson in getting what you want. Perrie is our perky, smart heroine who falls for her father’s best friend and business partner, Hayden, a man 12 years her senior. He was her friend, an “uncle” when she needed one. Until one day, he notices that she’s all grown up. Thinking their age gap is too much to overcome, he lets Perrie slip through his fingers. But she’s back, with a fiancé and planning to get married and exit his life for good. Not if he can help it. Shayla Black masterfully captures the sexual attraction, tension, and desire between Perrie and Hayden in such a delicious way. A great read!

First off, can we discuss the cover of this book? Holy hotness, that alone couldn't make me dive in any faster! So, the book is hot from cover to cover!!

Hayden has a best friend/business partner, who happens to have a daughter that has had a crush on Hayden for a long time. She's 12 years his junior, so she's off limits to him. Or is she? Perrie is now all grown up and on Hayden's southern radar! She's definitely matured and he's finding it harder and harder to resist her, even though she is engaged.

A quick, sexy, hot, captivating story!! So much goodness all wrapped up in a nice, neat package! A wonderful story, as always by Shayla Black!

Perrie has been in love with Hayden for years and Hayden has loved her for years. There are some major roadblocks they need to overcome. Hayden is a lot older than Perrie for one thing. For another thing Perrie is the daughter of his business partner and best friend. When Perrie was just about to leave for college the sparks were flying between these two but Hayden hesitated. Now she is home with a fiance and Hayden has to find a way to stop the wedding because he still loves her and age isn't as important now. I loved reading about Hayden's plan and Perrie's surrender. This book is super sexy and fun to read.

Perrie is the daughter of Hayden's best friend and business partner. He has been in love with her since her age permitted it but didn't act on it. Now, four years later she shows up engaged and he sets out to break up that engagement and make her his.

Perrie suddenly finds herself planning her wedding without her fiance so Hayden steps up to help her out while all along having a plan in place and when the time comes he intends are winning her.

This installment of the Forbidden Confessions was just as good as the first one. Jason Clarke is the perfect choice for the narration. I cannot wait to get into other ones.

Spoilers: I'm not sure how I feel about this book. When the truth of the h's relationship comes out it immediately changed the way I looked at her. I suddenly found her actions deceitful and manipulative. What she had done was completely glossed over as if it wasn't wrong of her. She had planned an elaborate hoax while lying to her dad and friends. She planned a wedding on someone elses dime where there was never going to be a wedding. How can no one else see this as horribly deceitful and manipulative?!

De repente, Perrie se encuentra planeando su boda sin su prometido, así que Hayden interviene para ayudarlamientras que todo el tiempo tiene un plan en marcha y cuando llegue el momentotiene la intención de conquistarla.

Seducing the Bride by Shayla Black**

(father’s best friend, virgin, wait for me, wedding, jealousy)
I really cannot imagine that there is not a site dedicated to taking this book down. It is about a young man that hangs out with his best friend and his best friend’s daughter for most of her life. He has apparently been in love with her, and when she turns eighteen, she propositions him, but he declines understanding that it is inappropriate. Now, it has been six years since that happened and she has turned up with her new fiancé asking to be wed within the week.

3.5 or 4 stars out of 5. I wish it wasn't so short of a story but I guess it suppose to due to being a novella. Jason Clarke is the audiobook narrator and only him! He did such a great job and the plot is a bit predictable but overall, great writting skills! I think if we have more emphasis on the character development, it would be pretty phenomenal. So, if you want some fun, sexy, and quick read, this is it!

For me, the ICK factor was strong for this one... I know many readers enjoy the age gap trope, but it kinda made me gag... What could have been a hot story was, for me, just to creepy, letchy, too close to perverse for my taste and I'm never one to shy away from spicy scenes or dark tropes... I guess I'm not just made out for the whole falling for my best friend's daughter vibe... sorry, not sorry!! Too much for me!

I don’t condone lying to get him to act on his feelings or idk being in love with the guy who helped raise you. I also don’t think there’s any father who would be okay with his best friend being in love with his daughter. Anyone even looks at my sister and I’m ready to throw down. But, if you get past all the kink and mostly unrealistic “bro support” it’s a good premise. I’m trying not to be an asshole with my reviews.

It’s a cute story of an older man crushing on his best friend’s daughter and the daughter crushing on the dad’s best friend. She tells him she wants him right before leaving for college but he denies her. Four years later she returns with a fiancée. Such a twist is that her fiancée is in on the secret to make dad’s best friend jealous. 6 days to make the man want her. And it works. They get married.

A Beautiful Novella!

Pierre has been in love with Hayden since she was a kid, but there is a 12 year age difference. She goes off to college, but love has a way of not going away when it's real! Will Hayden feel the same way when she comes home with a fiancee? You will have to read to find out! A wonderful story.

I was nervous at the first part when Hayden was describing the age gap and when he started seeing Perrie as a sexual being. Grooming-vibes anyone? Thankfully, the author pulled back on that and delayed the romance. Whew. Somehow, thirty-four/twenty-two sounds so much better than thirty/eighteen.

Jason Clarke narrating saved this book for me.

Seducing the Bride: A Quick, Steamy Listen
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟
Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
🎧AUDIO🎧

I stumbled upon "Seducing the Bride" on Audible, and I must admit, it was the narrator and the short length that initially drew me in before I even read the synopsis. In my defense, I was searching for something quick to listen to while I worked, and this novella fit the bill perfectly.

The story revolves around Hayden, a man old enough to know better, who finds himself hopelessly drawn to Perrie Atkins, his best friend’s daughter. What started as a harmless crush from Perrie's side has evolved into something much more complicated as she’s now engaged to another man. Hayden’s struggle with his feelings and his desperate attempts to claim her make for an engaging, if somewhat predictable, plot.

This book leans heavily into the age gap erotica genre, which is handled quite nicely. The romance between Hayden and Perrie is intense and forbidden, adding to the overall allure of the story. However, there isn’t a lot of action outside their steamy encounters. If you're looking for a deep, intricate plot, this might not be the book for you. But if you’re in the mood for a quick, erotic listen, it hits the spot.

Jason Clarke’s narration is, as always, top-notch. His voice brings the characters to life and adds a layer of depth to the story that I thoroughly enjoyed. With Clarke narrating, I can never go wrong.

Overall, "Seducing the Bride" is a short, steamy read that delivers on its promise of forbidden romance. It’s perfect for a quick escape, especially if you’re a fan of age gap erotica and superb narration.
