A bit rushed

This was a very satisfying dish of revenge against bad people. There was a ton of going on, a lot of hidden plots and a lot of execution. This is the final volume as far as I can tell it would be strange for there to be anymore. So as a two volume series I feel somewhat satisfied. I do feel like the romance angle between the queen and her sweetheart feels a little bit off, maybe even forced. Maybe it's because he was a sleeping beauty for the most of the story? One other thing that kind of bothered me, was how incompetent the final bosses were. They were way too easy to entrap, it made me seriously wonder how they managed to be so successful at what they did.

I think the formula and structure of this story, part 1 and 2, is very akin to the count of Monte Cristo. The endings are different, although Hollywood has made the count of montecristo have a different ending... But if you're looking volume to volume comparison I think they have different conclusions for sure. But the similarities are hard to ignore.

Good book but the fighting and political stuff for boring plus wish she got with Alicia instead they had way more chemistry… 😭 maybe if the first book had them meet more? I would’ve liked her husband? But I just didn’t like him. Not horrible? But oh well another read for the year!

Again, I liked this duology, but it was nowhere near as good as the authors previous series 'Accomplishments of a Duke's Daughter'.
