Going Light with Backpack or Burro: How to Get Along on Wilderness Trails

Rate this book
Here you have it -- the story of what you can do along the sky-land trails of the wilderness. We should like to think there is enough scope and persuasion in what is said here to speed you on your way to the nearest roadhead, there to pocket your car key for a few weeks and see what lies beyond. If there isn't enough scope and persuasion, we'd appreciate knowing -- for future versions.

A very nifty little book. Considering its age, it's better as a history lesson than an actual book on modern hiking techniques, but it's full of practical (if dated) advice. I found it really interesting just for the little historical tidbits sprinkled throughout the text-- the complaint that Army backpack frames were rather too heavy because the Air Force had gotten the lion's share of the aluminum during WWII, for example. Really an interesting little read.
