Questions! Questions! Questions! Children are full of them. Where did I come from? What is God like? Is there only one God? The Big Book of Questions and Answers is a family guide to the Christian Faith. It contains a wealth of activities, prayers, and Bible references. This interactive resources material will bring families closer together as they learn about the Christian faith.
Sinclair B. Ferguson is Associate Preacher at St Peter's Free Church in Dundee and also Distinguished Visiting Professor of Systematic Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was Senior Minister of First Presbyterian Church of Columbia, South Carolina and prior to that, he was minister of St. George's-Tron Church in Glasgow.
I've looked for a solid kids devotion book for a couple years now. A lot of them are cheesy, patronizing to children, hit you over the head with morals, or just poorly written. I wanted something that included actual scripture, but made it accessible and relevant to a pre-schooler. This is it! There are fun extension activities with every lesson, memory verses and simple, yet profound questions. Brilliant.
I don't remember reading or knowing about this book when my children were little. I wish I had! There are themes with several questions under each theme. For example the first theme is God is our Creator and the questions Dr. Ferguson answers are:
I am_______? Why am I here? What is God like? Is there only one God? Why did God create the world? How did God give me life? Has God always made people in the same way? What was the world like after God made it?
Under each question there is a brief answer. A memory verse and prayer. Passages from the Bible you can read with your children to help them understand the answer to this question from the Bible. "Talking Time" - Basically how does this apply to your life. And then a small activity to reinforce the lesson.
If you are looking for a way to do devotions or read the Bible with your children I highly recommend this book. I would say certainly up to age 10 would enjoy this book.
We enjoyed this! Simple, but deep. My 4 year old and 3 year old could both understand and engage with what we discussed. I like how the book is structured and works systematically through different topics. Also nice that there are suggestions for additional activities. The illustrations could be more imaginative, but that's only a relatively minor thing.
The was a great book to use as part of family worship with our littles. It keeps each question and answer short and to the point while incorporating a memory verse, scripture passage for reading and discussion, and a brief prayer prompt. I may have found it necessary to reword of few of the answers and explanations, but this was altogether a very useful and engaging book for our family.
This is a wonderful devotional guide for children and, I dare say, for adults, too. The verses, the questions, the activities are so inviting, encouraging and edifying. If you are looking for a family devotional or a study book for children classes, I highly and joyously recommend.
