"My name is Howie. I was named after my father, Howard, but having two Howards was confusing, so I became Howie. I am a supermarket night manager. This is my account."When a deadly infection spreads across Europe, supermarket manager Howie’s ordinary life is thrown into chaos. As the world crumbles around him, he teams up with his autistic best mate, Dave and a ragtag group of misfits to face an enemy unlike any other—the undead. But this isn’t just any infection. It evolves. It learns. And it’s getting smarter every day. Howie soon learns that nothing is quite what it seems - and neither is he.With fast-paced, blistering action, The Undead series follows Howie and Dave and their unlikely friends as they become the only hope for humanity pitted in a race against time to stop the infection before it becomes clevererer than them. Which honestly wouldn't be that hard.
The Undead has grown to become an iconic British series, redefining zombie horror with rich, unparalleled characterisation—seldom seen outside of literary fiction. But The Undead becomes far more than a zombie story. This is a tale of loyalty and friendship, of how we bond and how far we will go for the people we love. Its catchphrases have become part of everyday language for its readers, and its razor-sharp humour reflects the stupidity and greed of humanity, while still offering hope that we can rise above and do the right thing.

I don't know how RR Haywood keeps this series so entertaining. I'm going to leave a review on the first book as I feel that will draw more eyes and maybe new readers than one on the 33rd book in the series. Suffice to say, over 2 dozen books in, huge swings in narrative direction/evolution, a cast of characters as large as any literary series you can think of, and here I still am being hardly able to wait for the next book to drop. I feel like I'm sitting in the garden center...dying for Roy to drop the next part in his opus.
I have been an avid follower of this brilliant series from Day One. Day 33 is, in my humble opinion, one of the best yet. I'm in awe of this author and how he is pulling all the different strands of the story together. I just had to keep reading as I was so caught up in the action that I couldn't put it down even if I wanted to. I am so invested in all the main characters and really cheer them on, especially when dealing with the real nasty baddies who aren't always the 'Living Challenged ' as Reginald likes to call them!
If you haven't read any of this series, I implore you to give them a try. The books can take you away from the humdrum of life. There is death and gore aplenty, but there is also such camaraderie and humour. At certain points in this whole series, I have shed a tear, but then the next part will have me laughing. For an author to be able to engage the reader like this, well, I think they have done a bang-up job. Bravo, Mr. Haywood. Please don't make us wait too long for Day 34.
I do, did, kinda still do love it. I’ve re read it a few times by now. The characters are well drawn out and likeable, the action is riveting and there’s humour throughout, you really become invested in these people.
My concerns: There seems to be a continuity issue. What feels like co-opting a storyline and changing it to something new as if that was the plan all along. Yet it feels contrived.
Tying the story to other books by the author, genius or a ploy to get me to read the other books?
The time gap between what we are now calling ‘seasons’ is visible as every so often the tone changes, like the voice telling the story isn’t consistent.
My biggest issue is mostly with season five. The Rain. Brought to you by the words ‘entitled’ and ‘triggering’. Every book has some kind of commentary on karens and self absorbed people and frankly, it’s beyond annoying to the point I nearly DNF’d this last one. I get it, we’re all fat (read bad) lazy and entitled. Oh and addicted to our phones (fair). We also get triggered by anything and everything to the point I’m now triggered by the word triggered. Make it stop.
There is some really good storytelling in this series, a sprinkle of fat phobia and a heavy dash of annoying in recent books. Will I continue? Probably not. It was fun but it’s rather gone off the rails with everything but the kitchen sink thrown in and way too many chapters dedicated to telling me how triggered and entitled people are ruining the apocalypse.

I liked how this book returned to Cassie and Gregori. They haven't been mentioned for a little while so I was wondering what had happend to them and The Boy.
Gregori has always been mysterious and secretive so it was nice to actually find out more about him.
I didn't predict Cassie changing her mind and siding with Howie, at all. I'm glad she did though.
I love the relationships and bonds the characters have with each other. They're loyal and have each other's backs.
I felt so bad for Lilly and Mary, especially because they didn't know who to trust but I'm glad that they were able to confide in Howie and his team with Cassie's help.
Learning more about the "New World Order" was very interesting and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
I honestly believe that this is the finest author of fiction in the United Kingdom right now. Each book gets successfully better and stronger, which bearing in mind the already high standard of previous books, is just insane. This book is my favourite to date. Tying up all the loose ends and bringing back an almost forgotten strand of a much earlier book, this story ends up ready for the next fight in a simply perfect way. All of this author's characters are wonderfully realised, so when forgotten characters return it is simply a joy to read about them again, with all of the individual personalities and histories intact. The plot is superb ending in a very welcome and satisfying conclusion. Perfect, perfect, fiction.
Horror is my guilty pleasure, and I absolutely live this series. I've been hooked from the start and devoured each book, not wanting to get to the end but wanting to know what happens. I love the characters in these books and how they have grown as each book progresses, each having their own skills. I love the comedy thats mixed in and the occasional historical facts. I love the fight between good and evil and how the boundries blur and I really need to know what happens next. Its escapism at its best and come the apocalypse I wanna be on Howies. side
OMG, every book I have read I say the same thing, that’s the best one yet. guess what this one was the best one yet.
Well we are coming to the end of a story that can’t finish but it has to. Book 33 tears yes, fear yes, love certainly and to cap it all a feeling I am so tired of all the fighting I have had to do to help Howie and his crew, which I am part of, I need to rest and take my life back…. Not a chance onward and forward Mr Haywood. Let’s get the next book and we will see where we stand. Enjoy.
These are great reads, very throw away and addictive at the same time. All the laddish bits are a bit yawn sometimes but since the beginning tjis has died off. Its good following these characters but with the sheer volume ofvthem now you dont get that much time to spend with them particularly the more interesting ones as Heywood likes to share around so everyone gets a spot. Time for a few of them.to start being killed off although dont know what will do them.with the scope of what theyve been through so far.
Reallyvenjoy this series and looking forward to tge sext season.
To me, this is probably the greatest series of books ever written. I am so invested in the characters and the journey that they are on. The range of emotions that I experienced throughout the series I have never had with any other books I have read by different authors.
I cannot wait for the next season to be published. RR Haywood is an unbelievable author, thank you for creating these works.
Just finished 33, I thought the the series would start to fall away but Mr Haywood just keeps up with the twists and turns and introducing new characters to get to know whilst losing a few of our well loved ones along the way. Can’t really praise this series of books and the author enough especially the way series five has been released this summer, might need to go back to the beginning again to see me through to the next book or season!
I LOVE this author, love the series and have bought them all. Loved all the characters and their interaction with each other and somehow Books 1 - 32 have been in a way 'believable'. BUT this one (The Undead 33) was so contrived and reads as though it was written either by someone else!. Sorry, but it does. The pages which included Roy's new 'chapter' of this book were shockingly awful. And there was so much of it. Not up to the usual high standard I have come to anticipate and enjoy. Nonetheless, I am looking forward to DAY 34, hoping RR was having a bad day! Tyke
Love how far these books have come. The battle scenes are awesome. Love the links as they form and the speed of events. I like the touch of Roy’s story too. Very funny. I think the twist with the dog really got to me on many levels. I am recommending this series to everyone I meet! Absolutely awesome work. I just wish I could afford the actual books to send to my daughter as she doesn’t like kindle. Maybe one day!
The first part of this book is written so differently from the others, and then magically as with the others, the stories go back and forth to tie into previous books, before moving onwards. You Sir have not disappointed yet. I am just furious that I have finished it
Mr Haywood never fails to give his readers a rollercoaster of adventure, filled with humour, suspense, curve balls, in-jokes and action packed battles. Every single character has by now become a true friend, and to be back in their company in nothing but a heartwarming delight. Bravo Boss! 10/10
Finally, we catch up with Cassie, the Uglyman, and the Boy. We find Howie and his team, and Check in with Lilly at the Fort. I can’t explain how to balance reading as fast as I can to see what happens next, and rereading chapters to savor every word. RR Haywood, you are the king!
Another great instalment to this series. Although this book focuses on cassie watching all the events we've already read for the first half you're seeing it from her perspective and it's gripping still the same. You'll laugh you'll cry you'll stay up late to finish the book!
Once again RR Haywood deliveries a brilliant fantastic read in this series. Can't wait for the next one. Definitely a series to start of over the summer and you won't be able to put them down. The characters are great and you can't help getting caught up in their lives. The Undead series the best out there
What I would like to review is how Rich’s writing has developed and matured through the 33 books of this series. I have read these books a few times (like most people) but it is beyond me how he keeps a track of all the writing strands and then to bring them all into this book is mind blowing.
The series now has dimensions to it. You can relate and understand the characters, but more than that, you can now see how the infection had different effects on different streams of people and how they all gravitated to each other.
I am really looking forward to how this develops and how Rich’s writing continues through the Undead books and beyond x
The storylines in this series have been numerous and complex, and with laudable skill Heywood brings them seamlessly together. I've read this entire series, right the way through, several times. I've been wholly captivated every single time. I'm not the first say this; best series EVER!
This series is just phenomenal. The way the characters each have such unique stories that weave together a beautiful tapestry. My only very minor complaint is that there are suddenly a few too many characters, so it seems some aren’t getting the attention they once did. On the whole, such a lovely read!
I loved Day 33. It was funny and exciting with all the fighting. We're getting more insight into the virus or whatever they've got. This really is the best series ever. I even kind of enjoyed Rob's Story narrated by Cookey. I tried reviewing at the end on my kindle but it would not go to that page but this is it. Without spoilers. Its so good.
Probably like the rest of you, having read every book in the series, saying I’m emotionally invested is an understatement.
I truly “feel” for these characters, including the dog and the stupid horse! Haha. This series, the story, is - and I can’t believe I’m writing this, might be the best thing I’ve ever read.
I think I have reviewed in some way every book in the series. I am running out of superlatives for this series. Dare to say it's one of the greatest I've ever read. Book 33 did not disappoint. Half way through, I'm thinking this is one of the best in the series, and having finished I still believe that. How the author manages to pack so much quality character interaction, forward moving narrative and plot twists into so few pages is genius. I'm so excited for the next instalment.
Never have I read a series as damn good as this one. It never repeats, never gets old, is bloody funny, can have you on the end of your seat, oh and when you’re not reading it you’re only bloody well thinking about it! Makes me anxious, worries me and even pisses me off at times! Oh but I’ve picked a side…… And it’s not Howie’s……..
Only just discovered this series and have just finished reading from start to finish. Thirty-three books and not even slightly bored, just want it to go on and on! Characters are believable and human, dialogue is great and plot just keeps getting better and better. I love this series and very impatient for next instalment!
Honestly I'm not the quickest reader and can take me months to read a book. Started this on when it came out, got to half way point as of yesterday then blazed through the remainder today as could not put it down. The meeting of the factions in Winchester was epic.
I can't wait for the next book. Truly amazing read yet again!! Had my mouth hanging open at times, then my hand covering thinking...oh no! Thanks Boss. I can't wait for the next 1
