Rate this book
Volume forty-two in the saga of Dray Prescot of Earth and of Kregen, and the fifth book of the Lohvian Cycle. Dray Prescot has recently given up the job of being Emperor of Vallia, only to be pitchforked into the task of uniting all the varied continents and islands of Paz to resist the reiving onslaughts of the Shanks. People are beginning to call him the Emperor of Emperors, the Emperor of Paz. During the battle, to his horror, he sees Delia being carried off by a group of the whiptailed Kataki slavers, galloping off astride zorcas. Frenziedly he charges after them... Although previously published in a German translation, Scorpio Drums has never before been published in English.

Enjoyable, of course. Dray and Delia and the gang are lost in some ensorcelled catacombs where they mix with groups that have entered from ages in the past all the way to the modern day. Many of these have been held in a kind of stasis but awaken when Dray approaches them because of a sorcerous spell cast by his wizard allies. There's a lot of action and a great ending. There's not a lot of focus to the plot. As usual, Dray gets thrown into one battle after another. A lot of fun for those who have followed Dray's adventures up to now. Not a good place to start the series if you were going to come new to it.
