So you think you don't have anything in common with your dog or that bird outside? Think again. we all have more in common and are more interconnected than you think!

I am not going to lie... even as an adult this little book is actually pretty impressive. I think this book was very educational without being too overwhelming, although there is a lot of information here! The illustrations are also really well done and perfect for kids!

I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Humans and animals are not so different from one another, even though human actions in recent decades have threatened otherwise. This book highlights the similarities that exist among all animals, from the very big to the very small. With an introduction by a veterinarian with a passion for animal justice, this scientific narrative connects young readers with the diverse elements that make up life on earth. From the need to breathe to the ability to forge connections with others, humans and animals have innumerable traits in common with one another. Each spread features one specific commonality along with several paragraphs of relevant discussion. This text, though relatively long, is approachable for a wide range of ages, whether the words are read independently or aloud. Advanced vocabulary is used, and while these words do not appear alongside pronunciation guides, readers will be able to navigate the majority of the narrative, nevertheless. Adjacent to the primary text, the rest of each page includes illustrations of animals who embody the featured trait along with facts about those animals. Occasional photographs also appear, helping to connect readers to both animals and humans outside of the book. Back matter includes a glossary and select resources to further assist with comprehension and learning. Best for elementary school-aged readers with an interest in biology, this informative and visually appealing book advocates for improved human/animal relationships and is a positive addition to nonfiction library collections.

Nineteen two-fold pages describe all the ways animals are alike such as “we all grow and change,” “we are all tubes,” “we all have senses,” and “we all communicate.” Cute illustrations and occasional (eleven in total) photographs of animals fill the book. In each of these sections, a three paragraph explanation to introduces the concept. The remainder of the two pages has information about all the different ways that animals “grow and change,” for example, including gestation time, eggs vs. live birth, what baby mammals are like, types of eggs, etc. This format allows for a lot of opportunity for comparing and contrasting information. The book is chock full of interesting information that kids will find fascinating. For example, in the “we all need oxygen” section, there’s a mention of animal companions occasionally using an inhaler accompanied by a photograph of a dog using an asthma inhaler. Another example is the “we all have senses” section, which includes fascinating senses (“extra senses that seem weird and wonderful to us”) such as magnetic sense, electrical sense, and ultraviolet among others.

We Are All Animals is a wonderful celebration of the genius and wonders of nature and the value of all animals on the planet. Includes a glossary, selected websites and books for further reading, as well as an index. Link to complete review: https://ysbookreviews.wordpress.com/2...

Turtles breathe through their butts!

We Are All Animals is incredible - with facts about all kinds of creatures, readers learn how we are similar to all animals (and what intriguing differences there are). Perfect for flipping through, this large, bright book holds a wealth of knowledge on every page such that you'll wind up reading through instead of jumping around. Hoare, Lloyd, and Rubble knew just what information to include to hold children's attention while broadening their understanding of the world through perfectly chosen language and clear illustrations. Animal lovers, trivia lovers, and curious kids of all ages will be delighted by We Are All Animals. 10/10 Would Recommend!

Thank you for the ARC. My son is a little young to understand this book other than to learn the animals but wow was this educational, even for an adult. The pictures were great and this book was loaded with so much info about animals and humans. I love seeing how animals and humans are so much alike in so many ways.
