Historical Materialism #60

Dialectics of the Ideal: Evald Ilyenkov and Creative Soviet Marxism

Rate this book
Dialectics of the Ideal provides a window into the subterranean tradition of ‘creative’ Soviet Marxism, which developed on the margins of the Soviet academy and remains largely outside the orbit of contemporary theory. With his ‘activity approach’, E.V. Ilyenkov, its principal figure in the post-Stalin period, makes a substantial contribution toward an anti-reductionist Marxist theory of the subject.

Fantastic book for helping understand dialectical materialism, some of these essays reduce the politics of today and of the time to a purely philosophical debate however this is a really important work for understanding the nature of the ideal and an example of how to properly do dialectical materialism
