I think my tolerance for melodrama is slightly lower than this story’s and that puts us at odds more than I wish it did. This manga has a lot of good points, but I also end up rolling my eyes a bunch too.

On the good side - the looming prospect of becoming a father sees Takara stepping up like nobody’s business. It’s both a real nice moment and a very funny one seeing him swoop into those prenatal classes having it pretty much all figured out.

He’s really good here throughout and you can tell that he’s realizing that he helped make the baby, but Sachi is doing the literal heavy lifting and he wants to make sure his own effort matches hers as much as possible.

Further, Sachi starts making some real choices for herself and even if her dad and brother are very aggravating at times, I would not personally be able to handle this, she has her family’s sometimes biting support when she needs it.

She’s navigating the process of the birth itself, which involves literal education as we get some info dumps here that help the story function as edutainment. It’s not super elegant, though I’m glad to have it, but I tend to feel that way about any info dump that isn’t Sex Ed 120%.

Takara’s mother continues to make her own choices and, much as I wasn’t finding this too believable, it does accurately convey that she’s got her own reasons for her behaviour. That doesn’t excuse her, but it does make some sense of what happens.

Where I really don’t love this book is with the other underage mother that Sachi befriends. It’s pretty clear from the start where this is heading and I’m a little bummed that poor Sachi couldn’t just have somebody to talk mom stuff with.

No, instead, this poor girl gets to be the very obvious opposite of Sachi, who had support and could stay in school and who made good choices. I get why the story does this, but I felt like I was really awash in the artifice of it all. It did let Sachi’s brother show off how much of a dick he still is, so there’s that. He’s clearly protective, sure, but also a (self-righteous) dick. At least he got called out this volume, for all it changes nothing.

So, it’s mixed. I think this is pretty solidly written, on the whole, but sometimes it makes choices that feel incredibly artificial. That’s one of the reasons I tend to reach for this last whenever I’m going through my weekly reads. I respect it more than I like it.

3.5 stars - I acknowledge that this is well scripted in the moment, very smartly so, but some of the means by which it reaches those moments could stand a bit more finesse.

Another exceptionally well done volume, and emotional too!

However, even with that said, Takara is the MVP as he is one of the best shoujo manga male leads I have ever read about! I am continually blown away by his actions, and this volume was no exception! The way he goes above and beyond is truly incredible. I was deeply touched at seeing just how much research he has done because while it has been obvious he HAS done research before now, there is one chapter in this volume that shows that his research has been about EVERYTHING. I have had no doubts that he will make a wonderful father and husband because he has shown that he will be time and time again, but I will say that seeing him open up to someone really blessed my heart. He needs support too, and thankfully, this volume showed him getting that!

One thing that spoke to me in this volume is how deeply realistic Sachi's pregnancy is right now. Regardless of the difference in our ages of having our firstborns, the way it "hit her" that she was having a child was the same for me! It's like you can do all the research in the world, but when things get closer to the actual due date, it's like suddenly it clicks that you're having an actual human being, resulting in a lot of nervousness and even fear of how delivery will be. I also second about having bizarre nightmares because I had them too!

In the bonus interview that was included at the end, the other person in the interview mentioned how this is a series that every family should have in their home, and I literally caught myself thinking the same thing when reading! I was deeply surprised by how this volume went pretty in-depth about vaginal and c-section deliveries because I have never in my life as a reader have seen that kind of conversation represented in fiction! I have always thought this series was special, but I definitely feel that even more so because of how real-world concerns and questions are being woven into a fictional story. Well done, Mamoru Aoi!

Lastly, the new "development" with another character was VERY hard to read. As hard as it was to see someone else not have the same support Sachi is currently getting, I'm moved that the creator showed how not all pregnancies are the same. I know the next volume is the last, and I truly hope there is a hopeful ending concerning that part of the story. My heart really hurt for Sachi and the other character.

I'm sad to know this story is coming to an end, but I'm also excited for this incredible couple to meet their baby! I'm hoping it will be a wonderful delivery and that their child will bring these characters great happiness!

Takara is too sweet. I can’t believe that he still thinks kindly of his mother after she decided to erase him from her life. She’s going to regret missing out on her grandchild.
The Raimu situation makes me sad. But I think it was good for the mangaka to show that not every teen pregnancy will be like Sachi’s. Honestly, they are usually more like Raimu’s. I hope this doesn’t end badly for her.
And it’s almost baby time for Sachi!!! I can’t wait to see this baby! We’ve been on this journey with her and I’m ready to see that baby lol

Just got my physical copy today!!! One of my favorite manga series and I’m super excited for the next two volumes that come out. Sucks that I can no longer read it on the Internet and have to wait for the physical copies now but that’s okay I’m patient.

This series is so informative, but I think at times it can be a bit of overload. I also think it's good that there's a teen pregnancy with less support being depicted.

4.75 out of 5: I love seeing Sachi and Takara stepping up, and also realizing they need help, but won't burden others if they can. My heart also hurts for Sachi wanting to help her new friend but not knowing how to. On the lighter side, I loved her and Takara coming up with names and learning their meanings.I can't wait until the next volume.

My girlfriends child continues to be an extremely important story. I honestly wish that I had access to a story like this during my teenage years. It is so educational. It’s also extremely well done. However this volume did not move me like other volumes have. I found the introduction of another pregnant teenage girl unnecessary and took away from Sachis story. I understand why the author has done this but that doesn’t mean I like it. To me this story is about Sachis journey as a pregnant teenager. As well as the love story between her and Takara. I know this series is ending soon and I also know that the ending will probably have me extremely emotional. My girlfriend’s child is one of my favorite manga series.
