There were no words in this book until the last page. All of the illustrations were in bold, primary colors with the number on each page. The items on each page (bridges, subway cars, hot dogs) are all items you would associate with New York, with the possible exception of water towers, which you really don’t see much anymore. The last two pages of the book have a small image of each page with the English and Spanish words for each item. This is particularly good because many of the nannies who bring the children to the library are just learning English.
Manhattan, my favourite place. My heart has been breaking for it lately as it endures this horrendous crisis. I was compelled to grab this beautiful little counting book off the shelf. It pays homage to some of the city's instantly recognisable symbols (yellow cabs, hot dogs and the Statue of Liberty). A very cool way to count to ten and learn a little bit about the beloved Big Apple.
