“That was all before…” Jenna waves her hand in the air, but we both know what she means. Before I touched her in the most intimate places. Before I felt her shudder under my tongue. Before she tasted the salt on my skin. Before I promised a lot more than I could deliver.

Ty Branch has wanted one thing his entire life—to play professional baseball. When he gets a chance to move from San Francisco to play at Texas powerhouse Garvin State University, he's willing to do whatever it takes to make his dream come true, even if that means hiding his past. But when he meets dance major Jenna Taylor, the chemistry is so strong his single-minded quest begins to weaken. As he gets to know her quirky, small-town family, he falls more deeply
in love, but becomes even more sure he can never tell her the truth about his family.

When a surprise visitor blows his past wide-open, Ty is forced to come to terms with his secrets. But is the damage already done with Jolene or can he find a way to sacrifice everything he's worked for in order to win back the heart of a once-in-a-lifetime love.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS STORY!!!!!!

It was so touching and sweet and SMOKIN' HAWT!!! Turns out I forgot to mention that in my original review, but I'm stating it now; TY AND JENNA TOGETHER WERE COMBUSTIBLE!!!!! I loved everything about them and more often than not I'm not a big fan of both the H and h, but I gotta say I adored BOTH Ty AND Jenna!!!! My ONLY gripe is the ending felt like a HFN to me... does that mean we are gonna see more of Ty and Jenna AND Mitch and Nina AND Rowan and Stewart??!!! Not gonna complain though, Lynne Jaymes :D

This is the first book I have read by Lynne Jaymes and I was not disappointed. It was very original and really hit some issues that we should not have but sadly always will, I believe with some people anyway.

Tyler's dream has always been to become a baseball player in the Big Leagues. When he was recruited by Garvin State University he was hoping to be one step closer but Texas is much different then his hometown of San Francisco. He needed to act the part and just get through the next few years with a secret that he thought might take away from what he was trying to accomplish. It shouldn't be an issue but he knew he would open up more than he wanted to deal with. He didn't want to start a relationship with anyone since he knew it would start with a lie....

Jenna was a dance major and she was very passionate about it. She needed to focus on dance and she was closed off to having any kind of relationship. Her last one ended badly since it was full of lies a year ago and she was not ready to get back into one. But when she notices that she has a hot baseball player living a few doors down from her she fights it with all she has....

Ty and Jenna have been quietly checking each other out for months in the halls and when fate finally steps in and they actually sit and talk...sparks fly. They feel something immediately but Ty gets scared that his secret can be exposed but he knows deep down that he wants to tell her. Jenna is very confused and does not know what made him just disappear but has a feeling it's not over...They have to first get over the secret that Ty is holding on to and hope that Jenna can forgive him.

This is a hard review since there was so much going on and I don't do spoilers, I try not to anyway. I loved how it was not just about this couple but their friends as well. This was also my first book with a baseball player and yum!

Quotes:

Jenna Taylor is just one more thing I shouldn't be messing with this year.

Ty runs a hand up the length of my spine, his fingers tracing each bump. "No. You're absolutely perfect the way you are." The funny thing is, in his hands, I almost feel perfect.

I walk to my bike an am turning the key when she smiles and shouts, "Seriously Ty, the truth will set you free."

* 4 Star Review *

This is the first book I have read by author Lynne Jaymes. I was pleasantly surprised. One True Thing has a very fresh plot and outtake on a very real social problem. Sadly this very real problem will go on through the end of time in some way or another.

This is going to be a hard review to write without giving away spoilers.

Tyler Branch has always dreamed of being a professional baseball player. He has diligently worked hard for his accomplishments on and off the field. He is recruited by Garvin State University to play for their baseball team. It is the opportunity he has been hoping for. He will get more recognition and exposure to scouts for the major leagues. Garvin State is in the heart of Texas in a very small town. The people there are stuck in their ways, clinging to the past, and very judgmental. Being from a San Francisco, a very progressive city, it is hard for Ty to grasp their views on life. He doesn’t want to rock the boat in any way that will ruin his chance at the Major Leagues. He vows to focus on school and baseball for the next two years. He will keep his views to himself, stay out of relationships, and keep his secrets buried deep. After all he needs to keep his eye on the ball. What he didn’t count on was Jenna Taylor, the beautiful dancer, who lives a few doors down from him. He didn’t count on an attraction and chemistry that would change the way he looked at life and love.

Jenna Taylor has always wanted to dance. She chose Garvin State over New York because of their outstanding dance department. She is from a very small town in Texas, where everyone knows your business as well as their own. She loves her roots as much as she loves the city. She wants to focus on her dreams without the hassles of being in a relationship that will go nowhere after college. She has been burned before and has no desire to put herself in that position again. That is until she meets Ty Branch.

Jenna and Ty’s attraction builds into a beautiful relationship. There is only one problem with the relationship, Ty’s secrets. As the two become more deeply involved his secrets become lies, the lies get out of hand. When a surprise visit blows the secret out of the water, not only will it ruin Ty’s relationship with Jenna, it may also ruin his chance at the Major Leagues.

Their story may shock some readers. Their story is very real and heartbreaking. It was very enlightening about how the world can be in some places. It is a story that was well written and had the reader sympathizing with Jenna and Ty’s plight.

I think Lynne Jaymes did a wonderful job with One True Thing. The only thing that would of made this story better is if the reader could of experienced more of the characters individual personalities to go along with the focus on their dilemma.

I would highly recommend this book.

Dear Ty,
I have never met anyone quite like you. I searched Google to see if you actually exist and only turned up one person, minus the blonde hair. I'm intrigued.
Shall I tell you all of the ways in which I am in fictional love with you? You sir, are unlike most college athletes I've read about it books. You may have your secrets but I admire your focus on your future and your ability to dismiss the disapproval from your friends regarding girls. You're sweet and caring, you're hard-working and athletic, your'e smart and you're gorgeous. You my friend are the whole package.
I love that you recognized your strong attraction to Jenna and despite your multiple efforts to stay away, that you realized that sometimes staying away just isn't possible. I was impressed when you held back from taking things too far when you were unsure of the direction the relationship would take.
I smiled when you found yourself already falling and unable to slow things down anymore. I was disappointed that you couldn't reveal your secret to Jenna and that it ended up blowing up in your face. I wanted to punch a majority of the student body of Garvin State, hell, the majority of the population of Texas for their small-minded, stereotypical ignorance.
Through it all, I stayed in fictional love with you, more often than not I was definitely in fictional lust with you.
I hope that I get to see more of you and Jenna since your story is part of a series. I look forward to getting to know your friends, Mitch & Nina and Rowan & Stewart more as well.
Show those scouts what you're all about and tell Jenna I said, "Howdy!"

Yours, hypothetically,
Jaime

“Don’t ask; don’t tell.” This phrase has a deep meaning to Garvin State baseball standout Tyler Branch,

who dreams of making it to the MLB. College is a stepping stone for him, providing him candid exposure

to fulfill his goal. A move from liberal San Francisco to conservative Garvin, Texas, in order to play

baseball, keeps Tyler’s lips completely sealed regarding a secret he’s been harboring regarding his

ethnicity.

Sophomore dance star Jenna Taylor lives in the same apartment building as Tyler, and they see each

other in passing from time to time, neither one realizing that the other is secretly crushing. When

they end up at the same bar due to a night out with mutual friends, they strike up a conversation and

immediately hit it off. Their mutual friends are an interracial couple, which sets the beginning tone of

the novel.

Jenna’s grandfather is very devout in his beliefs and causes turmoil in an already shaky relationship due

to Tyler’s fears of Jenna discovering his secret. When he overhears Jenna’s grandfather’s negativity, he

vows to hold in the secret a little longer, but when an unexpected visitor shows up at his apartment, he

cannot deny the obvious. Jenna leaves him for lying to her, and both suffer the consequences.

Ms. James jam-packs this novel with heavy themes that are written in a professional way. She doesn’t

sugar coat anything, and that’s one of the main reasons why I enjoyed it so much. Several times I had

to stop and think as I was reading, telling myself that these stereotypes still exist today and making One

True Thing that more believable.

Thank you, Ms. James, for creating an original storyline that makes me hunger for more. Tyler and

Jenna’s story is one that can be used to teach all aspects of a relationship—courage, tolerance, love,

compassion, but above all, truth.

This was such a great book!! Once I picked it up, I devoured it till the end.

All Ty wants to do is play professional baseball. He doesn't have time for love or any other distractions.....that is until he meets Jenna. The more time they spend together, the deeper they fall for each other but Ty is holding something back from Jenna about his past. It's more of a don't ask, don't tell kind of deal but Jenna has been burned in the past before. Will Ty be able to tell Jenna his secret before a visitor comes knocking on his door?

I really loved Ty and Jenna together. These two were HOTTT!! All I could do was laugh my butt off during the scorching scene at the dance studio bc I just had a feeling they wouldn't be alone. I knew once Jenna learned the truth things would get rocky between the two of them bc of the lies Ty had told her. I just wanted to yell at him to tell her the truth but I understand why he done it. I don't think it would have mattered to Jenna either way. It's just sad that life has to be so black and white sometimes.

I just kept trying to turn the pages at the end because I wanted more on Ty and Jenna!! Maybe we will luck out and Ms. Jaymes will write on another character and mention them and how they are doing (hint hint, lol) I highly recommend this awesome book to all my book lovers!!

What a great story of baseball and love! Two of my favorite things. I am really pulling for a book 2 for Ty and Jenna. Ty is a center fielder while Jenna is a dancer. Ty's heritage changes Jenna's life with her racist grandpa. I want to see what a blonde green eyed African American looks like!

What a refreshing read! This book is not like anything I have read before, with conflicts that are completely different than what readers usually expect. It is well written, and tells the story of Jenna and Ty. Jenna is a dancer from a small Texas town, determined not to let anything get in the way of her goals.

Ty is a California transport, spending time in Texas trying to perfect his baseball skills in hopes of making it to the MLB. The last thing he needs is a distraction, or for someone to find out the secrets he is hiding.

Ty and Jenna are drawn to each other even though both of them know they are asking for nothing but trouble. Living in the same apartment building, they dance around each other for weeks before finally getting on the same page. But of course, they can't just ride off in to the sunset. The secret Ty has been hiding is blown wide open, and threatens to drive a wedge between these two lovebirds.

One True Thing deals with some definite "hot button" issues, and makes readers take a look at some of their own thoughts and beliefs. It is thought provoking, and made me question how I look at things in the world, and what I would do if I found out things were not as they seemed.

I loved Jenna and Ty. Both of them were genuine and sweet, but struggling with finding the right path in their lives. Jenna and Ty both care deeply for their families, and must find a way to balance their own wants and needs with the expectations set by their families.

Without a doubt I would read other books from Lynne Jaymes. This book was well developed, had characters that were easy to connect with, and had a unique storyline. I look forward to seeing what else she has in store for us!

Ty Branch is hiding some things from his past from everyone at his new school, Garvin State. He has worked really hard to get where he is, but he is now in a small town in a state that seems to still not be very progressive - Texas. He is trying to stay focused on only one thing - baseball - until Jenna makes her way into his life. They have lived in the same apartment complex for several months, but have managed to not make much contact. That all changes, however, when one of his teammates and friends invites him out with him, his girlfriend, and one of her friends from dance class - Jenna.

Ty is unable to keep ignoring Jenna, and the two of them have a connection. Before things can move forward too much, however, he backs off, which puts Jenna off, as she has been burned pretty badly, herself, in her dating past. Jenna has a difficult time trusting guys, in general, and she really struggles with trusting Ty again after he left her without any kind of word. The two of them have this pull, however, that prevents them from ignoring one another for too long.

Ty's past impacts both of their lives, however, as what he is hiding from Jenna is something that her family members still struggle with in many ways. I don't want to give too much away, but this book deals with racism, small town minds, lying, cheating pasts, and the undeniable pull that two people can feel towards one another - no matter the odds. There were a few grammatical errors, and this book definitely ends with some things still up in the air. It does not necessarily have the feel of a cliffhanger, but it does feel like things end really suddenly, and you are almost left with the feeling of holding your breath.

I thought this book was very well written with very in depth characters: you have the main couple Jenna and Ty, Mitch and Nina (an interracial couple) and Rowan and Stewart (gay couple) as their friends. Jenna is dance major at a small Texas college. Ty is new at Garvin College having just moved there from San Francisco for his baseball career. If he plays good here he might make it to the majors by next year. He and Jenna meet through friends and start dating. By Ty is hiding a very BIG secret from Jenna. When Jenna learns of his lie she doesn't think she can trust him anymore. What is Ty's secret and will they get back together? While I didn't agree with Ty's secret I did understand his reasoning. His motto: If they don't ask, don't tell. Don't want to give out to many spoilers but this was a great read. http://harpsromancebookreview.com

Loved this story! You can't help but love both Ty and Jenna. Both have dreams and heartbreak in their past. Ty has a dream of playing in the majors for baseball and needs to keep his head in the game and Jenna hopes to be a professional dancer. They both try to ignore the draw that both of them feel to one another but eventually they are thrown together enough and it sticks. It sticks until Jenna finds out a secret about Ty that she thinks makes their relationship a lie. Is love enough? When is an omission of facts a lie? Is it wrong to not correct people's assumptions? That is what Ty and Jenna have to figure out.

This was very well-written and I look forward to reading more by this author.

MY RATING~ 5/5

I chose to read this book because I was provided with an ARC for review.
I totally enjoyed this book! It kept me glued to it from front to back! I really loved the surprising twists in this story. I had no idea what the big climax/"secret" was going to be for quite a while and when it was revealed, I was like "whoa...what??". Good stuff!
Author Lynne James is new to me and she definitely left a lasting impression. Her writing was great, her characters are loveable, and overall, I'm for sure a new fan!
I can't wait to read the rest of this series!

What a brilliant love story.
Lynne James hit some issues that we should not have but sadly always will.

Tyler branch (TY) is 21 years old, He plays baseball in college but might make it pro.
Jenna Taylor is a dance major. She doesn't trust athletes after a bad break up with her EX boyfriend, who she caught cheating on her.
Ty and Jenna really like each other but Ty's been keeping some major secrets. The longer he leaves it the worse it's gets, Does Jenna find out?

There's alot going on in this story but it's easy to follow and really enjoyable. Ty and Jenna relationship is good to watch unfold, they both deserve a happily ever after.

Would love to have a story on Mitch and Nina!!

Ty loved baseball and wants to be the best. He's focused. Then in walks Jenna.

Not all is straight forwards, whenever is it in relationships! So there is plenty to keep your attention, with the hot sparks firing up between them, sex on tap, and Ty finding it harder to be in love than to play baseball! throw is a secret and you have the basis of a nice read.

Its well written, easy to follow, simple and you can relax with this one.

This is a great read they I read in one sitting.

Ty plays professional baseball. Jenna dances. They both live in the same building and have been secretly crushing on one another for a while. When they act on these crushes will secrets destroy them?

This is a great storyline with lots going on. These two characters are hot together the story was put together well. Nice refreshing read that I enjoyed. Hope there is more of these characters in the next book.

Good. Though I was a little disappointed with how it perceived the race and gay issues. I being a straight white female even realize that life isn't easy and it's not so easy to just say to hell with all the haters out there and be with whomever you want to be with. I am married now but as I was growing up in a small WV town could feel the deep tug to just fit in. Being a minority has to be hard and I just feel that the author made it seem easier then it really is to be accepted.
