Britta Teckentrup was born in Germany and moved to England in 1988. She is the author and illustrator of many books for children. She now lives in Berlin with her husband and young son.
This story warmed me on a chilly night. The illustrations are so textured, lovely, and full of joy! I'm fairly sure anyone who's ever known a child or worked with children has seen them delighted with something only to call, "again! again!" Most of us have been that child at one point, too. This story has a Little Hedgehog and a Big Hedgehog. The little one is often asking for "again! again!" and in this story, they have all the time to do all the things again and again and again until they find the next delightful thing or animal. It looks like the best day, and the writing is charming. There wasn't a robust story or arc or anything complicated going on, but that's part of the charm. It's a book dedicated to simple delights, indulged to the fullest.
Britta Teckentrup’s art always is pleasing to me and these springtime illustrations are lovely as one is looking at the springtime animals from eye level in the grass watching them welcome the two hedgehogs back after their hibernation. And from the grass level Teckentrup has included all the very small blooming plants that we humans are always looking down on. What appears as a wordy story actually reads very well. First published In Germany in 2024, translated and published in the USA in 2025. Now on to find the other titles in the Hedgehog series.
