Holy hotness! When offered a chance to read about a sexy Irish man and a tattooed badgirl, I was all over it and I am so glad I was. This story was HOT as HELL, but there was so much more to it as well.
Trust – probably the hardest thing in any relationship and once it’s broken, it’s very hard to get it back, even with another person. Kieran had his heart trampled by his wife. Needing a change of pace, he ends up in Rhode Island with his brothers Niall and Liam, one of whom he was estranged from.
Enter Shayne, a tattoo artist and Liam’s best friend, with trust issues from her mother. The two enter into uncharted territory for both of them.
“Shayne moaned, the sound a mix of pleasure and pain. Her arse, normally fair and pale, reddened under my touch. The sight of it made me drunk with the need for her.”
Their journey together was one of exploration, love, and trust and it was amazing, not to mention sizzling to watch.
There is a touch of BDSM in this story, though it was light and personally I found it SCORCHING!

It focused more of the trust needed in order to allow someone to dominate you. At times, I really wanted to punch someone, particularly Kier’s wife, Kendall, but this story showed how important timing really is. Book provided in exchange for honest review.
Oh poor Kieran, how can you not just want to give him a ginormous hug while kicking his whore of a wife in the taco as hard you can while wearing steel toe boots?
Unfortunately Kieran is a pushover when it comes to women (he begged his wife to stay after he walked in on her cheating on him....with 5 guys). He meets Shayne while visiting his brothers and from the beginning the chemistry between Kieran and Shayne is awesome.
Shayne has some serious demons in her life, it's a wonder that she didn't just collapse into herself. It was hard reading about the truth about Paul and not wanting to reach through my Kindle and bitch-slap her mother.
I loved the character development, from how guarded and closed off Shayne is, to how adorkable Kieran is (although over the course of the story he morphs into a superhot sexy adorkable man), and how well they complement each other.
This story moves along at a good pace and I found it easy to pulled into the storyline from the very beginning, and I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

4 Stars Wow.... SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!!! You have been warned! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!
OK, so as some may know I am not a D/S genre type reader BUT this week I have been trying to throw caution to the wind and read whatever it is that strikes my fancy, lol. Now, this book, I have come across numerous times this week on my FB feed so I though what the hell let me ry it.
So first, this is not a "safe" book for some of my GR friends.
The writing is done in Irish brogue, I believe, so it was a bit strange reading at times, lol, because I am not used to that "lingo" but I could get the gist of it all anyways so no big deal.
The sex was HOT. Yes, there is a MFM scene and holy wowza did I ever want MORE, lol. Kieran, I loved and Darren...oh god, that man was a total five alarm fire, whewwwww....fanning myself!!!!!!!
I really liked this story, it was a very different read for me but I truly did enjoy it. I do plan to continue on with this series because I am dying to get Liam, Niall and most especially Darren's stories to come in the future!

This has to be the best erotic romance read I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Emotionally charged from the first page, this book was filled with passion, anguish and heartache. And, if that isn’t enough, there’s a drop dead, sexy Irishman who gives great spankings…need I say more??
I loved that Kieran was such a newbie to the Dom/Sub lifestyle, and after what had happened to him I wasn’t sure if he’d be down for some play time, but the chemistry between he and Shanye was explosive and so freaking hot, I thought my Kindle would melt.
Shayne had so many demons chasing her, and they kept her from opening up, but I was elated when she poured her heart out to Kieran, because no matter how much she ignored it, she liked him more than she cared to admit and they were perfect for each other. My heart shattered when the truth about Paul came out. She’d always alluded to a sordid past but I never expected that particular revelation and it made me hate her mother even more than I already did. Another person I loved to hate was Kendall. That woman had some nerve and I wanted to reach into the pages of this book and throttle her. She was a conniving, super b*tch who didn’t deserve the love of such a good man. I was more than happy when he finally saw the full extent of her dark soul.
This book was truly amazing in every way. I laughed, I cried, and I even plotted the demise of particular characters. It flipped me inside out and back again, leaving me raw and emotional. Another stellar read by this superbly talented author.

Kieran is an author who suffers writer’s block after his wife’s blatant betrayal and abandonment. His brothers, Niall and Liam, convince him to travel across the country and stay with them for a change of scenery. His location isn’t the only thing that changes when Kieran is introduced to a lifestyle he’d never imagined being involved in.
Shayne is a beautiful and talented tattoo artists and half owner in Liam’s tattoo shop. Despite her popularity behind the ink gun, she’s a loner. She doesn’t do relationships. Her tattoos hide the scars left behind by a toxic childhood. However, she’s drawn to Kieran like a magnet even though she knows he’s still married.
The author has written Marks on My Skin in both Kieran and Shayne’s point of view, going back and forth like a tennis match. I admit, I don’t usually care for first person point of view, but J.A. Howell’s technique worked for me.
The heat level of this story is five alarms, only for adults with open minds, with a sexual saturation of 75%. The writing is well structured and the editing is nearly flawless.
Like life, it mixes comedy with tragedy and lets you get to know and love, (or hate), each character. I can see at least a couple more stories branching out of this book in the future, which is good. I want to know what happens to a few secondary characters.
What I learned for this story: Have an open mind, try anything at least once, never order a coffee drink called a motorboat, and always keep track of your lube.

Amazing storyline, great characters.
The only thing I didn't personally like about it, was all the Irish language used, at times I found it hard to read and understand and had to read a few times to get it...I know Kieran, Liam and Niall are all Irish but that was explained enough without the used of the language as well.
But once I got used to it, I was hooked. The story was strong, the characters were fantastic...Some of the book was even humouress!
This story had everything in it that you need for a decent story!
Shayne - Long black hair and big brown eyes, loads of tattoos (FINALLY....A BOOK WITH A GIRL THAT HAS LOADS OF TATTS JUST LIKE ME!!) Has a slutty dress sense, but it works for her...and to top it off she is a tattooist...which is totally cool right?
Kieran - Married to Kendall for 6 years, goes to visit his brothers in Midtown, Rhode Island, he's a writer/author and is completely lost with his mind messed up. Him and Shayne hit is off almost immediately. They have chemistry.

Ok first you will need to make sure you have tissues and then a change of panties. This book was great. You have a story with some serious hot sex scenes that will make you wet. I couldn't put the book down.
Shayne is a tattoo artist and she co-owns the shop with her best friend, Liam. She has a troubled past and one that she is trying to not remember. She doesn't do boyfriends, relationships - just hook ups. Her past is what holds her back. This all starts to change when she meets Kieran who is Liam's younger brother.
Kieran hasn't spoken to his brother Liam in a few years all due to what Liam said to him one night. Kieran comes home from work early to surprise his wife and finds a surprise for himself which makes him end up calling his younger brother Niall to see if he can come stay with him and explains what's happened. Kieran goes and tries to overcome and not go back to his wife.
Shayne and Kieran meet and become friends but have attraction for each other. Oh hotness - I ain't giving away spoiler's - READ THE BOOK! It is worth it. I haven't read books by this author before but I will be doing that now. I am onto the next book in this series. Great job author.

I won this arc from the author in a fb competition
first off can I just say that some of this book is wrote in an Irish lingo , I am from dublin and at the beginning it was tricky for me to twist my mind round it and grasp it even though in some ways I speak it ( silly I know ) but I discovered that for keiran if I put my own voice with the ya and pronounced it yeh (which is how I say it everyday ) and the feckin in father teds voice I could somewhat get there, sorry j Howell but we Irish don't really say feckin since 19 o splash or perhaps its just me :-) don't get me wrong the book was great the storyline was sexy and the suspense at times entertaining and I thought the coming into bdsm for keiran was cute because he seemed so shy :-) but he is good for Shayne so I give this book 4 stars well done j. Howell

Marks on My Skin was the first novel I've read by J.A Howell and I must say I am officially a fan!
This story was captivating and I was immediately drawn into it from the beginning. I'm definitely a fan of books with sexy men and I must say Kieran reeked of sex appeal! The caution on this book says "contains explicit sex" and that is beyond a doubt correct the sex scenes in Marks on My Skin were steamy!! Can you say wet kitty?
This book is dark, sensual, and riveting. Job well done J.A. Howell! Emotions will be all over the place reading this one. A must read!

I enjoyed this story overall. Kieran is Irish, as are his brothers, but this story is set in America. They've been in America for years at this point, so I'm not sure why their brogue is still so thick, and there doesn't seem to be any particular reason they're Irish, so their dialogue was almost distracting. I felt bad for Kieran... he was a broken down man at the beginning. I'm not sure what gave him the confidence to try being a Dom -- maybe it was his desire to please Shayne? And the fact that he took to it pretty easily was a good sign. I felt bad for Shayne as well. While I applaud her getting off the drugs, it seems she still uses sex the same way she would use drugs, so she still basically has a crutch. But things are different with Kieran, and it was sweet to watch them sort of grow together into their relationship (and yes, Shayne, it was a freaking relationship, lol). I will say that giving Shayne her fantasy seemed a little odd, considering how he'd found his wife at the beginning, but what do I know? Unfortunately, Kieran's soon-to-be-ex wife is the big c-word and screws it up for both of them. And Shayne tries to pick up her life and just move on at that point. But try as she might, nobody else is Kieran. It all comes to a head and she starts losing control again, and she gets herself in a really bad situation. Thankfully, Kieran and Liam are there to prevent what likely would have been what pushed her over the edge. And thankfully Kieran and Shayne works things out.

MARKS ON MY SKIN is the first book in the Love and Ink series. I believe they will each stand on their own with crossover characters, but you can never be sure after just one book.
I loved the character development in this story. Kieran especially grew… as in he finally grew some balls. The man went from begging a whoring wife to keep him to being a Dom for Shayne. Who would you respect more? I know who I choose.
Both Shayne and Kieran have trust and abandonment issues to work through and BDSM is the format that seems to work for them. Their chemistry means working through it together in ways that threatened to set my kindle on fire!
Besides hot sexy, there was a ton of funny that had me laughing so hard that my stomach felt like I had done extra sit-ups!
I enjoyed the story, but the heavy accents on the audiobook were distracting at times. Oh well, it just meant I had to back up and listen to some parts again to be sure I caught a few words.
I would love to listen to more of this series to find out who pairs up with Liam, Niall, and (especially) Darren.

Both Shayne and Kieran have trust and abandonment issues to work through and BDSM is the format that seems to work for them. Their chemistry means working through it together in ways that threatened to set my kindle on fire!
Besides hot sexy, there was a ton of funny that had me laughing so hard that my stomach felt like I had done extra sit-ups!
I enjoyed the story, but the heavy accents on the audiobook were distracting at times. Oh well, it just meant I had to back up and listen to some parts again to be sure I caught a few words.
I would love to listen to more of this series to find out who pairs up with Liam, Niall, and (especially) Darren.

This book was so much more than I expected. I was thrilled to read about Kieran and his experience with Shayne , the things he would learn the sex they would have. And though that did not disappoint there was actually a great story line involved dealing with Shayne's past and her future with Kieran.
We meet Kieran first when he walks in on his wife screwing 5 guys , nasty , disgusting and humiliating , I almost put the book down thinking oh man I cannot deal with this guy if he takes this chick back and touches her. But she takes off and he slips into depression soon to be rescued by his brother Niall which then leads to the reconciliation of Kieran and his other brother Liam and the meeting of Kieran and Shayne. Here is where the story builds. Why are Kieran and Liam estranged brothers ?? What is the relationship between Liam and Shayne ?? Who is Darren and what is Shayne into ?? Why is Shayne so closed off ?? Will Kieran and Shayne become more than friends ??
Thankfully we get answers to all of these questions and more !! The most heartbreaking is what we learn of Shayne's past. Shayne had a horrible childhood and her strung out mom never cared for her much at all. There are many things that happened which led Shayne to become the person she is now. She is a submissive , loves pain mixed with pleasure and uses it to help forget when things get rough. Not believing in love or relationships she gets by with meaningless sex and has a very strange friendship , dom/sub relationship with her savior Darren. Darren found her lost and broken years ago and he saved her and gave her a means to an end when she needed to feel a high. Shayne quickly becomes friends with Kieran and brings him into her world. Kieran is intrigued enough to want to know all about Shayne and what makes her happy. Their relationship quickly becomes more against the wishes of Liam ,we soon find out why Liam is so against this. With a few twists and turns revolving around Shayne's mother and Kieran's soon to be ex wife we get drama and heartache. Both Liam and Kieran come together to help Shayne when she needs them the most. Life may get in the way for a bit but once the dust settles the chance for happiness and new beginnings opens up and Shayne and Kieran may actually have their HEA !!

When I saw the first teaser for this book, I knew I had to read it. J.A. Howell gifted me a copy, and I was not disappointed. This book was phenomenal.
Kieran, and handsome Irishman, was happy with his wife. Well, that was until Kieran walked in on his wife having sex with not just one man, but FIVE other men. Kieran was stunned to learn that his wife no longer loved him, so he left to spend time with his brothers in Rhode Island.
Shayne works with Kieran’s brother Liam in their tattoo shop. When Kieran walked in one day, Shayne’s world turned upside down. She felt an irresistible pull towards him, but struggled with those feelings.
Kieran discovered that Shayne was into more than just plain old vanilla sex. She was into BDSM. Kieran also discovered that he loved being a Dominant, especially over Shayne.

The only thing I had a problem with, was the accent. I get it, their Irishmen. It was difficult for me at first, to get used to the dialect. I sometimes had to hold in my laughter, cause the voice in my head sounded really funny. But I soon got into it. It was apart of who Kieran and his brothers were.

The main female is Shayne. She is a tattoo artist with demons in her past. You can't help but to love her. She runs a tattoo shop with her business partner, Liam. Liam is a great guy and looks out for Shayne. Liam has two brothers...introductions...
Niall is hiliarious. I love him and cannot wait for his own book later in the series.
Kieran plays a big role in the book. He is a writer. The book starts out with hard times for Kieran. His marriage is on its deathbed and Niall comes to the rescue by bringing Kieran back home with him for some brother bonding time. You will absolutely HATE his wife. I was ready to punch her out most of the time!
Shayne and Kieran are drawn to one another. Their attraction is magnetic. Despite their initial attempts to stay away from one another, they kept getting sucked back in. They take you on an emotional roller coaster.
(Did I mention that the three brothers were sexy Irishmen??) There is some Irish dialect in the book but very easy to follow. It was rather entertaining for me with my inner dialogue.
So we have tattoos, dark past, rocky marriage, hot Irishmen, and intense sexual attraction....what am I missing? DARREN!
I love Darren! He's not an Irishmen but he is yummy. He runs a BDSM club and is a good friend to Shayne. He is funny with a hint of ego (ok maybe a little more than a hint) and mixed in with extreme loyalty for Shayne. He cares deeply about Shayne and knows all about her past. Something not everyone is privy to. Also Darren is her on again off again Dom. The scenes with Shayne and Darren are hoooot! And yes he gets his own book too after Liam. SQUEEE!!

This book is about a man named Kieran and his horrible wife then later the woman who frees him. Kieran finds out his wife has been stepping out on their wife. When he catches her, she simply tell him that it was working for her anymore. She doesn’t love him and he doesn’t satisfy her anymore. She leaves him. Months pass and his brother comes and tells him to come back and stay with him for awhile. He does. He reunites with his older brother. His older brother co-owns a tattoo shop with someone named Shanye. When Kieran meets Shanyne he is surprised. Mainly because she is a beautiful tattooed woman and not some tattooed guy. Things heat up quickly despite Kieran’s older brother Liam’s objections. Shayne is not your typical woman. She has had one hell of a past and doesn’t trust easily. For a reason she doesn’t understand she trusts Kieran. She tells him things she has only told one other person. She lets him in. But this thing they have is messy. Kieran is still married and Shayne doesn’t do relationships.

Marks on my Skin is an emotional rollercoaster of an erotic romance novel. It’s the third book I’ve read by J.A. Howell and the one I’ve enjoyed the most. It was at times dark and others were more humorous which gave it an edge and made it great entertainment to read.
The novel was high emotion right from the start after Kieran catches his wife in bed with five men. Awkward. From there, I struggled to connect with the story a little bit until about a quarter of the way in when we start to get to know him and Shayne a bit more.
I loved the development in Kieran and Shayne’s characters as their relationship progressed. I just loved Kieran’s character completely from his sweet and awkward tendencies to when he’s a whole lot more sexy and confident. Shayne is not the typical female character but I really felt for her story. She’s a pretty cool tattoo artist who struggles with her own issues including lack of trust. With Kieran she feels different and I enjoyed seeing how their characters changed.
The plot was fast-paced and the author packed in lots of well-written steamy scenes. I loved Kieran and Shayne’s characterisation and their connection and chemistry was captivating to read. I enjoyed that some of my favourite characters from Howell’s previous novels crossed over too. I thought Marks on my Skin was a really great opener to the Love & Ink series and I’m looking forward to reading more from the other characters.

When I say this was truly one of the best books in this genre I have read this year so far I do mean it. This is the first book in the series but the second book that I have read by this author and I have to say she is very talented. All throughout the book you know exactly what is going on, if there is a time lapse she actually lets you know so your not wondering how long the time has passed. The plot she has created is one that will keep you entertained and probably not want to put the book down until the very end (I stayed up until 3 am just to finish it because I didn’t want to put it down). Marks on my Skin is erotica but it has some humor in it that had me laughing out loud. These characters that are in the story are so full of life and you can feel their what they are feeling no matter which part of the books, I enjoyed that it was both from Kieran and Shayne point of view but it still worked perfectly. You were able to see how these two characters struggled because they didn’t want a relationship but of course things do change. Especially as Kieran takes a step into a new world of wonders that he has never touched before BDSM, that was definitely funny on some parts; however, you have to start somewhere. Kieran came home to a huge surprise involving his wife so he decided to take a get away vacation to his brothers. Shayne you find out that her life has definitely not been perfect growing up and it made my heart hurt for her just to know the things she went through. I highly recommend this story and look forward to hopefully see a story about his brothers.

Holy hotness! When offered a chance to read about a sexy Irish man and a tattooed badgirl, I was all over it and I am so glad I was. This story was HOT as HELL, but there was so much more to it as well.
Trust – probably the hardest thing in any relationship and once it’s broken, it’s very hard to get it back, even with another person. Kieran had his heart trampled by his wife. Needing a change of pace, he ends up in Rhode Island with his brothers Niall and Liam, one of whom he was estranged from. Enter Shayne, a tattoo artist and Liam’s best friend, with trust issues from her mother. The two enter into uncharted territory for both of them.“Shayne moaned, the sound a mix of pleasure and pain. Her arse, normally fair and pale, reddened under my touch. The sight of it made me drunk with the need for her.” Their journey together was one of exploration, love, and trust and it was amazing, not to mention sizzling to watch.
There is a touch of BDSM in this story, though it was light and personally I found it SCORCHING! “I left marks on your skin, you left marks on my heart.” It focused more of the trust needed in order to allow someone to dominate you. At times, I really wanted to punch someone, particularly Kier’s wife, Kendall, but this story showed how important timing really is. I loved every minute of this book and can’t wait to read the next one in the series. (4 stars)

The characters are so real that I felt like I could walk up to the nearest bar and they would be there. I love that her accents are used just in the ‘talking’ parts not the ‘thoughts’ parts.
At the beginning of the story we meet Kieran as he finds his wife in the bed with 5 different men all at the same time. It crushes him and he goes to his brothers. Once there he meets Shayne he is attracted to her, but is still hurting.
Shayne isn’t looking for a relationship, she is just about the sex, but she is submissive and she needs certain things. Darren has always provided the Domination that she needs but now she really likes Kieran and he isn’t a Dom. Or is he.

Kieran Donovan is a writer, but a pushover for Woman, For instance his wife cheats on him with 5 men! Yep, I would like to have seen that in action lol.
Kiernan visits his brothers and meets Shayne,a tattoo aritst who works with Keirnans brother Liam. Instant chemistry, leads Keirnan into some BDSM, shockingly he comes out of his shell and it works until the ex shows up.
Shayne has some issues and she struggles with making a connection with men. Bad choices leads them apart and Shayne spirals down.
I really enjoyed the many aspects of this story! It was an erotic, BDSM, angsty dark romance! I turned the page never quite knowing what was coming next. I am a new reader of J.A. Howell but not the last book for me. I hope to read more about Liam and the rest of the cast of misfits.
Kiernan visits his brothers and meets Shayne,a tattoo aritst who works with Keirnans brother Liam. Instant chemistry, leads Keirnan into some BDSM, shockingly he comes out of his shell and it works until the ex shows up.
Shayne has some issues and she struggles with making a connection with men. Bad choices leads them apart and Shayne spirals down.
I really enjoyed the many aspects of this story! It was an erotic, BDSM, angsty dark romance! I turned the page never quite knowing what was coming next. I am a new reader of J.A. Howell but not the last book for me. I hope to read more about Liam and the rest of the cast of misfits.

For me, the first third seemed slow and didn't know what to make of the characters. It seemed to take forever for the story to go anywhere. It took some getting used the way that Kieran and his brothers spoke, but eventually got there. To go from doormat to Dom so quickly was urm interesting. Shayne is an interesting character, confident in her sexuality and desires but a mess otherwise. Saying that, for me it really got going with the reappearance of Kieran's wife and from that point on it was an emotional journey for both Kieran and Shayne as they both find out who they really are. They have to deal with a lot of crap along the way and some of it is quite harrowing. It went from an average story to a gritty and emotional one very quickly. I am so glad I stuck with it.

I won this book in a St. Patrick's Day giveaway. It is definitely one of the best books I have ever read! The characters came alive and very vivid in my mind as I read. I could not stop reading it!
Kieran and Shayna went through so much in their lives, yet were able to overcome all sorts of situations. They saw things about each other that almost no one else could see. I would recommend this book to anyone! J.A. Howell did a fantastic job writing this book!

There is a lot to the characters in the story. I liked that I was able to connect to them, I heard their accents, and I felt their emotions. This story was seductive, as well as, being emotional and real. I think the author has created really great characters here, so much so, that you might meet them in your daily life.

Had the pleasure of getting an ARC of this book. It was great! I love how Kieran was being introduced into the BDSM world, and how Shayne's previous Dom helped him with the introduction. Steamy scenes and emotional moments kept the reader enticed. Will recommend to other readers.

This was an amazing read. I am so glad that a friend recommended J A Howells books to me. This one was so awesome, that I had to read it twice.

I LOVED this book ! The drama and twist & turns will have you up all night reading. The HOT....and I mean HOT sex was so good and steamy . But Howell just didn't stop there with only drama and sex... she added the funny and the LUBE scene ... I almost peed myself I laughed so hard.

I downloaded this when I found the Possess novels & didn't realise what it was about. I don't normally read trashy romance novels - but the spice in this was tempting. I laughed, I cryed & I most definitely blushed. Great read.
