The field of bioethics exists to examine important ethical issues in the field of medicine and healthcare. Is Embryonic Stem Cell Research Ethical? and Should the United States Change Its Organ Donation Policies?
Too vague in some aspects. What is a violent video game? Switching between adults, teenagers and children whenever it fits the argument best. Stating that the Tosca, Smith, Egenfeldt- Nielsen Introduction is essential (I agree. It's a good book. And they even called their book "The Essential Introduction") but why? The author does not look at the research literature in a critical way (thinking critically...) and just accepts that the book is essential... Nicely written, easy to understand. Too few examples. Main focus on CoD and GTA. Would be good for any beginner student attending Essay writing classes.
I was interested in reading this book because I wanted to get an understanding of/introduction to some biomedical ethics topics. I really liked how the information was presented. The author focused on four controversial topics in medicine/biomedical ethics and presented both sides of the arguments in an unbiased manner with data and references. Another plus was that it was short and easy to understand. There were also discussion questions presented in the beginning of each section which allows it to be a great tool in a classroom setting. I only wish that more topics could have been discussed. Other than that, it was a great read.
very short read, interesting as it provides two points of views for arguments. however, many points were not thoroughly explained and mostly just glossed over. was expecting more information about euthanasia from this book but minimal information was given. terms such as passive euthanasia were also not used, but it is a term that is more commonly used during discussions.
My review is not based on the content of this book, which I found to be well-presented and engaging, but rather a HUGE printing error which was not spotted nor rectified. I was enjoying reading the book until I reached page 32, when a whole lot of pages were suddenly clipped. (See image below.)
Pages 33-48 are entirely missing and nowhere to be found. I will be contacting my local library to get them to inform the publisher. (And in case you were wondering, no, the pages were not ripped out by someone.)
